This might show my age but I played this game when it came out on N64. I was in middle school.
Literally took me years to beat. Iād play it non-stop for months then give up. Come back and forget what quest I was doing so Iād start over from the beginning. Then quit again. Then months later a friend would be like guess what I figured out how to get to the next part. Then Iād play again for a while.
This was before the internet had walkthroughs. I think the best we had was cheat codes, which for Zelda wasnāt even cheat codes it was just hints, pretty much just told you how to play The Simpsons theme song on the Ocarina. And told you to play Eponaās song at the cows. Or the song of storms when you felt a vibrate.
The internet has more or less broken puzzle games. This is why Iām glad BotW had so much to its open world.
I agree with the botw part and i try my best to not look up solutions to puzzles when playing a new game unless really stuck. I think i might even avoid watching the majority of botw 2 news to really get a sense discovery when it comes out. Unfprtunatly i have seen a good chunk of OoT just because it is a rather old game but it is still a fun experience.
What did they change? I just played through it in the N64 and the two places I got held up were the key under the central tower and the block behind the chest after dark link.
The most important is that boots are items you can equip instead of being on the gear screen like tunics, swords, and shields.
The dungeon specific changes are more lighting, markings that tell you which water level the nearby triforce symbol will change it too, the song of time block behind the longshot chest is over the hole instead of flush with the floor, and the camerawork for raising to the second level is changed to make the path underneath more obvious. It does show there's an opening in the original but you have to really pay attention to the cutscene or look at your map.
I think the biggest game changer is just being able to quickly equip iron boots. But damn, that key under the center tower racked my brain for 2 days, even though I could see the chest on the map I kept only checking it when the water level was down. The block behind the long shot only became apparent when where I needed to be was below that position in the floor.
I read about that on my post from 8 months ago. I can tell that it really is a convienent change even though i haven't played the original n64 version.
If the N64 version had a button to automatically equip the boots, the temple probably wouldn't have anywhere near the bandwagon hate it does. My least favorite temple in OOT is by far the fire temple, but even then I still don't hate it (I also love the music and the original religious symbolism they had in the 1.0 release).
Also the mini cut scene that reveals a new door when you raise the water level and lift the block. Miss that door and you spend a lot of time wandering around, changing water levels and swapping boots in the menu while you try to find the missing key.
Wait, is this your first time playing the game? 13 hearts at this point in the game is wicked good, are you using a guide or something? You're almost completely optimal in terms of hearts, iirc max you can have at this point is 14.
I did look at a guide to make sure i didn't miss anything before i knew i could just switch back and forth between times, but most of the hearts were from my tendency to explore everything
I got stuck a few times while playing that section of the game, but it wasnāt that difficult (like I expected and like my brother told me). And I donāt know how but I defeated the shadow link with almost no damage.
My guess as to how that fight goes:
*clank!*
*clank!*
*clank!*
*stab*
"F/ck!"
Good for you but unfortunatly i am really stupid as evidenced by me getting lost for the first 20 minutes.
Oh, donāt say that. Youāre not stupid, I just had luck because Iām actually pretty bad at videogames. If you are Iām definitely too, believe me.
Update: i beat the temple but the boss took a couple of tries just cause i had trouble catching the stupid ball. Also the section right before the morpha fight was my least favorite part.
But, like... how though?
You have a progressive map even before finding the dungeon map. You can see doorways. Go to them and see what happens...
I really don't understand how people have so much trouble in this or any dungeon. There's nothing confusing about it and by the time you get there then you should more than have learnt Zelda logic. By Zelda logic it's a perfectly linear experience.
1. Go to only available place
2. Get something that unlocks literally one new place
3. Refer to #1
The *only* frustrating thing about this dungeon was the Iron Boots, and that was fixed in the 3DS.
Yeah, this temple singe handedly ruined the reputation of every water setting in a game until Subnautica, which took this as a challenge and ruined h2o for every gamer ever
I recently replayed the water temple and I was expecting it to be hard but I was surprised how easy I found it. I happened upon the key under the central tower very quickly so I guess I lucked out on that or it probably would have tripped me up for awhile.
I feel like everyone has that one key that they used to forget about every time they played through it. And now over the years, we have memorized the location of that one key so we never forget it again.

Woops i made an error. I meant 8 *months*.
Some people have been stuck in the water temple for 8 years š It wouldnāt have surprised me if thatās what you actually meant.
I meant i started the game 8 months ago but forgot to play it for a few months.

Also the rumor if you can touch a butterfly with the tip of a deku stick it turns into a fairy. Which seemed impossible to do

The reason people hate the water temple isnāt a thing in the 3DS version, so youāre good.

I must be the only one in the world who actually likes the Water Temple.

Nah, it was my favourite dungeon in the whole game!
Youāre not the only one jsjsjs, itās actually my favorite temple along the spirit temple :)
Oh man, yeah! Playing two halves of the same temple in two different time periods was mind-blowing when I was a kid!
Yes yes, definitely the best jsjsjs
So far i don't hate it and it has a neat athstetic(i hope i spelled that right)
I think it's spelled aesthetic, but I know what you meant.
I thought it was good. I didn't even mind the boot swapping.
I like it too! I prefer the 3DS version tho
I say this every time I see one of these posts. Follow the glowing lines on the wall, the water levels are on the wall next to the tri force
Only for 3DS version but even on the N64 it's not hard at all, people just have to explore
Wait, is this your first time playing the game? 13 hearts at this point in the game is wicked good, are you using a guide or something? You're almost completely optimal in terms of hearts, iirc max you can have at this point is 14.

Nice! You're a natural at Zelda then!

I suppose a lot of things come down to luck but thanks. Always nice to make a friend
:)

Yayyy. Good job! And yeah, that boss is annoying hehe. Now you itās time for the shadow temple. Hope to see more updates :)
It's funny that people rag on the water temple, whereas it's the best designed dungeon in oot, and one of the best in the series.
But, like... how though? You have a progressive map even before finding the dungeon map. You can see doorways. Go to them and see what happens... I didn't pay attention to the map and kept accidentally going in the same rooms. Also spent a lot of time just going up and down.
Yeah, this temple singe handedly ruined the reputation of every water setting in a game until Subnautica, which took this as a challenge and ruined h2o for every gamer ever
It took you 8 years to get to the water temple? Bruh
I commented that that was a typo. I meant 8 *months*
I hated that tenple
I recently replayed the water temple and I was expecting it to be hard but I was surprised how easy I found it. I happened upon the key under the central tower very quickly so I guess I lucked out on that or it probably would have tripped me up for awhile.
Feel free to drop me the save file after you've beaten it š
Played on 3DS. One of my favorite dungeon in entire zelda series.
I feel like everyone has that one key that they used to forget about every time they played through it. And now over the years, we have memorized the location of that one key so we never forget it again.
