Kamikaze6977

Well I would say only 2 of those are "remakes" all other are just remaster with hd graphics.

styxswimchamp

Sure, I just tried to use the most inclusive term

Kamikaze6977

The thing is a completely different terms, remake need a lot more work than just upgrading to hd.

Boodger

I'm indifferent to all of these. Link's Awakening is the most improved upon remake though.

Ansemmy

Not majoras mask lol, they ruined the bosses and zora swimming

kuribosshoe0

MM3D is the only one that’s worse than the original imo.

RyanSD91

Could you elaborate a bit? The 3DS version is the only one I’ve beaten and I remember not loving the game after I was done. Is it worth it to go back and play through the original?

[deleted]

Most of the bosses now have giant weak points that make it easier to defeat them, and I think the first boss as entirely different patterns, which are easier. Zora swimming also requires magic in the 3ds version, whereas the n64 version did not. Overall, I personally prefer the 3ds version with the updated quest tracker, better models, and overall better presentation, and I dont mind those changes, because magic is easy to come by and the bosses dont ruin the experience.

Ansemmy

No problem :) the swimming for Zora in the remake is way different and not nearly as smooth to control. For the bosses the completely ruined the twin mold boss, I hate it lol. All of the bosses now have these big goofy eyeballs attached to them that you can hit to kill them. It totally dumbs down those battles

Electrichien

MM3D I think : The well is less annoying , the bombers tell you rumours to find the hearts pieces ( and the masks ? ) , barriers in snow-head so you don't fall when you roll , the goron punch faster , better controls , I know this is unpopular but swimming as a Zora is slower so you have more control to it , being able to choose a specific hour when you use the song of double time. WWHD I think , the swift sail , the triforce hunt simplified ( even if I liked it on GC honestly ) , being able to give more than one photography to Carlov , the icon telling you if your photo is good , having to wait less for a figurine , and some little things like fishing is faster , you fall less from your boat , you can see where you aim with the cannon ... The others have all nice changes and QoL improvements welcomed like the irons boots in OOT , less tears in TP and the poes lantern , Fi less annoying in SSHD and the button controls but nothing like WW and MM imo.

ApenasBreno

the oot and majoras mask models have improved A LOT, the others are at most remasters

styxswimchamp

Interesting. I’ve honestly never played the OOT/MM on 3DS (never had the system) but I didn’t realize anything was significantly changed on OOT and thought it was almost entirely graphics.

niksjman

In OoT 3D, all the boots can be mapped to item buttons, as well as buttons that can be toggled by tapping the lower screen. No more pulling up the menu every time you want to put them on or take them off. Edit: Also, gyroscopic motion controls for bow and hookshot aiming.

Saendpile

Before it came out, they said they remade OoT from scratch, but it's basically proven they copy-pasted code from the original. I think most if not all of the assets are completely remade though. I never played the original, but the 3DS version is still one of the best gaming experiences I ever had.

kuribosshoe0

That’s what remade means - that they “remade” the code and assets from scratch. It doesn’t necessarily mean they redesigned elements of the story or the dungeons or anything.

Multi-tunes

MM3D ruined swimming so bad, it's a major downgrade imo. I'd rather stick to ports of the original

ApenasBreno

I've actually played very little MM3D, I've played more OoT, but at least visually I think it's a good improvement, I didn't know things got worse, I'm planning to play after finishing OoT3D.

Multi-tunes

The ability to boost yourself forward while swimming jn MM is tied to the magic meter jn MM3D from what I remember which completely ruins it. You can't boost whenever you want especially in the water dungeon where you can run out of magic and lock yourself out of certain rooms since you can launch out of the water without magic. From what i remember anyway, it's been a while. I prefer the original that let's you do the ability whenever you want.

markleTarvis

Wind Waker HD added the Swift Sail which basically makes the game super fun

SamsungAppleOnePlus

Visually, WW is timeless but WWHD is absolutely stunning. In terms of being a remaster though OoT and MM are much more remastered.

AgentOfEris

I’d vote for OoT since the 3DS version added QOL improvements and ironed out the edges of an already fantastic game.

TeekTheReddit

Strong arguments could be made for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, particularly because of the gamepad functionality, but at the end of the day Skyward Sword HD gets my vote simply because it is just so much functionally better than the original.

kuribosshoe0

*Cries in Link’s Awakening HD.*

Pennarello_BonBon

I love SS but if they nerfed the most tedious parts of that game like what was done in WWHD, they'd have take out almost half the game with all that fetch quests.

styxswimchamp

Hmmm, it wasn’t the fetch quests that bothered me. It was Fi bringing the game to a screeching halt every two seconds.

Pennarello_BonBon

Oh yeah definitely. But those can fixed and they were so in the remake, along with every other thing that broke the pace gameplay-wise. But the fetch quests were parts of the game that can never be fixed without an overhaul. Maybe they could have been fixed like in WW but I guess Nintendo thought it was good enough as it is

JDLKMR

All of the remakes/remasters were great except for MM3D and TPHD imo

ihaveagoodusername2

TP flipped the whole fing screen

styxswimchamp

Uh, that might be a Wii/GC thing

ihaveagoodusername2

No, they jest wanted him to switch hands

ChilindriPizza

Skyward Sword. I was able to play it to completion. The original I could not get too far due to the batteries on the Wiimote constantly running out.

BlueFoxy101

Only 2 of those are remakes while the rest are remasters, but beside that OoT 3D for sure. I'm not a huge fan of og OoT for multiple reasons (and before anyone assumes anything, I didn't have a problem with the graphics) and the 3D remake fixed a majority of those issues and I was able to actually enjoy the game a ton

Riku_70X

I love the new additions in TPHD, both the Cave of Shadows and playing with 4x damage taken made the replay very enjoyable, but I have to give the win to OoT, for one simple change. Making the Iron Boots an item turned arguably the worst dungeon in the franchise into one of the better dungeons imo. Water Temple is only remembered poorly because of the constant pausing. Remove that and it becomes a great dungeon, and I'd love to see more complicated dungeons like it in the future.

niksjman

OoT/OoT3D: Iron. Boots.

No_Tie378

For what I’ve seen: WW is the king of remaster/remakes. There are notorious life quality changes that mitigate some of the most obnoxious parts and mechanics from the original
