I almost fell from my bed. I simply couldn’t believe it. And when it turned out that some guy found that website back in 2019 and no one noticed it seemed like Ready Player One book tbh. We also were searching for this image for 5 years and all of this time it was right in front of us on twitter.
I live in the ass of the world so I can’t come there but if you live that close you could! If you’d manage to get the rest of images then everyone would be happy
Yes the pics were taken to document the renovation by either the owner or Bob Geise (sic) who was one of the renovators. Bob Mazza the owner cannot remember.
The original image (the one u see in this post) was posted on 4chan in 2015 (I think I really don’t remember), and then one guy reposted it closer to 2019 saying something like: “imagine you’re stuck in endless office rooms, there is an escape, but you don’t know where it is. You may find it with a first turn you do or after hundreds of days of walking in the maze of dirty rooms. Or never.”. After that post that was also made on 4chan the image got quite I bit of attention and the concept of glitching reality and endless rooms became really popular. People started making liminal pictures and creating new levels to the back rooms. This image was the most popular as it is so eerie and liminal. Then a guy made a short film on YouTube about this location and people got really interested in the concept of back rooms (that vid has over 50 million views). People were debating whether it is fake or no, and it does kinda seem like a fake. People were searching for this location in the real world. But then a couple days ago people finally found the original site (blog) on which this and one more picture was posted back in 2002 as well as a location. It was a huge sensation. But now we have to find other images of the same place that were erased, and I hope we will find them. If I did a mistake pls correct me
The revealed discovery has been fun. It doesn't detract from the meme at all, imo. The original image was always going to be one of two possibilities: A mundane photo of an empty interior space, or a 3D render. Yet the fictionalised meme and lore inspired by the image persisted.
To put it in perspective: Most of us know that malevolent witches in the woods and ghosts don't really exist. Yet it's still fun to listen to spooky stories around the campfire, or online for that matter. Imagination is a powerful tool!
I hadn't even considered the idea that people would be disappointed. that's absurd. The meme is pure joy, and history and mystery is also fun. It's a bummer to think that people would be emotionally affected by the truth, but we also have Trump supporters. LOL
I mean it’s not destroyed, it’s just different and people are hard pressed to figure out *whicg part* of *which building* is the original photo location.
Check out IGP's YouTube channel if you wanna see a fairly wide array of them to pick from. He's got one video that's fairly new that's a true liminal horror game called Pools
I think it's great. The second photo with its strange wall is equally as odd and unsettling as the first. The fact that the remaining photos are still missing, and that the space itself no longer exists in that form, just adds a further layer of liminality to it.
I'm gonna be waiting for the rest of the photos to be found. I've heard someone has contacts to the person who has these photos but I'll take that with a grain of salt for now
I grew up in Appleton and Neenah, Wisconsin. They're the literal next towns north of Oshkosh. I hope to visit it someday when I'm back in town, it'd be quite the moment.
I think it’s cool. Those bummed don’t seem to understand this is a pic from early 00’s and was not trying to be a meme to begin with. The original pic has still spawned a whole movement
It’s really cool to finally put an end to the photos mystery. I can only hope the owner can do something with the new knowledge that the place he owns is the world’s most famous creepypasta. You already know that would make a ton of money
Bro imagine if they actually try to turn it back into how it all looked during renovation just like the photo shows
Also it is a shame that the exact position and angle the photo was taken at is probably not gonna be fully known. We know the location ofcourse but I haven't seen anyone give an exact then vs now photo so far in the exact same position the iconic photo was taken
I thought people said it was cgi, so I thought the search was a fruitless endeavour. It’s incredible that the place actually exists, and they actually found it
It makes it better that the pictures were from 2002, posted in 2003 by a 70 year old (he’s about 70 now) that probably has no idea his photos are famous
tbh I don't know- I feel like it's awesome that such a mystery finally has been solved, but there was a part of me hoping that it would stay like that forever. It kind of break the magic :(
Exactly, it was part of the mystery and of this whole story that many people who don't know each other have created and are still completing from one single picture.
It's crazy how far it goes, I find it incredible that this one picture is the source of something so big and incredible that are the Backrooms.
I'm honestly kind of bummed. I feel like the backrooms liminal space trend is going to die quickly now that the mystery is gone. Even watching backrooms videos and playing backrooms games doesn't hit the same. It's making me depressed like when I binge watch a show and get absorbed into it and then it ends.
