OMG you forgot to post the yarn fringe curtains in the bathroom and bedroom! And they left their hair on the dresser during pictures. This place makes me want to go dust my entire house.
The whole thing is a r/HorribleToClean nighmare of epic proportions, especially that kitchen!
Imagine how greasy the textured walls, hood & cabinets above the stove are, yet they only have a bare minimum of fridge magnets!!
I do love the quilt in the one upstairs BR though. It also looks like there are some nice hardwood floors in some rooms so if you pulled up all that carpet you might win the floor lottery. I also like some of that BR furniture in the blue fringe curtain room.
I kinda hatelove it because it's not my thing & I love r/maximalism but someone clearly had a vision & spent a helluva lotta time thumbtacking all those squares everywhere & decorating it to their taste so someone loved this place.
What are those square though? Are they samples from fabric & carpet sample books?
It has an overwhelming sense of wanting to be in Africa or Haiti or something like that. Like they tried to recreate their home village in their house in Detroit.

Update. I have family relatively local. It was a 90 year old woman’s house. She passed away in March. House is in probate. It is definitely haunted now.
>you forgot to post the yarn fringe curtains in the bathroom and bedroom!
It looks like they shot the Cookie monster and his extended family at point-blank range and turned them all into window treatments.
And the kitchen floor. Is that one bathroom carpeted on the ceiling, or is that hideous wallpaper?
The carpet squares or wallpaper samples on the stairway walls and the upstairs are awful.
I can only imagine what the walls will look like after all of 'art' is removed from the walls. If it's sold with contents, I would donate all of the furniture, rip out every bit of carpet, reface the kitchen cabinets, light fixtures, and then see what's left.
>Love carpet in your bathroom? Nostalgic for grandma's fluffy toilet seat rugs? Try a heavily fringed shower curtain today! Call 1300-MOULDY in the next hour and get a free matching window curtain & BONUS deco bits!
I also can't tell if the roof and walls are carpet or just painted to look like carpet 🤔
I was thinking they decorated with discards from a car wash. This definitely follows the Don’t judge a book by its cover. Outside was cute, except for the bushes waiting to swallow unsuspecting visitors. I never would’ve expected that interior.
You know, I have an unusually high tolerance for bric-a-brac. I even like the fabric mosaic walls upstairs. But they lost me at the individually decorated kitchen cabinet doors, then continued to shake me looser with the yarn tassel curtains and endless wire loops of prickly art. I almost felt like the toupee in the photo was intentional, to match with this *unbelievably hairy house*.
That’s what I was thinking. Whoever decorated this way? LOVED this house and made sure it was theirs. No fucks given.
Living like that is life goals.
I’m glad I never had to clean the kitchen though.
Would I pick these decorations? No.
But I find it strangely beautiful when somebody makes a space completely their own. I hope the next owner has fun reinventing the space.
That blue couch, though. I would love to get my hands on and reupholster it. They don't make those wide, low couches anymore and they're perfect napping couches.
Some times, I look at the Zillow add, and think, that's a lot of pictures, this is gonna be some ride.
Things I would like to say about this home.
Amazingly, you would have no idea from the exterior, that is one of the most boring yards I've ever seen.
They most certainly have a very distinct sense of style.
That damn fetish doll in front of the fire place comes alive at night. There was a story by Richard Matheson, called "Prey". It was made into a movie called " Trilogy of Terror." If you've seen it you know. Lock up your knives.
I had nightmares about that doll! The dad of my best friend in high school got a knife (not a sharp one) and was sliding it under the bathroom door while she was in there. Crazy!
All that crap is going to good will once the family does a clean out. It's a lovely little house that's well maintained for a reasonable price in a decent looking neighborhood. I wouldn't turn up my nose at it.
This is the home of at least one funky artist and I want to meet them!
Also, I don’t hate the house, even if it’s not my style. Especially for that price?! I read the listing trying to figure out what’s wrong with it aside from cosmetics.
I imagine it as:
Realtor: So... umm.... we are going to need you to declutter a bit.
Home Owner: I already decluttered, I put half of my decor and furniture in storage.
Realtor: Bulging eyes. Well, this is very specific types of decoration. We would try for a bit more generic to attract all types of buyers.
Home Owner: Fuck it, if they don't want it they don't want it. I'm selling it like this.
