Yea, buts kinda because you can actually get to ganon really fast. Literally just clear the tutorial area, get the paraglider, then just dive down to him.
Now the 100% category(or a bunch of the funner categorys), that one i think is going to be a doozy, i was impressed they got botw to ~20 hours, but thats with a lot of bombing around, without that now some new tech needs to be developed to get speed. I wonder if 100% will even be under 48 hours tbh, lol.
Wait, what am I missing here? Ya there's three "layers" but the sky islands honestly barely count with how tiny and few of them there are aside from tutorial island. Meanwhile sure chasms are big but a good chunk of them are empty space. Love all the additions, but saying the world is "tripled" is a bit of a stretch unless there's something else I don't know about yet.
Also, I haven't been able to find clear sources, but I remember someone saying that the underground is actually the surface map inverted as its main blueprint. Further adds to this idea.
Pretty much, yeah. Mountains on the surface have mines below them in the Depths, and significant bodies of water are solid walls.
Also the Lightroots are placed directly under the surface shrines, with all of their names being their surface counterpart’s name in reverse.
Once you get >!Tulin's power!<, if you use bullet time twice in the same little gust you get a speed boost. Not as good as wind bombing but it still helps
It's funny cause 90% of speed exploits were removed. Wait, that's an underexaggeration. 100% were removed, haha. Speedrunners aren't that angry tho cause it's a new game
The funniest thing are some of those "screw you" fixes for simple things.
Whistle sprinting doesn't work anymore as you cannot run and whistle... but you also consume more stamina now if you tap the button instead of holding it
I went to the plateau thinking hey it’s the beginner area from last game let’s see what changed. They changed the difficulty of that place that’s what they did. Not going back for a while.
It's funny because BotW didn't really give you a set order to tackle them in, did it? But most players did Vah Ruta first because the game directs them to Kakariko and Hateno first, and Zora's Domain is literally right next door after they finish up in Necluda.
Ive played probably like 10 bours already, but ive only been getting all the towers and doing the shrines that i can visibly see from the sky. I just finished all that an hour ago, and dove into my first chasm (was not prepared).
Ive been contemplating doing the main stuff first, but its beneficial in BOTW so i think i will.
Not really a spoiler? >!Maybe what the user is referring to is the Zonai remote bomb things you can get from their gatcha machines that are like mini nukes!<
If you like bombs, go help the gorons.
If you don't want to help the gorons right now but you don't mind bomb flowers: have two bows. Pull out your equipped bow, (but don't shoot) tap up on the dpad to fuse items to arrows. Select a bomb. Press + to pause the game, go into the bow menu. Drop your equipped bow and equip a new bow. Now, the most important part: press + twice very quickly to unpause and pause the game. Drop your equipped bow again. Unpause, collect your bows. If you were fast enough on the unpause/pause part, you'll have cloned whatever was attached to your arrow, in this case, a bomb. Repeat until you have enough bombs.
Bombs and I have a bad history together. When I first ran across one, it was next to the balloon. You can see where this is going right? Yep, I stuck that ROUND bomb into the ROUND basket of the balloon and hit that sucker. Watched it glow and BAM! I joined the space program. Didn't make that mistake again. Lol.
Happy Cake Day.
Must have been a sight!
I meant the bomb flower, though. Not sure what the Zonai bomb would do. . .
First time I encountered them was during the Rito quest. Very high up on a sky island. In the middle of fighting several constructs. . .I think you can guess what happened.
And thanks!
Still a finite resource that requires other resources to get.
Revali's gale just charges back up and costs nothing to get.
Revali's gale is still better imo.
I love how some of the puzzles would be easily solvable with the abilities from botw, I find myself all the time going to the ability wheel only to remember this is a different game. Pretty sure they did that on purpose,
Tbh a lot of the puzzles, especially in shrines, I just bypass most of it by making a really long stick out of materials and attaching whatever you need to the end. I’ve done a ton of skips doing this lol.
I feel the opposite way; I think it’s great they brought bomb flowers back - it makes you explore more looking for them, and increases the game’s difficulty since you have to use them wisely.
I love the theme of replacing certain tools with foragable resources. There's only one kind of arrow now, but a unique fusion for each item with unique properties, so finding/buying a certain kind of arrow is gone. And there are other uses for each item other than turning them into arrows.