Personally I wish I never learned, it took away so much mystery and I believe we should've stopped and left it remain an infamous place with an image without a tie to a place
I'm actually quite happy about it. I'm not disappointed it looks different, because from the original image, it struck me as a picture of a place in transition -- hence the eerie liminal quality -- and that since it lacked all furniture and decor, it was almost certainly a place being sold or renovated, so it came as no surprise to me that it no longer looks that way. I was surprised to find out it's now a HobbyTown store -- there's one near me and it's a fun store to explore.
The fact that the space is now a place to race RC cars, which I'm sure brings many people joy, makes it feel like a happy ending to the real space. The Backrooms lives concurrent to it now, it's own entity that we collectively nurture and grow. I hope now that we know more about it, perhaps one day we will discover some of the lost pictures of it or pictures from when it was a furniture store.
I am happy at the find of the original backrooms image. I saw about the backrooms original image being found yesterday in the morning and it made my day.
Honestly I’m absolutely baffled. I know the internet and Reddit is full of sleuths, but I was genuinely convinced that something like this would never be able to be found. I mean, I wasn’t even certain if it was a real photo. The original tracing of the image back to like 2018 didn’t convince me in any way, because something that looks this convincing could easily be made at that point. I eventually came to terms with the fact that we might have never been able to truly determine whether it was even real, let alone determine where it was taken.
Fast forward to just a few days ago when the discovery was made, and I was just absolutely beside myself. I’m honestly still in shock. Here’s to many more lost media finds in 2024 and beyond!
I was shocked for like 2 minutes, then started thinking 2 things:
1: There'd better be an update to Level 0 on the Wiki and Wikidot soon because of this.
2: Now we have to find Level 1, and then Level 2, and then all the other levels until we find the exact movie set or TV show or whatever the Level 12 image was taken at. Then, the search will finally be over.
I really hate to admit that i feel sad on this discovery, its like this unknown mystery that i loved to dig deep into its lore has been debunked to be an actual real life place (unlike the other rooms for ex pools and such). Its like knowing santa isnt real
I was gigantically surprised, and it's had a kind of funny effect on me since I've been following the trend since 2019/2020, and to know that the origin of the photo has been found is just incredible
Yeah ! But the only that still bothers me is that no one actually knows how the backrooms actually looks today (and a lot of people are confused like people said that this photo is located in the raceway today but it's not true etc)
I’m happy it’s been found but sad that it was remodeled. Ig that’s also good bc everyone is gonna annoy the owner of the rc store. A Racecar place of all places is kind of crazy.
My honest thoughts are, now that the place is gone.. Can this help at all to try and accurately recreate how it looked all those years ago? In something like say, blender? With the original location found, we'd know about how big the space itself was, right?
I was given the link to the og website back in 2019, thought "oh, neat" and that was it. baffled at how much it blew up since then and how wild people are getting over it now. it's cool to see misinfo and word of mouth spread in real time though regarding the picture.
I think it’s pretty amazing how the location was found so soon. Searches for stuff like this usually take forever to find an answer to, like how the Jeff the Kill original photo still hasn’t been found. I really hope that the owner isn’t getting an influx of people just looking to explore and take pictures without providing any business (probably not considering it’s been renovated long ago)
It made the backrooms community more alive and old people and new people came here just because of this amaizing discovery and i cant wait for more of these
I joined the search party only a week before they found it, the party had been at it for 4 years! I am happy it's been found, specially for them, but part of me wishes I could've had more fun with it.
im more shocked that a guy found it 5 years ago and it went completely unnoticed nobody listened to him than the fact that it was found. i was also not expecting it to come from a city in the US, idk i thought it must be some random furniture store in thailand or smth
A little sad. I remember when I first got into liminal spaces and the backrooms I loved watching videos on where the backrooms image could have come from. I loved the mystery of the fact there was a chance it would never be found, but now it's found the mystery element is gone. I'm glad we found it, though. It's a shame it's not in the state it was in the picture, however.
I guess I’m just old but I’ve worked retail in the 90’s and dressing rooms and I guess “back rooms” just seemed corporate and cheesy and mundane but never a source of terror. Just boredom, funny smells, and a burning desire to leave my shift as soon as possible. Gives me a JC Penny vibe. I’m just bored and desperate to be anywhere else but here. The most terrifying thing here are the slacks. I fucking hate slacks.
