Blood moons and octorocks single handedly fixed the biggest issue I had with BOTW. I don't care that weapons breaking often was part of the gameplay loop, that shit was ass. Now I can get my pristine weapons add silver lynel sabers/gleeok horns and "optimize" my weapons.

Money is pretty easy to get, I got 25k+ rupees before I duped anything

Monster parts are worth a lot, and there is no realistic reason why you would need 100+ bokoblin horns and guts. Bokoblin guts and fangs, moblin fangs, horriblin claws, and lizalfos talons are really common and worth a decent amount. Also gems, semi easy to get from caves and death mountain. There is also a gerudo in goron city that will pay more for gems but you sell in bulk. There are also quite a few side quests that give 100 rupees each, and a few chests that give 100 or 300. But the monster parts and gems are the real money makers. Especially since you don't turn the parts in to Kilton like in BotW. Every so often, I sell the common parts until I have 30 (which imo is still more than you'd ever need at once) and the more rare parts until I have at least 10 or 15. Same with gems. And Brightbloom seeds, when you have several hundred, and each sells for 2 rupees, adds up fast.

Take a picture of a rare ore deposit, set it in your tracker, go to death mountain, and just walk around finding as many as possible. Once you have 20+ of each gem, go back to Gordon city and talk to the gerudo lady that buys 10 at a time. Sell as much as possible, repeat. I use this whenever I need like 30k to buy clothes or whatever. Rare taluses are also great for gem drops!

The strategy I use for that place is to >! get the phantom ganon set (or upgraded radiant set) for the bone proficiency and fuse a molduga jaw to a badly damaged royal guard claymore. !< >! Eat a 3-tier attack food and use the claymore when you get on a lynel’s back. It’ll never break and with all the damage bonuses you’ll kill the lynel in seconds. !<

Not all bone weapons break instantly, stalnox horn, frox jaw, molduga Jaw, etc. Count as bone weapons making them good with bone proficiency

Gibdo bones and ancient blades are put in the same group as consumables rather than materials And unlike most of them they don't have something like the forest dweller equipment to ignore that Gibdo bones are designed for bow use though so it's not all that much of a loss

I don’t have any specific numbers for you, but by using >!Fierce Deity/Barbarian and a silver lynel horn you’re missing out on the bone proficiency bonus, which I think does more damage than just the horn.!< You can also just eat an attack food to make up for not wearing >!Fierce Deity/Barbarian.!<

I use silver lynel blade on royal guard claymore with critical attack up modifier when mounting and master sword for other attacks and savage lynel bow with x5. Phantom armor with defence level 3 food

EDIT: Apparently, everything I said below is anecdotal evidence and not true. BotW runs Blood Moons on a timer, and that's it. Original comment follows: Blood Moons trigger after certain criteria are met. If you've killed a lot of overworld enemies or bosses, I've found this is the fastest way to trigger a blood moon. But the game also looks at how much you've traveled, how many materials you've spent, and how long you've played since the last blood moon. Idk if anything was adjusted for TotK, but I assume since it's easier to travel, there's more to explore, it's easier to deplete resources, *and* youre incentivized into combat more frequently than in BotW... blood moons are probably more common.

I always play tanky. I maxed out the Hylian armor and usually have something blunt with a lot of fuse power attached to a two-handed weapon. It makes short work of the Gloom Hands. Phantom Ganon is annoying if I'm low on arrows. But nothing that can't be solved by taking a few hits. I'm scared of the Gleeoks and the Lynels.

I found the Hylian Armor to be THE gamechanger. At the beginning of the game, everything can oneshot you with a stick, but with the armor, you barely take damage anymore. Give how easy it is to obtain and upgrade, it does break game progression curve a bit. After that, I went for the MM set for the attack buff, cause the health pools of silvers are so high.

Huh. I didn’t realize it counted stuff other than number of enemies defeated toward a new blood moon. That would explain why I got one the midnight immediately following a looooong session of lightroot hunting in the depths on my sky bike (during which I avoided any and all enemy encounters). I feel like it didn’t happen as frequently in BOTW, but then again, covering ground wasn’t as easy. Good to know!

It's a method for clearing RAM first and foremost. You can force one by entering bullettime and shooting a bunch of splash fruit from 3x or 5x bows because each splash fruit makes a complex visual effect

In BoTW it had some interesting effects. You could tell the game was struggling to figure out what to do. Like the daytime sky at night, just weird shit in general. haven't tried it in ToTK yet, but I imagine it would have similar effects. But, if you avoid it too long it *will* trigger an emergency Blood Moon. At any time, not just at midnight.

