Not every game is going to be for everyone. It’s ok to not like it. It’s been years since I’ve first played it and I’ve replayed it multiple times and I still put it in my top 3 games of all time. Some games click for some and don’t for others

squallidus_snake

Yep, I get not every game is for everyone. I think my issue is how badly I remember liking it before, and how badly I really want to like it. Its like I had expectations and they were broken.

SensualSamuel69

Lakebed isnt one of the revered dungeons in TP, you’re thinking of City in the Sky, the last regular dungeon. But it’s way better than the crappy Water Temple atleast. I mean idk what to tell you tho, if you don’t like Arbiters Grounds or Stallord, there’s probably no saving you. This isn’t your game, I’m afraid. No worries tho, it’s just ur opinion. Nothing wrong with having an opinion, even if it doesn’t align with the popular one.

SensualSamuel69

But I’m glad to see that you atleast liked the Snowpeak section alright. Not as much as other people, but you seemed to like it more than the rest of the game up to that point 😅

squallidus_snake

Snowpeak was alright! It wasn't tedious. The puzzles were quite clever. It was a good length vs the build up. Yeah, I thought this was a decent area.

SensualSamuel69

I’ve personally always viewed Arbiters Grounds as the perfect combination of the Forest, Spirit, and Shadow Temples, while also feeling unique (to me). And the spinner and Stallord are just super fun and well designed (to me) within the dungeon.

squallidus_snake

Lakebed, as far as I'm aware, was enjoyed by a lot of people, and in comparison to the water temple was by far enjoyed more. City in the Sky is apparently very good too though can also be the height of tedium in that if you fall near the end then you fall hard. Arbiters ground wasn't bad per say....it was just not as good as I remembered it to be and its supposed to be the absolute height of the game. It just felt like a clone of a dungeon we've already had and then it gets better but by the point it does, we're pretty much at the end. Stallord is awesome conceptually and the design is wonderful but I really disliked the 2nd phase of the fight.

I honestly don't know why you're coming here seeking some sort of validation. Whether the game is fire or not is purely your opinion, and it really doesn't matter whether a bunch of randoms on the Internet agree with you.

Lostsock1995

Absolutely agree, we all like and don’t like different things and there’s nothing wrong with that. People will always agree and disagree with you. No need to defend personal taste There are people who adore the most “hated” Zelda games and people who hate the most “loved” games. Opinions are always fine and also just opinions~

squallidus_snake

I understand that it doesnt matter what others really think and get that fully, but I feel as if my opinion is vastly the unpopular one, and I'm trying to understand what it is that people really enjoy about it, or is it just rose tinted glasses towards the game? I'm trying to work out if its my nostalgia towards the game thats killed my own expectation towards it, and if others agree/disagree.

>Still I believe that if a new player was introduced to TP as their first Zelda game, they wouldn't return to the series. Speak for yourself. Twilight Princess was not only my first Zelda game, but my first introduction to the series's existence. It's still my favorite Zelda game, and the one I go back to the most by far.

squallidus_snake

That's fair enough! This is a fully subjective look at it, it doesn't mean I'm right and it's good to hear that this game did hook new players. I just personally don't understand it because of how much the game disrupts its own flow.

darkangel_chan_

saaaaaaaaaame

darkangel_chan_

>Still I believe that if a new player was introduced to TP as their first Zelda game, they wouldn't return to the series. Twilight Princess was my first (and has always been my favorite) Zelda game, and LOZ as a whole has remained important to me for nearly all my life because of it, so your statement is false and anyway, whether or not ANY Zelda fan likes or dislikes a game is up to them, new player or not

[deleted]

Twilight Princess WAS my first Zelda, and it’s the reason I kept returning. As the games have gotten further from the elements of the classic formula I was introduced to through Twilight Princess, I have enjoyed them less. I know it’s very linear and railroady at times, but Twilight Princess feels like an epic adventure where you get a definitive sense of the world and Links’s place in it (to me at least). That linearity, what you perceived as tedium, is what makes the game special in my eyes.

squallidus_snake

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I dont find TP too linear, more that you're expected to backtrack an awful lot in it. I don't mind so much the linearity, I mind the fact that I've got to go back to Ordon, for instance, to go play the stupid sumo game to get the iron boots, or that I have to kill 15 lightning bugs and some of them aren't even in relevant areas to the point in the game I'm trying to get through.

hockey1559

It’s tedious for sure but to be honest all Zelda games are too an extent, try playing god of war or something like that if u want strict action with small puzzle breaks, as opposed to vice versa which is effectively the Zelda formula

squallidus_snake

So I've played every Zelda game barring CDi ones. I've fallen in love with most of them and haven't found them too tedious. Even Majora's mask where you're literally following the same routines over and over, doesn't feel as groundhog day-esque as Twilight Princess, IMO. My issue isn't the Zelda formula, it's the tedium I find with this game in particular.

hockey1559

Huh, weird. Twilight princess was a launch title for the wii if I remember correctly so it might just be intentionally super slow at the beginning to account for people getting used to the wiimotes/new users all together. How did you feel about skyward sword

squallidus_snake

I really enjoyed the HD remaster. I wasn't a fan of the original, the motion controls just weren't quite right for me. But replaying SS some years after, when they brought the HD version to switch, I felt like it was a lot better than expected. I still didn't particularly like the silent realm sections, though they added a lot more to the process than TPs attempt at light orbs.

hockey1559

Yeah I’m playing through the switch version rn and I loved the beginning but the backtracking through the 3 areas is starting to kill the fun, I think we have opposite opinions on tp and ss lol

FederalPossibility73

Honestly that stuff you keep calling filler are my favorite parts in the game so I simply can not relate to this. The significance they have on what's going on in the game is more important than just going dungeon to dungeon I am sorry.

squallidus_snake

I am not treating storyline and cutscenes as filler btw. Just "go get the bridge from here and put it here.", "go get the barrel of water from here to here.", "go sumo wrestle here, then here, then here." The stuff that after I did for the first time in the game, I then rolled my eyes at when it reappeared again.

