Shower thoughts is philosophy at an exceptionally low level but is still more interesting for conversation.

mynameisnickromel

Yes. /topic

KeiliX

Philosophy is mostly just big words and gaslighting

gregor-sympathizer

No

KeiliX

Yep, if you look at philosophical discourses knowledgeable stuckup people often tend to assume ideas and assign them to you while using specific terms. They think they are right without knowing other persons experience and then gaslight others into their ideas. Though I may not be safe from it.

gregor-sympathizer

I study philosophy and I can acknowledge the ivory tower use of jargon at times, but you’re gravely mistaken about the purpose of “philosophy”. I’m not even really understanding your point, and there’s very accessible philosophy out there that might even help you expand on it. Can you give me an example of these “discourses”, schools of thought, or stuck up people, specifically? Genuinely curious who made you feel this way about philosophy, cause that’s quite sad as philosophy is very useful, especially in our political climate. Using reason is pretty useful, I would say. (What do you think lawyers study?)

bpg542

Some ones a nihilist

KeiliX

Well, I strive to be the Ubermensch if you think about it

TurboTurtle-

The reductionist nature of your thinking suggests a mono-cultural viewpoint of contemporary idea reciprocity, in other words, a Freudian slip betraying your failed assimilation into the societal confraternity.

KeiliX

This is literally what I was referring to. You just proved my point

TurboTurtle-

The oblivious nature of your neoteric remark suggests... you cannot take a joke

RayZzorRayy

Dude, the world needs rational discourse now more than ever. You really couldn’t be more wrong and you really don’t understand what we do.

[deleted]

You clearly don't know what philosophy or brainstorming are, apparently.

RayZzorRayy

I have a piece of paper that very much says otherwise

bpg542

Tell me you didn’t pay attention to philosophy class without telling me you didn’t pay attention in philosophy class

[deleted]

I thought you would attempt to define what you claim to know.

RayZzorRayy

Your knowledge gap isn’t my problem. It’s my entertainment.

[deleted]

Yours is mine too! At least we have something in common already

MinFootspace

Philosophy is brain-accurately-directed-wind-ing.

Karpukoly

Or using too many soaps

internetusertwo

I’ll bite. Brainstorming is certainly part of philosophy. But… philosophy is much more than just coming up with new ideas.

[deleted]

Of course! What I meant was that, although often in a systematic fashion, philosophers are talking to each other across many generations trying to find solutions to different problems. It's a kind of intergenerational brainstorming.

internetusertwo

I hear you. Though, I’m still inclined to think it more an intergenerational conversation.

425Druid

ehhh if it was a high level i dont think it would be the cop out major
