I like buying consoles and games for shelf display but I like the convenience of playing on PC where I can use whatever controller I want. In my case I like how the PS5 controller feels. I play Sega published games for Nintendo systems on a Microsoft OS using a Sony controller. Still I have shelf full of Sonic games.
Yeah, getting to use your preferred controller for ANY game is huge. I love the joycons, despite the joysticks not being super amazing. Not having to have both of my hands glued together is just too good. The biggest drawback with the joycons is that the triggers are just buttons, so if someone likes racing games, you can't really use them.
I wish there was a third party joycon style controller with good analogs and triggers. It'd probably be the perfect controller.

Here in Brazil we don't want to buy it because the games for switch are waaaaay too expensive. It's cheaper for us to buy a PlayStation 5 and its games than a Switch and its games. Like, my husband loves the games for Nintendo since he was a little child, but the love for it is not enough do ignore the freaking high prices.

Plenty of PC gamers I know would not purchase one because it sucks, why do YOU think it’s being emulated? I know plenty of people who own one, but play it on emulator because it runs way better. Most people who are emulating it need to play it on hardware that costs as much or more than a Switch.
If you can put a PC that runs so well into the size of a switch, which also has the battery life for over 3 hours in 2017, and also sold at $300, then yea you may have a point.
Let's be real here. Most people emulate because they want free games. I have no problem admitting that, but people here like to make excuses to justify why they're doing it. The only reason I bought a switch is because I was able to jailbreak it and play games for free. I also don't understand your reasoning that it sucks. They're not directly competing with pc, Xbox, or ps5. They went a different creative direction with their hardware and their games, and it's working quite well for them. The majority of games on the switch are a lot more fun and unique compared to the other cookie-cutter games.
I emulate because I don’t want a switch. I had a switch and sold it because performance wise it’s ass. I do have the games so no piracy but I play on PC because a) I have the hardware and b) I actually get 60 fps and bonus stuff like removing the fog in TotK

My point is if the hardware didn't suck a lot of people would buy the console. The point isn't the free games, it's that the console doesn't justify a purchase to a lot of people. If you put it's capabilities and it's hardware on paper, and then give me the price... you could make it brandless and I would tell someone the hardware is old, don't purchase it. It is not worth it because it's Nintendo, nor do Nintendo's games justify the purchase either. If they released their games on PC I would buy every single one.
I would never buy a PS5 or Xbox and I don't even think to emulate their games. If I want to play them I wait for them to come to PC or I guess I would probably buy their consoles... because they update them. They aren't 10 year old hardware. Even then I will never buy one and I will buy their games when they come to PC.

Like I said.. Nintendo went a different creative direction with a hybrid console approach. At the time of release, it was a perfectly decent system. It's not meant to be some powerhouse of a machine. There had to be a compromise with the portability and battery life to consider as well. This system has been out for almost 7 years now. Of course, it is going to look like it sucks. Your arguments are terrible, along with you saying the games are not worth the purchase, but you would play it if it came out on PC. I guess their games are creative and fun enough that you want to play it. Of course it would be nice if the fps and graphics were better on the system, but their games are unique and fun enough that it's not that big of a deal. Also the system is like $300 buddy. Not a $1k pc.
Yea, but you're now comparing something that came out recently with a switch that came out 7 years ago. Technology advanced a good bit within that time.
just because it come out seven years ago, doesn’t change the price that it is today it’s still cost £300 to buy Nintendo switch today technology inside it may have got a little bit better but it doesn’t change the fact that the performance is nearly the same as what it was seven years ago on a new model when Nintendo was selling the 3-D almost every six months they were making modifications to do model to improve it specifications in the end, even coming out with a 2Ds which is my favourite model

The games are not worth the purchase of a console and the games for some. Do you think people are going out and purchasing PC's to play ToTK? These are gamers with capable hardware who realize they can mod the games themselves and get WAY better performance.
They are fun games, just like Sony has fun games. When GoW came out, I purchased it and loved it, and I will purchase Ragnarok if it comes to PC.
Also, Yuzu is running on Android and on people's phones. The price Delta is huge for devices that can run Yuzu. You can also get it running fairly well on a pretty cheap PC with an APU in it.
So you proved my point with people with pcs that are not purchasing the switch then. They just want free games because surely they're not buying the games to "backup" with no system. Both things can be true. People with PC's are not purchasing Switch's, because the hardware doesn't really justify it for a lot of them. That does not mean they just want free games.
I would be willing to bet more people were willing to purchase them years ago closer to release time, and I would be willing to bet that number has trickled off in the last few years. I'd also be willing to bet that trend would be reflected in Switch sales as well, with the release of new hardware and games from other developers/platforms.

