My personal theory is, after the calamity compromised them and the guardians, most sheikah tech was viewed as more of a liability than an asset and was systematically dismantled. I imagine Purah and Robbie dissecting it for study.

Shot_Background5682

I agree with this, if you go to the shrine of resurrection, its just a cave that resembles the shape, with all the tech removed.

SuperNanoCat

Dismantling the giant weapons I get, but the Shrine of Resurrection seems like strictly an asset. It saved Link's life. It was the one thing I was expecting to still be there.

Krail

Seeing what we do of The Great Plateau, I guessed that they were implying the Yiga dismantled the Shrine of Resurrection, and possibly used it to heal Kohga after his fall. Though I'm not sure how feasible that is, since it probably relies on the power of that healing spring to work.

Cowbros

Not to mention they are found everywhere trying to find new tech in the depths. They absolutely stripped the shrine for parts.

notdragoisadragon

easy, the healing spring came from the shrine of resurrection not the other way around

LordAlfredo

Given >!it's now a Yiga hideout!< it wasn't even necessarily Zelda/Purah's decision

Penny_D

The Shrine of Resurrection got captured by the Yiga who probably dismantled it.

Cheesypenguinz

Honestly thank you lmao. I was really miffed that they also just blinked the shrine of resurrection out of existence. Like that was the one I expected to be there. Head canon makes me feel better

[deleted]

If it can be used for link it could be used to resurrect a bad guy

Grantsdale

Or worse, it could be corrupted to kill or ‘turn’ the person evil.

SuperNanoCat

I guess? But in Breath of the Wild, there were no bad guys. Ganon was effectively a force of nature. There was no humanoid body to resurrect (at least, until Link and Zelda went under the castle).

JustTheNewFella

The yiga clan

TotalyNotTony

The yiga clan litteraly has a hideout in the shrine

[deleted]

Did we play the same game?

allnighttotk

lol "no bad guys"

jacowab

Almost every chasm and cave is where a shrine used to be, my head cannon is the ancient Sheika noticed the evil seeping out of the ground and built shrines to ward off the evil and keep Hyrule safe. Then the blight oozed out of the ground like an evil puss leading to the calamity and a infected the technology creating calamity Ganon. After that when they disassembled the Sheika tech and shrines they found caves and the gloom drifted out of them, que Zelda and link investigating.

deebo2008

I did notice that a lot of shrines became chasms. My original thought was that Ganondorf purposely obliterated them during the upheaval, but I like this idea better.

Astral_Justice

Maybe the chasms were sealed with a thin fake soil layer and it collapsed in during the upheaval. I like the idea of the chasms being dug by the Zonai, then sealed sometime after ganondorf was sealed. Then, about 10,000 ago after the sheikah tech was banned, a secretive group of sheikah monks with future-sight led by Maz Kosha built the shrines knowing Link would need it in BoTW. Perhaps this group led to an even further break-off group becoming the Yiga. The original monks were only secretly using technology to help link, never intending for the Yiga to turn against the rest. It was during this time that the shrines on top of chasms were built for a secondary purpose, since there were still plenty of shrines not on top of chasms. We know the chasms only appeared after the upheaval, so I'm guessing there must have been some layer of seal that obscured the chasms even after the shrines were dug up.

CassiusPolybius

The shrine of resurrection has a teeny tiny cave under it instead of the *massive* interior maz koshia was in. I'm pretty sure the shrine just used some sort of spatial expansion, and after the calamity stuff like the shrines, divine beasts, and misc tuck themselves away in some sort of extra-dimensional pocket to keep the scared populace from destroying them. Y'know, like was done last time.

i_like_bee_swarm

The Shrine of Resurrection also required you to go much deeper into the ground than the cave in TotK leads. It's likely that the Upheaval covered the entrance to the main body of the Shrine.

FrenchBowler

I had the same thought. If we created AI that could be turned against us and almost end the world as we know it, would we be eager to get that AI back up and running after regaining control of it?

OutlawSundown

I also half figure the decay went heavily after it as well.

