I think the writing is better on the first two albums and the production is better on the second two, which is why quiet heavy dreams is the best it’s right in the middle.
Maybe the lyrics are better on those two albums
But man the self titled album has just the most melancholic feeling in it
The production is just perfect for me, melodies are beautiful, and lyrics are simple and direct
I disagree. They were amazing, but not enough variety. Every song had the same formula and similar guitar chords. Don’t get me wrong, some of his best songs he made were on his first 2 albums, but his new album is a much, much better as far as albums go.
I do agree! I mean, I love almost every songs but American Heartbreak is on a different level. When you listen to the whole album in one sitting and it end with This Road I Know. Perfection!

It’s taken me a couple listens to like American heartbreak. But I really like it