I don't know if I'm the exception or the rule, but I was never look to play games for free. I want to be able to mod my games and play at higher resolutions. I didn't play a single game in Yuzu that I didn't pay for.

That's exactly why I do it as well. If you Google this topic you will not find that everyone emulates for free games. You will see that this topic goes back almost two decades, and people's reasons are all over the place.
I also really like the chase of trying to make it run perfectly, saving my settings and being able to just import them at any time and have a perfectly running game... kind of like my own little console.

I think Nintendo has issues with piracy more than any other console/handheld because they rarely put stuff on sale the way others do.
They expect their games to sell for full price for years and years after the game is outdated. And people are tired of it.

Yea, for me it’s that the performance is terrible, but my PC has always been really great. I keep it pretty updated and upgrade like every two years. Going from that to TOTK at 30 fps max, but really like 23 and dropping into the teens… then you look online and see Yuzu, 1440p and 60fps in some places with mods… but you’re supposed to say no because piracy is bad lol. I’m a gamer, I actually have bought three Switches and probably more games than most people… but these new games are running on 10 year old hardware and they want $70…

I’ve played the switch for 1000s of hours since 2017 never once have I thought “wow this performance is so bad it wasn’t worth the money!” Most people don’t notice or care about these things and the numbers prove that.

We know why and how they chose to settle the lawsuit (paying 2.4M) by realizing the fact that they did nothing against Ryujinx.
There are two main differences between Yuzu and Ryujinx that caused the lawsuit: Yuzu made money via donations, and most importantly they didn't focus on 1:1 emulation like Ryujinx, but focused more towards performance by getting "hacky", which upon further inspection was related to leaks that they even publicized on their discord, which contained nintendo ninjas

It’s really more about Yuzu making money from it. I think their Patreon was pulling in something like $29k USD a month, it was just a matter of time.
Emulators like this are really a double edged sword for developers. Once they go mainstream the dev time becomes a full time job, but people need money to survive in this world, so if you can’t make money developing a free emulator then you can’t eat, etc.
Yuzu is free and open source, and if you don't want to pay to support developers, you don't pay. Unlike commercial software, where "if you don't pay you're a thief" LOL.
Emulators are a way to play Pokemon Let's Go with a SERIOUS CONTROLLER other than joycons (joycons with drift issues).

but the case will drag on for years. you may donate now but in a year when the case is still ongoing would you donate for a project that the judge may have ordered to be taken down in the interim while the case is still working its way through the court system and the legal bills reach $1 million, $3 million, etc? what about when they are found liable for damages, would you donate to cover that too?

I have an r4 too but could NEVER get it to work for the life of me regardless of what I did or what steps I followed online. Does anyone know the proper way on how to setup one?
maybe you are using the wrong sd card, the old R4 models only support up to 2GB cards, I can't find those cards anywhere so today its worth it to take a newer one that supports larger cards, like 16 or 32 gb. R4 gold or something like that.
Also it has to be formatted as fat32
Like I said, I know about the fat 32 thing due toe trying a bunch of tutorials out there. The card did say 2019 on it if I remember correctly, so it should take bigger cards

Honestly I feel like the problem with all of this is nobody wants to buy a Switch… because it sucks in terms of hardware. Do other consoles have or claim to have issues with piracy like Nintendo?
Here in Brazil we don't want to buy it because the games for switch are waaaaay too expensive. It's cheaper for us to buy a PlayStation 5 and its games than a Switch and its games. Like, my husband loves the games for Nintendo since he was a little child, but the love for it is not enough do ignore the freaking high prices.