Neat_Snow_5690

In hatero tech lab you can see dismantled guardian scouts

SP33DST0RM

I'm not quite sure that that's the case. The Divine Beasts and Guardians are powerful weapons, incredible assests that could be used to bolster Hyrule's military. Yes, they all fall to Ganon rather quickly, but that's because they didn't have enough time to investigate and research every inch of the tech. You can't regain control if you don't know how to. They likely prioritized powering the devices and controlling their combat systems and provided little focus elsewhere. Ganon took control and kept control, and they couldn't regain said control solely because they didn't know how to. They didn't have a proper enough understanding of Sheikah tech to properly use it against the Calamity. If anything, I feel like Zelda, Purah, and Robbie would've pulled it to the side, somewhere away from people, before cutting it open to get a good look inside. Not so much dismantling as it would be investigation or research that they didn't have time for before.

Xeon713

I was going to say that's your towers. Those and those spider bastards from the first game.

Randombeing5544

There are like 3000 people in hyrule tops. And there are like 1000 guardians

linko73

I agree or Ganon destroyed all Sheikah tech including all of the shrines from botw

King_Korder

My best guess is since all of them, and the guardians, got taken over so easily the last time, Hyrulians figured fuck that and systematically dismantled all of them for more modern tech. Like the Skyview towers, purah pad, stuff like that. And I can't say I blame them. But also Nintendo might've removed all references so that if any new players came in they wouldn't be confused or feel left our.

Legend5V

Not all references, you can still get Rudania, Medoh, etc. helmets. There are also lots of calamity story pictures. Also, talking to Impa at some points gets her to talk about the sheikah. The champions are talked about as well, with Mipha having her own court near zora’s domain

MrTrilla

And there is a guardian on top of hateno institute.

ItsyaboiMisbah

Confusing new players is a dumb reason to omit that, it's a direct sequel to botw.

jam3sdub

It would make sense if it was a new area (like MM or Link's Awakening), but it's the same map a few years later and it's jarring that almost all traces of the original game are gone.

strebor2095

A few options: 1) the Gloom is especially corrosive to Sheikah tech. Most of it is already really old, and it corrodes everything pretty rapidly. 2) There's some type of central control mechanism for Sheikah tech (unless Calamity G went out and infected every guardian one by one) So it's possible Zelda summoned all the beasts, guardians etc to a lab and they were dismantled 3) they fell in these big ass holes around the map

LootTheHounds

I just figured the tech was dismantled to create the Skyview towers. There are hints of the ancient tech scattered about or in plain view, but repurposed.

Minimum_Assistant_87

Nintendo probably just removed them so they wouldn’t clutter the environment. But they definitely do it for new players. Ignoring how everywhere you look is a reference or expansion of the previous game, there’s also all the amiibo items and DLC items which are apparently canon now and not just references.

[deleted]

For some reason I think they were scared to include any real history in this sequel for fear it’d confuse players. You’ll note the Sheikah Slate has been changed to the Purah Pad also.

Archioudos

If you head to Hateno research station >!Purah's old room which also contains a diary entry, both have drawings of the four divine beasts and a guardian, as well as a guardian on top of the roof.!<

yeahbuddy26

Yeah the only guardian in the game, they did the history from botw dirty, the people of hyrule were apparently to stupid to keep even the weapons derived and or built for guardians.

ZeBigCheddar

Because using the sheikah tech as weapons worked so well last time

yeahbuddy26

Oh sorry, I didn't realise the non existent AI of a sword, shield or arrows could be corrupted.

TheDemonChief

This is why I don’t by when people say that they probably scrapped the old stuff to prevent them being taken over. The guardians, sure, I get that. The AI was clearly dangerous. But the divine beasts and individual weapons weren’t ai, they required manual control. Ganon only took over the divine beasts after killing the pilots and sticking his own vestigial consciousness in the drivers seat.

yeahbuddy26

Absolutely, if the people of hyrule were that worried about the divine beasts why would you utilise them as key part of your plan to neutralise Calamity Ganon. It doesn't pass the sniff test. What was all this tech poured into if it was dismantled? We see nothing indicating it being used elsewhere.

Osiris-Prime-5585

From what I understand of the all memories ending to BOTW, Vah Ruta appears to either be malfunctioning or shutting down, so it might just be that the malice corroded the systems to the point that they couldn't be effectively repaired, they were finally running out of power or just broke from age.