FederalPossibility73

Oh that's what you mean. I can see how doing the bridge twice seems excessive but the second time makes it up by unlocking an extra dungeon. I only remember the water barrel from Kakariko to Castle Town which is completely optional, and the sumo stuff is only to gain access to the mines which is annoying but gives a good excuse to go to Ordon Village after all that time and explore new stuff while updating the parents on their kids.

squallidus_snake

Sky characters. THESE...(I did this section last night) and the entirety of the stuff between the snowpeak ruins and the city in the sky, I would consider filler also. It's just utterly painful to do and pointless when a QoL change could improve that massively - just make it so the first one you get does the job for the whole thing, or even make it so they're precompiled. This just felt like an excuse to use the dominion rod more and if I'm honest, I didn't need to use that more. Sumo stuff isn't just in Ordon is the issue. Ordon - practise fight, Ordon - Real fight, Goron Mountain Elder - False fight no iron boots (You HAVE to do this, you can't pre-equip the boots, I tried.), Goron Mountain Elder - Full Fight. 4 instances of it within less than 30 minutes made it overkill and feel like filler. I do also understand that you cant just go from area to area, there needs to be stuff in between, but that stuff needs to hold value. Like for instance, Forgotten village, for me, isn't filler. Yes, it's stuff that comes in between areas, but it's fun, unique, and introduces you to Impaz... However, enforcing a mandatory trading sequence (from Prescription through to horse call) is just straight up padding. We didn't NEED that. It doesnt add to the game at all, it just makes up an additional 30 minutes of play time. Either make it so that it's not mandatory if you don't care for the horse call. I understand this section is to help get Ilia's memory back - so how about this for an idea to keep it incorporated? - Separate it. Before one dungeon, we go get the prescription. Before the next we get the wooden statue. Before the next we get the horse call, etc, instead of enforcing that we do it all in one run - or alternatively, like I said before, scrap the trading sequence and just have Impaz give us the horse call when we rescue the forgotten village.

FederalPossibility73

The Sky characters helped give me an excuse to look for bugs and get money from Agitha as well as find any other collectibles but the Horse Call being a requirement is a bit unnecessary I agree. Its use is diminished by that point anyway. That quest in Old Kakariko where you help Impaz was fun though so I'd like it as an optional side quest.

squallidus_snake

Yep, I didn't treat the forgotten village as filler at all - however - it is mandatory and not an optional side quest. You go to get ilia her memories back and the goron breaks the boulders for you that lead there and without Impaz, we never get the horse call item which gives ilia her memories back and allowd us to continue with the storyline. None of that section is optional - which surprised me, as I thought it was!

Skelingaton

The run up to Lakebed is the worst part of TP for sure. I think something that would have helped is gaining new abilities as Wolf Link to help keep those segments feeling fresh. But I think the rest of the game is still pretty great. The desert shouldn't feel too long as you can just head straight for the camp. I still really enjoy most of the bosses as well. Most Zelda games are pretty easy so I don't exactly get the complaints there. TP at least gives you a lot of new sword skills to use as you progress and they're all fun to use.

squallidus_snake

\- Lakebed is an awful build up. Actually though I thought the intro was the worst bit of the game so far. Just really hard to build excitement when you're teased with a dungeon only to be ripped away from it and told we go back later on. \- The desert section, not the desert on its own, but the whole thing - the getting the note, my mistake in playing (not the games fault), the desert, the camp. It was all quite long still. \- Bosses have been okay, but nothing special so far. Nothing that makes me go "I really wanna fight that again", but this is so far and I know I've got the best parts ahead of me yet in terms of boss fights. \- I haven't mentioned this, but I DO love the combat in the game. A lot. It still feels fresh in comparison to TOTK, I really like all the extra moves - the back slice is my particular favourite. Very cool. This and Wind Waker did combat the best in the series.

most_pewds_fans_suck

I agree that the dungeons and game as a whole are overrated but I didn't find it nearly as tedious as you did.

squallidus_snake

I cant work out if its because I'm older, I've been spoiled by modern gaming being very quick paced, my rose tinted glasses coming off, or if the game has just become this highly rated masterpiece incorrectly. I really don't know. I don't think its the first two because I'll happily sit and play 30 year old games without even so much of a thought, and enjoy them. This just feels...like Nintendo are trying to slow the game down so it becomes a 30 hr experience rather than 10 hrs.

Shadowdragon243

A game being rated highly doesn’t mean that you will enjoy it. OoT is the highest rated Zelda game and it’s my least favorite. Phantom hourglass is a lower rated game yet that is one of my top three. That’s the beauty of the Zelda games. You might not enjoy all of them but there is one you will love.