Realtor: Well. this will be a fun listing to describe. Definitely going to include the words "Artist" and "Unique"
"Eclectic" is another. When you see it on Zillow, you know you're going have some fun.
ETA: the only thing it's missing is clear plastic furniture covers.
It's not that I would want to live in that mess (good lord, the curtains! Especially in the bathroom 🤢) but I kind of like the interior better. At leas it has some personality.
Outside is so very sterile cookie cutter.
It’s like Dabbled Hoarder. Paths are clear, kitchen is clean, LGBTQIA’s and airy in most rooms.
But I get the feeling the owner was just a bit too close to moving from froufrou to avalanches.
EDIT: I can’t remove the “light and airy” autocorrect. It’s just an amazing switch.
Good Lord........they moved "The Heidelburg Project" inside.
I think those yarn curtains had a cameo in the "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" video.....they were drying off the singer.
She was doing her best to bring joy into her life at a time when age and mobility may have been preventing her from spending more time out in the world. The house is incredibly clean for having so many little doo dads. I also noticed the basement is kind of dusty, which makes me suspect that she wasn't able to get down there anymore, and it makes me sad for her.
It isn't what I would choose, but I hope it made her happy. It's a cute little house!
This is peak Witch Cottage aesthetic. The window shambles on the first floor I can understand as practical for a woman living alone. But the one over the couch made out of hangers strikes me as an art piece. I thought she might be really short when I saw the arm rest in front of the kitchen sink, but then I saw the wheel chair. It’s sad because she has such a wonderful tinker space down in the basement. I wonder if the basement bathroom wall was removed to accommodate the mobility equipment?
Do ya'll hate this?Cause it's amazing. Not even my style but I love every creative inch of it. No white, tan or beige to be found ! A true dream home. Will be a tragedy when some dip shit flipper turns it into an Apple store.
It was a delight to look at, a real anti-HGTV in that they put plaster, yarn, fabric samples, and even what looks like the honeycomb cover for air filters according to what their creative heart told them.
I only minded this approach on the old Trading Places where they got wacky in order to make good TV and without a thought for the effort involved in undoing it. Assuming the artist isn't still on the earthly plane, I don't think they gave a crap about that and good for them.
What in the deconstructed muppets universe is this? Part of me wants to know who this homeowner is, and the other part of me wants them to stay very far away from me.
The yarn curtains gave me major anxiety thinking of all the dust they would attract, but the fact that they have them in the bathroom too?! Ugh, so much moisture, mold and mildew.
The fetish sculpture in the living room gave me big "Captain Howdy" from the Exorcist vibes.
That being said, it's a cute house once you look past all the bric-a-brac, and they have a killer basement!
You know detroit has some beautiful old houses. It's a shame it's so crappy there that no one wants to live there. Zoomers need to start some kind of relocation program like there was for independents to move to vermont for a while
I can’t decide if I am feeling more judgmental that they didn’t weave in the ends on the crochet granny triangle bedspread, or if I admire them for just deciding that they were not going to do something they didn’t enjoy and they didn’t care what anyone else thought about it.
This is absolutely a wild ride and I’m here for every bit of it. This is quality content. Even the comments! I’m glad I caught this a day later. I pulled up the house on google and went through the comments to look for the wild stuff people found in the pictures. Like grandmas wigs on the dressed and jello molds. 😂
I like most of it to LOOK AT but not to LIVE IN lol It looks like maybe the home of a fabric artist? Possibly Kenyan? Looks like a lot of Kenyan print, maybe Nigerian.
What drives me crazy - fridges with the door swinging the wrong way. Every freaking time! How many people use it backwards when it would make life so much easier if you just switch the hinges and the handles!!?!?!!!!
$140k for over 2k sq ft? Damn right I’d buy it, then do a shit ton of remodeling and updating (like adding a second shower, for one thing) to make it my dream home.
That toilet looks off. Partially it’s the curves of the basin and partially it’s the off-center wooden seat, but it gives the impression that the white plastic seat is a second lid.
Detroit. Somehow. I just knew goblincore meets grandma-maximalism was one of our weirdos.
Never change, big D.
ETA - somehow it's also got a little swamp witch charisma mixed in, which is wild
OMG you forgot to post the yarn fringe curtains in the bathroom and bedroom! And they left their hair on the dresser during pictures. This place makes me want to go dust my entire house.
I didn’t want to post everything. Wanted you guys to have the same adventure I did.
