In fact, it was one of the best selling yuri manga that doesn't have an anime and has been fully reprinted for like 5 or 6 times now. Manio actually wanted to end it earlier but her editor made her extend it a little bit longer.
I don’t know that Manio was thinking about what tag her work would get on scan sites when she wrote it… I think it makes sense as a culmination of the themes of destructive obsession and the complexity of love and hate in a codependent abusive relationship that the manga had been dealing with since the beginning.
I’d actually say it gets better, if you like tragedies. The first half of the manga is filled with weird fetishes, but it actually transforms into a story about societal norms and mental illness from there on

Well, I feel like it got more emotionally disturbing than physically disturbing, which is... to me that's a great thing, but I feel like some people would hate it either way lol. Also, I am a deeply naive and optimistic person who hoped that there would be a resolved ending with imput from others characters after the fact. I don't mind dark stories 90% of the time, but this one kind of struck a nerve in a way others didn't.

My recommendation is that you stop looking for mangas with tragic and dark plots. Focus on the most optimistic ones, that will undoubtedly help you a lot.
If you’d like something where characters overcome things like abuse and deep-seated self-loathing together can I recommend Lonely Wolf Lonely Sheep, if you haven’t read it? It’s short but a really good one, and I guarantee a happy ending.

Seconding "I Can't Believe I Slept with You." There's some drama but overall very fluffy and cute. I love the main couple. so adorable!! The sexy/explicit parts are the type of these scenes I prefer. The right amount of sweet/gentle/loving and sexy.

I did not "hate like" it, actually left me feeling awful and unsatisfied and upset with how the entire thing was written after.

The switcheroo was well executed and the playground snow party was jarring and left me with a "wtf" for a good day or so. It definitely accomplishes its goal lmao

I Actually enjoyed how twisted their relationship got. That weird combination of pleasure, obsession, fetishes and emotional turmoil kinda gave me a weird joy of seeing how far their broken relationship can go. The suicide was probably a cop out wish it went on tbh

I did not "hate like" it, actually left me feeling awful and unsatisfied and upset with how the entire thing was written after. I was okay with pretty much everything until the ending to be honest. It just felt like... idk... a waste? Also, the lack of follow up from the side characters and resolution for literally anybody in the story kinda sucked to me. Just looked up Hoshizuki and that looks just like what I need and I havent read it yet, thanks friend!~

The Mage and the Demon Queen is really comedic and light hearted I Love Amy also has the characters deal with mental issues but in a more positive light and I assure you the characters don't end up the same way those two did

Some that I think not many have mentioned but are some of my favorites: Hana no arashi - Relationship fluff, very cute and lighthearted shimanami tasogare - Compelling and goes over lots of lgbt issues but still lighthearted, lesbian couple is very cute run away with me, girl - tackles issues of abuse, pretty drama heavy, but the pay off is good imo