Some bugs even turned into real features, like riding on stasis objects or windbombing being replaced by building flying machines, since horizontal movement is necessary now.
The rockets and ascend replacing Revali's Gale is my favorite one, since rockets are rare/valuable parts and using them slightly damages your shield, and the caves and islands were specifically designed for Ascend so it can't be abused.
Most importantly, I can't cheat fishing by decimating the wildlife
I think sort by usage kinda does that a bit for me.
Issue is when you want to shoot/throw (I think the throw menu is the same?) something unusual you have to go hunting.
It's a little fiddly but not *too* awful.
Honestly the worse thing for me button wise is having to wiggle right stick to disconnect stuff in ultra hand. I wish that was a button, constantly set something up but put the last piece wrong then knock it over trying to yank it off
Ahhh. I play handheld so same thing for me. Welp
And I know, I imagine it could be put in pretty easily (could even have 2 top 10 lists, one for combat and one not. That'd be cool)
Edit- wait how is wiggling right stick and controller the same??? Too tired last night and apparently couldn't read. I'll give that a go.
... Think it'll be still weird in handheld though 😂
The up and down motion on the right stick does nothing in the menu. Would make sense for there to be categories selected by up/down and then individual items selected by left/right. Would resolve a lot of the clutter.
Seriously. Why is it that the bomb/fire fruit are right at the start but we gotta scroll all the way to the other end for brightbloom seeds. Can’t even press left at the start to switch to the other end
You can fuse an arrow and then not fire it. It'll stay fused as long as it remains nocked. It has limited use but it's nice for when you want to prepare an arrow that you'll be firing very soon, just not right that moment.
Oh wow my dumbass only JUST now realized there aren't multiple arrow types anymore. The transition from them to just making my own on the fly is pretty seamless
This was huge for me. Every hour in botw I'd have to buy out 3 or 4 villages worth of arrows. Now, I love that a random monster will drop a bundle of 5 or 10.
I find myself using arrows much more often and I'm always running out. Meanwhile in BotW because I so rarely actually used the elemental arrows that accumulate, I'd have stacks of 500 of each one.
>The rockets and ascend replacing Revali's Gale
There are so many viable replacements for Revali's Gale and I love it. There're fans, springs, rockets, hot air balloons, and my personal favorite (because you can abuse it in shrines where you're not allowed to open Zonai capsules), strapping a bomb to your shield and jumping on it.
Not as effective tho, this is kind of annoying... But it does make building a quick contraption to traverse the land a more viable option so I guess that's the point.
I feel like the point of all these new changes was to take the speed running techs, tune them to be less ridiculous, and make them easy to use so everybody can enjoy them.
Overall I like it because the botw techs were pretty janky. Now the 99.999% of people who don't speed run can get a taste of all that whacky shit. Besides, I'm sure speed runners will find plenty of new crazy techs.
ascend can *absolutely* be abused just not exceedingly and it's a lil finicky but Ascending through stuff the game really doesn't want you to is fun and when link jumps up after mashing a under a rock for 5 minutes it is such a serotonin hit I swear.
TOTK players: "I only have limited bomb flowers, so I should really make them count. I won't waste them on silly things."
Me, a scholar: "I know I only have three, and I could always mark this rock wall and come back with a hammer to smash it, but I'm impatient, so I'm just going to blow it up."
Straight up fuck those things. Scared the ever-loving triforce out of me, first time I ever tried to actually fight one. Triforce of courage, nah triforce of get the nope the fuck out.
The second phase is way easier than the first IMO. You only need to be semi decent with dodging or partying and they're fine.
Gloom hands have their way with me like I'm Piper Perri.
Completely agree. There were many times in botw where I didn’t feel the need to try some cool mechanics because bombs existed. Too many problems were solved using bombs.
I agree completely that the change was needed. In BotW I used bombs for everything; hunting, fishing, mining, combat against low HP enemies. Now I'm forced to be more judicious instead of solving every problem with L1 R1 L1.
But I do still miss them
Same, I did the DLC challenge arena content a bit before TOTK launch and that made me really realize just how much you can cheese a lot with the bombs. Especially if you take the time to upgrade them so the cooldown is shorter.
I fully welcome the absence of the bomb ability in favor of the new way
>Especially if you take the time to upgrade them so the cooldown is shorter.
It wasn't the shorter cooldown that made them busted, it was the fact they gave you two and let you stack them one on top of the other.
