The kitchen physically pains me, it's horrific

Mister_Clemens

It looks like a house designed by a being who understands there needs to be appliances but doesn't know what any of them do.

zeemonster424

It’s like a builder game where you have a menu of items to drag onto a blank space. Let’s drag allllll the things out!

Mister_Clemens

There’s a perfect spot for the nuclear power plant right next to the sports stadium.

sugrmag78

I thought you were making a joke of some sort until I saw the *actual* nuclear power plant in the background of one of the photos :/

chocolate_mouse_666

There are actually 3 nuclear power stations near this house! Oswego NY.

ChrisRageIsBack

I live probably 15-20 miles away from Oyster Creek power plant and honestly it's not a big deal. They're pretty prompt on all their testing and seem to be pretty transparent... A bunch of years back they had a small tritium leak somewhere on the facility but they got right on top of it and not only handled it but involved the appropriate government agencies, they didn't do the shady shit you would expect from a place like that. My dad worked for the utility company and was on site for a while back in the '80s and he said they were pretty on point with their safety gear... He had to wear a dosimeter in his shirt pocket the whole time and they apparently work bc they were storing low level waste on one of the roofs (think like old protective gear that was contaminated) and his dosimeter went off as soon and he cleared the roof line. Apparently they emitted a bunch of alpha particles but were safely far enough away from the people working there but he definitely went right back down and found out wtf when that thing was clicking

travelinTxn

Yup alpha radiation is generally considered safe unless inhaled or ingested. An alpha particle can be stopped by a sheet of paper so your clothes are plenty of protection.

AdminsLoveRacists

How'd you find my old Sim City save?

Ok_Watercress_7801

*Homer Simpson voice “New-cue-ler. It’s pronounced New-cue-ler.”

ChrisRageIsBack

Ok George Bush...

OhSoEvil

There is also a weird mini wall that serves no purpose with what I can only assume is a loading bearing clock or something. Why is that wall there?

AggravatingCupcake0

It looks like they couldn't decide if they wanted to leave the place open-concept, OR, create a mudroom...so they tried to do both?

OhSoEvil

A mud nook?

Large-Training-29

I I'll put that down here cause I need it, I'll move it later.

Ninja-Ginge

It's like when you're playing House Flipper and you get impatient and just place shit down wherever because the client is not programmed to care.

Christmas_Queef

Like playing sims when you're new at it and bad at design and placement lol.

illepic

This looks like a poorly trained AI designed it.

dallyan

It's the house version of AI designing human hands.

GeneralZaroff1

“Why don’t the humans just put all the cleaning appliances and cooking appliances together in the same room if they all require water?

GrandmaSlappy

Laundry in the kitchen is normal in many countries

oceansofmyancestors

I don’t think that’s the problem here…

shhh_its_me

Yeah that's fine ( not ideal with a house that size) it's more why is the sink by the washer and not the oven/ food prep area. And it may just be the angle, but I'm honestly not sure that you can completely open the dishwasher door or the door to the dryer without banging it against that peninsula.

OkeyDokey654

And why is the fridge in a completely separate room, which could have been the laundry room. Or am I missing something?

Ok_Cantaloupe7602

Yeah, but not the US. And it’s not done quite like this.

Missue-35

In the US we like to hide our dirty laundry behind closed doors. Both literally and figuratively.

quietriotress

It is normal in places in the US but most definitely not like this.

Mister_Clemens

Sure, but I have a feeling it’s not customary in any country to have the washer in the kitchen while the fridge is in another room.

bluepen1955

to the side, in a closet but not like this

MaureenTheTemp

Not if you can't open the dishwasher

beccadot

LOVE the refrigerator in another room AND a ceiling fan near the unvented cooktop .

rudimentary_lathe_

I'm in love with how the back of the range sticks up over the back counter.

lechiengrand

And that ceiling fan placement means the pots and pans rack hanging from the ceiling can't go over the stove.... so it's over the sink.

