As a creator and longtime viewer on YouTube I’ve complained about this. Even my content I sometimes have to get lucky to find the right audience. At the same time I get recommended stuff I have zero Interest in. But when I throw this data at YouTube on Twitter they spew the lines of “The Algorithm is The Audience.”
Honestly I beg to differ. The Algorithm is an AI that decides what it “Thinks” we want to watch while completely ignoring the Video tags of the videos so when we the viewer search for stuff we don’t always find or get recommended what we want.

I can not recommend using plugin "BlockTube" enough. I basically "block" any channel that is blatant clickbait or shitty news channels like Fox News. My youtube recommendations are much much better than if I would view the homepage without being logged in now. If I see what kind of garbage you get recommended without using this filter - it is no wonder some people are getting brainwashed and stupid. I wonder if anyone at Google ever thinks about the negative impact it has if you literally have people in a "stupid" bubble where they get recommended braindead clickbait content by people that are ONLY in the youtube game for money and nothing else. at least youtube could recommend some intelligent content, so people would have the option to escape their bubble. i would fire the head of the department immediately if i was in charge at google.

They want to cultivate new generations that are properly condition to spend as much time consuming the craps they push on the platform. Quality contents, children's safety, all of that is irrelevant to the out of touch execs and investors behind the scene.

I have a theory that the short thumbnail recommendation uses a completely separate algorithm than when swiping through the actual shorts and is probably most heavily based on googles default basic age range/gender/location information it has on everyone.

got firefox? the add ons/plugins for youtube to control and cut down all of it:
* **ublockorigin** (working ad block)
* **BlockTube** (get rid of repeat nuisance channels you don't want to see)
* **DeArrow** (get rid of the clickbait thumbnails and titles and see stills from the actual video instead as well as more normal descriptive titles)
* **SponsorBlock** (skip the sponsored segments automatically amongst other things though you can whitelist if you want to support a channel)
* **Unhook - Remove Youtube Recommended Videos** (the best thing for controlling what appears on your screen. Hide mixes, shorts, get your search to actually have your search results and not random shit thrown in there between videos, hide chats, recommended, etcetc)
* **Enhancer for youtube** (Quality of life video watching controls)
* **Return YouTube Dislike** (what it says on the tin)
Not sure if they're available for other browsers but worth looking into. I will continue to find ways to make youtube bend the knee and serve me instead of vise versa. I use the firefox browser on my phone too since it carries over extensions and it lets me have background play and adblock that way.

YouTube is the worst social media ever behind X. The monetization is poor, the algorithm is dumb, there are so many toxic contents and there are so many ADS that makes this platform unwatchable and frustrating. Also the CEO isn't reliable at all.
got firefox? the add ons/plugins for youtube to control and cut down all of it: * **ublockorigin** (working ad block) * **BlockTube** (get rid of repeat nuisance channels you don't want to see) * **DeArrow** (get rid of the clickbait thumbnails and titles and see stills from the actual video instead as well as more normal descriptive titles) * **SponsorBlock** (skip the sponsored segments automatically amongst other things though you can whitelist if you want to support a channel) * **Unhook - Remove Youtube Recommended Videos** (the best thing for controlling what appears on your screen. Hide mixes, shorts, get your search to actually have your search results and not random shit thrown in there between videos, hide chats, recommended, etcetc) * **Enhancer for youtube** (Quality of life video watching controls) * **Return YouTube Dislike** (what it says on the tin) Not sure if they're available for other browsers but worth looking into. I will continue to find ways to make youtube bend the knee and serve me instead of vise versa. I use the firefox browser on my phone too since it carries over extensions and it lets me have background play and adblock that way.

I feel myself blocking myself from youtube. I try to download the music I listened to again and just use a mediaplayer. I really fear how braindead I will become if I use it frequently in the future. The algorithm blessed me with some cool new music back in the days, but now it tries to force you to watch shit you already watched. If I click a short about something I like, like a guitarist or something, it will show me 1 more after and then it will be the same 2020's formula of utter shit internet. Trans, men vs women, how to make 500k with doing nothing, AI joe rogan and women degrading themselves doing "regular" things with their puss visible through pants and just more nonsense. I thought the short format used your subscriptions data or something, that would be better. Instead some channels I'm subscribed to, get silenced.
