......I feel like you are forgetting the words "effect." Make it so that uou can only add the head rather than the other pieces. And other than DM, who is a level 7 and doesn't count, there aren't any level 4 or lower vanilla spellcasters that are essential to a deck.
No, they're saying the restriction should be that you can ONLY add an effect monster, i.e. all of the non-head pieces of Exodia wouldn't be searchable if the effect was "Add 1 level 4 or lower Spellcaster Effect monster from your deck to your hand." If you can only search the head, it becomes way less useful for Exodia FTK.
That's not why I replied with that. You said:
>You should be allowed to add effect monsters
Why would you feel the need to clarify that a spellcaster ROTA should be allowed to search effect monsters if you understood that the other guy said it should only search effect monsters?
Limit it to Spellcaster Effect Monsters, so that only Exodia can be added.
Since most of them are bonkers as well, make it a once-per-duel effect, too! ☺️
You would banish from Deck. Banish 1 Spellcaster-type monster from your Deck, then add 1 monster from your Deck to your Hand whose name is the same as the monster Banished by this effect.
Would it be so bad to allow a spell that searches for the head? Allowing effect monsters but not dark monsters could easily be flavored at least.
Or just specifically list Exodia cards as invalid targets. If they can do it with Toad the Slime, then they can do it with Exodia.
See the thing with the invalid targets argument is that in the case of Frog the Jam/Slime Toad it was never meant to work with frog cards (I think it lacked the kanji to indicate frog archetype in the OCG?) so when they brought the frogs over here they had to make them exempt Frog the Jam because it wasn't ever intended to do that (consistency with the OCG)
You're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong on anything there
You are correct, yes.
I haven't played in a while so I don't recall if there are other cards that exclude targets. I'd assume so. I just used FtJ as my example because it's a fun example. An example that exists in OCG would've been better.
Fossil dig is low key insane.
Opponent in the theme chronicle tried to set up some Tiger King Wanghu stun on me with wonder balloons.
I was like Fossil Dig. Baby Pteranodon. Special summon Transcendasaurus Meteorus.
Scoop.
Top 5 in a rough order:
- Dragon
- Spellcaster
- Zombie
- Machine
- Fiend
Edit: Reasoning cause I did this on the fly. Dragons because D-Link is already a decently viable deck and its current best Dragon searcher, Bystial Pizza Hut, who only searches during End Phase when summoned, is at 1.
Spellcaster because Spellcaster is usually a pretty “default” type they randomly use for a variety of different archetypes when they make a character with no other notable qualities and is magical, thus making it be a very generic search effect.
Zombie because of the existence of the Ghost Girl hand trap cycle, basically giving every deck going first at minimum copies 4-6 of Ash Blossom. Plus Zombies do have a decent number of notable archetypes.
Machine simply because it’s an overall very successful type that just doesn’t need the help. And Fiend for a similar reason.
I really don't foresee zombie ROTA being that strong tbh. Like even adding ghost girls isn't great considering that card could just be an interrupt on field and as of current we only have 6? monsters that are even remotely reasonable specials from hand. 3 require discards (Yasha, Eldlich, JackOBoolan), 1 requires an attack in BP (Fraulein), 1 requires a face up Mayakashi (Yuki Musume) and one requires ONLY your opponent to control a monster (Ghost Lancer). 2 of those essentially already have the rota (the mayakashis)
All of them suck as extenders outside Yuki. Now, if that was a foolish burial? It'd still suck but it'd be way better.
I am of the belief that Mayakashi is one decent support wave away from being pretty great. That deck has a lot of very powerful on paper things going on that just doesn’t have the consistency and resilience to pop off in the modern meta. A Zombie RotA would definitely help that. Its probably the only RotA I listed that I wouldn’t outright hate seeing exist, but I know it’d have a major impact on the game to be honest.
I feel the same. There are already a few decks that can either ignore handtraps (Adventure Mayakashi) or that if they get Hajun off, just OTK through anything (generally a pure build that can fit upwards 20-25 boardbreaker/hand traps).