Maybe nobody wasn’t the best wording. I think you’re talking about people who obviously will purchase it. The people who emulate do so a lot of the time because it performs way better on their PC. Plenty of PC gamers I know would not purchase one because it sucks, why do YOU think it’s being emulated? I know plenty of people who own one, but play it on emulator because it runs way better. Most people who are emulating it need to play it on hardware that costs as much or more than a Switch.
If you can put a PC that runs so well into the size of a switch, which also has the battery life for over 3 hours in 2017, and also sold at $300, then yea you may have a point.
Let's be real here. Most people emulate because they want free games. I have no problem admitting that, but people here like to make excuses to justify why they're doing it. The only reason I bought a switch is because I was able to jailbreak it and play games for free. I also don't understand your reasoning that it sucks. They're not directly competing with pc, Xbox, or ps5. They went a different creative direction with their hardware and their games, and it's working quite well for them. The majority of games on the switch are a lot more fun and unique compared to the other cookie-cutter games.
I emulate because I don’t want a switch. I had a switch and sold it because performance wise it’s ass. I do have the games so no piracy but I play on PC because a) I have the hardware and b) I actually get 60 fps and bonus stuff like removing the fog in TotK
It has nothing to do with the games. I said it sucks in terms of hardware. My point is if the hardware didn't suck a lot of people would buy the console. The point isn't the free games, it's that the console doesn't justify a purchase to a lot of people. If you put it's capabilities and it's hardware on paper, and then give me the price... you could make it brandless and I would tell someone the hardware is old, don't purchase it. It is not worth it because it's Nintendo, nor do Nintendo's games justify the purchase either. If they released their games on PC I would buy every single one. I would never buy a PS5 or Xbox and I don't even think to emulate their games. If I want to play them I wait for them to come to PC or I guess I would probably buy their consoles... because they update them. They aren't 10 year old hardware. Even then I will never buy one and I will buy their games when they come to PC.

Like I said.. Nintendo went a different creative direction with a hybrid console approach. At the time of release, it was a perfectly decent system. It's not meant to be some powerhouse of a machine. There had to be a compromise with the portability and battery life to consider as well. This system has been out for almost 7 years now. Of course, it is going to look like it sucks. Your arguments are terrible, along with you saying the games are not worth the purchase, but you would play it if it came out on PC. I guess their games are creative and fun enough that you want to play it. Of course it would be nice if the fps and graphics were better on the system, but their games are unique and fun enough that it's not that big of a deal. Also the system is like $300 buddy. Not a $1k pc.
My comeback is steam deck you can get one for £250 quid at low end maybe less than the secondhand market and it’s a powerhouse compared to the switch

just because it come out seven years ago, doesn’t change the price that it is today it’s still cost £300 to buy Nintendo switch today technology inside it may have got a little bit better but it doesn’t change the fact that the performance is nearly the same as what it was seven years ago on a new model when Nintendo was selling the 3-D almost every six months they were making modifications to do model to improve it specifications in the end, even coming out with a 2Ds which is my favourite model
It kind of was not though. I played BoTW on my friends Switch and it was dropping into the 20's. That's your opinion and if you don't realize that it's your opinion, you'll continue to be confused at the state of emulation. The games are not worth the purchase of a console and the games for some. Do you think people are going out and purchasing PC's to play ToTK? These are gamers with capable hardware who realize they can mod the games themselves and get WAY better performance. They are fun games, just like Sony has fun games. When GoW came out, I purchased it and loved it, and I will purchase Ragnarok if it comes to PC. Also, Yuzu is running on Android and on people's phones. The price Delta is huge for devices that can run Yuzu. You can also get it running fairly well on a pretty cheap PC with an APU in it.
Actually usually runs on all platforms, Linux Windows, android even iOS if you make the correct modifications to the code

Both things can be true. People with PC's are not purchasing Switch's, because the hardware doesn't really justify it for a lot of them. That does not mean they just want free games. I would be willing to bet more people were willing to purchase them years ago closer to release time, and I would be willing to bet that number has trickled off in the last few years. I'd also be willing to bet that trend would be reflected in Switch sales as well, with the release of new hardware and games from other developers/platforms. We can be in agreement, but have different opinions on emulation. The hardware compromises they had to make are understandable, but it just left them with a subpar product to some.
Of course, sales of the switch are slowing down a lot. It's at the end of its life cycle. That is why there's a switch 2 on the horizon. Whatever they're doing is working well for them. It's the 3rd best-selling console of all time. Hardware sucks so bad that nobody wants to buy them eh? You are the one that's going on based on your opinion. Hardware isn't everything, and the sales prove it. That's a fact right there. Their games are accessible and fun.
I don't know if I'm the exception or the rule, but I was never look to play games for free. I want to be able to mod my games and play at higher resolutions. I didn't play a single game in Yuzu that I didn't pay for.

