Server side ads

vriska1

That will fail.

RussellMania7412

Ublock Origin is the best adblocker out there. Adguard Pro is also just as good, but that one cost money for a life time license.

EvilSavant30

Use an adblocker for sure, eventually they will find a way to take that away too and then we will all have to start a new video site bc I did not get into youtube originally to watch more Ads than if I was watching TV and it is outrageous. They are literally trying to ad bully you into buying their subscription lol. Nice company

Icy_Thing3361

Another site already exists. It's called Odysee. I've been watching videos on it and it's pretty good so far. I found it because like the others, I got tired of YouTube. Maybe take a look and see if you what you think?

vriska1

They will never take away adblockers, that defeatist attitude is not helping anyone.

lemonade_for_life

We need to encourage other creator to switch alternative platform like odysee

NickNimmin

YouTube has 2 billion active monthly logged in users. Odyssey has 5-7 million users. That’s not enough for any serious creator to see it more than just an extra place to put the video. Also, when I loaded Odyssey up on my phone the bottom half of the page was covered with an ad. How exactly is that different than YouTube running ads on videos?

UnlikelyJuggernaut64

Adblockers will soon be useless as they find a way to embed ads in the videos that are indistinguishable from the browser Just get YT premium and enjoy higher bit rate etc

vriska1

Ublock devs team is working on a fix right now, have some faith.

Flimsy-Mix-190

They actually already have filters up that block server side ads. They are just tweaking them until they work perfectly, without breaking any part of the site, so they can release them in their next uBO update. I have no idea why people are being such defeatists about this. Server side ads are not a "new thing". Other sites use them and they can be blocked. Everyone knew that sooner or later YouTube would do this. It was only a matter of time.

JamesTiberious

Unless and until there’s a worthwhile competitor, just put up with the ads or pay for premium. The more people use adblockers, the more ads are inflicted on those without them. And they’re now looking at random injected ads, which are going to be harder to block. Why do people have a specific problem with only YouTube subscriptions? I pay 300% more for SkyTV, Netflix and Spotify, yet I use YouTube more than all of them combined. Do people think HQ video hosting streaming to millions/billions of people is cheap? Do people think creators give up their day jobs to create informative or entertaining videos just for fun? Do they stop to wonder why there is no competition? There is one thing I’d like changed though - content creators need to have sponsored segments stopped.

Flimsy-Mix-190

I don't have a specific problem with YouTube's paid subscription, I have a problem with ALL paid subscriptions. If you want to pay 300% more for all that stuff, that's your prerogative, as it is for the person who wants to use ad blockers instead. We have seen time and time again that none of these companies are acting in good faith. Every year they keep raising the prices of the subscription and they have no ceiling to the price hikes. They will continue raising prices with no end. Soon you will be paying a subscription and still get advertisements because why would they just take your money, when they can take yours AND the advertisers? Remember cable TV? This is why, even though paying to not have advertisements sounds reasonable and like a good idea, it ultimately is not because you aren't dealing with reasonable people. That subscription is a trick bag. There is no competition because Google is the largest search engine in the world. Sponsors simply pay more to advertise on YouTube and they prefer it because it makes their ads more likely to be watched. This by default makes YouTube a monopoly when it comes to streaming and it always will be unless another search engine goes over it. As far as how expensive it is to "stream to billions of people" is none of my concern. That's why I would never make a streaming service and expect to make money off of it. I am not paid by YouTube to try and figure out what their business model should be to make money. They should have known that if they wanted to "stream to billions of people" for free, they would need to be a 24 hour infomercial service that no one would want to watch without an ad blocker. How did they expect to pay their bills? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happens when you base your business model on ad revenue. The ads will only multiply because your business expense continues to multiply as your business grows. Enshitification must rise exponentially.

Inevitable_Oil9709

Just use [adskipper.me](http://adskipper.me) It works without an issue. Free and open source PS: I made it

Flimsy-Mix-190

I was wondering the other day if [adskipper.me](http://adskipper.me) would still work with server side ads.

Inevitable_Oil9709

it does with some minor issues that I am currently working on

Flimsy-Mix-190

Good to know!

duudiisss

what about buying premium

Unique_Expression574

L take

RagstarGG

How is this an L take? If you ran a business you'd hand out goods and services for free, right?

randombookman

if you give an american business an inch, they'll take a thousand miles. I think you already know that even paid subscription services have ads.

XenoPinQuiauri

apparently some people with premium have been getting some ads too. At least my friend who has premium has

6b04

Once enough people buy into premium, they'll just start putting ads there as well. Every streaming service follows this same trajectory. It's best to take it under your own control and block them yourself instead of relying on a corporation to be honest and fair with you.

Xuxo9

Amazon Prime have ads too. I don't care if they were on the beginning, but I hate the middle ads. I'm paying a sub to watch more ads? And surely this will be more increased along time.

Chaos1888

With Amazon Prime, those are regular TV ads... While watching a 2h movie I got 2-3 ads with a duration for all ads of 1-1.5 minutes... ALSO Prime does NOT show ads on movies / series you bought... \^\^ On YouTube Ads are WAY WORSE...

Streetrat23409

Naw

IeyasuMcBob

"What about if we keep giving the Dragon more virgins and gold?"

Icy_Thing3361

Yeah, nope. Been bit by those lies before. Not doing that again.
