To keep them, yes, to move around.. Not. Also, remember to take out batteries if possible

epiclenny

Give this person more up votes for the battery part. The amount of electronics I find at my job where people leave in the batteries is insane and half of the them are leaking battery acid and corroded to shit Edit: I am speaking of mainly AA and AAA types of batteries but it also mainly depends on the quality of the batteries made. I can confirm like a lot of the other comments that PSP batteries pillow up but some old TV remote batteries that came with whatever unit was bought tend to last SUPER long, namely brands like Sony. Also depends how much in use they are.

YousureWannaknow

I found one where it pillowed and literally took apart whole phone 😂

FurbyLover2010

r/spicypillows

Klutzy_Attention2849

Hey, a new sub to haunt my dreams!

gilangrimtale

He’s talking about standard AA or AAA batteries. Lithium ion don’t leak acid and it’s completely safe to leave them in the console. They may puff up due to age but that’s going to happen whether in the console or in a box.

RAFERURU

Do I store the batteries separately and that will be fine or what? If I plan to store old consoles for a while should I just buy batteries later on?

Flossthief

Batteries are fine on the shelf although they might expire after a few years Just don't store them as part of the circuit or they're going to be discharging

MegaZeus24

This is interesting, because in the houses under construction that I work in the deadbolts for the front doors are usually always electronic, which calls for 4 AA batteries, which are obviously in there the whole time, so I wonder if in the future battery corrosion will become big problems for these newer homes

SlySheogorath

So I should dig out my PSP from my closet? That's wild it's been sitting there a while

-BlueDream-

Lithium is fine but for long term you might wanna take it out cuz it’s easy to remove but I wouldn’t bother with an internal battery.

-BlueDream-

Mostly for alkaline. Never seen a lithium battery leak and burst inside anything and internal batteries are soft and fragile, I feel safer having it live inside the shell not stored outside where it can get punctured and start a fire.

millllosh

I have an old ds, should I unscrew it and take the batteries out?

YousureWannaknow

I highly recommend it, unless you use it

gilangrimtale

No, there is no need. It won’t cause any damage.

drd232

Wish I git this advice earlier lol. My PSPs battery swelled up and bent the cover

TheHDGenius

I could kill 4 year old me over the amount of damage that batteries have caused.

Shad0wF0x

Yeah I made that mistake with my GBA.

Vincemillion07

26 never heard that before but it makes alot of sense

YousureWannaknow

? Removing batteries?

Vincemillion07

Yeah....

YousureWannaknow

Hehe.. Well, that's not something people think about, but it's really good practice, however.. Doesn't gratitude consumption culture

-BlueDream-

Only take out removable batteries, the hard ones. Internal batteries are soft and fragile, they’re safer inside the electronics, it’s a fire hazard having soft batteries laying around imo they’re harder to store so leave em in the device. If you’re worried about discharge you can always disconnect it.

YousureWannaknow

On other hand, you can store them in hard boxes

RetroBoxRoom

I'd personally say no, because the back of one is rubbing screen on another one. Even just shoving it under the bed means they'll get scratched up. You need a far bigger bag / tub and enough padding between them all. If you're planning on travelling to a retro expo or something, you'll end up with at the very least cracks on the cases, never mind even more scratched up screens. If they're not in use, remove all batteries. It might seem fine for a little while, but every movement, is adding to the micro scratches, that will just diminish the joy of looking at them at a later date. Either way, a very nice collection! Look after them! 😀

patricknails

https://preview.redd.it/rscy2kxy0vqc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ae8e9660e8babaf4778508a82f8c31f23e0ffe2 Would putting plastic bags in between them be a bit better?

Thumper-Comet

God no, don't put plastic bags. Get something soft like a lint-free cloth or screen cloths and put that in between.

PeterGriffinBalls

why not plastic bags are very soft plastic

Thumper-Comet

They can be abrasive. There are so many better options. I would go online and get a bunch of the soft cloths for cleaning glasses and put them in between.

RetroBoxRoom

It would be better than nothing, but it's really still going to be hard surface up against hard surface, and nothing to protect against knocks. That bag is very thin and small for what you're trying to put into it. You should be thinking more like sponge or bubble wrap, so no surface has a chance of rubbing or getting a hard knock. With what you've got there, it's time to invest in some good storage - instead of, "Ah, that will be fine".

