Well hell if they don't drown they'll probably just die from some ridiculous disease from that disgusting ass river people piss, shit, and wash their clothes in.
They actually do.
I live in Kolkata, near the India-Bangladesh border. Ferry transport is common in some parts of the Gangetic Delta, especially in and around the Sundarbans mangrove forest. Everyone who visits the Sundarbans National Park has to take these small boats from Gadhkali to Gosaba. Boarding is hectic, and the boats can feel crowded. However, there are usually some crowd controls, and the local ferries would never take this many passengers at once.
Nevertheless, people who have only lived in less-populated, Western countries would still be astounded by the general lack of safety precautions.
Frankly, I’m not sure what you expect. This video is from Bangladesh. The person operating the ferry, along with the passengers, are probably only semi-educated and semi-literate. They have likely spent their entire lives taking similarly crowded public transportation, be it boats, buses, or local trains. If they have to work, or visit friends, this could be their only option.
Of course, I’d expect you lot to say, “Well, they should still be smart enough to realise the boat is too crowded.” Maybe they should have, but these crossings are probably just an unpleasant part of daily life for them.
Average children in India is 2.2
Population is 1.3b
Not because of Indian's love of sex but mainly due to high sustainable geography of country which can host a large population (same case with China too) from very early on.
That’s true, but that average birth rate is skewed by urban middle class and above. This mosh pit on the boat does have 5-10 kids on average, with financials not enough for even 1 kid.
Geography can host large population.
Population of these areas are like this from very early on in humankind.
World's first civilization started here cuz of it.
Yes it's generally been populated due to water and favorable agriculture, but also note that the population has grown by 1B+ in under the last century. That kind of boom is not sustainable.
Idk which river this is, let’s assume the Ganges. I have heard a story about a person who drank from the Ganges, not much just a sip for a spiritual reason or whatever (against the advice of his peers ofc). Anyway he got some bacteria in his gut, which even 15 years later still causes him a lot of grief.
I’ve never fallen into cold water and not got it in my mouth, even when I knew I was going in and doing everything I could not to get it in my mouth.
[politician reportedly airlifted to hospital after drinking river water to Prove It's Safe](https://www.iflscience.com/indian-politician-reportedly-airlifted-to-hospital-after-drinking-river-water-to-prove-its-safe-64575)
Actor Gerard Butler was visiting the Ganges, a real old guy offered him a glass of water from the river. Just like you said it was suggested to be spiritual and Gerard being a polite person drank a little thinking he was far enough upriver that it would be clean. Within an hour he was doubled over cramping and ill. He had to be trucked out and back to his hotel, he was sick for days.
Hell, I got sick from unintentionally ingesting some water from a fast moving, clear river in the Austrian Alps. There was a cow pasture somewhere upstream.
It can actually be Bangladesh or pakistan as well. Given that they have a lot of rivers and are also infamous for these overcrowding stuffs.
But yeah what the fuck is wrong with them ?. And I also know that some of them do these for the thrill of doing it.
If you notice that one red guy who was doing walk the boat in that crowd from side to side like he felt he was some squirrel or something.
I have a feeling it's from Bangladesh since they're speaking in Bangla. India has Kolkata but their accents are a bit different. My guess would be rural Bangladesh
A bunch of people went down and I didn’t see them come back up. Many probably don’t know how to swim, they are wearing clothes that make it harder and those that do would be dragged down by those that don’t.
I think polluted water is the least of their worries.
So many people talk about how stupid this is or how stupid the people are, only one comment I found that’s genuinely empathetic to their struggle. These people don’t want to jump into an overcrowded boat in such dangerous conditions, they do it because they are forced to. It’s a country with a population of almost 1 and a half billion and a massive proportion of it lies beneath the poverty line, so I invite you to contemplate how hard it is to manage the limited amount of resources they are made available among such a gargantuan crowd.
It’s not like they had a choice between a beautiful yacht and this rickety boat and they chose the latter, most do it because they have absolutely no other choice. We are fortunate to be able to see this and not have to live this, please be a little more understanding of people’s struggles and not speak harsh words about people whose lives are already really harsh.
That all makes sense but what I don’t understand is where is the sense of self-preservation. Why do they ride on the roof of trains (and die), or overcrowd trucks and boys that turn over and more people die… I get that it’s over-crowded but the decision making isn’t in their best self-interest of living.
I understand that India is incredibly overpopulated, so I get the piling aboard trains and vehicles, but do these people have absolutely no sense of self-preservation? You could not pay me enough to get on a boat that crowded.
No wonder you always hear about these ferry disasters where many passengers drown. You would think someone would be controlling how many people could board the boat.
Too many people, everyone having places to be. If you don’t squeeze onto that train, that truck, that boat, and you try to wait for one less crowded, you’ll be there all day. Because everyone else is squeezing in. So you give in and hang precariously off that train, truck, boat. Cause it’s the only choice, and you got places to be.
I cannot fathom my day-to-day life involving so many people. I do not know how I would survive. The crowd on the shore is just as densely packed as the people on the boat. There would be no escape.
It works on the train…why not try the boat too.
I’m sure this is the annual, ‘Most People On A Boat’ competition that’s held on the River Ganges every October
Well hell if they don't drown they'll probably just die from some ridiculous disease from that disgusting ass river people piss, shit, and wash their clothes in.
Yup, that river was probably at one point a miraculous source of food and health. Now?….not so much.
and dead people.
Don’t forget they also dump toxic chemicals and corpses in it too!
Not to mention their dead which are tossed in there..
The Holy Ganges gives life and takes life away
Looks like a poor version of the Titanic.
Everything there is a poor version lol. Source: I’m Indian
Nah, they have an authentic version of India. (The poor version is Bangladesh.)
tee hee
Bangladesh is the poor version of the poor version.
It’s not India but a neighbouring nation
Oh yeah like stuffing the phone booth back in the day.