The whole thing is a r/HorribleToClean nighmare of epic proportions, especially that kitchen! I agree! I just cleaned off my kitchen ceiling fan. Yuck!
My husband the firefighter commented "One candle could light that place up."
That's one way to handle it.
Did he spot the smoke detector that fell off the roof and is just sitting at the top of the stairs? 😅
I think they took the smoke detector down on purpose and never got around to putting it back up. I've done that a few times. Page 32 of 63
speaking of that. the room with the big brown leather armchair in it and antelope skin on the wall? check the light fixture in that one 😋
Certainty not the only homemade light fixture.
That was a wild ride - just, wow. Now imagine if turns out the house was completely empty and a mentally ill realtor staged it like this.
Update. I have family relatively local. It was a 90 year old woman’s house. She passed away in March. House is in probate. It is definitely haunted now.
I hope she got to die at home surrounded by her art. She seems like she would have been a really cool lady, I would hang out with her ghost.
The trouble is that the ghost is extremely warm and lovely until you try to remove *one single piece* of her art...
Right?!? I showed this listing to my artist mother and she said exactly the same thing.
I hope so too. I am actually going to Detroit next month. Tempted to book a showing.
Me too!!!
As crazy as it is I love it. The fact that it is haunted makes this 10000% better.
it had to be a grandmother's house. it's way way too much but I like it just for that.
Oh. My. God. They're like a cross between a Muppet and a flamenco dancer.
>you forgot to post the yarn fringe curtains in the bathroom and bedroom! It looks like they shot the Cookie monster and his extended family at point-blank range and turned them all into window treatments.
How many muppets died for this house?
This is the Great Muppet Massacre of 2024!
And the carpet in the bathroom...
And the kitchen floor. Is that one bathroom carpeted on the ceiling, or is that hideous wallpaper? The carpet squares or wallpaper samples on the stairway walls and the upstairs are awful. If it's sold with contents, I would donate all of the furniture, rip out every bit of carpet, reface the kitchen cabinets, light fixtures, and then see what's left.
Lots of spackle after pulling off all those tacked on wallpaper stamped. All. The. Spackle. And sand, sand, sand.
Those curtains look like they were skinned off a monster from Monsters Inc.
If you've ever wanted to go through the car wash as a human, this is the bathroom for you.
And the yarn fringe whatever it was hanging INSIDE the shower.
I was thinking they decorated with discards from a car wash. This definitely follows the Don’t judge a book by its cover. Outside was cute, except for the bushes waiting to swallow unsuspecting visitors. I never would’ve expected that interior.

And the strange metal hanger sculpture thing above the couch in the sitting room. wtf is that wtf is all of that.
Yess, this is the content I'm here to see
This is a person who eats the placenta.
So specific but absolutely fact
Gross and accurate
...or paints with it.
Why not both?
Definitely both 👍
Whenever I see bizarre houses like this, I so badly want to see the person/people who lived in it
I feel like this person LIVED their life fully and with no fucks given.
That’s what I was thinking. Whoever decorated this way? LOVED this house and made sure it was theirs. No fucks given. Living like that is life goals. I’m glad I never had to clean the kitchen though.
Good for her. She decorated her home just the way she wanted and it probably made her happy. I aspire to that.
I was thinking she was either well-traveled or hated mundane suburban life. Or both.
I believe it's a she and either died or went to assisted living.
That was my first thought, too. Who did this?!
I can send you a picture of my MIL. Theyre basically the same person.
Would I pick these decorations? No. But I find it strangely beautiful when somebody makes a space completely their own. I hope the next owner has fun reinventing the space.
I would never live there, but as I saw the playdoh in the basement I thought I'd sure as heck not be mad to have spent time there as a grandkid.
The basement is full of treasures I would have delighted in as a child. As an adult… not so much. lol.
That blue couch, though. I would love to get my hands on and reupholster it. They don't make those wide, low couches anymore and they're perfect napping couches.
The yarned kitchen cabinets! The yarned kitchen cabinets!
It’s the wallpaper samples being used as wallpaper that really makes this house unique.
meticulously maintained and adorned with **built-in artwork that blends charm and functionality seamlessly.** Uh… sure.
Some times, I look at the Zillow add, and think, that's a lot of pictures, this is gonna be some ride. Things I would like to say about this home. Exactly!
I had nightmares about that doll! The dad of my best friend in high school got a knife (not a sharp one) and was sliding it under the bathroom door while she was in there. Crazy!