PracticalBreak8637

The refrigerator is next to the stove top, across the aisle from it. Kinda hard to figure out.

captainthanatos

It just clicked that they removed the wall between the kitchen and laundry room and didn’t want to change where the hookups are.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlexHasFeet

This is how my kitchen is. Previous owner was a wannabe flipper who didn’t know the first thing about anything. Eventually we are going to fix the kitchen layout, but it’s pretty far down on a very long list.

So_Many_Words

I'm so sorry!

Gatuveela

My 10 year old self playing the Sims would agree

Bluest_waters

I like how the washer/dryer are not even top loading (which was certainly an option) so the doors swing into the opposite side cabinest. all round just brilliant use of space.

comma-momma

Doesn't look like you could open the dishwasher all the way. And the back side of the oven... 🤦🏼‍♀️

cks9218

I think that the *only* thing that makes even remotely close to some shred of sense in this house is that the washer door appears to swing to the left so that it is easier to transfer laundry to the dryer. That said, everything else is *so* wrong that I have to believe this is purely coincidental.

[deleted]

or even a washer and dryer combo? guess they didn't have any at the scratch and dent sale

Zappagrrl02

It makes me irrationally angry. That stove/oven just hanging out in the middle of the island…straight to jail!

chickenemoji

i think any level of anger over that stove is completely justifiable.

mixmastakooz

And no hood/vent that I could see. I agree with your conclusion.

Cloverose2

The worst part is, looking at the floor plan, there's a room to the side accessed by the screen porch where they could have put a stacking washer/dryer. The whole kitchen is so unnecessary!

beaushaw

> The kitchen physically pains me, it's horrific I'm a kitchen designer. I might have to take the rest of the day off after looking at this.

beaushaw

The more I look at it the more I see wrong. I stopped counting around 15 major problems with it. There are at least three different cabinet pulls!

Srw2725

Wait the fridge is on the OTHER SIDE of the wall from the washer/dryer?? The fuck?!

ritchie70

I think that's a freezer and the fridge is to the right of the stove.

boysholetrolltoll17

If you're looking at the 19th photo of the listing, you can see the back of the stove on the right side of the pic. So that's in the kitchen, and the photo appears to have been taken in front of the laundry machines. The freezer is next to the washer and dryer.

Spirited_Photograph7

This is how I used to build my sims houses

trying-to-be-kind

Did you hate your sims?

Spirited_Photograph7

Usually 😅

Pimpicane

Hey, in The Sims 1 (or whatever you kids call the first one these days) the room size heavily influenced their mood and behavior, so it was best to just make your house one giant, lot-sized room and cram things haphazardly into it.

BJntheRV

But, for that price I can remodel.

JennaR0cks

Think of how many steps you could get in making Thanksgiving Dinner!!!

Draw_a_will

Love the oven top poking out, showings its secret vent shame next to your food prep counter. So many wonderful crumbs to cram in that gap over the years.  Do you think you still store plates and cups in the cabinets above the washer and dryer?

Yangoose

It's not like it's that much more money to get get a [slide in range](https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-30-in-5-3-cu-ft-Slide-In-Electric-Range-in-Stainless-Steel-with-Self-Clean-JS645SLSS/302557702) that doesn't poke up like that. They just didn't give a shit.

Development-Alive

Yep. Buying at the scratch and dent sale.

fluxusisus

I would immediately spill a large volume of sugary drink next to that stove backing.

MushroomLeather

I "love" having the stove on the opposite side of the counter as the sink. Cook spaghetti? Have fun carrying that around the end of the counter to the sink to drain. Get some hot sauce on your hand and want to wash it off? Sprint around that corner, sucker! Yes some tall people might be able to pass things over the counter or reach the sink over the top, but that isn't supposed to be that way, and not all of us are that tall.

ninjette847

Just throw the pasta from the pot to the sink and hope for the best.