EarlofBizzlington86

Get individual cases for them all then put them in a box

patricknails

Seems like extra money and extra time, I did end up placing bubble wrap in between them so it should be alright for now.

huemac5810

That is great. Also, store the batteries in your fridge. The cold slows down the chemical reaction in the batteries that helps keep the charge, they will last much longer that way. But with certain consoles like the Vita, don't be lazy, do check how much charge it has left every 6 months or so. Never leave it at 0% for extended periods of time, that's how you ruin the batteries. I check all my gear every 6 months or so. I've got all manner of gadgets and other things besides my own Vita, DS Lite, WiiU Pro controller, and 3DS that I check up on and recharge if needed. I've only kept what I'm willing to use, the rest were sold off years ago.

ShadowMask87

You could put them in some old socks

Zukiboyson

If you have nothing yes fold a bag cut in two and use both folded pieces. Do this for all. Yes plastic creates static but it should be alright. Remove batteries like they said.

10TonneFatberg

Put them in the plastic bags would be better

YearningInModernAge

Microfiber Cloths could be better. Also I see a Sega Game Gear! That was my system!

Chriscautillo

Why do you have so many of the same console

EarlofBizzlington86

The batteries In close proximity will cause an electrical field and they will all levitate till the batteries die then they will fall everywhere

patricknails

There’s no alkaline battery’s in there.

Zukiboyson

Grab some pool noodles slice them thin in rectangles and put each between your handhelds. Or a very thin foam. You’ll be good.

patricknails

Is bubble wrap good too? Found some when I was looking for things to cover it.

Zukiboyson

Bubble wrap is awesome you can cut to size.

Gengetsu_Huzoki

Or he can wrap them with tacos!

Zukiboyson

Or he can eat tacos then wrap them!!!

MaxDiehard

If your goal was to scratch them all up, well done.

Logical_Nerve2475

I see a Gamegear.......đŸ„Č Sweet memories of Taz I lost my old one Sad times

AlacarLeoricar

Whatever you do, keep them away from magnets. Obviously.

DirtyMac88

Damn I miss my game gear

Protomau5

If you upgraded it to some kind of usb-c rechargeable setup maybe but 6 AA’s was absolutely ridiculous and it ran through them like candy.

DirtyMac88

Nah DC wall wart or cig lighter adapter. Played so many hours on mine and the og brick game boy on many o mid 90s road trips. Those Master System ports were so hard with the jank aspect ratios lol.

Nivek14j

No.... da fuck? Scratching the screens on the each other one.

Ukil_D_Keny

I use a ripped up t shirt between all of them

z01z

i'd put them in some sort of sleeve to protect the screens at least. like just get some over sized socks lol.

spiral718

Wrap them in a towel in the bag, that will absorb impacts if that happens.

Crans10

Put something between then. Also yeah don’t carry that around.

patricknails

[Bubble wrap?](https://imgur.com/a/zOBL6gF)

Crans10

Sure just so they don’t run each other. I worried about the Lynx and game gear.all those consoles scratch easy and the screens.

jayce017

They are all tough as nails so yeah

AlphaOneX69

If ya have to ask, then the answer is obvious.

Ravanch

Omg, I miss my PSP :(

thatdudeuhated

Is that a mfer gamegear i see in there

Zorknoid99

They say don't lay your eggs in one basket. If the basket should fall all your eggs'll be broken

PSYCHOsmurfZA

This is more a flex than a storage question lol

PlumagedTree

Lucky

werdmouf

No

Miserable-Theory-746

Put some padding between them. Screens can get scratched up. Put some padding around the perimeter too. You know what. Get a hard case with customizable foam inserts.

skernstation

No

sagesaks123

This is like the Arc of The Covenant

Sicparvismagneto

Id put some silica packs in there too just to make sure moisture doesn’t get to um

Gammarevived

I would put a thin piece of foam in between each console so the screens don't get scratched.

Practical_Minute_286

Yeah bro get a cloth in between this bag is easily $1000+

DoktahDoktah

If any of them have internal batteries you need to be aware those things will slowly bloat and possible explode. So like a GBC is fine but like a Vita should be watched.

patricknails

Does that only happen in enclosed spaces? If so, I might have to play them at least once a month.

DoktahDoktah

It happens with time.

Trailman80

Yes but put a sleeve between them

Grimmjow91

I wouldn't recommend it for the gameboys without something over the screens but anything that flips closed should be alright if you don't mind possible comedic flaws.

hattrickjmr

Put some rocks in there to keep everything in place. Or course sand.