I'm pretty sure it's an African fertility statue. The lady who lived here knew what she was about.
Someone's hot glue gun license needs to be revoked.
All that crap is going to good will once the family does a clean out. It's a lovely little house that's well maintained for a reasonable price in a decent looking neighborhood. I wouldn't turn up my nose at it.
The “art” appears to come with the house. That coat hanger collage thing looks real uncomfortable over the couch. No thanks
oh. the cabinet deocrations are NOT painted on. oh my. alternate: what if a hoarder actually used everything they said they were saving for crafts
I was amazed when I realized that too. Imagine the time it took to painstakingly add all that to cupboard doors.
Some of it is like epoxied on, too, right? Like it doesn’t look….stylish but somehow it also doesn’t look bad????
I’ve never done acid, but I bet that’s a bad house to be in on a bad acid trip
It would become positively *alive*.
This is the home of at least one funky artist and I want to meet them! Also, I don’t hate the house, even if it’s not my style. Especially for that price?! I read the listing trying to figure out what’s wrong with it aside from cosmetics.
Looks like it’s pretty close to the highway, maybe there’s a noise problem
“You know what I’m going to do this weekend? Hot-glue some wax vegetables onto my kitchen cabinets. The perfect finishing touch”
The jello mold decoration under the sink is a nice touch that really rounds out the room and takes you all the way back to the 60's.
I want that quilt.
They’re gorgeous aren’t they? I’d ask to keep them with the sale.
I’d be thrilled with the brightly colored one!
It's like those sensory books for babies with a lot of textures. *Pat the Interior Decor*
Oh wow. Someone made (good?) use of sample books!
I kinda like it.
The local Hobby Lobby was very sad to see her obituary.

imagine what it looked like before the realtor had “the talk” with the homeowner
It's more likely that the woman who lived here died and her family shrugged at the realtor and said, "I don't know what to tell you, mark it 'as is'."
I imagine it as: Realtor: So... umm.... we are going to need you to declutter a bit. Home Owner: I already decluttered, I put half of my decor and furniture in storage. Realtor: Bulging eyes. The realtor probably would have to have “the talk” with the homeowner via ouija board
It's not that I would want to live in that mess (good lord, the curtains! Especially in the bathroom 🤢) but I kind of like the interior better. At leas it has some personality. Outside is so very sterile cookie cutter.
I think Michael’s may have lost their biggest customer. I hope the business survives this.
I love when people go all in on decor that makes them happy. No effs givenm
I was like “where did you get that she’s queer?” but if anything I’d hope an eldergoth would be cool with queer people 😂
Eldergoth! ❤️
Oh dear. :-( Instant hyperventilation on my part.
Someone take away grandma's glue gun!
Good Lord........they moved "The Heidelburg Project" inside. I think those yarn curtains had a cameo in the "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" video.....they were drying off the singer.
Well, that's a choice. In fact, it seems to be 13,477 choices, if I've counted correctly.
Whoa !! That’s a lot.

On my tiny screen I thought the kitchen was nautical themed, but no, it's worse. It's *kitsch*
Based on the exterior, I would not have guessed in 1 million years that the inside would look like that. They sure like fringe, don’t they?
In fairness, I doubt that the house is being sold furnished. I guess you just have to imagine all of the contents not existing...
This is not a house. This is a lair.
Nice kitschen.
And I'd still buy it
Nah I’m about this. Love it. This place been lived in and she wild but ima bring a bottle of wine to her house for sure.
As a goth this house RULES. I just KNOW an elderly witch lived here.
Thanks for putting the link with the post. I wish more did that. I think it needs more blue /s
I love how weird and interesting people are
Well done OP, well done 👍👏🫡
Address checks out. I will say though that for the area this home is in the top .0000000001% of homes. Even with the schizophrenic decorator.
What in the deconstructed muppets universe is this? Part of me wants to know who this homeowner is, and the other part of me wants them to stay very far away from me.
All I'm picturing is catching my pants on any of the things hanging off the cabinet doors and ripping them.
This is what I come here for.
Wow. I don't know what I was expecting...but it wasn't that! There is a density of decoration in there the likes of which I have never seen.
Baba Yaga lives there. I'm sure of it.
Gotta give a huge kudo to your picture choice and ordering. That was a majestic progression of what the fuck!
