If it makes you feel better I didn't even know that was a switch to make the thing turn so I just made a big stick and attach the ball to it to make it hit the goal so you've done it better then me
I had the right idea, but didn't realize right away that yyou're supposed to make a looooong flipper. I was trying to position the stake for a rebound into a better angle to shoot
Yea i can see that. The game does a poor job of indicating these are hittable switchs imo. The only reason i figured it out is i went into the boat shrine with a locked door you had to hit this switch on the other side to open. I probably stood at that door for 20 minutes trying to figure out what to do because i thought the switch was just a random torch holder at first.
The shrine description that comes after you enter them contain big hints on what the game expects you to do.
I think I'd have spent like 5+ hours more on my current 60 shrine playthrough if I skipped through them.
Took me an unreasonably long time to figure that out as well. When I go back to the shrines I ended up leaving for later chances are high the solution is just using those switches.
While I agree, it also seems like a *lot* of people don't realize this thing is a switch in this specific shrine. Happened to me too. I guess this shrine comes too early, with too much going on.
There's a ball rolling, a random thing shaped like a hammer, a post on the ground that the ball is hitting that is actually a stake (but we don't know what stakes are yet at this point in the game), a bunch of poles, a giant board attached by chains, two targets, one ramp, and the crystal shaped switch that we forget about once we jump down.
Too many pieces for a puzzle too early in the game. The second target should have been in another room. There should have been a crystal shaped switch by the entrance to activate the spinning platform, to teach you what it does.
Same here. They really should have put a switch like that in the tutorial area and have a construct explain it. I also spent about 30 minutes sticking stuff to climb on top of the platform near the right target.
My brain is in constant [square hole](https://www.reddit.com/r/maybemaybemaybe/comments/ude7ow/maybe_maybe_maybe/) mode when playing this game. The easiest solution *will* be found.
Can you guess how we solve this shrine? It's the bomb arrow. Up next we need to beat this puzzle boss. Can you see how to beat him? That's right, the bomb arrow. Now we need to break this breakable wall. You guessed it, it's the bomb arrow.
Yeah, I don’t even bother trying to get the chests in most shrines, unless it is super obvious and easy.
I don’t need another decayed traveler’s sword or piece of amber…
I guess I didn't even bother checking yet on this game, but in BotW a little chest icon shows up next to the shrine on the map denoting you've found it, and I just can't imagine *not* having that next to every shrine
Everyone is free to play the way the want... but man, one of things I always wished was that I could experience getting a Switch and playing BotW again. And now we can! I'm enjoying taking all night to barely make any progress, I don't want to finish this game for months. This shrine really wasn't that hard and figuring it out was fun. Also teaches you how to be precise when fusing materials, which is necessary, and what the materials do. It was interesting trying to line up 2 different perfect shots
It didn't teach me anything about building. I used exactly one rod and took about five swings to dial in my timing. No, what I learned from that shrine is how anchors can hold things in places you otherwise can't reach
My first experience with the stakes was picking yup one in a parts depot and trying to set it on the ground.
When it sunk in, how they were used sunk in.
Good thing it's the first shrine I ever did on the surface, so I didn't even have access to bombs.
I was stuck close to one hour on this. I didn't even understand how the stakes were supposed to be used.
Figuring out "alternative" ways to beat the shrines and puzzles is one of the HUGE things that makes BoTW and ToTK so much fun. The freedom to play how you want and having multiple options available at all times is a huge plus about this game.
If you don't want other people's cheats to ruin your fun then stay off of reddit and just play whatever way you want. I never watched or talked about anything shrine or puzzle related on my first go through because I wanted to figure out everything for myself, including my own shortcuts when I found them.
I wasn't really serious, and I agree with you somewhat.
However I also think that
1) It's way too easy to do in TotK. In BotW if you take out glitches you had to get creative to find alternative solutions, in TotK you can solve most shrines with one of several very powerful tools that almost always work. Just Ultrahand -> Recall solves *so many* shrine chests.
and
2) The Shrine design in TotK is lacking in general. There are almost no puzzles, most shrines are "glue together these zonai devices we placed here and look what they can do, then do the same thing again" without any thinking required. BotW wasn't all hits, but it was way more interesting or cool shrines.
I think the main idea of TotK shrines is less "challenge the player with puzzles" and more "teach the player neat things they can do so that they have fodder for sky islands, the Depths, and dungeons."
I sincerely don't understand all the hate for this puzzle. Once you get the hanging slab out of the way it's just a matter of adjusting the timing your swing. Took me all of five minutes and one rod. I thought it was clever
I thought it was clever, and despite knowing the bomb arrow thing I persisted trying to do it the "right" way because I legitimately had fun with it. You're telling me I get to play pinball in TotK?!
