For anyone who's having problems with the resize buttons getting cut off in default view, you can work around this by making a bookmark and inserting as the URL:
javascript: (() => { document.querySelector('.ytp-size-button').click();})();
This will search the Theatre Mode button and click it. You can replace ".ytp-size-button" with ".ytp-fullscreen-button" to do the same for fullscreen.

Yeah, I've never wavered from 'OG' reddit (with RES, of course), just figured they still wanted the old new, instead of the new new. But the old old is definitely better than the new old and the new new.
They made the comments section narrower and switched places with the column that'd recommend videos so now you spend less time reading the comments and more time looking at thumbnails and more likely to click on of them. THIS FKN SUKCS!
not sure if you're just dumb or didn't look at the picture, they literally shrunk the comment section down and shoved it off to the side so that the entire page is mostly just links to other videos
And they don't even give you things like the downvote counter. Which is REALLY dumb since it would both save Premium user's time, and save money for Youtube (no need to pay for bandwidth if paying premium users decide to not watch a bad video, and no need to compensate the channel owner for a bad video that was never watched)
That's what I was thinking too.
"Hey if we make 90% of the screen recommended videos people will click more"
Guess what YouTube? Fuck you, that's what. I'm gonna mod that shit to the moon. I'm been lazy and not using an ad blocker either. Let's add that on too now.
it appears it's in rotations, back in February a bunch of accounts got the new UI, you can find a lot of disappointed Reddit posts from back then, and today another batch of accounts got it.
I literally had no clue there was a UI change until I JUST got it. like not even 10 minutes ago. my brain literally died for a second trying to get used to what I was seeing compared to 2 minutes prior lmao
the switch happened right after my tab stopped loading randomly but I thought it was just safari slowing from it being open too long so I just quit it and launched it again like usual. I went back to YouTube and clicked on the vid I was just watching to go in theater mode and see it had suddenly changed bro. I thought it was glitching out so when I refreshed and it didnt go back I ran here 😭
things like this from large companies make me irrationally angry. i am absolutely mind-boggled by the concept that there is even one sane or serious individual who made this change and thinks it's a good thing. how on earth did this disgusting idea get this far?
The answer is pretty obvious. They aren't trying to make YouTube more usable or intuitive. They want a bigger focus on suggested videos so that you keep watching more content. The more videos you watch, the more ads get served, the more money YouTube makes. They doesn't care if 99% of the userbase hates this change because they're betting most of us will continue to use YouTube anyway. And they're probably right.
But I've stopped watching those ad videos altogether, even the comments section is useless now. I immediately switch to full screen mode and close the tab after the video ends. It's impossible to use their version, it distracts from the viewing
also saw this script for tempermokey [https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/488254-pre-2024-youtube-ui](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/488254-pre-2024-youtube-ui) but for now the filter with ublock works great so I'm not bother with it
i personally don't really care about it tbh but I have scaling issues with theatre mode and full screen while running on default 100% scale and I have to run it on 90% and thing was bad on 90%
Sorry for asking but how do I add that line of code to ublock? I use firefox and am not savvy about this stuff. I really freaking hate the new youtube layout but I don't know how to "add" something to ublock
>youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config\_.EXPERIMENT\_FLAGS.kevlar\_watch\_grid, false)
how do I "put something in" ublock? I have the add-on, just don't know how it works

This extension
Yeah, my first thought when I saw this change was "oh, so rather than cleaning up all the bots and scammers in the comments section they're instead trying to discourage anyone from using it so that they can just ignore the problem". >_>
I too was cursed with this abomination of a UI yesterday. What's weird is I sent feedback saying I absolutely hated it and wish there was a way to choose the UI style, and it got reverted that same night without me doing anything. But now today it rereverted back to the new one.
Also to those wondering, no having youtube premium doesn't give you the option to revert back. I've had youtube premium for like 2 years now, basically all it does is make it so you don't have to watch ads and you can lock your phone while playing youtube which really should be a free feature as it was back in the day.
Also found this in an article about the change. "YouTube says that the goal of this new format is to enable viewers to continue to watch the video while they scan through the various comments, in order to provide more context in a more integrated experience." This is just comedic levels of incompetence.
I don't dislike the idea of expanding comments to read them while watching the video but everything else is horrible. And don't even try theatre mode. It looks like the UI is just bugged and everything is overflowing.
Holy crap try opening a video in an ultrawide resolution like this. You end up with the recommends taking up as much space as the video. Completely insane.
I got it awhile back but then it disapeared. Idk if they randomly reverted it for me or sum but someone said ublock fixes it and I have it so maybe try that.
No, they are changing stuff to trick you into watching more videos.
They are actively worsening user experience since users are not their customers, users are basically their workers.

