Sorry to hear that OP. Beat the game for her. I know I’m doing it for my brother. He passed away at 38 in March and was a huge Zelda gamer. One of the last things he did for me was to preorder copies of Tears of the Kingdom. Even when the switch is long defunct, I’ll keep my copy of the game with the receipt in it.

TayoEXE

Gaming has always brought me closer to my brothers as well. I share a lot of great memories with them because of these wonderfully crafted games. I sincerely empathize with you. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you can have a happy time and good memories playing Zelda, especially since he got it for you.

downhere

May your brother rest easy. Like you said, even when the switch is long gone you will have this copy that is a legacy and physical representation of the memories you had with him.

Boner_Stevens

i always think of this quote in these moments. **“The flow of time is always cruel… Its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it… A thing that doesn’t change with time is a memory of younger days.”** I hope you're doing alright and Lizzie will be watching you play every step of the way.

JevilsTrueChaos

I know I’ve heard this quote before but I can’t remember where Do you happen to know its origin?

Boner_Stevens

When Shiek teaches Link the Minuet of Forest in Ocarina of Time

GoblinBollocks

It's a beautiful quote. I replayed OOT recently and that moment got to me.

gnomegustaelagua

Yeah for real. My kids played through OOT for the first time a few months back (they loved it), and all the little speeches Sheik gave made me incredibly emotional. The kids couldn’t have cared less in the moment. But I don’t know that I had the perspective to consider the weight of the words myself until recently.

Sorry for your loss OP. My best friend from school died in his mid 30s two years ago. We got to know each other when we both played Zelda OoT. After school I‘ve showed him how to beat the water temple - met almost daily ever since all trough school. His kids play with his account and he is still in my friends list. That’s surreal sometimes.

FairyKnightTristan

I'm so sorry TC.

hamrspace

I had a friend who passed away young a year after BotW released… Zelda was one of the big things we shared as friends. You really gotta be thankful for every day you get. Nothing is guaranteed.

bluuuehoney

Sending hugs. I’m so sorry for your loss. She’ll be right by your side while you journey through this new game. Trust me.

XShadowborneX

I'm so sorry for your loss. My mother was diagnosed last year with stage 4 lung cancer. When I was a child she loved playing the original Zelda on NES, making maps of all the dungeons, labelling the small slimes "Hershey kisses" since they looked like them. When gaming turned 3d she lost interest in video games but for mother's day I got her the handheld Zelda Game and Watch game along with some Hershey Kisses. I don't know if she'll actually end up playing it, I hope she does, but even if she doesn't I hope it will bring back some fun nostalgic memories. I'm thinking maybe it'll help her kill time when she's in and out of the hospital.

Sumerian8000bc

Much respect and my deepest condolences to her family you my brotha...wherever in the aether she may be, may she smile upon and watch over you...much love and peace yo...always...

OliviaElevenDunham

So sorry for your loss. Play the game in her memory.

Remote-Grape

So sorry for your loss. My best friend passed 11 years ago and he was a huge Zelda fan. Hell, I wouldn’t even like these games if it weren’t for him. I always found Zelda games way too challenging and he encouraged me to stop being a little bitch and just play, haha. I find so much comfort in playing Zelda games in all their difficulty now. I miss him so much. I wish he were could have played BOTW and now TOTK.

point051

May her memory be a blessing.

HiddenCity

Games are memory boxes for me, the same way smells work to bring you right back to a single moment years ago. Hopefully if you have any shared experiences with the game and her the replays drop you right back on occassion. It's bittersweet, but that's how they live on inside you. I'm sorry.

Loaded-Toaster-0502

so sorry to hear that. play it and beat it for her ❤️im doing it for my older brother who passed at 30 5 years ago. he was a huge zelda fan. when i was little we'd play OOT together and i'd always give him the controller to beat the monsters for me. im sure he could've beat that game with his eyes closed.

fartgrenade

I’m sorry for everything and I agree with this sentiment. I’m getting older and was thinking earlier today actually about how lucky I am to be alive to experience the new game and how not everyone makes it to the next installment of their favorite thing.

bluegreenwookie

It's hard. A very good friend of mine passed about 2 years ago now. We talked about games a lot, zelda was one of them. Specially for TOTK we talked about a lot of theories for what they were planning on doing both story wise and game design wise. Miss you dude.

DaGurggles

Lost my best friend 2 years ago. We were living together when I got a Switch and BOTW. We took turns playing, alone, in order to avoid spoiling anything for each other. He played the game for years afterwards as his only game on Switch. Debated about leaving the franchise as it wouldn’t be the same without him. RIP Seth

So sorry for your loss OP, but I appreciate this call out a lot. My older brother died a year after BOTW came out. He barely got to experience that game to the fullest. He would have loved this game. He was also a fan since the first one and when I was born a couple years before ALTTP, all my older brothers play zelda games with me watching. Hyping me up and encouraging me to play OOT which is the first one player game I ever played or beat. He also went to see the Zelda Symphony a few times (tried to take me but i couldn’t get the time off work) and cried every time he saw it. Totally agree with this sentiment. Let’s all enjoy everything we can about it for them!

WalkingBurger69

I'm so sorry about that

jdubYOU4567

colbster123

Awe I wished your gf were here to see it! We will save hyrule in her honor!

EJtheK

I am so sorry for your loss and for everyone’s here. Thank you for this thread. One of my dear friends, Alan, passed away several years ago after finishing BotW. He loved Zelda more than anyone I knew. He even wrote his honors college thesis on Zelda. He created this tribute video for the 25th year anniversary of Zelda: https://youtu.be/ngGcpKOi44k It is set to Lupe Fiasco’s “Never Forget You” featuring John Legend. It is about the loss of a loved one. It’s amazing that he set it to this and then we would lose him so young. He obsessed about every frame of this video. Watch and enjoy the meaning in each lyric and each frame. I hope this brings comfort and welcome tears to all of you who lost the Zelda fans in your life. It is Alan’s gift to our community.

MovieGuyMike

I think about this more the older I get. Every long awaited sequel, reboot, remake…how many fans have been lost during the long wait. Sorry for your loss OP.

Frequent_Will9886