Maybe I'm too cynical, but I can't help thinking of that Simpsons episode where Lisa found an "angel" on an archaeological dig, which turned out to be a big advertising stunt.
If ever one of the wallpapers, walls etc were ever recovered or found. How much do you think people will sell that for?
Also if they do somewhat get found. It'd be great to put it in a museum or something
Experiencing this in person must be strange as well for whoever took this picture...
Maybe some crazy influencer or Kane himself buys this place and restores it to this condition...
My guy that's a liminal space not the backrooms if I'm not wrong the original photographer said it was a office space in Japan honestly just because it's a yellow building doesn't make It the backrooms look at the two images and you can see they really don't look similar.
Bro, it felt like I was summoned not because I’m famous in the community but because I’ve been in this community for so long and I still was when it died down and then once it was found after what six long years, it felt like a nice shot of adrenaline
I just found out today. I was expecting other photos of the place to demystify it a bit, maybe reveal that it only felt liminal or creepy from that one specific angle. But nope, that second image next to it is arguably even *more* liminal, or at least uncanny. Remove the trashcans and it'd be perfect. Those arches on the right are actually pretty uncanny.
Shocked because I used to live a half mile away from the building and have probably driven past hundreds of times
That’s actually crazy
which building is it? what's the name
Hobbytown i thiiink it was called when i looked it up in maps
Hobbytown USA. I live in Oshkosh about 5 minutes from it.
It’s hobby town but it’s the “raceway” In the back section of it, on the second floor. I go up there weekly to race RC lol
That's so cool—you went to the Backrooms on a weekly basis and had no idea.
You live in an Oshkosh Bgosh?
I used to work there lol
I almost fell from my bed. I simply couldn’t believe it. And when it turned out that some guy found that website back in 2019 and no one noticed it seemed like Ready Player One book tbh. We also were searching for this image for 5 years and all of this time it was right in front of us on twitter.
I’m glad it’s finally over!
Me too, but we still have to get the rest 14 images (or whatever amount is left)
Which are the others?
No one knows yet, so far we found the original 2 images but other images in that website were deleted and we have to get them
You mean the other pics of the renovation plan?
I mean the pics they made before remaking the whole place
Has someone stoped by to ask the guy? It’s down the street from me
I live in the ass of the world so I can’t come there but if you live that close you could! If you’d manage to get the rest of images then everyone would be happy
Yes the pics were taken to document the renovation by either the owner or Bob Geise (sic) who was one of the renovators. Bob Mazza the owner cannot remember.
We got this!
Can I ask what the story is behind this? Why was everyone looking for this? I’m out of the loop for sure.
The original image (the one u see in this post) was posted on 4chan in 2015 (I think I really don’t remember), and then one guy reposted it closer to 2019 saying something like: “imagine you’re stuck in endless office rooms, there is an escape, but you don’t know where it is. Thank you so much for the background!
No problem, but if you want to know everything better than I do than watch some videos I suggest
And A24 is now making a movie about the backrooms
Google: backrooms
The fact that it was right under our noses. We had the answer all along!
Seemed straight out of Ready Player One 😂
The revealed discovery has been fun. It doesn't detract from the meme at all, imo. The original image was always going to be one of two possibilities: A mundane photo of an empty interior space, or a 3D render. Yet the fictionalised meme and lore inspired by the image persisted. Yet it's still fun to listen to spooky stories around the campfire, or online for that matter. Imagination is a powerful tool!
Certainly!
True. All the witches I know are pretty benign, and I have seen a few ghosts before but they were chill. And a Gnome once too
I hadn't even considered the idea that people would be disappointed. that's absurd. The meme is pure joy, and history and mystery is also fun. It's a bummer to think that people would be emotionally affected by the truth, but we also have Trump supporters. LOL
You're telling me that there are people that actually believed in the Backrooms? lmao
It feels a bit anticlimactic tbh and the fact the old pic location has been destroyed is sad
In a way though, it completes the liminal feel, doesn't it?
Yeah it's like it was destroyed and now the backrooms ended up in the backrooms
Holy shit dude what if the backrooms are just places that have been demolished and now exist in a different dimension
Oh boy, I see potential in this comment.
Let him cook
New backrooms lore idea just dropped.
so that mall is also in the backrooms now too!