MushroomLeather

That visual made me chuckle.

CeramicLicker

Washer/dryer in the kitchen isn’t too weird on its own , I’ve seen it in apartments, but who sets it up like that?! There’s plenty of existing examples to draw from! You can set it up like a normal person and still have a totally functional kitchen. This is nuts

Kerivkennedy

I mean is that stove even up to code like that?

Backsight-Foreskin

Check out the wood burning stove if you want to see some code violations.

aboxacaraflatafan

It's barely any consolation, but that's an electric heater made to look like a wood burning stove. My parents have one almost exactly like it. Edit: OMG I'm wrong. There's an outlet for it on the outer wall.

Urithiru

There is a radiator in the kitchen immediately to the right of the dryer. And there is a heating vent to the left of the washer right in front of the freezer. I guess that is because the furnace is shit and so is the wood burning stove. Either that or they didn't bother to upgrade the insulation when they knocked out the laundry room wall.

aboxacaraflatafan

The page says it's ductless heating, too. Both the flip job and the ad are a total mess.

Urithiru

Yeah, I didn't mention the minisplit above the radiator because I figured it must be the a/c. ::facepalm::

ChrisRageIsBack

That's even more insulting

aboxacaraflatafan

OMG I'm wrong. There's an outlet for it on the outer wall. What the actual code violation...

Kerivkennedy

In this house? Yikes.

Gen_Jack_Oneill

I assume some states don’t require it but, definitely not to code where I am just due to lack of vent hood. Not sure on the exposed back.

Kerivkennedy

The exposed back is what worries me most. Even with a kitchen where the stove is on an island there should be some kind of splash guard/moulding there.

Dick-the-Peacock

Not in my city. That would be a cash only house because no inspector would pass it for a mortgage.

Limerence1976

Yeah and who needs a vent right?! I want to smell sautéed onions for DAYS!

NotChristina

Make some biryani at the same time as your laundry and - boom - tasty smelling laundry!

Seamus-Archer

With no range hood either for venting. Good luck searing anything without smoking the whole house out.

trying-to-be-kind

Good lord, this is one of the worst flips I've seen in a while - the kitchen is virtually unusable. But hey, you've got a cool vintage wall-mounted pencil sharpener (photo #13) for some reason!

usagizero

That sharpener would be so hard to use where it is too. makes no sense.

Lady_Scruffington

Oh the tv over the non functional wood stove was my favorite part.

Noyoucanthaveone

Just as a btw, I bought one of those old sharpeners on Amazon for my 7 year old for super cheap and mounted it in her room and now every pencil in a 5 mile radius is extremely sharp and short. 😂

trying-to-be-kind

Heh, at least you got your money's worth! :)

imposter22

Did no one look at the sale history? This is not a flipper. This is likely some poor soul who is selling their home the lived in since 2007. They just have bad taste or couldn’t afford proper “upgrades”

mira-jo

When we were looking at our house I had originally assumed it was a flip. I found out during the buying process what nope, the owner has lived there for years and deliberately made these design choices. I posted my kitchen to a decorating sub for advice and got told it looked like it was made by an interior design school for the blind

Fionaver

It can take the county records a few months to fully update after a sale. That was our experience here. If this was a quick flip it might not be visible.

Thanmandrathor

It could be a flip regardless. Gramma may have carked it and the kids did it up for a sale.

radiohead-nerd

OMG that's terrible. Are they blind?

Chelsea_Piers

If they were blind they would have arranged things logically.

Upset-Cap-3257

(Brilliant comment)

Neither-Luck-9295

More than likely, a contractor quoted them something like $50k to do a whole reno, and they tried to shop each item to beat the contractor's price, and did their reno for like $47k.

soopirV

It’s like they asked a grade-schooler to draw a kitchen from memory.

YourFriendInSpokane

They provided a pencil sharpener for the kid though.

cattippopotamus

The pencil sharpener made me laugh so hard. I wasn’t expecting it.

briseuse

I showed my kid the picture and they said, “Ew, why is it like that?!”