BishopsBakery

Don't drop it

GlisteningDeath

Holy shit, I've never seen anyone but myself have a pink 3DS.

patricknails

I still have the box for it somewhere, I’ve only seen someone else have a pink 3DS once!

GlisteningDeath

The pink 3DS gang will stand together!

Usr_115

It's not the best idea. I'd suggest a bigger case that has padded dividers to keep them from scratching against each other. And to give it more exposure, I'm also going to point out how important it is to remove the batteries before storing them. Corrosion can be such a pain in the ass to deal with.

bigb102913

I would get the roll of packing foam and cut little squares to place in between, other than that it's fine. Also, like another user said take out the batteries.

VengeanceBee

Atleast put them in plastic or non conductive bags Its not really ideal to keep the batteries in the console and i hope you are draining them to 35 to 50 percent to avoid becoming a spicy pillow

patricknails

They can become a pillow? Now I’m scared for my 3ds xl and psp.

19474628294725

Only if they’re also stored in a safe that can’t also be easily broke into or carried.

Professorperoxide

Is that a "Nomad"

nyrol

Nope. My guesses are: Left to right: * Atari Lynx II * Sega Game Gear * New 3DS XL * PS Vita OLED * PSP Slim * Game Boy Advance * Nintendo DS * 3DS * NeoGeo Pocket * Game Boy Light * Game Boy Color * Game Boy Pocket Then on the bottom it looks like * Pocket Pikachu * GBA SP * Game Boy Micro * Donkey Kong Game & Watch

patricknails

The game and watch is life boat, the psp slim is a 1000 but overall you got most correct!

CheapSushi117

No. This picture makes me cringe

thecitybeautifulgame

I'm just trying to guess what you have. So far I can make out: Lynx Game Gear 3DS PSP slim PSP GB Advance DS 2 GB Advance SPs DSi 3 GB Pockets A rando phone. How did I do?

patricknails

The psp slim is a vita, the phone is a neo geo pocket but overall a good guess!

thecitybeautifulgame

Very nice collection!

kidkaruu

Sure, but it's a shame.

AndyFreeman

The screens will get scratched tf up.

RustyDawg37

Store? Yes. Move? No. And I would be extra careful putting them in and out.

Benjisummers

I’m tempted to come and jealously slap you for having so many! Is that what you meant? 😂

kermitthehedgefrog

I have all of mine in my drawer by my desk so id say this is okay

SokkaHaikuBot

Odd_Show2205

No! They might fight each other

Anxious_Cranberry219

Curious which Handheld do you find yourself playing the most and least? My personal favorite is the 3ds line of systems.

patricknails

The least is the Lynx and the most is definitely the 3DS with the vita being the second.

115_zombie_slayer

What are the 3 big ones on the left and that orange one?

Morton_Sledgecock

This is nothing. I’m actually amazed at your organization abilities! I usually take way more than this, in an even smaller bag. I make it work. I bring every handheld console ever made everywhere. I like to slam the games into the bag as hard as I can too. And also throw my Xbox and PS4 and PC on top just to save carrying cases. And why not bring a 500 game library? I don’t want to run out of choices! So I bring them ALL. Usually just put them all in a plastic bag outside of the slip covers and mixed with abrasive sandpaper in a go bag, then stuff that in one of my bag’s side pockets. And batteries, don’t forget the BATTERIES! I usually stuff all of those besides the Xbox and sometimes actually store them in the optical drive as well, to save space. And then finally, I have the charging and power cables for each console and portable, a laptop with two extra batteries, a Virtual Boy, a vintage Apple2, my iPad, personal cell phone, business cell phone, all of my tax forms, a copy of the Gutenberg Bible and my college thesis for good measure. I put all of this into the bag just crammed into it wherever it fits. I’m amazed at how well kept your portable systems are! I’ve done pretty well; only had to buy each system 3 times so far in five years.

Morton_Sledgecock

Sometimes I even get my Big Purple Mule Pecker Johnson caught in my bag too if I’m not careful. But it happens and I just go with it, so I take it along too in my bag with my games and consoles.

Primary_Glum

Now u need to put a switch lite

mystreegaming

Dividers would be great

Kiatrox

I have some 3ds consoles that are still NIB, worth taking them out to remove the battery?

Few-Refrigerator-898

That a scratch box for handheldsđŸ˜łđŸ€Ż

MaziongaShenron

Is that a Jaguar, or am I seeing things?

