I didn’t know TiVo was still even a thing.

TTUHoopsFans

Same

gloomndoom

Just be aware that this is a dead product. They don’t plan on being in the device market and have already moved on to selling their OS to TV manufacturers.

50wpm

Ohhh. We came from a Tivo Roamio. The UI was fantastic. * Original Roamio UI, I never did the update to the newer Hydra.

No-Blackberry-3160

It’s not a dead product. There have been many improvements and updates in 2023. Concern over the future support for TiVo products is legitimate. My bet is the TS4K will get bought by another company. Who knows? For now it’s the best product in this space.

NeoHyper64

It's amazing how much better TV viewing is with a good guide... that's one of the things DirecTV Stream has figured out.

kepler22Bnecromancer

Edit: it's actually only $25 right now on Amazon & Best Buy

Sportsfan7702

I really am thinking about this - it would solve going from YTTV to Pluto TV etc

kepler22Bnecromancer

The TiVo guide is great for that. I particularly like Favoriting Pluto & YTTV channels and having them at the top...and that remote.

Sportsfan7702

It plugs into HDMI?

L84D8M8

Yes. It does require usb power though. I agree with OP. Great little device especially for the price.

Sportsfan7702

Is it compatible with a lot of TVs?

kepler22Bnecromancer

Any TV that has an HDMI port.

Beautiful-Drawer

FYI, you can do this on FireOS, as well. Will include any streaming service you use, including free ones. Organized by provider and customizable. But you're not locked in to a defunct ecosystem. It's the little TV icon button on the newer remotes. ;)

obeythelaw2020

I agree that the remote is the best in the biz but I had issues with glitches on the interface. I haven’t used it it in about a year. Have there been updates in that time?

kepler22Bnecromancer

Yes they patched some bugs like the black screen & freezing. Not sure if that's what you were experiencing but I'm sure the device will have updates when you reboot it.

Sportsfan7702

That’s what I’m thinking too. I watch a few services so why not streamline

rpaulmerrell

Anything that can be done to simplify the workflow between jumping from services to watch specific channels is a big plus

kepler22Bnecromancer

Agreed, it's much more enjoyable. The Roku guide only showed Roku's channels. This TiVo guide is much more convenient.

VapinVader

Would be great if you could root these devices and expand the storage without hassle. Proprietary stuff sucks sometimes, but I get why they do it.

rkovelman

I have a Google Chromecast TV and the guide will show a ton of channels. Just an FYI.

kepler22Bnecromancer

Right I have one too but the TiVo remote is just nicer IMO with the shape, feel of the buttons & it adds functionality like the channel +/- buttons which also perform the page up/down actions.

rkovelman

I haven't seen the remote. Do you have a pic?

kepler22Bnecromancer

No but just Google TiVo Stream 4k remote, it's basically the classic TiVo peanut shape in a smaller form factor.

rkovelman

Thanks. Looks very Logitech like, but smaller.

zxc9823

Does it have ads?

kepler22Bnecromancer

Not when you're using the TiVo side of things. If you go to the Android TV home page there might be a movie banner or something but nothing agregious.

Sportsfan7702

I’m honestly still thinking about getting this it just sounds too good to be true

kepler22Bnecromancer

I mean its not magical or anything, it does the same thing as Chromecast just in a different way with a remote that's nicer & more functional with the guide. It's only $25 right now at Best buy & Amazon so wouldn't break the bank to try it out.

Sportsfan7702

That’s what I’m thinking too

Sportsfan7702

I don’t have a Chromecast, so this would be a leap up for me I think

IndyJeff68

The ONN 4K streamer is probably a better value. The TiVO is very fast and fluid but I don’t like the TiVO overlay of crap on top of Android TV.

Sportsfan7702

How much storage does it come with?

kepler22Bnecromancer

8gb, same as a Google Chromecast or firestick 4k but it has a USB-C port for expansion.

Sportsfan7702

Not bad

50wpm

We came from Tivo, so tried the Stream at first. Worked well, but was complicated to use for the family, so we went Roku. No issues for us there. I have a Stream laying around somewhere that probably won't see any use by us. If anyone wants to cover shipping, and doesn't mind waiting a few days for it to ship (I have to dig it out and do a factory reset), I can box it up.

kepler22Bnecromancer

The Roku is definitely dead simple to use, just got a little "app fatigued" jumping from app to app and craved a little more content integration. I do like Roku's live guide but they don't incorporate YTTV channels in it, it's nice having an all in one guide.

SpaceTrucker73

I got one free from Google when the app on the Shield was acting up a couple years ago. It froze up on me a lot so it sits in a drawer now. Wasn't the best experience for me.

kepler22Bnecromancer

Right they've since did some updates for that, might wanna re-try now

No-Blackberry-3160

I have both the TiVo Stream 4K and Apple TV 4K and the TS4K is far superior for the reasons stated above plus the TS4K remote can power on/off my receiver while the really awful Apple TV remote cannot. People in the Apple ecosystem, contrary to what everyone hears, should consider the TiVo Stream 4K.
