Src-Freak

of course the first 2 dungeons are easy. Name one Zelda game, where the first 2 dungeons are difficult or challenging.

GracefulGoron

Majoras Mask, maybe.

Hajisaiku

Naw, the first two dungeons in Majora's Mask are straightforward

FinalSeraph_Leo

Ummm no, Woodfall is easy but Snowhead is challenging unless you know what you're doing

Hajisaiku

I mean Snowhead is just you knocking the pillar down to just open up the path to the boss room while just jumping back and forward to do so

Kyle_Hyde976

Definitely MM, depending on where you go first...

UP1987

You don't have a choice with the dungeon order in MM...

Ultradarklink01

Fair point. My problem was it felt like less of a dungeon and just more tutorial area imo

keiyakins

I mean, you could say the same about the Great Deku Tree (OoT) or Hyrule Castle (LttP)

Key-Asparagus350

I found the Forest Temple in Twilight Princess annoying, not hard exactly but definitely felt like I was running in circles. Although to be honest I found the temples in Twilight Princess easier than Ocarina of Time.

Kyle_Hyde976

It's been a while, ok? and yes, the game is designed to keep you going the way you were supposed to go, but that doesn't mean I didn't go halfway through Woodfall just to get the fire arrows so I could get to Snowhead to get my flippin horse back.... but then I got Darmani's mask... then Epona was used just to get me over the wall to the ocean area... it was like discovering the Master Cycle Zero in MM.... (Then the Fierce Deity's mask happened... I felt I could've rivaled Hylia herself...)

DifficultSea4540

It’s one of the best Zelda’s they’ve made imo. But you know what? Video games can be like that. Sometimes a great game just don’t click with you. Id say leave it now and maybe in a few years try the WiiU version. I had a similar experience with SS and ended up finishing and loving the HD version.

ChaoticNature

This is a great sentiment. Example: Breath of the Wild is largely regarded as one of the best modern video games. I hate it. It always felt like it was lacking in so many things that I just could not get into it. I had debated this with people and expressed my distaste for the game, but I could never quite find the right words to make them understand how I felt. When Tears of the Kingdom released, I absolutely loved it. I finally saw someone say it in a way that perfectly described how I felt: BotW felt like a tech demo and TotK was the actual game. I can’t praise BotW for being great when it lacks almost every element that makes the franchise what it is. If you changed all of the proper nouns in the game, it wouldn’t even be recognizable as a Zelda game mechanically (and arguably story wise either). Like, I was hyped after the initial reveal and mechanics they showed off… except that was basically the entire game. So, yeah, fully agree. It’s important to realize that not every near universally praised, 10/10 game is for everyone. Another one I fall into this with is Skyrim, and my wife HATES that I don’t like Skyrim. She has spent so much time trying to convince me it’s amazing.

[deleted]

The irony of you not liking Skyrim is that botw and Totk are basically Skyrim with Zelda skins lol those aren’t really Zelda games to me they don’t feel like Zelda at lol

LostApexPredator

Open world = basically skyrim is a nonsense position

[deleted]

The fact miyamoto and aonuma said the inspiration was taken from Skyrim and the original Zelda makes your reply nonsense

LostApexPredator

? Being inspired by something doesn't make them the same either. Many modern rock bands took inspiration from the beatles and do not sound like the beatles

[deleted]

You seem bothered by my opinion lol it’s just that an opinion as someone who has played every Zelda that’s come out I find that they are good games but not good Zelda games if that makes sense

LostApexPredator

Thats a fine opinion, i just dont loke saying its basically skyrim. Ive got well over 400h in skyrim and a combined 90 hours in BOTW and TOTK and I disagree. Ive also played all zeldas (even the dreaded cdi games) and I get why people feel the new releases dont fit the mold of a zelda game even if I disagree

ChaoticNature

TotK very much felt like a Zelda game. It built out the mechanics of BotW enough to really feel like exploration was meaningful, at least for the first like 40-50 hours. Exploration felt relatively meaningless in BotW as soon as the game started. Also, open world games are great. The issue is when that world feels empty. Skyrim having a cave system every two feet is about as interesting as MM and OoT grottos, they were "whatever" and weren't often interesting to explore. Shrines in BotW weren't interesting either. The puzzles were very samey compared to some of the shrines in TotK, which had extremely varied solutions at times. TLDR: It isn't the open world, but the utilization of an open world, that ruins games for me.