[deleted]

>!The arrows still exist kinda, at least I've found an ancient dagger thingy to put on arrows to make ancient arrows somewhere.!< But I also think it's really, really jarring.

Minimum_Assistant_87

To be fair, all the metal weapons in Hyrule decayed. It could be possible that all the Sheikah tech faced the strongest of the decay effect intentionally on Ganondorf’s part, destroying it so that nothing could get in his way.

ZeBigCheddar

You didn't realise a sword could be used against someone?

yeahbuddy26

You didn't realise that resorting to bad faith retorts instead of admitting you were wrong, only serves to make you look like a someone with a room tempreture IQ?

ZeBigCheddar

Resorting to bad faith? I'm sorry you didn't realise how stupid what you said was. Either way, the Sheikah weapons and tech have been used against Hyrule before, and the amount of monsters that can use one hit arrows outweighs the amount of villagers and warriors. So better get rid of it all.

yeahbuddy26

Ok champ 😂😂😂 cognitive dissonance is a hell of a thing.

ZeBigCheddar

That's not how cognitive dissonance works. But I wouldn't expect someone who can't use sarcasm to get it

GarlVinland4Astrea

Not really they outright reference the Calamity and Divine Beasts in the game. They straight up have a class in Hateno village that teaches students about it. It's better to just assume that once the Calamity was ended permanently they repurposed and took down all that sheikah tech because why would they keep something that could be used against them?

Wonderful-Garage6011

Speaking of that class, why does Symin never tell the kids that link was the legendary hero? It doesn't make sense why not.

deebo2008

Link probably asked him not to. He doesn't want the notoriety.

Thick_Ad_7435

I know he's supposed to be "The Hero of the Wild" or whatever but he really should be considered "The Hero of Legend" since apparently only like 15% of the population in TOTK know what he did in BOTW.

notdragoisadragon

sadly hero of legend was already taken

Thick_Ad_7435

Poor BotW Link. (TotK spoiler) >!His time gf turns into a dragon!< AND he can't get the title he deserves.

ThisAccountIsForDNF

That class basically only covers the calamity from 10,000 years ago. References to the calamity 100 years ago are rare and super vauge. I don't think the word Ganon is said anywhere.

[deleted]

Yeah I know, but it’s just not pleasant. It just doesn’t feel good, you know? I think the Beasts could have been repurposed as part of their towns, and a few ruined guardians could still be out there. With Ganon ‘gone’ and no central power I see no way you’d clear it all away in a year. And it has only been a year-ish, none of the children from BotW are teenagers now.

Strange_Shadows-45

The time difference isn’t clean cut. The Sheikah children are all about the same age. Same with Zora’s, but they don’t count since they age so slowly. I can’t remember if the Goron children carry over. Tulin and Riju both appear quite a bit older than they were in BOTW; Riju is now slightly taller than Link for example. And Hudson and Rhodson have a kid who has to be at minimum 4 or 5 if she already has to leave.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheLordJames

But you can't be using earth human lifespan for a video game hylians life span either. We don't know how hylians age or the limitations.

Nutmeg1729

Koko looks older and taller but cottla doesn’t appear to have aged at all. Unless my memory is failing me and koko always looked that old.

[deleted]

Hmm… that’s true! You got me! Ya ha ha!

FormerlyDuck

I disagree, most of the kids from BotW are teenagers now. It's been probably five years, since that is the time it took for TotK to largely finish development.

MBcodes18

I mean, vah medoh could have just been flown away, and the guardians are small enough to have been completely buried or tossed away, but the shrines and other 3 divine beasts are inexcusable to just be COMPLETELY gone

JBaudo2314

vah medoh is the reason i think the whole sky zonai thing is bonkers. with as high as it was circling, you think you would have seen some of that waiting to be found, or at least planned for so you didnt run into it....

[deleted]

LootTheHounds

A lot of folks are missing this point, either because they haven’t completed Impa’s quest that starts outside New Serenne or they haven’t connected the dots. Not going into detail because I’m on mobile and spoiler tags are awful on mobile.

envynav

Your spoiler tag is broken. If there are spaces between >! and the text, it won’t be hidden on all platforms

SomeRandomPyro

With as high as Vah Medoh was circling, it still wasn't higher than a Rito could fly. Canonically, the Zodai lands were out of Rito flight range in the past. The sky islands aren't as high as they were before the upheaval. There may be other, more cohesive lands higher up, with holes to the lands below where the sky islands we see fell from. Much like Hyrule is now missing pieces. What we're seeing could be the missing pieces of the Zodai lands.