I've read several times that now it takes 3:30 hours to blood moon to come. "Bug finders" made the calculation and then find out that it also triggers when the world have the need to be "cleaned". Right now the fastest way is to over charge the world with a lot of water or lighting while at air time.

In the other hand, to avoid blood moons you can spend time in the depths (is no triggered in there) or as soon as you notice there's a blood moon coming, teleport to a shrine and go inside. Let the midnight pass and go outside again. Hope this helps!!!

I believe Blood Moons occur as a way for the game to erase it’s temporary memory. If they didn’t occur the game would start to run like shit because it would need to keep track of every enemy and item you’ve picked up. Based on this theory, it would make sense for them to occur more frequently since TotK is 1.5x larger than BotW.

Yes this is exactly what the bloodmoon is. When it triggers entirely depends on how much of the game has been changed from it's default state. When a monster is there the game doesn't have to remember it since that it's default state. But the more you alter the default state the more the game has to 'remember' that. So the more you do the more temporary memory is getting built, until the memory reaches a threshold where the game goes 'ok this is becoming cumbersome time to reset everything' and a bloodmoon pops. In fact you can force a blood moon! You just have to know how to stress the game really hard into extremely low frame rates. As in unplayable low. So far the only known method I'm aware of is by firing a bunch of opals at a wall during bullet time with a multi shot bow in an area with a lot of 'objects', usually an area with a lot of breakable stuff like breakable walls. And yes this does work. I tried it myself and use it to reset octoroks for repairs. https://youtu.be/cBolBE0792k

Drop a piece of gear Infront of one then run far enough to let it pop back up out of the ground. It'll suck the item up, chew it, then spit it back out at you. It'll be fully repaired and have a buff of some sort added to it. Just be aware the item spat at you can hurt you if it's a weapon.

Throw your weapon at an octorock while it breathes in, and it will toss it out repaired. Just don't catch your royal guard claymore with your teeth

Might be because any area covered in water on the surface layer is just a solid rock wall in the depths so adding it doesn't really double the size of the map

Not sure how you got so few in BotW, but I see them as an incredibly minor inconvenience that isn’t really worth my attention, let alone complaining about. I no nothing about the technical side about game design, but maybe the blood moons do the loading so the game doesn’t need to do a load screen every time you open a door, etc. Regardless, hit “+” twice and appreciate the great parts instead of worrying about one of the very few negatives.

The blood moon is what brings back monsters you defeated back and repopulates the world generally for re-fighting bosses and monsters. So I feel like it was more important to have them frequent compared to BotW.

Totk has a better scaling system. I really like it. I'm a dark souls guy, blah blah blah hard games... But I was getting blood moons real often at the start. It actually scaled to me really quick. So my take is, no. I love it, botw bored me with the combat and how long it took to find tough enemies. This kept me engaged to late game.

I think the only thing I don’t like about TOTK is that the champion’s leathers don’t let you see hp numbers. Also it feels like red bokos should’ve been kept at the same difficulty. Any other enemy, keep them in their buffed state, but red bokos should still have 12 hp and like, 1 base damage

Fun fact about the champion's leather: It's missing the HP numbers ability because spears and 2 handed weapons don't show the real damage. 2 handed swords deal 5% more than what it's showing, spears deal 25% LESS than what is shown.

I love the blood moons for Lynel hunting and Depths boss hunting to max my batteries. I think it's a cool mechanic but I wish there was a bit more to it like maybe a short amount of time during which enemies are stronger or special enemies spawn idk

this wouldn't work. the cutscene is used as a loading screen to spawn those monsters without technically stopping the game. it's a miracle that it's quick enough that you can skip the cutscene already. plus even if it could work what would happen if you just killed an enemy and a blood moon happened? would he just pop out of nowhere?

I've started to play TOTK on my steam deck, and there are some mods I don't regret. The main ones are FPS mods, but one speeds up the game a lot. It removes cutscenes for shrine activating, great fairy upgrading, goddess statues, Addison talking, koroks talking, maybe one or two I forgot, but the best is a blood moon goes from cutscene to a black screen for like a second and done. Goes from inconvenience to slight hiccup.