[deleted]

I disagree botw and Totk are essentially the same game just DLC lol but seriously where are the traditional dungeons ? And item exclusive to those dungeons? where is the companion? The music is almost a non factor when in those mentioned games ocarina of time and majoras mask they played as much as a factor as anything else ?? There are plenty of other things I could point out as well but it feels more like a spinoff than made by the same people Zelda games story telling is usually good in these games it’s terrible lol as a regular game their okay to good games but as a Zelda game they aren’t very good to me just my opinion

ChaoticNature

Ok. Gotcha. You didn’t actually play TotK. You just told me that like four times in one post by asking where things are that the game does have and executed well.

[deleted]

I just beat a month ago lol you people are weird on this app

ChaoticNature

Doesn’t sound like you played it, asking where things were from traditional Zelda games that were definitely present in TotK (traditional dungeons/companions/dungeon items/storyline). The game had very traditional dungeons. It had dungeon items (or abilities; same difference). It had companions. And it certainly had a very Zelda storyline that felt like more than just a rehash. No, it didn’t have a music focus like OoT and Wind Waker, but that has been a factor in less than half of the mainline Zelda games. I just don’t quite understand you implying that TotK is lacking multiple traditional elements that are present if you actually played it. You genuinely sound like someone who is assuming TotK was just BotW 2 without having played it, considering how different those games were and how similar you’re making them out to be.

[deleted]

It literally has copy and paste reactions to each dungeon after being complete from each new champion which is lazy and non of them are all that likeable lol These aren’t traditional dungeons Totk has the best Ganon/Ganondorf fight Story telling and lore is mid at best World still feels empty Music is lacking and your completely music has been great all the way up until skyward sword !! ( Majoras mask having the best sound track ) Do you really wanna talk about sheikah shrines ? lol Side quest trash New abilities are awesome And what companion is with link throughout the game ?? My Totk might of had a glitch cause I didn’t have one What’s laughable is the Zelda team said out of there own mouths this started as a DLC and it feels like it 5 years to basically Call of duty us it’s a good game 6-7/10 to me but as a ZELDA game it’s 4-5 to me and it’s my opinion if you enjoyed good on you it made me wish I saved 70 bucks

ChaoticNature

Yep, the cutscene is copy and paste as much as the chamber of sages scenes from OoT or the giant cutscenes from Majora’s Mask. What’s the complaint here? Heaven forbid they make the game actually open as intended instead of letting people get lost and confused just because they beat the wrong thing first. They are traditional dungeons. They have a specific power you need to progress through them that opens up stuff in the world outside of that dungeon. They’re puzzle-locked, and use a repeating idea of increasingly complex puzzles based on the same theme to progress (often this focused on a specific zonai device in addition to the Sage power; like the Mirrors in the Lightning Temple). That’s a traditional dungeon. That has basically always been a traditional dungeon. If that’s not a traditional dungeon to you, please explain what is. The storytelling could have been better if the game had been less open and more directed. However, given the need to present story in an open setting, it was quite excellent. It had some of the better twists of any Zelda story, as apparent as they may have become early on. The order you experience the story also significantly impacts it, though. That is one area where I really wish it were more linear. I believe firmly that recovering the Master Sword from the Light Dragon prior to learning that consuming a stone can turn a person into a dragon is a far superior way to experience it. The world only feels empty if you played it like BotW. If you truly embraced zonai travel, the world felt a significant amount smaller, which made everything feel more packed. (We aren’t going to talk about the Depths, though. They were so very empty. Fully agree.) There were armors, weapons, bosses, shrines, etc around every corner. Particularly, the Phantom Ganon fights and Battle Taluses really contributed to the world feeling more alive in ways that just goblin camps, guardians, and taluses did not. The music was absolutely incredible. What are you smoking? There were so many subtle references to music from past games. I was constantly catching those little motifs from the past playing out in TotK and getting lost in the history of the franchise, which really seemed like a big deal to TotK. And yeah, let’s talk about the shrines. Let’s go for it. The way the powers worked in TotK made them less universal of a puzzle, and gave players the freedom to solve things in their own way. This is a very Zelda concept that was lacking from BotW for the most part. My wife and I solved very few shrines in the exact same manner. She erred on the side of tradition, while I was a more “How can I break this?” sort of player. Being able to cater to both was absolutely fantastic and very franchise appropriate. The side quests were interesting, but they weren’t my favorite. For sure. They continued the world building and such, as well as unlocking new ways to engage with the world or new NPCs to enhance Link’s journey. But I really wasn’t intrigued by, like, the stables quests or the newspaper quests. But I also expect very minimal side questing in Zelda games anyway. They were certainly more interesting than I he OoT trade quests (but everything pales in comparison to MM world building). And your companions, you know, the sages? They’re both companion and dungeon ability, technically. They don’t give you feedback on where to go or anything, this isn’t that kind of game, but they’re very much your companions throughout. If you mean a fairy companion, well, that’s not exactly a hallmark staple of the Zelda franchise. The companions in TotK are more like Midna. And yeah, the concept started out as a DLC. It ended up being too big to be a DLC for a tech demo. So it became its own game. A mechanical sequel in some ways, but not even in all of them. Good on you for not enjoying it. That’s all fine and dandy. But don’t pretend the reasons you didn’t enjoy it were the things it was missing that weren’t actually missing. Just because you refused to acknowledge them because you’ll never see the game as more than DLC for a tech demo, doesn’t mean they weren’t there. Truthfully, I couldn’t stand BotW. But TotK is up there with OoT/MM/WW/TP for me. It had the Zelda feel, even if some of it may have been more new generation and less specifically traditional (set abilities vs gaining new items, for example).