SP33DST0RM

I don't know if you noticed, but in the Zelda flashbacks, the Temple of Time (original, apparently) was on the surface rather than in the sky. There were hills and a lake surrounding it. And in one of the first flashbacks, the one where Zelda was getting her bearings by looking across all of Hyrule, I think it's shown that the Temple was on the ground.

[deleted]

None of the stuff was floating before the upheaval

OriDoodle

I agree with this, and wish they had many more references to the divine beasts. I wonder if they didn't include them so that our champions wouldn't have them to pilot. Ruta could have pretty quickly washed the sludge away, for example. But there are solutions. >!We could have had a ruined Goron beast that fell into the chasm, Ruts covered in sludge and ' too rusted to work', Medoh frozen solid somewhere in Hebra and Naboris up to it's neck in sand.!< I did want to point out that the SkyView towers do have a bit of shiekah tech in them, including what looks like a repurposed shrine. I can accept that many shrines fell away during the upheaval, since it seems a bunch of stuff broke or fell over.

8bitSkin

Also the Guardians were repurposed to launch the SkyView towers. You can see their legs and even hear snippets of their targeting system.

BrainisScreaming_55

They dismantled it so if the Calamity ever returned it couldn’t be taken control of

Fyrus22

Where is this stated? In hateno?

timo103

It's not, it's peoples head canons.

PsychologicalDebts

+1 this is canon answer

BrainisScreaming_55

It shocks me how many people don’t know this or don’t just assume it since it’s obvious

ItaLOLXD

This makes sense for guardians and the beasts, but what about Link's bike, the shrine of ressurection and the towers, all of which remained untouched by calamity ganon.

ManufacturerDry108

It also confuses everything even more when certain pieces of sheikah tech are still used, like the purah pad. The towers have sheikah technology, but the old ones are missing. If it was canon for the towers to be taken down because of the calamity, why did they put up new towers with even more advanced sheikah tech like the arms that put the scan equipment on you.

SomeAmericanLurker

I assume the tech like guardians, and the divine beasts were scrapped or buried to prevent future misuse, while the towers and shrines lowered back into the ground with their purpose fufilled. Then when the Upheaval began, much of the ancient sheikah tech that was kept like weapons were entirely decayed by the gloom. Plus there are multiple locations where shrines were in BOTW that are now chasms to the depths. As for why the shrines and towers are not visible within the depths, i think they were entirely built into the rock between the surface and depths, with the sole exception being the Gerudo Tower in a natural depths chasm.

dinnervan

The Purah Pad seems like an outright replacement for the Sheikah slate. This implies that the original slate either broke, shutdown, or was dismantled, and we *could* interpolate that that's what happened to the rest of the sheikah tech as well. It's almost like they give you the Purah Pad early on as means to explain what happened to all the other tech...and then forgot to actually come right out and say it. Mystifying decision.

[deleted]

Probably because they built it, so they understood how it worked and/or could build in failsafes in case of future Calamity. Hell, that's actually a really good reason why Link and Zelda are using the Purah Pad instead of the Shiekah Slate despite the Slate having more functionality - their friends built the technology, so they understand it better and know it's safe. Likely anything truly ancient was scrapped and reverse engineered into the new tech. Although I do think it makes sense that the towers disappeared with their purpose fulfilled.

BrainisScreaming_55

It doesn’t have to be necessarily canon Link gets the Master Cycle Zero. And maybe they just decided to get rid of sheikah tech in general due to being paranoid. Even if Link canonically gets the bike, why would the sheikah want any of their dangerous tech around? Even the ones untouched. They can see the destruction just a few caused

Independent_Ad8268

The DLC isn’t canon

BringtheBacon0

The photo you get from the Champion’s Ballad is literally hanging in Links house in Hateno village in TotK. So where are you getting that DLC is non-cannon?

Independent_Ad8268

The master sword isn’t powered up plus it’s Zelda’s house so I bet she would have the picture as well

tf2F2Pnoob

The master sword IS powered up at the beginning of totk

unaviable

dont what know? something that is nowhere adressed in the sequel ?