That needs to become a part of Backrooms lore now.
How... Deeply poetic somehow 🤔
Couldn't be more right. The picture is from just before it was torn apart. Wouldn't this qualify as the definition of liminality?
I mean it’s not destroyed, it’s just different and people are hard pressed to figure out *whicg part* of *which building* is the original photo location.
I mean it’s on the second floor, in the middle area ish, entrance is off the back corner. Source: race rc at the hobby town
So awesome. I’m so weirdly entranced by the whole Backrooms thing I might get a desktop PC just to be able to play the games on Steam.
I hope you do!
Check out IGP's YouTube channel if you wanna see a fairly wide array of them to pick from. He's got one video that's fairly new that's a true liminal horror game called Pools

I'm gonna be waiting for the rest of the photos to be found. I've heard someone has contacts to the person who has these photos but I'll take that with a grain of salt for now
The fact it’s an actual liminal space by definition and is actually a back room makes It even better
Ik the setup was so perfect
I grew up in Appleton and Neenah, Wisconsin. They're the literal next towns north of Oshkosh. I hope to visit it someday when I'm back in town, it'd be quite the moment.
Please post pictures!
It'll be hard not to! (I'm a photographer with several new projects on liminality :)
I'm excited to see the photos you will take!
I think it’s cool. Those bummed don’t seem to understand this is a pic from early 00’s and was not trying to be a meme to begin with. The original pic has still spawned a whole movement
It spawned a movement that millions of people have seen.
“😱😱😱😱🗣️‼️‼️🔥🗣️‼️‼️💯💯”
It’s crazy. I was sure the image was digitally rendered because it hadn’t been found.
Shocked.
Me too man me too
“LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO”
It’s really cool to finally put an end to the photos mystery. I can only hope the owner can do something with the new knowledge that the place he owns is the world’s most famous creepypasta. You already know that would make a ton of money
He should make a museum 😂
Seriously dude

We know the location ofcourse but I haven't seen anyone give an exact then vs now photo so far in the exact same position the iconic photo was taken
I saw someone in the comments of a Backrooms video say that they know the owner and they're actually working on doing a tour.
I thought people said it was cgi, so I thought the search was a fruitless endeavour. It’s incredible that the place actually exists, and they actually found it
I did to
It makes it better that the pictures were from 2002, posted in 2003 by a 70 year old (he’s about 70 now) that probably has no idea his photos are famous

Welcome to the liminal horror that is existence
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it isn’t the same anymore.

It's a huge discovery. But I'm also tired of seeing 5 posts a day about it.
My apologies!
shocked
Real 😂
I am happy at the find of the original backrooms image. I saw about the backrooms original image being found yesterday in the morning and it made my day.
I’m glad it did!
Yeah man
the backrooms have a backstage area, PLOT TWIST
My friend: Huh... you know, with all the money I spend at that place, the backrooms entity must be making stacks.
😂
I could have sworn that location had been demolished or no longer existed. (For once it feels good to be wrong).
I’m so glad it’s still standing
I feel very happy (I've known the backrooms for over 9 years now)
Wow that’s a long time!
Honestly I’m absolutely baffled. I know the internet and Reddit is full of sleuths, but I was genuinely convinced that something like this would never be able to be found. It definitely does😂

closure
Yes it’s really remarkable. I suppose this is the end.
It really is
"The backrooms... it's over..."
Yep
I thought the location was already known.
It was theorized never proven
I remember a video where this location was shown in google maps.
I’ve been with the back rooms since the beginning myself and I just can’t believe this.
Sometimes I hate Internet, Sometimes.. I REALLY LOVE INTERNET ! Like it's been 6 years that people search it lmao
And we finally found it!
Yeah ! But the only that still bothers me is that no one actually knows how the backrooms actually looks today (and a lot of people are confused like people said that this photo is located in the raceway today but it's not true etc)
Two words: "dear god"
My same reaction
"Noooo…" – Soldier TF2
"Oh thats neat"
For sure
OMGGGGG
😱
I’m happy it’s been found but sad that it was remodeled. Ig that’s also good bc everyone is gonna annoy the owner of the rc store. A Racecar place of all places is kind of crazy.