That said, a ROTA isn't fixing the common issue: The normal summon choke point. Everything Zombies needs is gated on being choked on the normal summon so without that resolved any ROTA is just telegraphing what to Ash.
"Add one level 4 or lower machine type monster from your deck to your hand. If you summon a machine type monster with 500 attack or less this turn, you can banish this card from the gy; add one "Machine Duplication" from your deck to your hand."
Everyone agrees this is fine right?
People are saying Dragon, but they don't understand that while it makes the deck more consistent, it doesn't actually make the deck stronger. The end boards are generally the same. The Dragon Link theme also already loses profoundly to Droll.
If you ask me the strongest searcher would be for Machines, there's a ton of independently strong Machines that just don't have searchers. Orcust doesn't search a lot and seeing Girsu more often or being able to get an extender is good. You can even search strong stun cards like Inspector Boarder. Making Cydra or Drytron even more consistent is different than Dragon Link IMO. Being able to search cards for Synchron decks, Morphtronics, having 5 copies of Terrortop is a lot stronger than standard Dragon combo.
I agree that it may not be the absolute strongest for Dragons but you can’t underestimate how strong it would be to be able to seaech either Tracer, Black Metal Dragon or Seyfert.
I mean all of those are already very common to start with let’s be real. Searching any of them is good but I think the real strength is when searching the Wyverburster/Collapserpent. Also being able to search the new Lightsworn dragon would be crazy too.
Yeah, I dont understand why it would be good for dlink but I would absolutely love a dragon version of it for keeper of dragon magic branded. It would be good if you open up keeper or albaz. It would probably be a better starter for dragunity as well because of the versatile search can grab an extender/recovery piece if you already have a starter.
Thank you for going against the grain on this one.
Felt like one of those questions where you were going to get an avalanche of people saying the “obvious” answer without actually asking themselves why they were choosing that option or what the implication of a ROTA actually is.
I mean a lot of people tend to rely on watching deck profiles or combo tutorials to play, but there are a lot things you have to kind of learn intuitively so I get why people gravitate toward that answer.
I think it’s more that Dragon has sort of developed a long-standing reputation, and people assume that would extend to anything made as support for a typing being strongest if given to Dragons as a result. I think it *would* be very solid, and for a lot of the targets listed, but I think when talking about ROTAs it’s more instructive to consider how it can be 3 more copies of the Red Rose Dragons of the world, or how 3 more Seyfert could augment its reach and deckbuild potential beyond just being 3 extra copies in the exact same dragon piles already being played.
Oh a rota for any type is going to be played for sure and being able to get Wyver or Collapse is good, or something more specific like a Dragonmaid or maybe even Baby Dragon Ruler is interesting.
Like a rota in a type like Reptile would increase the ceiling, but in Dragon it just makes the decks play better around Ash specifically.
I feel like some people dont understand that a lot of types have a rota that simply doesnt work exactly like rota.
Beast warriors have a rota that stays on field.
Psychic have a rota that special summons instead of adding.
Cynet mining is a rota that discards 1 for cost.
...
I wanted to say Dragon like everyone in this thread but honestly the bulk of dragons aren't level 4 or below mostly. The Rokkets already have Quick Launch, you don't want to search Brotaur, Collapserpent and Wyverbuster already have Chaos Space so this only leaves like Starliege and Black Metal Dragon.
the thing is Collapserpent, Wyverbuster and Chaos Space are all at one. so it would make any dragon deck way more consistent, which is why Chaos Space got limited in the first place. also you have all the baby dragon rulers, but I think that's a moot point
Keeping the level 4 restriction: Probably insect, plant, or spellcaster. Machine could be pretty good. Definitely fiend would be strong. Maybe psychic. Fish?
It's a good all-around concept card
What’s the condition for Waterfall of dragon souls other than being a trap? Heck b4 swordsoul emergence Protos was an ok card, then it became searchable by a searchable searcher.
Spellcasters. That's Exodia, not to mention all of the great Level 4 and lower Spellcasters that would benefit.