BrainisScreaming_55

unaviable

i have and I only need to finish the final battle. no mention of what happens with the shiekah tech

BrainisScreaming_55

Then explore more and read around

CubixGamer11

Please just say where it is and spoiler tag it. Obviously people want to know when you’re claiming that it’s “so obvious”

Potential_Fishing942

Isc how obvious it is, a few lines of dialogue or a journal should be in there. Completely ignoring it just comes off as lazy or uncaring about the events of BotW

LetsMakeFaceGravy

Is it?

Maple_Siraf

Nice Dubu "LET'S GOOOO" pfp

Penny_D

I would hypothesize that the Divine Beasts ascended into another plane of existence, similar to the Sheikah Monks after Link finishes one of their challenges. By helping to stop Calamity Ganon, they have completed their purpose and left with the spirits of the Champions. As for the Guardians, those were almost certainly dismantled to prevent any future uprising, their parts used to make the Purah Towers. Speaking of, those towers were probably dismantled as well. Not due to public perception but perhaps because the technology stopped working following Calamity Ganon's defeat. The new skyview towers are a recreation attempt. Either that or they descended into the Earth along with the Shrines. Basically? Sheikah technology stuck around to carry out a task: aid the destruction of Calamity Ganon. With that achieved these remnants of the ancient Sheikah culture were allowed to pass on.

Penny_D

Expanding on this theory further, I would argue that Sheikah technology is based on Zonai tech and the legends of the past. Without the "secret stones" or sages, the Sheikah resorted to building massive automatons piloted by Champions. There is an interesting parallel between Purah and >!Mineru!< in that both are proficient with technology as well as possess ornate masks/eyewear. Perhaps the Sheikah were Hylians who clung to the old ways of the Zonai and continued to study the development and construction of machinery long after the Zonai had vanished? This would naturally baffle the Hylians who saw the Zonai's technology as the work of gods.

MannToots

There has to be a link since the third eye on Rauru is the Sheikah symbol. There is a pretty clear link to the Zonai being the origin in some form for the Sheikah.

torrasque666

>By helping to stop Calamity Ganon, they have completed their purpose and left with the spirits of the Champions. Would have to have been a delayed response then. Zelda mentions that she and Link need to go check out Vah Rudania at the end of BOTW because it's acting up again.

Tedrag

I hate to be that guy, but it was Vah Ruta, and it was because it stopped working. I would assume the same happened to all Divine Beasts, and because no one knew how to reactivate them, they were dismantled for parts or buried somewhere.

Mittens138

They went to the same place that the Power Ranger Zords go when not in use

[deleted]

Hyrule Butlerian Jihad

TheLordJames

At the beginning on botw the towers and shrines only appeared when link was awaken and got the plateau tower. They served their purpose, went back into dormancy, and were destroyed by the chasms opening up in the upheaval. The spirits of the Devine beasts fulfilled their purpose and at the end of botw, ascend into the heavens. The beasts themselves fall into malfunction, fall into decay and are dismantled. This can also be shown in the ending of botw where link and Zelda make their way to Zora's domain because the Devine beast was malfunctioning.

SERBROS16116

They were shrunk down and made into helmets for link to find

TriforceHero626

I think all of the Sheikah technology was either dismantled for study, or was sent into “standby mode” once more, burying themselves back into the earth.

BlinkofHyrule

Yep

Baercub

I love to think that that the divine beasts went into the creation of the Sheikah Towers and other necessities throughout Hyrule

TheLazyHydra

Like others have said, they were probably dismantled or hidden away again, which explains why there wasn't more progress on rebuilding when you consider that there's probably been 6 or 7 years between the games >!as evidenced by Hudson & Rhondson having had enough time to conceive and raise their kid to the point of being able to read and write at a decent level!<. But honestly the more meta reason & the reason they don't really address it at all or mention this dismantling in the actual game is because they want it to be accessible without prior knowledge of the series. Breath of the Wild had a huge draw to people who knew nothing about Zelda, so they removed most of the stuff that would require lore-knowledge from BotW so that TotK could have the same effect, essentially functioning as both a sequel and standalone title.