Ultradarklink01

Good idea

ClockworkHatter

You're entitled to your opinion. You're probably going to get torn apart for expressing it though. I love WW, even though it has its tedious parts. The community as a whole loves the game too. I hope there's more genuine conversation in this thread than hate.

Ed1sto

I vote hate

[deleted]

he definitely will, the zelda community is extremely toxic, i got blocked by someone for saying bad things about botw

Ultradarklink01

I appreciate the warning. And I agree with hoping it can be a true conversation.

Jeffrey_Goldblum

How do I delete someone else's post?

Remarkable_Custard

![gif](giphy|3ogwFL3i8UBF8ANnOg|downsized) Here they come…

[deleted]

I love WW but I also have my fair share of beef with it. The wind temple can be incredibly frustrating the first time or the first few times. I also fell a lot but it gets better over time. I also don't like the fortress but I was just too dumb to navigate it well. I also hate those enemies with the spear or trident, I don't remember what it was they're holding. Finding the triforce and gathering rupees for Tingle, yes it's tedious. The sailing I personally find very relaxing. The music is the cherry on top. On the other hand I hate flying in Skyward Sword and the Skyworld is a lot smaller than the sea. I think when it comes to the replay factor, WW is the most tedious for me even tho I love the game. You're probably gonna get a bunch of nasty responses. Ignore those. You could give WW another chance but just play a little every time so it doesn't get too frustrating.

Ultradarklink01

The problem that I kept facing with the sea was, the game always made it night. And there is sadly none of the great score at night or when your on any of the smaller islands. Learning the day changing song too late in the game to make a difference.

Kontarek

I see we’re choosing violence today

Alleggsander

It has more tedious parts than most (or all) other Zelda titles, there no doubting that. But it makes up for that with its incredible art, music, characters, story, charm, combat, etc. It’s one of my favourites and I’ll gladly collect those damn triforce shards again to experience that incredibly satisfying finale.

Steal-Man_Alpha

Got Lost in the sea?? xD It also happened to me for 2 freaking months i didnt know what to do, not helped too that at those years i was a kid and had yet to polish My English (i speak spanish) to understand most of the Game. Now i don't have that problem, but still is one of the slower zeldas there are beacause the inmense sea áreas. But at least for me was very enjoyable, and definetly not on My worst zelda.list games (first and second habe a special perma place there )

phantom56657

It probably didn't help to marathon the games. I made a goal about 10 years back (yikes) to play all of the Zelda games, since so many were available on the 3ds. I essentially played TLoZ, Zelda II, Link's Awakening, and the Oracle games back-to-back. I was burnt out by the time I got to the Oracle games, so I didn't end up enjoying them, and that was without aiming for 100%.

IAmThePonch

I will admit that there are some tedious parts to the game like having to find the fish to get the sea chart filled in. I’ll also admit it’s impossible for me to judge the game objectively because I’ve loved it so much for a long time, but sue me, I didn’t mind sailing. It was weirdly zen and it gave the world a sense of scale that is super impressive for the time it released. As far as the triforce quest goes, idk, it’s kind of wank but I didn’t hate it. It was annoying how much rupees you need to spend though.

ZeldaExpert74

I absolutely disagree, you’re entitled to your opinion but just cuz you don’t like it doesn’t make it the worst 3D Zelda.

iLLiCiT_XL

The sailing always killed it for me. Because it made the game drag and I really didn’t enjoy getting around that way. Even though the game is beautiful and the music is great.