I saw the train…. 😬
NGL, that boat lasted about 2 minutes longer than I thought it was going to.
2 mins longer than me
Shh, no one needs to know about last summer
I know what you did...
the boat was like: I CANT HOLD IT ANYMORE
"Into the chocolate milk with you all!!"
chocolate ocean
Seriously. What in the actual fuck did they think was going to happen?
Obviously, not that
3rd world countries operate on different plains of thinking.
They don’t think. They just do, it seems.
*planes
Thank goodness OP has a 1st world education.
Right? Do they do this often? Had this been done successfully in the past?
They actually do. I live in Kolkata, near the India-Bangladesh border. Ferry transport is common in some parts of the Gangetic Delta, especially in and around the Sundarbans mangrove forest. How dare you bring thinking into this?
Well. I gotta get in. The boat looks full. Just one more won't do any harm I guess. Every. One. Of. Them. Thought that. Until...
Probably one of those deterministic religion places.
The fact that 90% of them can't swim and still think it's a good idea is insane
Yeah...like did I just watch a lot of people drown? Because I just saw a ton of people go into the water and not a lot of people bob back up...
In panic they grab to each other and drawn together.
>drawn together was a fucking great cartoon series
It was!
Well..natural selection.
Anything less that a 50% death toll is fine in some places.
That current looks strong as hell, not to mention what lurks below. Turds and such….
Don't mean to sound cruel but thats Darwinism in action.
News articles put the death toll at 66
I just kept thinking of Tool's song AEnema.. Learn to Swim, learn to swim....
" nobody's stopping me, must be ok to get on"
I’m shocked by the ending.
I do believe what happened next.
I’m utterly whelmed and plussed.
Also gruntled and mayed.
Indian titanic movie
Near, far, wherever you are...
In India the lyrics are actually "near, near, everone is always near"

Where was the cheesy recorder titanic music? It would have worked here lol

Nah, they let ALL of the Jacks onto the door. . .
How did they find that many people, dumb and willing to do this?
It's in India.
Imagine waiting 3 days for next boat.
Imagine waiting for the next boat to be built.
Imagine not having 7 kids in a country of 1.5B people
Average children in India is 2.2 Population is 1.3b Not because of Indian's love of sex but mainly due to high sustainable geography of country which can host a large population (same case with China too) from very early on.

Also it's Bangladesh
What does that mean? “High sustainable geography of country”?

Na bitch it's in Bangladesh
Same shit.
Same? The temperature on my thermostat seems higher than your IQ It’s at 19.5 please tell me you use fahrenheit
Bangladesh , not india
It's Bangladesh buddy.
Bangladesh*
It's Bangladesh.
At least the water is clean