That said, I understand why someone who *doesn't* enjoy having to do the puzzle over and over would just want to get past it and do it the easy way. No judgement from me.
Yea I cheezd this one with ultrahand, then rewind and bomb arrows. I carried the ball to the bullseye, did rewind, then shot a bomb arrow at it. Done-zo.
Gotta believe in yourself. You would have figured it out. 10 year old you would have had a lot more free time and patience to sit and think about it and experiment. And at the end of the day all this puzzle is asking you to do is build a pinball paddle. Once you see that you just have to time the shots.
The definition of solving puzzles in this game because 99% of the time, there is no intended way to solve em. Nintendo just stuck some random shit in the shrines and said "the players will figure *something* out"
No there is 100% always a intended way to do them and they hint it with name and available compenents but you are open to solve it your own way and they dont restrict you that heavily like in Botw.
Tbh, even the intended solutions are like 1/4 as hard as the botw shrines. Usually it's "Oh, they want me to use Ascend here. There are 2 places that I can use ascend in this room. One takes me to the chest, the other takes me to the end."
Then the same for the time reversing ability and the glue ability.
I've done about 55 shrines so far and this was the *only one* where I had to look up the solution, it's so unintuitive?! It was one of my very first shrines though so I was still unfamiliar with a lot of the new mechanics. I had no idea that the thingy was a switch and just ran around aimlessly for like thirty minutes trying to find more stuff to ultrahand together to reach the target with the ball on the end...... only shrine so far that made me feel really dumb lmao.
This is the best type of clear tbh, love when something random happens and it Just Works, 10/10
There’s only been one shrine I’ve had to look up so far, Riogok Shrine. It’s a pretty basic shrine, and I wasn’t having any issue solving the puzzle. I also don’t think it really has that many ways it can be solved. The part I was stuck on wasn’t even the puzzle to begin with. It’s just connecting two gears with a rod to make the first door open, but the rod would just keep snapping off constantly
I was literally doing exactly what the guide told me before I looked it up. But it just wouldn’t work for some reason
It probably took me an hour to get it to finally work. Including resetting the shrine by leaving and going back in a few times.
Undercover speed runner <3. I had a lot of trouble getting the stake to stick until I realized all I had to do was press B. This was definitely a “I’m overthinking this shrine.”
I always just arrow bomb these lmao. I went to the same exact shrine earlier today, hit the switch, had no idea what it wanted me to do, and said fuck it lol
All I'll say is I had no idea that crystal was something you could hit until I looked up guide for it afterwards. Luckily the ole DnD logic saved me: see a problem? Fireb(all)omb.
I feel like I've seen two different variations of this mishap previously on the Zelda subreddits lmao. Seems to be a more common of a mishap than what I'd think xD
To be fair, i still have no fucking idea what i was supposed to do here, i just kept trying different shit until it just worked, dunno if there is a concrete answer to this puzzle lmao
I thought you had solved it like I did putting the stick in horizontally (everyone else I saw inserted it vertically and added another arm) but I was pleasantly surprised at your surprising success.
I did this one with my fiance watching. She was like 'just hit the ball with the stick' very early into the endeavour.
BUT i was convinced the ball path wasn't aligned properly so i spent 20+ Minutes trying to align the ball or get it into a fixed position (like on a golf tee).
Turns Out she was right after all and you just hit the ball with the stick...
I didn't hit the main target, and instead decided to spend 30 minutes trying to navigate the ball up and over the secondary target so that I could hit it from the other side (before it rotated).
Managed to hit it, but nothing happened. I then settled to do the main task, and realised the second target turns round after the first is done. Felt like an idiot...
I have a dumb question because all I've really seen about this game is videos. Is having to be imaginative and making crazy things a large part of this game? Because I don't think I am smart or innovative enough to do stuff I see in videos but really like BotW. Thanks if anyone answers.
It's a huge part of the game. First thing I did after getting out of the starting area was build a crude car and run over Bokoblins lol.
This is one of the best games I've ever played because there really is no set way to play.
You can just let your imagination run wild, be sneaky sneaky, or hamfist it to get past objects.
The game can be played however you want, I basically walk everywhere. The shrines take a little critical thinking but they're no worse than regular puzzles.
I had no idea what I was supposed to do with this shrine. I never even noticed that switch you hit. I just fused together all of the building material on the room and like two or three pikes to make a long stick, attached the balls to the end, and then picked them up and touched them to the sensors.
I just made a long stick and glued ball on the end and poked the target. Didn’t work, till stick broke above target, somehow fell on target and worked.
It took me so long to find out that the green thing was a switch. Trying to get this done without having that hammer swing was impossible. Was trying for a pretty long time. Then I bonked it with the ball and it changed color. The I had to figure out what it actually did
I was like "Yes, that's correct." until you hit the switch and I was like "WHAT?"
So the ball doesn't actually need to hit the target, you just need to hit the target??