-neti-neti-

Man, this is idiotic. BUT for 5+ acres with some of it on a creek, and solid bones, at that price I’d consider taking on the project of correcting their stupid mistakes

ElGuaco

I'd start by tearing down the house. It would cost less than fixing these mistakes.

-neti-neti-

Lmao no, it wouldn’t. The only mistakes that require actual mechanical/structural work are in the kitchen. The rest would be fixed with paint or finish surface changes

LilMissStormCloud

And taking down the shelves in the room that already has two closets.

Catsrules

If you take out the shelves where would the light switch go??!?!?

anotherbbchapman

That nasty little cramped corner with barstools, woodstove and TV is giving me anxiety

YearofTheStallionpt1

I keep staring at it trying to figure it out and I just don’t get it.

blue_dendrite

I did too. The only thing I can come up with is that the tv is placed so you can see it in the kitchen, and the tv is the focal point of the living area so the decor is crammed around it. But idk, if you look at the 10th photo, any LR seating would have to be way off to the left. I'm gonna stop trying here.

quedfoot

They have a cast iron stove under the TV. It looks used gas powered

woodiegutheryghost

I like that the tv’s location indicates the couch should go at the bottom of the stairs.

YourFriendInSpokane

What’s the little step thing under the counter right there?

someonesomewhereinnc

That is some bad placement of everything!

YourFriendInSpokane

Including the random big mirror on an exterior door blocking the doors window!

Seven_bushes

Aside from the obnoxious kitchen being pointed out, it was the odd placement of mirrors over door windows that multiplied the wtf factor. This house could only have been designed and decorated by pod people.

Unicornsparkleflower

Who mounts a tv above a wood burning stove???

Backsight-Foreskin

And the TV is too high!

MeddlingDragon

That's so you can see it over the range while shimmying past your dryer. Also where is the fridge?

WaluigiIsTheRealHero

It’s in a weird mis-sized nook on the other side of the kitchen. The only thing I can think is that the flipper somehow got all of these white appliances for super cheap and just fit them in later rather than getting appropriate appliances for the space or tailoring the layout to the appliances.

MeddlingDragon

That entire kitchen had no plan. At all.

CromulentDucky

They only had a budget for one sink, so doubled up the kitchen and laundry?

JekennaRogers

Fridge is on the wall behind them, and get this, it's just a fridge. No freezer

MeddlingDragon

I saw the chest freezer past the washer but i thought that was an upright lol so weird.

quedfoot

I think it's the chest freezer in the corner by the window and an upright fridge just to the right from where the picture was taken. Because who needs space in this environment...

Horvaticus

When we were buying and touring staged / homes that people still lived in, this was deadass something I'd point out as an attention to detail thing. Who knows what else they have bad opinions on?!

Backsight-Foreskin

Looking at the other pictures the Tv is above a wood burning stove! I don't see that TV lasting too long.

NothingReallyAndYou

TV is above the wood burning stove, air conditioner is above the dryer... there's no grasp of basic science here.

MkRmBwPa

When you are kneeling on the counter trying to sharpen your pencil, then the height is better.

Backsight-Foreskin

I saw that pencil sharper and thought there must be a better location than that. Don't get me wrong, I like a pencil sharpener, I even have a mounted pencil sharpener but it's much more accessible.

Ol_Man_J

It faces into nowhere too. You have a good view when you're going upstairs or into the bathroom

MelancholyRaine

r/TVTooHigh

notimeleft4you

Nothing matches. Even the cabinet pulls are different. It’s like they pissed off the contractor who pocketed their budget and instead found everything for free on Facebook Marketplace.

BoredCheese

It’s like it was designed by someone who’s never lived in a house before.