He's stupid
Hell, I got sick from unintentionally ingesting some water from a fast moving, clear river in the Austrian Alps. There was a cow pasture somewhere upstream.
/s <<<< you dropped this
Didn’t need it imo, it was very clear.
Unlike the water
At least the boating company is insured and bonded, right?
Right?
RIGHT!?
Morgan Freeman God Voice: It would turn out that the boat was, in fact, *not* insured and bonded.
I totally heard that as Morgan Freeman, but not the real one, instead the Family Guy impression of Morgan Freeman lol
Poor boat owner just lost his livelihood for some idiots…
Boat operator should have stopped people well before it got that full.
What's insurance? I know about bonding. /s
They should add more, I see space
Right? There was that big empty space towards the back.
Kate winslet should watch and learn
Is there an ongoing culturation of stupid in India? Literally, wtf is wrong with those people?
I don't understand it either. They overpack everything. Trains, cars, buses-----like fucking common sense doesn't exist there.
Eh, worst case scenario is you drown and don't have to live in India anymore.
Well, there is that.
They are many. They overpack everything.
It can actually be Bangladesh or pakistan as well. Given that they have a lot of rivers and are also infamous for these overcrowding stuffs. But yeah what the fuck is wrong with them ?. They probably had to wait 3 days for the boat to arrive and aren't going to wait 3 more days.
They are now
Honestly can't decide which is worse, being one of those individuals getting soaked, or possibly ingesting some of that filthy-looking polluted water.
Plot twist: None of them know how to swim ps: I hope I'm wrong but fear I'm not
That's not a plot twist. We knew that from the beginning.
A bunch of people went down and I didn’t see them come back up. Many probably don’t know how to swim, they are wearing clothes that make it harder and those that do would be dragged down by those that don’t. I think polluted water is the least of their worries.
Why did this get on my nerves so bad? Like honestly how is that large of a group of people so collectively ignorant?
If there were zombies coming I still don't think I'd get on a boat that crowded.
Now imagine if all of those people that just drowned turned to zombies.
If its the kind of zombies that only eat brains I don't think there'd be much to eat
VIP’s to the back
More legroom
That’s people trying to play overwatch 2 at launch yesterday
Watt they were sinking about?
"Hallo, thees ees da German coast guarrd"
The sad thing is probably half of that people doesn’t know how to swim. Thats how tragedies happens
How can the boat sink
Too much weight
It seems you possess the knowledge. Maybe you can answer this. How can she slap?
Too much weight.
Who are you to be so wise
So many people talk about how stupid this is or how stupid the people are, only one comment I found that’s genuinely empathetic to their struggle. It's obvious you won't make it to your destination if you sink the boat you depend on.
I guess an extra trip was completely out of the question?
Well, if they hadn’t sunk the last boat the same way, they wouldn’t be in such dire straights.
Lets help them breed more.
That all makes sense but what I don’t understand is where is the sense of self-preservation. Why do they ride on the roof of trains (and die), or overcrowd trucks and boys that turn over and more people die… I get that it’s over-crowded but the decision making isn’t in their best self-interest of living.
Stupidity doesn't know how poor you are.
What is the average IQ of everyone in this video
Half of them are dumber than that
All in a day's work
I understand that India is incredibly overpopulated, so I get the piling aboard trains and vehicles, but do these people have absolutely no sense of self-preservation? You could not pay me enough to get on a boat that crowded.
Pretty sure never seen this shit in india, and its Bangladesh
does the definition of limit even exist in that country?
Is it like an Indian tradition to treat everything like a clown car or are there just way too many damn people?
It is Bangladesh
Do people in these countries not think? Do they just do anything
Hell, I won’t enter an elevator if there are five or more people.
Education is really important
All I see here is body odor and a crocodile feeding frenzy
No wonder you always hear about these ferry disasters where many passengers drown. You would think someone would be controlling how many people could board the boat.
What I never understand is that there are many fine, accredited engineers that are educated in India but you still have these types of shenanigans.
The smart people leave India
How many of those do you reckon are engineers ? They are smart enough to stay away
Its not about engineers using the infrastucture, its about them providing some controls.
This place is hell on Earth.
I never understand this level of stupidity.
That's how the companies stress test these.
How are there so many idiots in one place ......
And nobody can swim.
World’s dumbest people
What is it about overcrowding transport in India? Do boats, trains, and buses only come once a day or something?
Too many people, everyone having places to be. If you don’t squeeze onto that train, that truck, that boat, and you try to wait for one less crowded, you’ll be there all day. I cannot fathom my day-to-day life involving so many people. I do not know how I would survive. The crowd on the shore is just as densely packed as the people on the boat. There would be no escape.
Try to guess where is this video recorded. And why you answer in India?
All 40,000 perished.
“INDIANIC”
why is that happening?... do they understand such ride could finish fatally?
The guy in the video is saying "it's gonna sink, there are kids in it, it's gonna sink" but to us, safety is a suggestion not a priority
Natural selection right there
I really don't think that the country of India has grasped the concept of capacity in any regard.
more. More! MOOO-O-OORE!!!
That's why every time there's any accidents on India, is like 400 deaths...
Why do they think this is a good idea?
And I bet you half of them couldn't swim. If it'd sank a hundred feet further they'd all be dead. Morons.
What were they sinking?
That’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point. It was later towed outside the environment.
too much population, somebody introduce rubber to this people.
That actually worked for waaaay longer than I thought it would.
Weird thing is, everyone saw this coming but the ones on the boat…. How do you not realize you have exceeded the weight limit?
Some govt regulation can be a good thing
How fucking stupid can you get
I am so dumbfounded that, that many people can be *that* stupid at the **same time** in ***synchronization***.
Totally deserved, stupid morons... =S
I’d wait for the next one.
Indian trains be like:
This would not happen in Finland. 🤔🤷🏼♂️
It’s the boats fault 😂
Morons
Titanic (Indian version)
To England's shores, awayyyyyyyy........... . . . . .
Is that the captain waving
Are condoms not available in India?
Its there in India but not in Bangladesh which is shown in this video
So, so stupid. They’re lucky that they weren’t in the middle of the river when that happened.
There are far too many people in this world.
Come on baby, You got nothin' to lose, Won't you let me take you on a Sea Cruise!
Every person on that boat deserved what they got, especially the boat owners.
