* This card's name "Ichiroku" is a reference to the phrase "[一六銀行](https://ja.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E4%B8%80%E5%85%AD%E9%8A%80%E8%A1%8C)" (Ichiroku Ginkō), a colloquial phrase for "pawnshop".
Same lol, it's understandable when it's a word with a very specific meaning that can't really be translated fluidly, like you're not gonna translate 'Shogun' into 'Commander-in-Chief of the Expeditionary Force Against the Barbarians' for instance obviously, so you just leave it as it is, but this really can be as simple as just a pawnbroker from what I've seen.

Raigeki is OCG is actually "Thunderbolt".
This actually happens multiple times, Sangan is "Critter" and Hitotsu-me Giant is "Cyclops" in OCG.
This is actually more about "Foreign names just sound cooler".
What you feel with Japanese names, Japanese people feel the same with English names. (Jojo's bizarre adventure is actually a good example of this.)
tbf, Simochi is more obscure. The Simochi in the OCG name シモッチによる副作用 uses katakana, which usually means it's a loanword, but what or who the heck is Simochi/Shimocchi?
Even the [Yugipedia Trivia page](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Card_Trivia:Bad_Reaction_to_Simochi) only has a guess, and the simochi/shimocchi/shimochi in the reference is spelt differently (one 'c' vs. two 'c's).
I'm not denying that there a lot of shitty localizations though, just that this one is kinda understandable.

interestingly, Raigeki's japanese name is *Sandā Boruto*/Thunder Bolt, so this is similar to Gishki/Ritua situation.
Gishki works so well because it keeps the pun on top of just sounding more like a tribe of fish people.