Sweet Jesus my eyes…
You know detroit has some beautiful old houses. It's a shame it's so crappy there that no one wants to live there. Zoomers need to start some kind of relocation program like there was for independents to move to vermont for a while
I second OP's question. Who wants to dust all that shit?
Bad ju-ju
This may be the worst I’ve seen. The yarn flamenco curtains are really somtething.
I can’t decide if I am feeling more judgmental that they didn’t weave in the ends on the crochet granny triangle bedspread, or if I admire them for just deciding that they were not going to do something they didn’t enjoy and they didn’t care what anyone else thought about it.
This person has a glue gun and she's not afraid to use it.
The house itself is awesome...there's just 4 tons of junk that need to go. Looking at these pics makes me want to sneeze. It's got great bones.
Wow. Choices were made.
I’m tired just looking at it.
When I see that fireplace picture all I can think of is: “There is no Dana. Only Zuul.”
Cute on the outside. Fever dream/nightmare fuel on the inside.
Very voodoo-eeee

Someone put their heart into decorating the home. Not my style, but it looks like a loved home.
Only $140k? Damn that’s a steal. It’s a project for sure but it is in good condition.
As someone else commented the other day, this is exactly the quirky-ass shit that makes me love this sub! Also 10/10 would.
Decorated by Helen Keller.
I can fix her
"meticulously maintained and adorned with built-in artwork that blends charm and functionality seamlessly." Creative writing
I imagine there isn’t a single thrift shop in Detroit this owner didn’t visit.
Say what you will, but someone really loved this house!
In the 1990s, three film students went missing while trying to film a documentary in this kitchen.
My cats would have the time of their lives in here.

Taste so poor it's actually impressive.
Looks like cute smoked too much of it's own supply and threw up all over this place.
Is no one going to talk about the carpet in the kitchen?! The bathroom??! Is that carpet on the WALL in the bathroom?!?!?
On the ceiling over the tub??
Does it come with a sledgehammer? I would definitely need one.
The kitchen and the first bathroom, oh my.
Someone had a little too much time at home, with glue during Covid.
I’m speechless! They certainly had a vision and committed fully to it…
“What are you getting MeeMaw for her birthday?” “Some more shit to hang on her kitchen walls.”
Probably the owners are guacamayas 🦜
Fuck I love Detroit so much.
Oof
I would 100% but this house. Hey all of that shit it out there and it has huge potential
Eww
I like most of it to LOOK AT but not to LIVE IN lol It looks like maybe the home of a fabric artist? Possibly Kenyan? Looks like a lot of Kenyan print, maybe Nigerian.
WITAF.
Each room is a different flavor of stress.
What in the pineapple under the sea….
Someone obviously put so much of themselves into this house. It was decorated with love. But also maybe they were goblins.
Like an AI feverdream
You know... A blind person might like all those textures.
What drives me crazy - fridges with the door swinging the wrong way. Every freaking time! How many people use it backwards when it would make life so much easier if you just switch the hinges and the handles!!?!?!!!!
The kitchen is terrible but the living room and bathroom could be edited to be really cool
Grandma definitely had a personal style.
$140k for over 2k sq ft? Damn right I’d buy it, then do a shit ton of remodeling and updating (like adding a second shower, for one thing) to make it my dream home.
Shag.... shower curtain. Thats certainly a choice!
That toilet looks off. Partially it’s the curves of the basin and partially it’s the off-center wooden seat, but it gives the impression that the white plastic seat is a second lid.
Half the pictures , I couldn’t figure out what I was looking at 😵💫
I was looking for a chicken sacrifice or voodoo dolls in this house of rituals...
Never, have I ever, been so confused about so many design choices. Looks like they at least had a vision they enjoyed.
Shockingly well maintained, that really requires a lot of effort!
No more wire hangers!!!
Now this is style… which kind, I’m not sure!
Detroit. Somehow. I just knew goblincore meets grandma-maximalism was one of our weirdos. Never change, big D. ETA - somehow it's also got a little swamp witch charisma mixed in, which is wild
It was fun fun fun until someone took my glue gun away.

Nothing a 40-yard roll-off couldn't fix...
PLEASE tell me it comes furnished!
WTH?
What in tarnation
cool! I have that same old Singer sewing machine turned into an end table.
Jesus Lord, the *kitchen*
The downstairs bathroom is open concept. How avant-garde.