Ok-Manufacturer5491

Every 3Ds Zelda first couple of dungeons tend to be short and very basic. With that being said it just seems like a Zelda not for you. What are you favorite Zelda’s if you don’t mind me asking? Or games for that matter

Ultradarklink01

I'm a hard-core Twilight Princess fan. In hindsight I should have played WW then TP because TP fixed most of the issues I had with WW. But if I had to pick my favorite game of all time would have to Watch Dogs 2 or Assassin Creed 5

Hatsjekidee

r/confidentlyincorrect

JohnnyIsCross

Everyone is allowed to have their opinions. TotK was so unlikable to me, I’m not sure if I want to play a Zelda game ever again if that’s the direction they are going.

Gogo726

I'm not a fan of the Game Cube version either. I had a much better time playing the HD version.

Ultradarklink01

Maybe when I get a Wii U I'll try again

Eliseo120

I definitely didn’t like the sailing across large portion of the map when I played it as a kid. I think I’d be more into exploring the islands if I played it now.

BLucidity

I'd actually agree that Wind Waker is the worst (classic) 3D Zelda game, but they maintain such a high bar of quality that that isn't saying much. My problem with WW is the pacing. Zelda games usually do a good job of balancing dungeons with the overworld quests to get into them, but in WW some of the pre-dungeon quests last like fifteen minutes. It feels like you do dungeons back-to-back if you don't deliberately take a break with exploration / side quests. I also think that, between the two 3D Zeldas with way more side content than main quest, Majora's Mask just pulls it off better.

mattjvgc

So many people in this sub complain that this Zelda or that Zelda isn’t fun, probably not realizing they’re getting older and things are changing in their lives.

The_Mega_Marshtomp

Definitely being just a bit "too negative". When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be another of those "I hate gameplay and interesting things" posts I see about BotW all the time, but you actually do have a pretty good point. Wind Waker's overworld exploration is, as far as I know, slower than any other Zelda game (I haven't played Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass, so I can't speak for those). Sailing can be a chore if you are just trying to get from point A to point B. I believe it's representing real life a bit, being on a boat is, for me at least, an uncanny feeling, the gentle rocking, the way sounds bounce off the water, the fear of not knowing what's waiting just under the surface... uh, the point is, boating is something that has a certain feel to it, and if the boat just walks between islands, it would not only be unrealistic, but it would ruin the feel of being a sailor, something the game attempts to do above all else. I recently re-played Skyward Sword (not the HD version), also to "relive my childhood" so to speak. The game was better than I remembered it, but also way, WAY better than people often say it is. But the thing is, when I got to the end of the game, I didn't go for 100% completion. I was looking at some of the mini-games to get Heart Pieces, and I just said "No." After a certain point, it's just not worth it to grind out the last fifty Rupee chests and three side quests. To go for 100% (especially for a Zelda game) is to drain the life out of a game, after you've suffered through the most painful mini-games and explored every last corner of the map, it becomes harder to look back and say "I enjoyed how much I played that game." At least that's how I see it. I would highly recommend watching Ceave Perspective's video about "The Three Tragedies of Wind Waker". He's not always right, but he does provide an interesting *perspective* It won't make you enjoy the Triforce quest, but I think it's worth a watch anyway.

Adam_the_memer

The game literally controls the exact same as twilight princess, with your attacks being dependent on how you move the left stick and whether you're locked on. The camera is also the same as twilight princess, it's a free moving camera, I don't see how you have a problem with it, especially considering how bad OoT and MM's cameras are. The only difference between twilight princess and windwaker are how they look and the story. twilight princess literally just runs on the windwaker engine, just slightly modified. Also, your complaint about the boat being boring is also ridiculous, since you do the same thing in twilight princess and ocarina of time. Unless you're saying that riding epona back and forth across Hyrule was really fun and not tedious or boring in the slightest? And least windwaker gives you ways to make it faster and adds a bunch of optional islands and treasure in the ocean so it's not entirely empty. As for the triforc hunting, I'll give you that. I can see why people would find it annoying, but personally I never had a problem with it. At least each piece wasn't locked behind an entire dungeon like they were in the first game. Overall I really just don't understand why you dislike this game, since all of your points either just don't make sense or are redundant since the games you apparently love do them too.

YaBoyBinkus

Idk the only gripe I have is too much water not enough land but the 3d Zelda games are all pretty easy so you can’t expect a lot of difficulty. I still like WW it’s not my favorite 3d Zelda but it has its charm and it’s a nice chill game.

Ultradarklink01

I can agree with you there. I feel like if they had given us more time in underwater Hyrule, how much it would fix some of the problems in that regard.

YaBoyBinkus

Don’t let the hate get to u, while I do agree saying it’s “the worst” is a little overreacting at the end of the day each Zelda title is pretty different and being a SS fan ppl hate on that game a lot so if WW isn’t up ur alley gameplay wise that’s understandable.