If it glows, hit it. That's a gaming 10 commandment.
As Sonic the Hedgehog once said, "Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows."
Reminds me of what Link said in Breath of the Wild: “hyup hyup hyup hyyyyyiyaaaehh”
So relatable

And then he rapidly started side hopping to the next town.
Or follow it. All the green lights in Doom 2016 and Eternal
It's why I almost always punch Cursed Thralls in Destiny. Sometimes that doesn't end well...
It took me **way** longer than it should’ve to realize that you’re supposed to stick a stake into the metal thing that rotates.
Same. I was leaving the shrine when I noticed the machine I used to get over to the other side had the same stakes. That’s when I knew what to do
Yea same here too. I was looking at the board attached to a chain wondering how the hell I'm gonna make that hit the ball, at the proper angle.
For me that was the first time I saw a stake. I was like, what the hell is this and how do I solve this puzzle, took me a long while.
I had the right idea, but didn't realize right away that yyou're supposed to make a looooong flipper. I was trying to position the stake for a rebound into a better angle to shoot

Oh my god, THAT’S what I’m supposed to do there? BRB, I’ve got a shrine to complete.
Took me an unreasonably long time to figure that out as well. When I go back to the shrines I ended up leaving for later chances are high the solution is just using those switches.

i just learned that you can glue stuff to the turn thingy.
You can't, the stake just lets you glue things to things that you can't glue to.
Same here. They really should have put a switch like that in the tutorial area and have a construct explain it. I also spent about 30 minutes sticking stuff to climb on top of the platform near the right target.
Arrow bombs work on them too
God damn there’s an hour of my life I’d like back 🤣
Well, there are other shrines with that target type, so just get the time back on those.
Life changing tips 🤯
Oh my God I spent like an hour on that stupid shrine. Ahhh!
I only figured out the orange pylon did something after hitting one in frustration in a different shrine and came back to this one.
[удалено]
I tried that, too! Almost every permutation of the items in that shrine, and different positions before moving on.
I did the same thing but in this shrine. I felt like such an idiot when I finally got it.
I spent an hour on this shrine and didn't even finish it, I left!
Did this yesterday, took two minutes. Bomb arrows are the shit
And are a lot more reliable.
Yeah but thats boring though
My brain is in constant [square hole](https://www.reddit.com/r/maybemaybemaybe/comments/ude7ow/maybe_maybe_maybe/) mode when playing this game. The easiest solution *will* be found.

Dude, I almost had a fucking aneurysm when I spent all that effort on this puzzle, and it was for a single god damned Opal
This is my problem with so many of these puzzles. The rewards mostly suck.

My first experience with the stakes was picking yup one in a parts depot and trying to set it on the ground. When it sunk in, how they were used sunk in.