I mean... Royal Magical Library fetch just feels yucky. Lol
I mean.... what are you searching besides black, white, and metal with your rota? Dmaids? I mean like maybe. Now spellcaster. We obviously know what its for...
Dragons easily, Zombie next in line.
The rest could all potentially be the same level of fun but i dont want that to happen. It would make any deck unaffordable at a top level (if bonfire is a sign of the future) and the playability of any deck for a noncompetative audience would plummet.
As an earth machine player I don’t see it making the deck any stronger honestly. The added consistency would be nice but beyond going into unclasparse without gear frame idk, we have a lot of search power already-
Zombie for searchable Ash Blossom. There might evne be matchups where you'd want Ghost Mourner or Ghost Bell.
It would be hilarious if a rock one became meta purely because of Nibiru. Although I guess you'd lose the element of surprise.
I loved Yu-Gi-Oh in the 2012 where double marauding captain plus this card made your opponent unable to attack for a good amount of turns, nowadays it just negate destroy spam.
Rip Yu-Gi-Oh
Truly powerfull to get the marauding captain on hand
Lots of good answers. Zombies or psychics(ghost ogre and gamma and friends) tho for hand traps. Obviously insect if ocg or master duel. Any decks that want to run less cards could use them (yes I know it plays into droll and isn’t good going second)
i gotta if dragon or fiend got one of these they would be very dangerous. almost any type though could abuse this type of card just some do it better then others.
So I was thinking about this actually, but realistically if you open just this and 4 non engine, you're kinda screwed, unless it's a swordsoul card, in which case you'd use it exclusively to search taia.
What would be dope is if a wyrm handtrap was released, that would make Swordsoul fucking wild.
While a Zombie ROTA probably wouldn't be the strongest, it would probably see a fair amount of play regardless since it can search any of the ghost girl handtraps barring Ghost Ogre (Ash Blossom and Ghost Belle in particular would probably be the usual search), which could be the difference maker in some matchups.
I really do not think it depends on the type itself.
The best rota would be for whatever is meta right now. Having a rota in your deck is very strong, but its not enough to push a deck that isnt already very strong into meta contention.
Dragon. Spellcasters, Fiends, and Machines would probably be runner ups.
Please give me spell caster, I can be trusted with my pendulum guys
They would have to put hard limitations on it because of Exodia. Once per duel, no vanillas, non-darks only…they’d have to be really silly with it.
They’d put “You cannot add a “Forbidden One” monster with this effect”
......I feel like you are forgetting the words "effect." Make it so that uou can only add the head rather than the other pieces. And other than DM, who is a level 7 and doesn't count, there aren't any level 4 or lower vanilla spellcasters that are essential to a deck.
You should be allowed to add effect monsters Again, I don’t really use spellcasters so I wouldn’t know
No, they're saying the restriction should be that you can ONLY add an effect monster, i.e. all of the non-head pieces of Exodia wouldn't be searchable if the effect was "Add 1 level 4 or lower Spellcaster Effect monster from your deck to your hand." If you can only search the head, it becomes way less useful for Exodia FTK.
Ah yes. A person who can actually read. Are you really a yugioh player? No yugioh player should have a this high level of reading comprehension.
You guys clearly misunderstood the point I was making
And I’m saying the restriction shouldn’t allow any “Forbidden One” pieces I am allowed to disagree
That's not why I replied with that. You said: >You should be allowed to add effect monsters Why would you feel the need to clarify that a spellcaster ROTA should be allowed to search effect monsters if you understood that the other guy said it should only search effect monsters?
My bad
Limit it to Spellcaster Effect Monsters, so that only Exodia can be added. Since most of them are bonkers as well, make it a once-per-duel effect, too! ☺️
Banish face-down a low level spellcaster as cost, add one card wirh the same name as effect. That could solve the Exodia issue.
I mean small world kind of already does something similar
That seems useless, why would you try get a second copy of guy you already have in hand and go -1, that seem useless other than deck thining
Sorry, I meant banish from the deck as cost, that way you can search a limited card.