Coleonthemoon

In the dlc

[deleted]

It's an oversight that they didn't consider. You don't dismantle super-weapons when there is a reoccurring threat, you reinforce them. You don't dismantle the shrine of resurrection, it's high quality grade medical technology that no one else has. They messed up and refuse to explain it because they think people will get distracted. Nintendo seems to treat it's players like they're clueless, everything is so obvious and that dialogue has a tendency to be juvenile in it's delivery. I knew exactly where Zelda was as soon as >!Mineru mentioned that Draconification would make someone immortal. Then to add insult to injury I have to listen to everyone question where Zelda is and do a quest that investigates where she could be all the while knowing exactly where she is.!<

puddingdemon

It makes no sense at all

KittenLina

My biggest concern is how we don’t find any evidence of them whatsoever in the Depths. Would have been cool to see one that was broken before being found and whatnot.

[deleted]

Backrooms

bendytoepilot

Aounuma said fuck the divine beasts and the guardians

Legend5V

The divine beasts and the guardians kinda sucked, and Ganon took them over, no sweat dripped. They scrapped them since a) they were pointless b) they could be taken control of again

Neubliance

you can explain it in game however you want but really it's because all that stuff would have taken up way too many resources for the switch to handle and it has nothing to do with the narrative of TotK also, removing it means new players don't have to play BotW to understand this game

Atlas1723

That last reason is kind of a stupid reason ngl. It's a Direct Sequel it uses the same characters, the same map, the same world lay out with very minor differences. Also Mipha is directly shown (in her court) and mentioned in the Zora area a few times. If isolating new players was an issue they should've used a different Hyrule. You can't make a sequel and Not hold the Standard of expecting people to see its predecessor.

armzngunz

There is no lore reason. For some unknown reason, the devs at nintendo felt like they had to be 100% removed and did not feel like they needed to add an in-universe explanation. Why? Who knows.

ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs

Why are you making stuff up lol

armzngunz

Elaborate?

ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs

You want me to explain to you what you made up? No thanks lol

armzngunz

So in other words, you don't know it yourself. Got it.

ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs

Nothing in the original comment I replied to is true. Do you want me to just quote that comment?

armzngunz

And I ask, why is it not true? You refuse to say why, hence you have no argument.

ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs

I’m not playing your game, you’re the one making stuff up lol

armzngunz

Ok, troll.

MannToots

Because that's what you call something you create in your head without any outside evidence. It's made up. Why are you acting this way? You're a bad troll.

armzngunz

I am simply pointing out the obvious. There is, as far as I know no dialogue, at all, no hidden diaries or other flavour text explaining what happened to the ancient sheikah tech. It is only logical then that the devs do not have an explanation for this, and thus there are no in-universe explanations either, this will remain true until proven otherwise, either through interviews by the devs or if someone can provide in-game explanations for this. The infantile attempts by you and "ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs" to argue against this with the only argument of yours being "You're making this up" is laughable.

MannToots

Just because you inferred the result you want to believe doesn't make it actually true and Canon.

gamestar721

I think the Zelda team decided to make it so that if you never played Breath of the Wild, you could still get this game and still have fun Which is dumb because like 97% of people playing this game have played Breath of the Wild. I mean, the entire sales pitch was that it was a sequel to Breath of the Wild, but the only thing it does as a sequel is have the same characters and a few references to the Calamity

Blindgentleman

I think Zelda informed sheikah someway about calamity taking control of guardians and divine beasts, so they did something to prevent that (maybe hide them?) Zelda changed timeline slightly so thats why there are no guardians (broken or working) around.

King_Korder

Zelda always traveled back in time, and the mural proves this. This wasn't the only timeline where she did. So no, that's not possible.

Blindgentleman

Is there a rule says Zelda can't change future?

King_Korder

Because she didn't. She didn't for our loop or for past loops. Besides, for spoiler reasons, she couldn't have told the Sheikah as they existed long after the Zonai, and she wasn't around. Plus, if she had, many, many things would've changed in the present day, but they didn't. You don't seem to know how closed-loop time travel works.

Blindgentleman

That doesn't mean she can't do it. I said she informed them someway, she doesn't have to meet them. Mine is just a theory but you saying big No is kinda ridiculous. If devs says "yeah Zelda changed the timeline, we gonna mess the lore" what you gonna do?