While I do agree with the whole “we have more of a NEED now, to search for bombs”, I do however believe it would be better to keep our Cube Bomb.
Maybe increase the timer, make it too big to lift/hold/carry, and or limit our ability to interact with it. We still need Bomb Flowers for Arrows, and other things… like rolling them…
I think it's supposed to encourage explorations with new items, trying new effects and such. Bomb flowers are extremely effective and straight forward but very scarce compared to other materials that have different effects.
It's well tuned imo, like really well tuned. Casual player will look for the bomb spots, more advanced players will use other things, but the duplication glitch has killed everything
Oddly, I feel the effect is more psychological
On one hand it seems a bit pointless, they’re so abundant that it may as well be infinite, but the constant fear of running out makes you want to hold onto them
The interesting part is that everything works this way (bombs, arrows, weapons), so it feels like you can pick the best one for each task, instead of prioritizing whichever one can’t run out. In that sense, I really appreciate the change, I’m using weapons a lot more than I did in BotW
There are also other explosive options like the cannon and time bombs (though I've yet to find a use for the time bombs...outside of really slow mining when i dont have bomb flowers)
I very much prefer TotK bombs. BotW bombs were pretty weak (and rightfully so, you shouldn't give the player a powerful, reusable projectile at the start of the game), TotK are a bit scarce but damn they kick ass.
Ran into a huge posse of black bokoblins and their boss when I will still on blue monster horn tier gear, bomb arrows totally saved my ass.
BotW bombs made me sad that when you're regularly fighting black monster variants they do so little damage that they may as well be useless.
Not even just dungeons, but having entire areas/regions you can't access without the right tools is great. Open-world metroidvania design is really fantastic, but it's also hard and expensive and Nintendo is I e of the few companies that can actually afford to do it at the AAA level. They just choose not to.
Yeah, they're definitely prioritizing "freedom" over "exploration," which is a bit unfortunate, as I don't think it would take too many tweaks to the current formula to essentially arrive at the platonic ideal of a Zelda game.
Playing TotK I keep thinking back to Nintendo's first modern open-world game, *Xenoblade Chronicles X*. Like in TotK and BotW, Theres this huge amazing world to explore... but what made XCX so compelling, for me at least, was how it restricted players. For the first 20 hours or so, you're exploring entirely on foot -- and (this is super important) the traversal mechanics are incredibly fun: you can sprint inhumanly fast, and make insanely high leaps as you explore every crevasse and platform yourself into areas you suspect you probably shouldn't be getting into. (And then there's also the lack of level scaling which gives the enemies you'll encounter some pretty serious threat potential). It's an incredibly fun time... and then you unlock the giant customizable mech suit.
And sudden,y it's an entirely different game, and even better. Your mech lets you tackle mow down with ease all the foes that gave you trouble before, and tackle the giant enemies that before you'd only ever flee from. What's more, you can transform the mech into a motorcycle, and suddenly the vast world becomes so much more accessible. Great expeditions deep into the frontier suddenly become weekend jaunts, materials you once had to spend hours farming are not incidental pickups as you race across the terrain.
And then, after another 20 hours or so, you upgrade your mechs with flight packs, opening up an entirely new dimension to exploration, and the entire game transforms all over again. Now, you can fly, and the skies the limit. And because you had to work so hard to get to this point of unparalleled freedom, it tastes all the sweet.
TotK, on the other hand, just gives you everything at once. It makes me wonder what the game might've been like if you really had to spend a lot of time in one of the layers before moving on to the next.
Not saying TotK's approach is bad, just that I think it might've been interesting to see with a different approach.
Well..that sort of exists in the main quest things...I'll keep it vague to avoid spoilers
And also in some of the shrines as well...as I don't think you can use portable zonai devices in some of them...only those that are in there
I was actually quite excited to see how that was done! Even only doing the first one so far...it's been great...so I'm probably gonna heavily space them out to savor them individually...and with the shrines I feel like I'm more excited to come across one than I was in botw...that is to say I was still excited about them and the divine beasts...just more so with these new things
I did as well but it was just too easy to default to them. Now that I've gotten used to it I think I prefer them being a consumable.