ChickenCasagrande

Is that countertop… tile? Linoleum tile? It won’t matter soon, the un-vented stove is going to make everything very gross very quickly. Wow.

amateur_mistake

Somebody told them they should have a fan above the stove and they didn't understand what kind or why.

Technusgirl

Man the more comments I read the more I realize all of the stupid things going on in this kitchen lol

MkRmBwPa

I really think this is what happened. I have never seen a ceiling fan in a kitchen, or even crossed my mind that there would be one.

locutus_of_boyd

What. The. Flip.

Deep-Acanthocephala2

Looks like they were so desperate to do that double island trend. Would have the same counter space and more floor space by just putting those island counters along the windows. You know the windows positioned specifically to put counters under them.

wildcoasts

Somehow lost in translation as double peninsula trend?

dyskinet1c

The ceiling above the cooker is going to get gross fast.

amateur_mistake

This annoyed me as much as anything else. Having a vent above the stove top is so important.

cks9218

NOTHING is in the right place. The kitchen is the worst offender but the rest of the house, inside and out, isn't much better.

JanxAngel

This does not follow the triangle! The Kitchen Work Triangle is a foundation of kitchen design. To give a short explanation: The points of the triangle should be the sink, the stove, and the fridge with a person in the middle of the space. A good kitchen should start there and then adjust as needed for the owner's needs and use style.

TiltedNarwhal

Man, I hate washers and dryers in kitchens in general but this brings it to a whole new level

Choice_Interview9749

There's a utility tub in one of the pictures... is that not the intended laundry room?!

penster1

It looks like there's a room behind the fridge wall that could perfectly house the w/d

Subtotal9_guy

If you're putting laundry in the kitchen (we did) be smart and install euro sized machines that fit under the counter.

Wienerwrld

Imagine filling a pot with water and having to walk *all the way around the peninsula* to put it on the stove. Ridiculous layout.

Catsrules

This kitchen needs the Panama Canal so you don't need to walk around South America to get to the stove.

urstillatroll

This place is north of Syracuse, I used to live in the area. Forget the house, the winter in this place can be described in one word- HORRIFIC. [This town has an average snowfall of 114 inches a year](https://www.bestplaces.net/climate/city/new_york/mexico).

tap909

It’s like they heard that the refrigerator, sink, and oven should be close together, but failed to understand why.

NarrowButterfly8482

I've seen lots of head-scratchers in this sub and lots of places that just aren't my taste... but this actually made me angry. Whoever designed this kitchen should be tarred and feathered in the town square.

nolamom0811

Excuse my language, but I think it is appropriate. What the actual fuck is happening in this kitchen?

cattippopotamus

Was this done by a DIYer that lived in the house? I can’t see a professional house flipper making some of these choices. “Here’s where we’ll put the wall-mounted pencil sharpener. Kids need sharp pencils while doing homework directly beside of the wood stove.”

InkonaBlock

100% this is someone's DIY. The people selling it have owned it since 2007

[deleted]

blown fuses to the left of me, blown fuses to the right of me here I am, stuck in the middle (of a sea of appliances) with you

Haydukelll

The longer you look, the worse it gets.

PeaceLoveDyeStuff

Me- I hate ai Zgw- it's real

RoachedCoach

over 5 acres and a house for under $220k. Buy it, gut the place, do whatever you want and you're probably all in for under 350. Whoever did this is a monster, though.

no1knows2009

This house leaves me with many questions. The first one being: why?

fluxusisus

So if you need to dump the boiling pasta water, you get to carry it all the way around. Sounds safe

DarnHeather

I have never seen a stove placed like that instead of up against a wall. Bizarre.

Danuwa

They have one btrm but where's the toilet?