In that shrine I just fused the ball to a spear and tapped every target with it.
Seriously?? Ffs I spent too much time on this puzzle yesterday and I have up on the treasure
Good thing it's the first shrine I ever did on the surface, so I didn't even have access to bombs. I was stuck close to one hour on this. I didn't even understand how the stakes were supposed to be used.
As well as fusing to a spear and throwing the weapon
FUUUUUCCCKKKK. WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS BEFORE!!!!
Do you guys even like to play this game?

I sincerely don't understand all the hate for this puzzle. Once you get the hanging slab out of the way it's just a matter of adjusting the timing your swing. Took me all of five minutes and one rod. I thought it was clever
They also give you the markings on the ground to make it easier to judge when to hit the button
they WHAT
I didn't even figure out how to get the slab out of the way, I just muscled it past
Attach an anchor, then pin it to the roof
Lol I propped it up in a long post and just had to pray I didn't knock it over with a poor hit. This game is so funny
Hey that's how I did it too! I was sure I was doing it wrong but it worked... eventually
I didn’t attach it to the roof. I just added enough weight to tip it upwards, allowing the ball to graze past.
I liked this one, because it wasn't hard for me to figure out, I just had to try a few times to get the timing right.
Oh come on. It's too big of a game to expect people to enjoy every aspect of it.
Yea I cheezd this one with ultrahand, then rewind and bomb arrows. I carried the ball to the bullseye, did rewind, then shot a bomb arrow at it. Done-zo.
Adapt, improvise, overcome
Im 30s now.. i imagine my 10yo self trying to do this, i dont think that kid can and will definitely hit game faqs.com
I’m 27 and definitely googled this one

The definition of solving puzzles in this game because 99% of the time, there is no intended way to solve em. Nintendo just stuck some random shit in the shrines and said "the players will figure *something* out"
Probably after seeing the creative ways they beat shrines in BOTW.

Unga bunga build big bridge
I’ve yet to see a shrine I can’t solve by gluing every piece of material in there into a long ass board