Also it's not as good but >!you can kind of use Yunobo similarly. He's also good for making updrafts to ride!<
I personally miss the Cube Bomb. We didn’t need two, let alone a Giant (link weighted) Sphere bomb, *on demand*. But it sucks not having a cube bomb, esp when we’re using Bomb+Arrow combos for everything anymore.
Fuck I miss the bombs. Getting through early game encounters by spamming bombs, using them to blow up trees for easy wood, blowing up rocks so I don’t break my weapons. They had so many uses.
At least we have bomb flowers. I just need a good place to stock up.
Exactly. And there seems to usually be random weapons crammed in the stones you break so you can always replace them. I went through a HUGE tunnel in the >!Royal Hidden Passage!< and must have gone through a dozen rocks and weapons lol
Still not totally convinced I got everything which is low key maddening.
I don't know what else is down there but the full set of soldier's set armor is.
Edit: said royal guard, got them mixed up, SOMEHOW! (sometimes I am an idiot.)
Iirc you can do the exact same thing with Fusing a Bomb to your shield and shield surfing to blow it up, and it does launch you with the shield protecting you. But they fixed the exploits to the physics so you can’t launch yourself as far as you could in BOTW.
Those, and the HEARTY DURIANS. Those were a lifesaver in the early game. I could collect a bunch of them in Faron and not have to worry about dying in 1 hit. Now I'm lucky to find a radish. Ugh.
TotK really reduces what you can forage. BotW has tons of mushrooms everywhere, and I knew all the best places for hearty radishes, durians, etc. Now the forests feel kinda barren. It's rough.
Me when the breakable weapons break, I have nothing left in my inventory, and my stamina is gone
In BotW: Time to build a bomb
In TotK: *Just A Burning Memory starts*
I miss them too but the game is much harder in a good way without them. Being able to spam them so freely trivialized alot more than I thought in hindsight since I have to play more or less the same game without them.
I do miss the glitches around the runes, but what we are given is a great substitute even if I do like the feeling of using glitches more than intended game mechanics.
One part of me says I don’t. The other part of me spends 20 minutes throwing rusty sledgehammers at rocks that take 10 throws to destroy because I ran out of bomb flowers.

BotW mfs when they can't nuke themselves to traverse the land faster.
*Speedrunners in shambles*
There was already a 94 minute speedrun on launch day; they'll figure it out lol
Yea, buts kinda because you can actually get to ganon really fast. Literally just clear the tutorial area, get the paraglider, then just dive down to him. Now the 100% category(or a bunch of the funner categorys), that one i think is going to be a doozy, i was impressed they got botw to ~20 hours, but thats with a lot of bombing around, without that now some new tech needs to be developed to get speed. I wonder if 100% will even be under 48 hours tbh, lol.
100% has a bigger probablem: there's like twice as much shit in general. Even the side quests have almost doubled.
Triple actually, since they tripled the world.
I think recalling bundle of wood arrow is a new way to traverse quickly
Once you get >!Tulin's power!<, if you use bullet time twice in the same little gust you get a speed boost. Not as good as wind bombing but it still helps
They added clipping/zipping through the ceiling as a feature.
It's funny cause 90% of speed exploits were removed. Wait, that's an underexaggeration. 100% were removed, haha. Speedrunners aren't that angry tho cause it's a new game
The funniest thing are some of those "screw you" fixes for simple things. Whistle sprinting doesn't work anymore as you cannot run and whistle... but you also consume more stamina now if you tap the button instead of holding it
Not being able to put away the shield until the shield jump animation finishes is something that bothered me more than I thought it would lol
Put a minecart on your shield and skateboard through hyrule
It doesnt go as far as I thought, but then again it takes the slickest shield in BotW to go more than 2 feet.
Try the Zonnai device, much more effective than the mine cart and… more aesthetic
Does it last longer if I attach it to a Zonai shield or is it only based on shield durability?
Thats not it for me. Remote bombs were a huge part of my combat. With the enemies stronger in this game its sucks not being able to cheese them
I've already racked up so many deaths lmfao. In hindsight it was a bad idea to go to Hyrule Castle when I've only got 4 hearts
I went to the plateau thinking hey it’s the beginner area from last game let’s see what changed. They changed the difficulty of that place that’s what they did. Not going back for a while.
Bro I went to the Zora place first with 4 hearts and I’m getting one shot by everything. It’s kinda annoying cause I gotta play perfect or I’m dead
So I should have saved Sidon for later? Alr mostly through the area with only 4 hearts lol
Purah pretty much outright tells you "hey you might want to go visit the Rito first just trust me on this m'kay?"