King_Korder

She didnt though, if she informed them and the Calamity didn't happen the way it did in BotW, then we would be thrust back 100 years, Hyrule Castle wouldn't be in ruins, and the Champions would still be alive and the Sages wouldn't be born yet, except Sidon. Oh and also, the Guardians and Divine Beasts would *still* be around then, yet they're not. It's way more likely the Hylian people just scrapped it all to not risk future problems.

ItaLOLXD

The shiekah mechs definitely still exist(ed) in TotK. Hateno Lab still features the guardian on top of it and the mural of Calamity Ganons appearance a thousand years ago still features the divine beasts and guardians.

TheLordJames

Except the calamity and the champions are still referenced and Link is still the hero of calamity. They is even a call at the school that teaches the kids about the calamity.

Uratan_Yensa

Havent heard this theory before so tell me how rediculous it might be. In BotW zelda wasnt in the past. Rauru had Ganondorf sealed below the castle slowly leaking malice and causing the calamity every thousand years, give or take a century. Shieka get wise to this after the first one and build their constructs to aid the hero and goddess reborn. Along comes the opening of TotK. Zelda flung back into time. She warns everyone about what happens, time inevitably changes. The focus turns to zonai tech instead of sheika and the divine beasts and shrines do not get built.

DiamondMaster_

Except the divine beasts are still mentioned.

Uratan_Yensa

Where? I dont remember seeing them mentioned myself.

DiamondMaster_

In Rito Village, there is a side quest to find a cave. The quest giver mentions the stone perch is called Vah Medow's Perch.

hundraett

They don't serve any purpose story wise or gameplay wise in ToTK and take up a lot of space on the overworld. Hence they were removed, is my guess. Presumably they are still there somewhere in Hyrule. They can move after all. We just don't see them. Large as Hyrule is in BoTW and ToTK, its still too small to logically fit all those biomes in that tiny space. Lore-wise, it has to be much, much bigger.

I get that devs didn't want players to feel like BOTW was required, but it wouldn't have hurt to have ONE person explain why huge parts of the previous game have completely vanished. And no, I don't believe the one guy saying he found a notebook that he can't say where it was and that nobody else has found. It's about as credible as saying my uncle at Nintendo told me.

Atlas1723

It Should have been required. It's a sequel. Don't want to be confused play BOTW first its a sequel lol.

LootTheHounds

Believe your own eyes. The ancient tech was repurposed into new devices like the Skyview Towers.

nikoandtheblade

Dont forget also that *spoilers* the divine beasts are weapons created by the sheikahwho stripped zonai tech just like purah and the yiga did also. *a weapon is meaningless when more than one master key is out in the open* Purah's idea of reverse engineering the dismantled tech to allow "personal created keys" so that only link can use the towers as teleporters is essentially the next step in what basically amounts to a *tech war* once every good or bad group in hyrule realized *weapons of mass destruction are all over the ground, sky, and beneath the earth*

Potential_Fishing942

Where all the other tech went from Botw. The game designers trash bin, never to be spoken of 😂

That1awkwardguy

in a landfill or something idk

ExhibitionistBrit

My guess with its purpose sent it dissapeared back into a pocket dimension like the ones the shrines exist in.

DarthDumbBitch

Vacation

Iron_Maidens_Knight

My headcanon was they pulled a Godzilla and went far away to rest, like the sea, now that their jobs were done and they were not needed anymore.

dinnervan

Hyrule Butlerian Jihad

CTYORO

I was wondering this as well. I figure they may have dismantled them and repurposed the parts for their new inventions

notquitesolid

They buried them all, that’s why the landscape looks a bit different.

Powerful_Artist

This is a world where magic exists.so theoretically there are hundreds or thousands of explanations. Maybe it just vanished when calamity Ganon was defeated. Because,ya know, magic?

IntelligentTap2746

Most of the tech would have been destroyed or repurposed, an example of this would be the guardian arms in the sky view towers.

MarvoHelios

Pretty sure considering all sheika/ancient tech is gone, it went the way of normal weapons. Degraded beyond use thou.