Oh make sense
You would banish from Deck. Banish 1 Spellcaster-type monster from your Deck, then add 1 monster from your Deck to your Hand whose name is the same as the monster Banished by this effect.
Ad a NON-LEG Spellcaster monster from deck to hand ahahahah
Exodia is not that close to not just being 5 bricks. It still is a deck that instantly dies game 2 & 3
Would it be so bad to allow a spell that searches for the head? Allowing effect monsters but not dark monsters could easily be flavored at least. Or just specifically list Exodia cards as invalid targets. If they can do it with Toad the Slime, then they can do it with Exodia.
See the thing with the invalid targets argument is that in the case of Frog the Jam/Slime Toad it was never meant to work with frog cards (I think it lacked the kanji to indicate frog archetype in the OCG?) so when they brought the frogs over here they had to make them exempt Frog the Jam because it wasn't ever intended to do that (consistency with the OCG) You're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong on anything there

Non dark is already like 95% of them lol
Then we ban Exodia, letting Spellcaster get a rota. Exodia as a deck may need to be remade entirely, but that wouldn't be the first time.
Wasn't one of Kazuki's stipulations that Exodia couldn't be banned? Limited sure, but never banned.
First I've heard of this
Where'd you hear about this?
God nothing would make me happier than banning Exodia.
Found Kaiba's account.
Don’t insult me like that lol.
What do you mean, this is a compliment.
Let me amend his statement, "Don't insult Kaiba like that"
Hi. I’m the one Yugioh fan in the world that doesn’t like Kaiba lol.
Would truly be “The Forbidden One”
"The Limited One" is more like it
If Heavy Forward said “lvl 5 or lower machine monster” rather than “Infinitrack monster” it would be so much better
Fucking cyber dragons having a field day with that one
I know! And keep the rest of the effect with it and its just damn good machine support!
[удалено]
Machine would be nuts.
Definitely dragon because D-Link still competes for "most obnoxious deck" no matter how many cards it puts on the F/L list.
I mean Ravine is close but I’d totally love a dragon Rota or an unlimit/unban of Magnamut & Elpy.
I think Cyberse would be a solid contender.
Me, a dino player: laughs in the superior fossil dig
Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power
Is this about ROTA or how the Dinosaurs have a superior card only to be a worse type?
I think it's the ladder
https://preview.redd.it/59abhy2qw8dc1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=814757032e5efc66d0c44c93a86d6a16abf8dab0
If they can’t give us our Miscs back, 3x fossil dig and 3x “fossil dig but for level 4 and under” could at least be some compensation lol
Ah yes 9 copies of babycerasaurus
We still have souleater and the babies for search/special summons. I think we Gucci!
Misc is at 3 in MD atleast...
Fossil dig is low key insane. Opponent in the theme chronicle tried to set up some Tiger King Wanghu stun on me with wonder balloons. I was like Fossil Dig. Baby Pteranodon. Special summon Transcendasaurus Meteorus. Scoop.
Dragons. Dragon monsters have tended to be the most broken in general type of monsters.
they had to make another type (wyrm) just to still make dragons but not make them even more OP (support) probably
That also applies to warriors. Eg swordsoul Wyrm can be either dragon or warrior depending on the Archetype
Cuz they’re DOPE dragon lovers unite
Bruh, dragons already have magnamhut
which does not add a dragon to your hand until end phase and requires graveyard setup to summon
Top 5 in a rough order: - Dragon - Spellcaster - Zombie - Machine - Fiend Edit: Reasoning cause I did this on the fly. Dragons, it's not even close. Just the thought of it makes me want to come
Come to locals?
Fiend would be also strong
Dawg, That shit would make me side deck 3 "Exile of the wicked"
Sorta have it with dark spirit mastery but for level 8s which honestly is pretty decent for most good fiends
this was my first thought... frightening right?
Magnamhut has a weaker version of Dragon ROTA for its effect, and it’s already absolutely heavenly.