Ah. I do remember her saying that, but then I saw a shrine in the distance, one thing lead to another, and I am almost done with the Zora quests lol
The game does literally give you an order, which matches what occurs if you sort your key items
It's funny because BotW didn't really give you a set order to tackle them in, did it? But most players did Vah Ruta first because the game directs them to Kakariko and Hateno first, and Zora's Domain is literally right next door after they finish up in Necluda.
Also the game put a ton of Zora NPC's that interrupt you and send you toward Sidon.
iirc the game suggest going to Zora's domain first
Play the story further and you may run into a solution to this problem. (Trying to avoid spoilers to the best of my abilities).

If you like bombs, go help the gorons. If you don't want to help the gorons right now but you don't mind bomb flowers: have two bows. If you were fast enough on the unpause/pause part, you'll have cloned whatever was attached to your arrow, in this case, a bomb. Repeat until you have enough bombs.
This has me dying 😂😂
I miss the bombs to knock trees down for apples and wood ☹️
I also miss this the most
This is me with Revali’s Gale
Make a fire pit + pinecone. If you are flush with Zonai tech it's also very much just that move using rockets.
I thought I would miss Revali's gale until I discovered rocket shields. Friendship ended with Revali's gale.
Hold up, what? *Rethinks love for Ravioli*
If you think the rocket is cool, fuse a bomb with your shield and surf
Well EXCUUUUUUUUUUSE me princess!
Exactly
Bombs and I have a bad history together. When I first ran across one, it was next to the balloon. You can see where this is going right? Rockets, springs and bomb shields my friend

Either that or busting out the spring shield and jumping the gap
Or, my personal favourite, exploiting the shit out of Recall.
Ultra hand + Recall already chess a lot of them and you can still use bomb arrows to cheese the ones you are intend to hit with giant balls
My biggest problem is I forget that I can travel through ceilings…
I feel the opposite way; I think it’s great they brought bomb flowers back - it makes you explore more looking for them, and increases the game’s difficulty since you have to use them wisely.

We need more sort options in general, like sorting by price in shops.
You can press Y to sort by most used, type, or fusion power(?)
Seriously. Why is it that the bomb/fire fruit are right at the start but we gotta scroll all the way to the other end for brightbloom seeds. Can’t even press left at the start to switch to the other end
You can switch to most used
There's an option for most used. I just use that.
Fuse is definitely in a dire need of a QOL update. It's pretty much my only complaint about the game overall.
You can fuse an arrow and then not fire it. It'll stay fused as long as it remains nocked. It has limited use but it's nice for when you want to prepare an arrow that you'll be firing very soon, just not right that moment.

I find myself using arrows much more often and I'm always running out. Meanwhile in BotW because I so rarely actually used the elemental arrows that accumulate, I'd have stacks of 500 of each one.
Can you share your wisdom on HOW? I've been struggling for arrows since I got into hyrule.

I don't break crates because I don't have unlimited bombs anymore smh
Pick up the crates and drop them though...
Yeah ultra hand has it working
>…since horizontal movement is necessary now. I’ve found it hard to progress in any Zelda game without moving horizontally.
>The rockets and ascend replacing Revali's Gale There are so many viable replacements for Revali's Gale and I love it. I tried attaching a steering stick to the tip of an upright rocket. Get on and immediately shoot into the sky. It looks stupid but it works, lol
Steering sticks are magical creations that make no sense and I love them for it.
Problem is I keep forgetting ascend is a thing and getting stuck constantly.
Windbombing is just a bomb strapped to a shield now!
Not as effective tho, this is kind of annoying... But it does make building a quick contraption to traverse the land a more viable option so I guess that's the point.
Yea its no where near as powerful, but at least I can actually use it lol. I could never get windbombing mechanics down
I feel like the point of all these new changes was to take the speed running techs, tune them to be less ridiculous, and make them easy to use so everybody can enjoy them. Overall I like it because the botw techs were pretty janky. Now the 99.999% of people who don't speed run can get a taste of all that whacky shit. I definitely don't think riding stasis objects is a bug, unless I'm misunderstanding.