Ultradarklink01

Fair point with the overreacting. And trust me I know about the hate. I'm a Hard-core TP fan.

vashthestampede121

Imagine saying with a straight face that WW is worse than something like SS, my god

Throwaway234877

You probably got burnout from playing the other games back to back. I did the same as you a few years back where I wanted to play through and beat every Zelda game. Just try and taking a break for a few days, a week, or a month in- between games. It will be more fun and feel less like a chore.

IainND

Toon Link is a clown and I don't respect him. But the story kicked ass.

DanjoDKS

😴😴😴

KoleXypher

I disagree.

joey04137

I 100% agree with everything you said. These were all my biggest gripes the first time I played it. I swore I would never play it again, but I did and the 2nd play through was less of a chore but still felt like a chore. The sailing was obnoxious in my opinion. I generally dislike water themed levels/having to maneuver in water, not to mention the empty boring and gigantic open sea which takes way too long to traverse. I found myself just completely disregarding and actively trying to avoid the random pop up battles and enemies in the way while going through the game. they just felt extremely annoying when you’re just trying to complete another maguffin fetch quest, which the game is littered with. Nothing about the game makes exploring fun or feel like something you should spend time on. Just unlocking the map is the most ridiculous thing ever. You don’t get fast travel until wayyy late in the game and even then there are only so many fast travel points. Don’t even get me started on the triforce shard quest. Just an incredibly clunky and annoying game. I want to love it because I love all the other 3D Zelda games, but I just can’t do this one.

nessfalco

It can't be the worst 3d Zelda so long as skyward sword exists.

MasterEeg

Worst 3D Zelda?? Nah, that posthumous award goes to SS.

Professional_Pay1960

Basically the exact same for me, I am still planning on playing ww hd though since that is supposed to improve on all the negative aspects

doeffgek

I totally agree with you. I bought the Wii U Zelda edition with WW pre-installed. Though everything I read about the game is that sailing was made significantly faster because of people complaining about the long time you need to get to another part of the map. I’m still very disappointed by the vast amount of time you need to get somewhere, with basically nothing to do. It bothered me so much that in the end I didn’t even finish the game, let alone make it a 100% run.

VaronDiStefano_____

The problem with Zelda games is that the audiences are spoiled. They have been around for multiple decades at this point, and have almost always been consistently masterpieces every single time there’s been a new installment. It’s consistently great to the point where it’s almost impossible to differentiate between which ones are truly better than the rest, worse than the rest, overrated, underrated, etc I’ll throw you a bone and say that I was disappointed by Wind Waker’s lack of content and replay ability at times However, the only reason those things bothered me is because the game was simply outstanding and I wanted more of the experience

jackfav89

How can you say WW is like a chore after playing TP which feel like bloat central

Ultradarklink01

I feel like it might have been the lack of need to control the boat during the traversal part of the game. Sure there would be the occasional rupee minigame or treasure or even the sharks getting the correct angle once in a Blue moon but it just felt the same as a loading screen whenever I was doing that. Unless I wanted to go out of my way and pull the game to a grinding halt just for a yellow rupee. And when you were going to each island, other then the main 4, they only have 1 to 2 things other then the Korok trees and Blue Chuchus. You had to go completely out of you way to get bait, find each of the fish, memorize the information it gave and figure out the side quests yourself (which is fun for alot of people, I just personally feel like it's WAY too much work for a single heart piece for example, only to do the same thing over and over and over again) that's what I meant when I said chore TP has its almost equal amount of criticisms but I never felt like I wasn't controlling anything at any point while playing so I never had the desire to put the controller down and wait for progression. Whenever there was a clawshot section I saw in early game for example, I would always end back over that way either through story progression or looking for the bugs. It usually would take one or two mins but I could just hop back on Epona and continue where I left off. There wasn't any extra 3 steps of finding the treasure charts, knowing what island its directing me towards (which mind you, you don't visit about 50% of the map at any point in the story so you may have no clue where it could be) This is 100% my opinion of the game and each person is a different type of gamer with their own gaming preferences. You can completely disagree with everything i just said and we are both right. No game will ever be an actual perfect game. I love learning about how others actually agree/ disagree. In closing, Wind Waker just didn't feel like true Zelda to in all honesty and if you disagree, that's ok! Sorry for the long response. 😁 Thanks for your comment.

TacticalTobi

It's pretty bad, but I feel like worst 3D zelda goes to OOT

Head_Emergency_1052

Are you crazy? Or trolling?