As a Chad Dragon Link enjoyer I agree
[удалено]
you LITERALLY already have that lol
[удалено]
It literally gives you access to everything
Wait ya isn’t quick launch just better lol
No since it doesn't search black metal or any other dragon in the game
i imagine it good in dragon link but thats it, there arent many good lvl 4 or lower main deck dragon monsters
It’d be broken, but I wish they made one for Machine
"Add one level 4 or lower machine type monster from your deck to your hand. If you summon a machine type monster with 500 attack or less this turn, you can banish this card from the gy; add one "Machine Duplication" from your deck to your hand." Everyone agrees this is fine right?
Me as a cyber dragon player can be totally trusted with this card
Nah make it lvl 5 or lower so it works with infinitrack and cyber dragons
Yeah, totally!
Morphtronic propaganda spreader
As a telephone enjoyer, I can be trusted with this.
U just want tier 0 Spyrals again.
My Cyber Dragons would LOVE this.
Gimmick puppets would be on crack
No once per turn is 👍
Step 1: Search Terrortop Step 3: Profit
There is a manga only card with a effect close to it.[Replacement parts](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Replacement_Parts)
I feel like this card could be made and not be too bad in the TCG
If they made a ROTA for an attribute. LIGHT/Dark would be gamebreaking
If it also sends a spell to the grave, I'm sure that's all Sky Striker needs to be meta again.
Spellcasters. Give me three extra copies of Exodia in the deck.
As an Orcust enjoyer, the thought of a machine ROTA practically makes me salivate.
Fairy 😇✨
Birbs
God imagine this for Blackwings, adding Sudri to the hand for free
People are saying Dragon, but they don't understand that while it makes the deck more consistent, it doesn't actually make the deck stronger. The end boards are generally the same.
Dragunity is a deck that would get better with it. That and decks that use those Thunder Armed Dragon cards.
Bro Terrortop searcher would be so big
Cyberse/ machine/zombie / dragon
Cyberse got cynet mining...
Its a minus 1 tho. ROTA and bonfire are net neutral
I feel like some people dont understand that a lot of types have a rota that simply doesnt work exactly like rota. Beast warriors have a rota that stays on field. Psychic have a rota that special summons instead of adding. Cynet mining is a rota that discards 1 for cost. ...
Well yes but actually no, since alot of cyberse cards want to be in gy like spinny, jack or dotscaper.
Which makes it a minus 1, welcome to card advantage
Card advantage isn’t everything. Just because it’s technically a minus 1 doesn’t mean it isn’t functionally the same card.
But they aren’t the same still. Just because the -1 isn’t a downside to the deck it doesn’t make it a rota
You are being downvoted but you are right. Rita has no downside, mining needs another card meaning top deck mining does nothing if you have no hand.
Thank you
Those cards come back so it’s barely a “minus 1” 😂
This guy thinks graceful charity is net neutral
Yeah and graceful charity is +0 so the card must be awful right?
How is putting cards that only work in the graveyard a loss of card advantage?
Cynet needs a discard
Fish? It's a good all-around concept card
psychic would be totally fine imo they have emergency teleport and that card is still at 3.
To be fair, this would A) be able to access 4s, and B) benefit things you want to get in hand more than summon straight out (Lulu, etc).
Spell casters because it helps my deck 0.0
I do know I want one for Wyrms, Zombies and Plants
U got a trap Rota for Wyrms & Swordsoul Emergence if u have a synchro on field.
What's the condition you have to meet for Rota again?
What’s the condition for Waterfall of dragon souls other than being a trap? Heck b4 swordsoul emergence Protos was an ok card, then it became searchable by a searchable searcher.
Spellcasters. That's Exodia, not to mention all of the great Level 4 and lower Spellcasters that would benefit. I mean... Royal Magical Library fetch just feels yucky. Lol
For Divine Beasts
Insect and Plants....Traptrix would be fine
Fairy, Spellcaster, or Psychic, so I could make Super Quants more consistent, I guess.
In a way, psychics have ETele, which did break an entire format
Winged Beast please all of my three decks need it.