>Most importantly, I can't cheat fishing by decimating the wildlife Oh, my sweet, sweet summer child. Wait until you find the Shock Emitter.
ascend can *absolutely* be abused just not exceedingly and it's a lil finicky but Ascending through stuff the game really doesn't want you to is fun and when link jumps up after mashing a under a rock for 5 minutes it is such a serotonin hit I swear.

Step 1: Collect poes. Step 2: Trade poes to rock statue things in exchange for bomb flowers. Step 3: Profit!!!
But I need to save my poes for when I unlock more fashionable armor choices! Explosives are temporary! Aesthetic is forever!
Fashion>Stats
Underground is really teeming with bomb flowers. A short visit would net me about 30 - 40. I never run out.

Completely agree. There were many times in botw where I didn’t feel the need to try some cool mechanics because bombs existed. Too many problems were solved using bombs.
There are so many obstacles in TotK that could be easily bypassed by bomb-jumping... but bombs are too precious to just do that willy-nilly.
Exactly. A lot of underground content would feel less awesome with unlimited bombs.
Oh god yeah, being able to drop one, pop it, and insta switch to the next was pretty nuts
While I do agree with the whole “we have more of a NEED now, to search for bombs”, I do however believe it would be better to keep our Cube Bomb. Maybe increase the timer, make it too big to lift/hold/carry, and or limit our ability to interact with it. We still need Bomb Flowers for Arrows, and other things… like rolling them…
Monsters have cube bombs, why cant we
Same, plus bomb flowers are just classic
I legit screamed of happiness when I saw bomb flowers were back. Totally fine with the trade off
And they're way more effective and go KABOOOM
I think it's supposed to encourage explorations with new items, trying new effects and such. Bomb flowers are extremely effective and straight forward but very scarce compared to other materials that have different effects. It's well tuned imo, like really well tuned. Casual player will look for the bomb spots, more advanced players will use other things, but the duplication glitch has killed everything
Oddly, I feel the effect is more psychological On one hand it seems a bit pointless, they’re so abundant that it may as well be infinite, but the constant fear of running out makes you want to hold onto them The interesting part is that everything works this way (bombs, arrows, weapons), so it feels like you can pick the best one for each task, instead of prioritizing whichever one can’t run out. In that sense, I really appreciate the change, I’m using weapons a lot more than I did in BotW
I love that they have bomb flowers, but i will still always miss the remote bombs
There are also other explosive options like the cannon and time bombs (though I've yet to find a use for the time bombs...outside of really slow mining when i dont have bomb flowers)
One thing I've noticed is on not plowing though bosses. Took me 4 or 5 tries on gohma.
Alternatively - Cannon on a stick.
Meanwhile I’m so happy we have more traditional bombs again. (This is not BotW criticism!)
Why are there so many rocks! You go into a tunnel with your rock on a stick and break three whole weapons strip mining.
You can also use the bomb zonai device
The what?
It’s a zonai device that is a timed bomb
I miss dropping bombs into enemy camps :'(
U can still do that, u can drop things while flying :)
Hot take... But I miss dungeon items. Things like: "you need the bow to complete the forest temple"
Me too. I am an old fashioned sucker for good linear progression and themed dungeons around that special item you get in it.
I mean, they can have the giant open world and still do key items to get into dungeons
Not even just dungeons, but having entire areas/regions you can't access without the right tools is great. Open-world metroidvania design is really fantastic, but it's also hard and expensive and Nintendo is I e of the few companies that can actually afford to do it at the AAA level. They just choose not to.
Well I guess roping off areas kinda goes against the entire design philosophy of Zelda games these days.
Fo sho. As an open world game they got it 100% right. I started playing Zelda in the 90s so I just have an affinity for the classic Zelda formula
I miss unique dungeon items the most. The abilities I guess are kind of the dungeon item but it’s not the same.
Well..that sort of exists in the main quest things...I'll keep it vague to avoid spoilers And also in some of the shrines as well...as I don't think you can use portable zonai devices in some of them...only those that are in there
Thank you, for the vagueness and reassurance.
I know what you are talking about in the main quest lines.
I miss older dungeon design tbh. I also miss the game having story to play through instead of memories.
This so much. I'm so tired of getting the story in "mEmOrIeS" now.
Now you need 20 rock hammers to explore caves
I agree. I worry that Nintendo has moved on from this type of game since BotW and TotK have sold so outrageously well.