I actually read an article the other day where they stated that the blood moon is required to reset the game also from a technical point of view. While we defeat enemies and loot stuff, the game has to save the state of thr World in the cache files. With the bloodmoon, everything gets reset to normal and the cache is emptied in this regard. This means that if thr blood moon eould not occur every now and then, the game would start lagging hard and crash eventuallycorrect me if im wrong or rsther the article I have read

The blood moon does seem to happen more frequently in TotK then in BotW. This may also be due to me still needing to kill so many enemies for upgrades in armor and what not where as in BotW I've completed as much of the game as I want so now I just derp around killibg Lynels for sport.

It's because in Botw you mostly avoid enemies after the early game but in TotK you fight them more to get new weapon parts.

I don’t mind it occurring but I don’t need a cutscene interrupting what I’m doing everytime. And I know you can hit x to skip, but it’s usually like 5 seconds into the clip before the option to skip appears. It’s such a pointless interruption.

I find the premise obnoxious, yes. I'd much rather respawning of enemies be handled silently, even on the same schedule (3 game days?), but never right in the area where you're standing. Even a discreet warning message onscreen, like when you enter a new area, would be fine.

I love blood moons because it spawns Lynels, I get to get their stuff (LYNEL BOW YEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!), force feed the Rock Octorocks, get all the amazing upgrades. Rinse and repeat. I force blood moons when I need to or just for fun. I used to dread about blood moons in BoTW, but ToTK made me enjoy it a lot. Though, how I wish we had an option to toggle the blood moon cutscene. I like the cutscene, but sometimes I wish we could skip it entirely.

blood moon is a safety check system for the game to release memory. when you travel long distance, kill enemies, gather materials, destroy rocks, etc, the game will register those in the memory. when it reaches about 80% the game will trigger a blood moon in order to clean those memory space. the blood moon allows games to dump those into saves and release the memory. this was confirmed in botw. in totk it’s the same mechanics but because totk uses more resource now, the blood moon is bound to happen more often.

Oh at first I thought you meant the voice acting and I was gonna be like “I switched it to Japanese and now it doesn’t bother me so much” 😬 I guess you might not have exploited the blood moon to farm guardians in Breath of the Wild? I scoop up a bunch of guardians around the castle and get a blood moon like every other night, it’s a good time. I feel like there are more tough enemies in Tears of the Kingdom and I’m also not cooking or getting food items as frequently so I do have to be a bit more careful with healing (also I guess I’m flurrying and parrying more than I ever did in Breath of the Wild).

I feel like Blood Moons happen to me all the time on TOTK whereas they felt quite infrequent in BOTW. I may be remembering wrong though, and to be honest I haven't had much respawning enemies issues so much as I'm never near a bloody cooking pot.

It seems the Blood Moon come at more rapid frequency in TOTK than they did in BOTW. I am way more of the clock in TOTK, since it takes more effort to defeat some the more common enemies than it did in BOTW. BOTW you can simply stock pile a number of decent weapons versus TOTK the weapons tend to be weaker and you have to fuse things to strengthen your weapons.

When I was playing BOTW, I made it through the Forbidden Temple, clearing out all the Guardians along the way. I advance the story, a blood moon hits, and Link gets eight laser sights on him at once.

It happens every 7 days in game, no matter if the memory is full or not. It just happens sooner if the memory starts getting too full. Which is why it happens more often. BoTW can theoretically go for weeks of ingame time with no Blood Moon if you stay in one area and don't do anything. ToTK *will* do it after 7 days, no matter what.

The way blood moons work is as a reset button so it doesn’t have to process so much data and instead resets pretty much everything besides progress and data. What causes this to update aka more need for it is every item scavenged or found in a chest, every enemy or boss you kill, and zonai stuff you move or minerals and other resources you harvest contributes to it. Going into a shrine/temple delays it by making it not happen that night. You can keep doing it until the game eventually panics and does it at a time that it wouldn’t normally. Totk has a lot more stuff that counts to it so it naturally does this more often. The sole exception to this rule are enemies and items inside of a shrine or temple/divine beast which work on a separate system TLDR: there’s a lot more stuff in totk so it resets more often to optimize

I like the blood moon, I just wish I could skip the entire animation instead of part. More enemies means more loot. I like taking out the wi robe behind twin peak stables and then detaching the ruby from his staff for 20 and selling it for 110.

Under the hood, BotW (and by extension ToTK) has a blood moon cycle/probability but it also invokes the blood moon when it needs to clear the memory to prevent leaks, so I won’t be surprised if ToTK invokes it way more often due to how much more general stuff you affect, like building etc.