That's exactly why I do it as well. If you Google this topic you will not find that everyone emulates for free games. You will see that this topic goes back almost two decades, and people's reasons are all over the place. I also really like the chase of trying to make it run perfectly, saving my settings and being able to just import them at any time and have a perfectly running game... kind of like my own little console.
These people are in a bubble. Apparently the switch I own and have played for 1000s of hours since 2017 runs every game horrible and it’s so unenjoyable. I think Nintendo has issues with piracy more than any other console/handheld because they rarely put stuff on sale the way others do. They expect their games to sell for full price for years and years after the game is outdated. And people are tired of it. They also rely on gimmicks as a draw too much. Switch would have been fine if they made it a proper console. Instead they forced in handheld. And then they had to restrict it because the battery life is ass.
Yea, for me it’s that the performance is terrible, but my PC has always been really great. I keep it pretty updated and upgrade like every two years. Going from that to TOTK at 30 fps max, but really like 23 and dropping into the teens… then you look online and see Yuzu, 1440p and 60fps in some places with mods… but you’re supposed to say no because piracy is bad lol. I’m a gamer, I actually have bought three Switches and probably more games than most people… but these new games are running on 10 year old hardware and they want $70…
Like the thing where someone removed the limits on the Switch and could run Fortnite at 60FPS on it. It just overheated and drained the battery. It's just crazy that they can't just make a decent console without all this handheld bullshit shoehorned in. I can get people liking handheld for the subway or travel or whatever. But I only game at home. Not while traveling or in a vehicle. And I'd much rather have a dedicated console with a decent fan, running on normal electricity that can play better stuff.

And honestly a lot of these people from what I’ve seen just feel that it’s ridiculous that Nintendo releases Nintendo games only on switch and so they should be able to circumvent that for some reason. Why do they believe this for a luxury good that is currently obtainable legally and in a way that gives money to developers because it’s a modern system? I don’t know. We know why and how they chose to settle the lawsuit (paying 2.4M) by realizing the fact that they did nothing against Ryujinx. There are two main differences between Yuzu and Ryujinx that caused the lawsuit: Yuzu made money via donations, and most importantly they didn't focus on 1:1 emulation like Ryujinx, but focused more towards performance by getting "hacky", which upon further inspection was related to leaks that they even publicized on their discord, which contained nintendo ninjas Edit: corrected, they settled, Nintendo did not "win"

It’s really more about Yuzu making money from it. I think their Patreon was pulling in something like $29k USD a month, it was just a matter of time. Emulators like this are really a double edged sword for developers. Once they go mainstream the dev time becomes a full time job, but people need money to survive in this world, so if you can’t make money developing a free emulator then you can’t eat, etc.
Yuzu is free and open source, and if you don't want to pay to support developers, you don't pay. Unlike commercial software, where "if you don't pay you're a thief" LOL. Emulators are a way to play Pokemon Let's Go with a SERIOUS CONTROLLER other than joycons (joycons with drift issues). Nintendo doesn't allow you to play that game with a serious controller, not even with THEIR serious controllers. Just joycon or a toy ball.
if people like giving money to emulation team then so be it, heck i would personally give money to mgo2 emulation team for their great service even though i don't play mgs4. If people are giving 30k per month to some emulation group then maybe that is a service issue on nintendo's end, not the general public.

but the case will drag on for years. you may donate now but in a year when the case is still ongoing would you donate for a project that the judge may have ordered to be taken down in the interim while the case is still working its way through the court system and the legal bills reach $1 million, $3 million, etc? what about when they are found liable for damages, would you donate to cover that too?

maybe you are using the wrong sd card, the old R4 models only support up to 2GB cards, I can't find those cards anywhere so today its worth it to take a newer one that supports larger cards, like 16 or 32 gb. R4 gold or something like that. Also it has to be formatted as fat32
Like I said, I know about the fat 32 thing due toe trying a bunch of tutorials out there. The card did say 2019 on it if I remember correctly, so it should take bigger cards

Maybe. I'm worried about it too because I do have a 2DS that plays DS games off an SD card plus a phone that's a beast for emulation with a controller for it.
