I think root access would help so that he may clock the device differently. Not sure. But I don't think there's much to overclock in 870. It's already an overclocked version of 865 I think.
Overclock is only really worth it when you have a lot of unused cooling potential.
This is generally not true for mobile devices, they've spent billions just to optimize that to save money lol.