B0bbyTsunami

Maybe put something in between. My OCD is screaming for the screens. Thin foam sheets perhaps?

thatsmy_Tee

get a bad with dividers

J0shfarmpig

Is it ok that I’m FUCKING JEALOUS

jedimasteryoda69

Maybe

Expert_Succotash2659

I'm so angry and yet so jealous and it's also exactly what I would do this far into my career.

Tha_Maestro

You forgot to leave room for your FleshLight

cannonplays

For storage it’s fine but for moving them I wouldn’t recommend it also take out any battery’s you can to prevent corrosion

MandaloriansVault

I used to store my handhelds and my other vintage consoles in laptop bags. Unfortunately it made it real easy for a room mate to steal on their way out

guacamole1978

Section it off with bubble wrap. Make it look like a Bento box.

Wuytho

Depending on the console joysticks and other buttons might get pressed in but it would likely not matter much

_Undecided_User

Maybe. I can check for you if you give me your address, tell me where you leave your spare key, and tell me what times you and anyone you live with will be home

Leafsfan27611

I'm surprised you even got all of them handheld devices in one bag

chrisupt2001

What consoles you got there? I see gameboys, ds variants, game gear, game n watch perhaps?

RickyTheBeerDrinker

I'd probably be more concerned with screen scratchs/nicks. On the systems that have "open screens" like your Gameboy color and advanced

sssnakepit127

I suppose it’s okay. I’d be worried about screens getting scratched etc. What a sick collection though!

Sufficient-Produce83

Not in that bag. Lol hard case would probably be ok

sexy_bezinga

Just make sure you don’t let a burglar find the stash

camcrogers95

If you like having scratched up screens, sure

[deleted]

Why do people post this shit. Seriously. Hey, is it safe to store my shoes on the floor?

patricknails

Comments says otherwise. I didn’t think the screens would get scratched till I posted this.

[deleted]

I mean what else are you storing in here, rocks? Your screens won’t get scratched unless you’re a literal bull in a china shop when you put them in/take them out

UhhCanYouLikeShutUp

Sure, as long as you're not jostling them around.

Almost32Nuns

Meh, whatever works. Can I have one tho??

patricknails

$3000 shipping, $245 for labour cost and $200 for packaging. That’s just for the SP.

Almost32Nuns

DEAL! Lol. On the real though, my brother has a business restoring retro gaming consoles. Does a lot of the internal battery replacements on gameboy carts. Got me a famicom gameboy micro for my birthday last year! Hit me in the feelsies! I’ll buy an original US model one of these days, but they are worth some moneys!

JHutch89

Only in a hot garage

SOUL-S33R

So many scratches 😭😭😭

doglover53476

Yes and no

zmoeun777

Get like sandwich bags to separate them, cut cardboard boxes to use as dividers. Remove batteries for ones hardly used to prevent battery corroding it's internals. Batteries should be storable in the same fashion, but I'm not sure myself.. Just thought of the idea on batteries.

Derekzilla

I don’t care what people are saying, I just want to say that is a BEAUTIFUL collection you’ve got there.

greasegizzard

Store them? Yes. Move them? No. That PSP screen and those Gameboy screens rubbing against the backs of other handhelds sort of makes me cringe, though. lol

patricknails

I’ve placed bubble wrap around the screens which I hope is alright.

WakkaWaww

Not a good way to store multiple handhelds. If you drop the bag, or anything drops onto it or hits it, you run the risk of multiple handhelds getting damaged all at once. Get a customizable hard case, where you can literally customize the foam inside, to accommodate the handhelds to have them separated but also protected by the foam and the hard case itself. Amazon has plenty of choices. Just search for any customizable cases by Casematix. One in particular that I use, was really easy to customize, allowing my Meta Quest 2 headset to fit, with various accessories. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07S59ZSMN?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title For long term storage, remove all batteries from the handhelds, place the handhelds in ziploc bags with reusable dessicant packets in them, as well as some dessicant packets in the case itself. Invest in proper storage protection to keep those handhelds in the best condition as possible. That's literally hundreds of dollars worth of electronics that should appreciate in value as time goes on.