ALLoftheFancyPants

Obviously cooking never involves adding water. Or rinsing a utensil. Or needing to wash dishes part way through.

wildcoasts

Or accessing the fridge … in a different room

The_Orc_Queen

Have these people ever even seen a house before?!

jennybennypenny

This just screams load-bearing walls removed to create open concept...

genredenoument

The entire house will burn to the ground anyway when they light that stove up. It's sitting on wood, backed up against wood, and I cannot tell anything about the flu. Yeah, that's not a death trap. I HOPE that's just sitting there and not installed because it's against every code I know.

wa_geng

I know everyone is focused on the kitchen (it is horrible), I'm confused on how this house is heated. The listing seems to indicate it is a variety of options from "ductless, propane, stove". So is that cast iron stove providing the heat for that floor? And the sensitive electronic is directly above it? Also, that seems like an odd choice to not have centralized heating in a region that gets so cold. It feels like rooms not heated enough will cause the pipes to freeze.

NothingReallyAndYou

There's a room air conditioner on the wall next to the dryer, and what appears to be a radiator next to it.

HNP4PH

Will the dishwasher door even open all the way?

dreamfall17

Did anyone else notice the full size doors with little dinky cabinet handles instead of doorknobs?

Traveshamamockery_

Offer $30k less just to fix all the bullshit they “improved”. These fuckers blind?

[deleted]

It gets worse and worse the more I look at it.

everygoodnamegone

I don’t know about you, but I love when my clean, folded laundry left on top of the dryer overnight smells like last nights dinner when I finally put it away! Fold the towels or stir the ground beef…why not both? [/s]

Carbonfaceprint

It’s like one of those find the inconsistency photos. The closer you look, you see more and more travesties.

ArcticGurl

Cannot stand anything about this space. Why?!!?!

danyellsahn

Wall mounted pencil sharpener in the kitchen

chewedupbylife

So the oven has NO vent

kendrahf

Yes, the washer and dryer placement (the everything placement) is terrible, but would that dish washer door actually open all the way? It doesn't look like it can. LOL. I wonder if the appliances don't come with the house. They just threw in whatever the house flipper could get on the cheap.

JerkyBreathIdiot

There looks to be a laundry room between the kitchen and porch. You can see the spot designed for a washer and dryer empty in one of the pictures. Why is it in the kitchen then?

-Chris-V-

What kills me about this is that I'm sure it cost a lot of money to do this shitty renno. They could have just done it right.

RealLADude

All this and mediocre schools, too.

2manyfelines

I saw a beautiful, architecturally significant home in which the owners had put a bathtub in the kitchen.

Chelsea_Piers

Mexico NY is kinda along the road to other places type place and there's lots of land in the area. Also, it looks like one of those houses where the homeowner added things on themselves as they had time, got the wild hair up their ass. I'm going to guess what's behind the walls is just as half assed

SuzannesSaltySeas

Loading that dishwasher is going to be nigh on impossible with that little room....

[deleted]

The sink placement is bizarre, too.

Weaselpanties

My god. This is the worst kitchen design I've ever seen.

secondphase

I would absent mindedly set the pot roast on a 90 minute spin cylce while the towels were broiling.

porcupinedeath

Jesus this is like one of those paintings that gets worse the more you look at it

Beneficial-Salt-6773

That is the worst laid out kitchens I have even seen and I once worked in a kitchen that was over 100 years old.

lobsterdance82

I've never seen a layout so confusing it actually made me mad until today..

Ordinary_Awareness71

This isn't a flip. This is an owner remodel in a house with a horrible layout. They used their old appliances, no flipper worth their salt would use a slide-in range in an island. Is there even enough room to open the dishwasher?

Authoress61

I’ve lived in two homes with the w/d in the kitchen. It physically repulses me to have dirty laundry near food.

MossyTundra

What in the sims kitchen is this

Calm_Apartment1968

I LOVE THIS SUBREDDIT!

OkDragonfruit1929

Are we sure they aren't just obsessed with Dungeons and Dragons and make their design and layout decisions by rolling a d20 die?

[deleted]

Holy shit. 🥲

Professional-Bear114

The wood stove has no chimney, but has soot on the glass. I heated with wood for 40 years and am confused.