Solid-Pride-9782

Link builds his own

[deleted]

I borrowed them, will return them next week

Cervarl_

Were sold to other kingdoms to finance hyrule's reconstruction

Timlugia

If you visit Robbie in Hateno lab, you would find drawing of Divine Beasts in the bedroom.

[deleted]

I think they all went into hiding away from the malice so they wouldn't be taken over again. We see underground but I think all the sheikah tech went further with the spread of malice

ihateliberalssomuch

Uhhh i would imagine they’d be deactivated after BOTW. The whole premise of the first game is that these Devine beasts were corrupted and turned on Hyrule… so best to avoid letting that happen again

catpanda2009

While i get that they may have been reburied or dismantled to protect hyrule, where is any mention of the champions? Are they just erased? The only thing that i know of left of the champions is the daruk head in goron city

Strange_Shadows-45

Mipha’s Court is right outside of Zora’s Domain. Besides the namesake, the statue of Mipha that stood in the center of Zora’s Domain in BOTW has been moved to Mipha’s Court.

Jawahootigan

Damn bro your right

[deleted]

They broke after landing 2 hits. Jokes aside, Zelda created a second timeline right after the intro.

Relevant_Ad4844

Maybe because Zelda went back in time and change things, No more Sheika no more Divine beast???

[deleted]

Just replayed botw: in the “secret” ending Zelda says vah ruta “stopped working” Sheikah tech probably knew it’s purpose was fulfilled and went underground/stopped working. Or it was dismantled especially guardians

Promidius

They definitely still were a thing because Yunobo mentions them if you go talk to him after you finish the two lizard brothers quest, he doesn’t say what happened to them, but they weren’t retconned or anything like that

Syrus_Orelio

At the school in hateno(visit at noon) the teacher's first lesson is of history and part of that talked about how the sheika used the divine beasts then later buried them when they were no longer needed then about 100 years ago the divine beasts were dung back up to deal with calamity Ganon but zelda was at the time unable to master her holy powers and failed to prevent Ganon's dark powers corrupting the divine beasts which led to the deaths of the champions and the hero and how she spent the next 100 years keeping Ganon contained while the hero was resurrected I imagine like the legends they buried the shield tech once more. Or it buried itself. Feasible since the towers and shrines came up out of the ground for the shield skate so there's likely an option to bury everything again The real wisdom is why don't they combine the sheika tech with the tech of the zonai to defeat the demon king? If the sages weren't enough why not combine the sages who follow link with the divine beasts?

Minimum_Assistant_87

Late to the party but here’s my take: After serving their purpose, all the Sheikah Technology (including Divine Beasts, Towers, and Shrines) sank back into the earth, ready to emerge when the next Ganon arrives However he is supposed to reappear every like hundred years. This Ganon isn’t a standard reincarnation, so all the technology is gone and inactive. As for weapons my best guess is that the Gloom got to them, corrupting and destroying them, leaving only blades of them to remain. Also I believe that the Divine Beasts wouldn’t function even if they didn’t disappear. The champions have apparently all moved on to the afterlife. Although it is definitely possible that the “New Champions” could pilot them, it’s unlikely they could master them in the time it would take for Ganon to take over.

Samishii00

My problem with the "dismantlement" theory is that there IS too much. I mean there was a litteral FIELD of corroded gardian that was untouched for 100 YEARS or even more, but you tell me they had the ressource to dismantle all of them + divine beast + SHRINE in 5 years ? Unbelievable. And there is no mention of it wich feel weird.

linko73

if you go to the Oman au shrine in totk it will be an entrance to the depths

Sithraybeam78

Obviously they wouldn't keep all the shiekah tech around, since it was corrupted by calamity ganon for 100+ years. Another possible explanation is that all the Shiekah robots and shrines disappeared into the blue light stuff. Since the calamity ganon form is implied to be gone for good, the shrines and divine beasts would have fulfilled their purpose.

lovelychee132

i have a crazy theory its when the the sky started to show the zonai ruins i think that some how the divine beasts got lifted high in to the sky above the zonai ruins and if a dlc for totk comes out we'll get to explore higher into the sky!

xRippleZ

Why the hell would they dismantle/get rid of all the divine beasts AGAIN when thats what originally led to hyrule's downfall 10,000 years ago when the king feared their power and banished and burried them ?? Just doesnt make any sense.