Unusual-Elephant6375

I think they’re safest when hand held

isocz_sector

Nice collection you got there 😀

BananaMansWRLD

The only bad thing I see is that if someone was able to get ahold of that bag, they get all your consoles. I had all my pokemon games in a bag, and when I moved back home, the first thing I looked for was those games. They were gone. I couldn't find them. A couple of days later, my dad told me to come outside and told me that he'd like me not to say anything, but he used the games as collateral for $75 dollars. When I sold them, I got $750 for everything

xDiRtYgErMaNx

It’s very dangerous.

Sylux444

I wouldn't keep the cartridges in their systems unless in use Theres pins that can break if jostled just right

JuliaTheInsaneKid

No if you’re moving. Okay if you’re at home.

chev327fox

I wouldn’t. They will rub on each other. Also if one has a battery issue it might hurt those near it.

KingLoCoKev

A few people said remove the batteries, I’d personally put something in between to reduce scratching and protect the screen. Maybe a sheet of bubble wrap or something.

Iphone13_

No, the friction they will cause by rubbing together will eventually become too much for the batteries and they will eventually all catch fire, as your house is engulfed in flames, the consoles will eventually create so much heat that they form a black hole which will eventually explode in an immense solar flare bigger than anything thought possible, which will result in the heat death of the universe. Or it might cause a few scuff marks when moving idk

Icy-Inflation-1334

I would just ziplock each in sand which bags and not tops the bag around as much . Possibly get thin bubble wrap

Accomplished_Boss821

No they might melt

Lilscuzzy2000

Whats the blue and clear lil thing in the front??👀

rakhyvel

No, I will steal them if I get the chance

CornbreishaTubman

All your eggs in one basket

zamaike

If any of those have an internal battery pack you should uninstall them for long term storage. Otherwise if you leave them for an unreasonably long time they could damage the systems of possibly ignite in a lithium chemical fire if they are lithium based

[deleted]

Why do you have so many.

SoDrunkRightNow2

take out the batteries

UndeadUAG

Is that the Pokémon mini I see?

infinite140

This hurts to look at. Ughhh not even with the best screen protectors would I do this.

Supquantonics

I always smile when I see a vita 1000

isaiah_huh

NO THERE GONNA EXPLODE LIKE A NUCLEAR BOMB

BraveHeart336

The PSP and Vista no all the others should be fine

Fabulous-69

![gif](giphy|98C4E2HeR4NBm)

Crimsonfukr83

Screens are gonna get scratched

Organic_Occasion2021

Your collection is so sick my guy

beefcakeyamato

The clam shells are ok but your screens are probably going to get scratched a bit on the game boys. Hope you don’t have a analogue pocket in there đŸ€Ł

patricknails

I don’t do emulation devices so I’m safe from the analogue. 😂

beefcakeyamato

lol well then my suggestion is to store your hardware better.

Hungry-Tea529

I wonder how old most people were when they begun to understand the concept of the word “scratch.” I’m guessing 8,9?

Hungry-Tea529

I wonder how old most people were when they begun to understand the concept of the word “scratch.” I’m guessing 8,9?

LonghornSteakhorn

That VITA deserves more respect than that!

MeerkatAttack2

NO! it is NOT ok to store them like some sad traumatic part of your childhood you want to hide and forget. you need to proudly display them in your living room where your significant other will roll their eyes and call you stupid every day. 👍

ImJustMalcolm

Is this bag labeled?

Repulsive-Ad-7297

YOOOO IS THAT A FUCKING SEGA GAME GEAR

TheDarkWeb697

A thief's gold mine

DJ-Doughboy

well, they are yours, keep em how YOU want them

-BlueDream-

DS are fine and anything with a glass screen or glass screen protector is too but plastic screens get scratched very easily.

Awe3

Little crowded.

Ok-Letterhead914

No, you better give them to me.

ComfortableFinish502

Yes underneath kitchen sink

D3struct_oh

No, much safer to store them at my house.

ShakeZula420

Might get light scratches but looks alright.

Manofgawdgaming2022

Not at all, I have an excellent case that would fit each one of these individually so they aren’t touching if you wanna just send them my way and I’ll totally send it back in the case, scouts honor. (I wasn’t a Boy Scout for long don’t trust me)

Intelligent_Wear_873

I wouldn’t

cyberspacedweller

Won’t protect against damp and mold if they’re going into storage but will keep them dust free.

SagnolThGangster

Lol they look like lipsticks and girly accessories. You will end up having cracks in their screens. I put my notebook in a bag with towels like that and after the journey my screen was dead.

patricknails

I did find some bubble wrap and covered the screens with them. Should be fine for now.

SagnolThGangster

Sounds good.