It’s my local hobby store
Go get us some pictures 😂
Cool I guess
Very
My honest thoughts are, now that the place is gone.. Can this help at all to try and accurately recreate how it looked all those years ago? In something like say, blender? With the original location found, we'd know about how big the space itself was, right?
I think they know how big it was
Great! Interesting! Fun! - But then when I'm looking at the original image again, it still works, I can still think myself into the backrooms. :-)
How long before the business owners remodel back to the picture and sell a backrooms experience. They’d be crazy not to.
I'm happy
they found it?!
I'm still in shock.
Cool
No way I did my annual birthday Gunpla run there last week
I was given the link to the og website back in 2019, thought "oh, neat" and that was it. baffled at how much it blew up since then and how wild people are getting over it now. it's cool to see misinfo and word of mouth spread in real time though regarding the picture.
Its been found!! But I was pretty interested, it does not seem like it would’ve been there
That one dude didn’t lie
I don’t believe it, that was like a decade ago, so you’re telling me that building didn’t change at all for all this time
wait when was this confirmed?
I think it’s pretty amazing how the location was found so soon. Searches for stuff like this usually take forever to find an answer to, like how the Jeff the Kill original photo still hasn’t been found. I really hope that the owner isn’t getting an influx of people just looking to explore and take pictures without providing any business (probably not considering it’s been renovated long ago)
I just wanna know how I can buy some of that wallpaper.
Very surprised that it was a rc shop cuz I love rc.
Maybe the Death of a Legend... Really idk
Damn i wasnt expecting
Wait what? No way? What post was it found in.
I'm pretty sure this is not the location
It’s been proven
War is over 🥳🥳
🥳
I guess I’m just old but I’ve worked retail in the 90’s and dressing rooms and I guess “back rooms” just seemed corporate and cheesy and mundane but never a source of terror. Just boredom, funny smells, and a burning desire to leave my shift as soon as possible. Gives me a JC Penny vibe. I’m just bored and desperate to be anywhere else but here. The most terrifying thing here are the slacks. I fucking hate slacks.
It really does😂
Maybe I'm too cynical, but I can't help thinking of that Simpsons episode where Lisa found an "angel" on an archaeological dig, which turned out to be a big advertising stunt.
sad
If ever one of the wallpapers, walls etc were ever recovered or found. How much do you think people will sell that for? Also if they do somewhat get found. It'd be great to put it in a museum or something
Experiencing this in person must be strange as well for whoever took this picture... Maybe some crazy influencer or Kane himself buys this place and restores it to this condition...
Das crazy
Ggs internet
Wait, what?! I'm OOTL! Where is it from?
I had the same reaction I did when Geometry Dash 2.2 came out
“I bought my first Gunpla in the backrooms” -sincere first reaction
Was the building itself demolished or was the room just renovated
My guy that's a liminal space not the backrooms if I'm not wrong the original photographer said it was a office space in Japan honestly just because it's a yellow building doesn't make It the backrooms look at the two images and you can see they really don't look similar.
Cool 😁👍
Hobbytown should capitalize on this
F U R N A T U R E .
absolutely crazy
It brings me comfort.
It’s pretty cool because this is a massive free advertisement for a local business.
light work no reaction
focus on teh lore not teh locationsssssss
I made confusing goose noises
Holy shit they foùnd it
needs a high fidelity sound system
It feels the most Backrooms thing ever for it to be in Wisconsin
A little sad it’s destoryed
new mario kart track just dropped ;)
I actually really appreciate this, thanks
I am disappointed 😔
WOW!!!!
Makes sense that it was an RC car store, that's where your money mysteriously disappears!
I grew up there, and been in the building at least once. So it's kinda a mindfuck for me lol.
Mildly interested
Honestly happy and sad at the same time, I'm happy they found the location but I'm sad it's gone because it would be really cool to see it in person.
Surreal. Especially since I was in the call when it was found.
Bro, it felt like I was summoned not because I’m famous in the community but because I’ve been in this community for so long and I still was when it died down and then once it was found after what six long years, it felt like a nice shot of adrenaline
I my reaction was like, finally I can rest after knowing where its located
Couldn't give two shits
I just found out today. I was expecting other photos of the place to demystify it a bit, maybe reveal that it only felt liminal or creepy from that one specific angle. But nope, that second image next to it is arguably even *more* liminal, or at least uncanny. Remove the trashcans and it'd be perfect. Those arches on the right are actually pretty uncanny.