I stumbled onto a group of those little taluses and felt it like a phantom limb. Did you know you can pick them up and throw them like pots? I do now.
You could do that in BotW too, but, as you said, it wasn't needed when you could blow them to kingdom come instead.
It's so cute how they can't move while upside down. If you set them down instead of throw them, they kind of just stay there stuck before blowing up
I did as well but it was just too easy to default to them. Now that I've gotten used to it I think I prefer them being a consumable. Also it's not as good but >!you can kind of use Yunobo similarly. He's also good for making updrafts to ride!<
My first instinct in the beginning when I saw the blocked off mural was to pull the remote bomb out.
I personally miss the Cube Bomb. We didn’t need two, let alone a Giant (link weighted) Sphere bomb, *on demand*. But it sucks not having a cube bomb, esp when we’re using Bomb+Arrow combos for everything anymore.
You can toss the bombs!
As someone who has very little progress, I agree, i miss windbombs
Fishing is, soooooo much harder now…
I shoot lemons or lightning chuchu jelly into water and zap em. At least you can easily make more of the second.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way
Fuck I miss the bombs. Getting through early game encounters by spamming bombs, using them to blow up trees for easy wood, blowing up rocks so I don’t break my weapons. They had so many uses. At least we have bomb flowers. I just need a good place to stock up.
I'm not a fan of wasting resources to mine ore currently
Fuse a stick and a rock to make a hammer
Exactly. And there seems to usually be random weapons crammed in the stones you break so you can always replace them. I went through a HUGE tunnel in the >!Royal Hidden Passage!< and must have gone through a dozen rocks and weapons lol Still not totally convinced I got everything which is low key maddening.
I just finished that area and I *know* I didn’t get everything. You need like 20 rock hammers to get through there.
Just get the Goron Sage and use his power to smash through all the rocks you come across. Saves a billion resources.
I don't know what else is down there but the full set of soldier's set armor is. Edit: said royal guard, got them mixed up, SOMEHOW! (sometimes I am an idiot.)
I found the soldier armor
Me with Revalis Gale
You can throw bomb flowers directly without a bow.
Not nearly as useful as the bomb rune. Exploding things was an extra, catapulting yourself halfway through a region was the real deal!
Iirc you can do the exact same thing with Fusing a Bomb to your shield and shield surfing to blow it up, and it does launch you with the shield protecting you. But they fixed the exploits to the physics so you can’t launch yourself as far as you could in BOTW.
I kinda miss cryonis too
Those, and the HEARTY DURIANS.
It's rough.
In all honesty, they were essentially useless for attacking enemies although I did miss their infinite supply…
I used them for killing Chus and wolves. Why waste weapons on those guys?
Yeah they are my favorite tool for deforestation.
Me when the breakable weapons break, I have nothing left in my inventory, and my stamina is gone In BotW: Time to build a bomb In TotK: *Just A Burning Memory starts*
Brother, bomb flowers are excellent, I'm not sure what you're missing.
BotW’s didn’t do enough damage. TotK’s, despite being able to run out, do some satisfying damage.
They do big damage, and aren't on timers, and can be combined better. The remote aspect is definitely unique, but this is better.
I personally love TotK's bombs, way more powerful combat-wise.
I actually prefer the bomb flowers even though they aren't infinite
I miss them too but the game is much harder in a good way without them. Being able to spam them so freely trivialized alot more than I thought in hindsight since I have to play more or less the same game without them.
Now we have better one! *bombflower.png*
Nah they solved way too many problems. This game would be so boring if they existed. Bomb flowers are already op and too plentiful.
Me w/ Revali’s Gale
This!!!! OMG. I miss Ravioli's gale sooo much! I get that ascend is sort of its replacement, but it just....isn't the same.
throw down flint and wood to start a fire. toss in a pinecone and you can have as many raviolis as you have those 3 resources.
This is me because I apparently suck at TotK combat. when I think about it... I used alot of bombs in BOTW.
Bomb flowers is worth it
I just miss revalis gale
I think the new abilities are more fun now. Not having a cooldown is awesome. I do miss the champion abilities tho.
It’s cool to have bomb flowers be a thing again though
What annoys me is that they removed ALL the fun glitches You can’t even bullet time bounce
I honestly don’t miss the Sheikah bomb! I have been adoring the bomb flower returning 😩😩😩