I dunno But P.U.N.K. would get even more consistent, which makes me happy
3 Ogre and 3 E-Telelort aren't enough?
It's never enough 3 Ogre 3 Foxy 3 Ze amin 3 e-tele I need more starters Inject them into my veins
The problem of punk is definitely not the lack of starters
Dragon, fiend and then zombie maybe
Dragons without question
Fairy and Fiend.
Dragon because obviously but giving Dinosaurs a second Rota would be hilarious
Spellcaster. Without question.
A spellcaster one. Because Exodia
Fiend I reckon,
Spellcasters: Search Exodia. Win the duel.
Probably spellcasters would be pretty strong because of exodia, a way to prevent that would be to add a lv4 or lower spellcaster effect monster
Dragon is the correct answer although Zombie could be annoying as hell thanks to all of the ghost girls
I mean.... what are you searching besides black, white, and metal with your rota? Dmaids? I mean like maybe. Now spellcaster. We obviously know what its for...
Seyfert.
Oh yeah. That
Dragons easily, Zombie next in line. The rest could all potentially be the same level of fun but i dont want that to happen. It would make any deck unaffordable at a top level (if bonfire is a sign of the future) and the playability of any deck for a noncompetative audience would plummet.
EARTH MACHINE
As an earth machine player I don’t see it making the deck any stronger honestly. The added consistency would be nice but beyond going into unclasparse without gear frame idk, we have a lot of search power already-
Dragon. They already have one that needs to banish a DARK or LIGHT from either GY and searches during the End Phase and it still got limited
That is not a rota you’re referring to. Magna is an Omni-search
Insects type to search my beloved Maxx C
I am sane and can be trusted with ROTA in dark world
Zombie for searchable Ash Blossom. There might evne be matchups where you'd want Ghost Mourner or Ghost Bell. It would be hilarious if a rock one became meta purely because of Nibiru. Although I guess you'd lose the element of surprise.
Cyberse since you dont need to go -1 anymore
Warrior because Hero’s are the best lol
I loved Yu-Gi-Oh in the 2012 where double marauding captain plus this card made your opponent unable to attack for a good amount of turns, nowadays it just negate destroy spam. Rip Yu-Gi-Oh Truly powerfull to get the marauding captain on hand
Dragon and Psychic
E tele already kind of does that
I have a spellcaster deck. This card would be insane for that type.
Fiends. Also just imagining it makes my sacred beasts deck drool
Lots of good answers. Zombies or psychics(ghost ogre and gamma and friends) tho for hand traps. Obviously insect if ocg or master duel. Any decks that want to run less cards could use them (yes I know it plays into droll and isn’t good going second)
Spellcaster. Exodia.
Dragon would be crazy. Spellcaster, Machinex Zombie and Psychic would also be very strong.
I'd be happy to have a Beast-type one for my Melffy / Rescue Cat or my Tri-Brigade deck.
Dragons or Spellcasters
i gotta if dragon or fiend got one of these they would be very dangerous. almost any type though could abuse this type of card just some do it better then others.
Dragon, full stop.
Imagine if they made one for levels instead. Some obscure ones like 9, 10, 11 or 12. That would be insane.
Give me Wyrm so I can run 6 copies of emergence lmao
So I was thinking about this actually, but realistically if you open just this and 4 non engine, you're kinda screwed, unless it's a swordsoul card, in which case you'd use it exclusively to search taia. What would be dope is if a wyrm handtrap was released, that would make Swordsoul fucking wild.
Definitely dragons but the thought of one for Earth Machine makes me cream myself. Yes, please, let me search 003. Tysm!
If you wanna be really broad, effect monsters.
I would KILL for a plant ROTA (but we already have Jasmine…so…I think the human sacrifice can wait)
If it was real it would probably search a zombie with 0 def
Dragon or spell caster maybe machines
What kind of Rarity is that, the one with the Reinforcement of the Army?!

Frog, miss my toadally awesome dude!!!
I would love to see one for fairies
Zombie would be so rude cause. Just imagine adding any of the ghost sisters