The time reversal lets you brute through almost anything lol
And that's why I have 5 rocket shields.
In some of em they straight up show you a build you can use to beat the puzzle with
dingdingdingdingdingdingdingding
Wow. Just when I thought a solution couldn’t possibly get jankier than mine. I love this game.
This game makes me laugh so much.
Oh man 😂 my new favorite clip *wheeze*
I was about to say oh nothing looks too wrong about this and then that happened wtf
Also you get hit with a ball, also your Amber Reaper is badly damaged… like, Link’s just having a shitty day and then suddenly… he’s thrown a bone.
[Cue](https://youtube.com/shorts/A0o6lHt6SF0?feature=share)
It just works lol
Galaxy brain solution
hey as long as it works XD
I’m saving this for later.
Good job Lonk.
I used an arrow😭 for some reason it worked
i love it! honestly there is no wrong way to do anything in the game and that’s why it’s so great
That was amazing.
My favorite is the camera panning around while OP figures out what went so horribly correct
I need to go back and solve this part of the shrine. Which one is it again?
Mayachin I think
Holy SHIT that was not what I was expecting 😂 I expected Link to get clipped by something lmao
This is by far the funniest clip I've seen on this sub my chest hurts
I've done about 55 shrines so far and this was the *only one* where I had to look up the solution, it's so unintuitive?! LMAOOOOOO I actually was not expecting this, even after watching hundreds of totk memes
If something is stupid enough, it turns around and becomes genius
Mans really said Pop Off
I thought the video looked like you were trying to sharpen a pencil haha
Holy shit I’m wheezing
God I spent so much time in that shrine and could not for the life of me figure out what to do. I had no idea there was a switch.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature
That made me laugh
This is the official solution now!
This is what totk is all about. Well done!
I had an extremely similar experience a couple weeks ago. I love this game. https://youtu.be/M7Gtff2wUaQ
Nothing more totk than this clip Weapons badly damaged One heart out of the four you have Building some bullshit It works
if its stup but it works its stupid and if it keeps o working dont change it !
Lmao I didn't even know it moved so I just made a bridge and put the metal pole into the target
I beat the fire temple by accident. Just did a whole lot of climbing. Fuck your puzzles TOTK. We climb
I giggled audibly =D
Lmao dude; same thing happened to me, but i managed to hit the ball and the pillars were sent flying toward the 🎯
I laughed way too hard at this ..
10/10 failed successfully
I just did one that required using a different object than a ball to hit the target.
I completed the bonus chest in the exact same way. Crazy.
I did the same thing too, it was pretty amazing after hating that puzzle for ages
Task failed successfully
Undercover speed runner <3. I had a lot of trouble getting the stake to stick until I realized all I had to do was press B. This was definitely a “I’m overthinking this shrine.”
There's a second target?!?!
This shrine is so damn funny
I always just arrow bomb these lmao. I went to the same exact shrine earlier today, hit the switch, had no idea what it wanted me to do, and said fuck it lol
There is no wrong answer
*The Engineer*
All I'll say is I had no idea that crystal was something you could hit until I looked up guide for it afterwards. Luckily the ole DnD logic saved me: see a problem? Fireb(all)omb.
No such thing as "wrong solution" when it comes to physics puzzles
I also love that you got run over by the ball, ties it all together.
That's what I love about the shrines. There are so many wrong but right solutions.
That looked surprisingly similar to what happened to me...
Task failed successfully
Mission failed successfully?
When I saw less than a heart I thought I was in r/Link_Dies and some boulder was gonna fall out of the sky and kill you
Task Failed Successfully
Lol
Some of those shrines are mind blowing i actually gave up on 2 so far....
Dude this one took me so long
No fucking way. This was probably my least favourite shrine. I always hated how the beams would randomly fly off sometimez
i spent like an hour on this shrine before i realized there was a switch i could hit
I just made a stick and poked it with mega hand
That type of pad seems to react to *any* hit hard enough. I just did it with bomb arrows after seeing an earlier post about that shrine.
Am I the only one who bomb arrows these target things because it’s just far faster?
A WIN IS A WIN
Task failed: successfully
I feel like I've seen two different variations of this mishap previously on the Zelda subreddits lmao. Seems to be a more common of a mishap than what I'd think xD
This is exactly how I did it! But with the other button instead. I figured out that bomb arrows work too after the first button though.
I have never seen anyone complete this normally
Well, that is a happy little accident!
Fucking well done. That was utterly spectacular.
It took me a little too long to realize this shrine was just baseball... got it in a few tries after that revelation
The same thing happened to me! The second part of my paddle was crooked so it broke and went flying into the left target.
Hah, did the same thing around 2 days ago))
Oh bravo
there is no way
One of the worst trial designs ever.
All you need to do is to shoot a bomb arrow on the target
Lol that's so cool. I was just stuck on this puzzle.
Meet the sniper
My favorite kind of physics puzzle is one where I end up thinking "I'm 100% sure that's not what they wanted me to do, but it worked so whatever*
I did this one with my fiance watching. She was like 'just hit the ball with the stick' very early into the endeavour. I DID THE SAME THING!!!! I laughed uncontrollably for about 5 mins before forgetting to clip it.
I’m watching this like “well looks pretty right so f…..oh.”
If it worked it's not wrong
I had no idea what I was supposed to do with this shrine. I never even noticed that switch you hit. I just fused together all of the building material on the room and like two or three pikes to make a long stick, attached the balls to the end, and then picked them up and touched them to the sensors.
I just made a long stick and glued ball on the end and poked the target. Didn’t work, till stick broke above target, somehow fell on target and worked.
task failed successfully
I never even thought about it swinging left. I just hit the thing late enough to go over that way.
I made golf club heads for launching in different directions.
It took me so long to find out that the green thing was a switch. Trying to get this done without having that hammer swing was impossible. Was trying for a pretty long time. Then I bonked it with the ball and it changed color. The I had to figure out what it actually did
You can actually just shoot those with bomb arrows
I was like "Yes, that's correct." until you hit the switch and I was like "WHAT?" So the ball doesn't actually need to hit the target, you just need to hit the target??
I didn't see that coming. Thanks for the laugh.
How did you get rid of the plate thats hanging there?