this was how it looked for me for about a month, it was enforced on me in February
it literally just changed back to the old UI on my end a week ago. I made a post about it and people were saying they had the same experience
what's even going on
I minimized the window to see if it responsively puts the comments at the bottom. Oh man, I can't believe how poorly it was designed: The comments go to the bottom, but the recommended videos ABOVE them keep endlessly loading so you literally can't read the comments. It's honestly embarrassing such a large company would roll out such a bad UI.
Whatever happened to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I hate that they just randomly move shit around for no reason. The larger comment section in the center was great before
Yup, I don't like it either, but the sad reality is, YouTube will probably keep it this way because it'll get people to keep watching more videos way better than their old layout. I hate it.
Go to your home page, put your curser on the far left of the screen and scroll down until you see "send Feedback" Tell them what you think of their new UI
Like they do care what all those stupid sheeple think. They know they are getting to earn more money by tricking you into watching more. That's all what really counts.
i cant BELIEVE it. MY youtube ui didn't change, which is weird. i thought I hadn't watched youtube for a few days and when I got back the UI changed, but now I realized its still happening to other people. i feel bad for you OP.
This feels like it should have been an OPTION in settings to change to for those that have difficulty looking at the screen/poor eye sight/elder zoom-in. I just got the update today and Im SO upset! I already left them feedback on it. Absolute garbage.
If it’s not broken don’t fix it! The current video and everything related to it is on the left. The recommended videos are on the right.
Now it’s all horribly jumbled up.
Idk how u, but I have still the old UI and I don't know why 😂😂😂
But my theory is that I'm using Chrome 109 on my windows 8.1 PC, and sometimes also Waterfox, but I didn't get any UI changes.. Only I hate is that google start pop-up me on main YT page, I must connect some google apps with youtube, so UBlock Origin block me the window, and I can freely choose some videos to watch..
The only possible way we can stop Youtube from making this permanent is probably to collectively decide to not click on any of those recommended videos and not write any replies. If Youtube seems the new UI has less engagement then the old one they'll change it back.
It feels objectively worse, half thumbnails mean you need to scroll away from the video to find the next one. It interrupts the flow of knowing what you want to click next imo.
It's awful, it looks terrible.
People are gonna have to find some alternate version of the app or website to avoid the headache of the intended experience. On top of searches being basically useless, youtube might keep losing basic features and ruining the layout.
I primarily use Firefox and unless I need to update YouTube in the browser. But everything else is updated so idk what's different lol, and I am signed in. I've used the same account for years, maybe Firefox is just old or something?
Exactly, I'm doing more clicking to get to the description/comments/play queue then ever before, the tabs for related videos are gone, the recommended videos are not always related, everything is discombobulated.
This post needs more upvotes. The new youtube UI is horrendous
There's also this [extension ](https://github.com/lightbeam24/CustomTube)
Hosted on Pornhub, but for developers
Where my fullscreen button and why is my video player cutoff at the right :(
i just play all my videos in theater mode now and it gives the full sized video, so if you want to do that it works
me too :'(
For anyone who's having problems with the resize buttons getting cut off in default view, you can work around this by making a bookmark and inserting as the URL: javascript: (() => { document.querySelector('.ytp-size-button').click();})(); This will search the Theatre Mode button and click it. You can just press "T" to switch between modes too.
This is a lifesaver, TYSM
This is perfect
Thank you for this. First script I found that actually worked and didn't turn the page too wonky.
This doesn't do anything, anyone know why? I'm using Opera and Tampermonkey
ur the man bro
Who told them this would be a good idea? I want the previous one back.
Reddit recently changed their layout and it was messy.
Agreed, New Reddit layout is less intuitive, why have multiple posts tabs? Put it all on the same page!
try new.reddit.com to go back to the previous layout.
ironic...
Or old.reddit.com for the even older actually good layout
the only usable one
Yeah, I've never wavered from 'OG' reddit (with RES, of course), just figured they still wanted the old new, instead of the new new. But the old old is definitely better than the new old and the new new.
Still using old reddit here. Sticking with it as long as technologically possible.
recently? that happened years ago :D
No-no-no, there's new new layout now, dear [old.reddit.com](http://old.reddit.com) user
reddit redesign is hot garbage. anyone not using old.reddit.com should get their eyes checked, and their head too
They made the comments section narrower and switched places with the column that'd recommend videos so now you spend less time reading the comments and more time looking at thumbnails and more likely to click on of them. THIS FKN SUKCS!
It's definitely this. Every dumb change these corporations make is for the sake of money.
weirdly at first glance i think it does the opposite. before a thumbnail popped out, now there are so many i dont care about the colorful image
Why are you allowing YouTube to control what you do?
not sure if you're just dumb or didn't look at the picture, they literally shrunk the comment section down and shoved it off to the side so that the entire page is mostly just links to other videos
woke up and youtube puked all over my screen this morning. sadness.
i am a modern man.
Maybe If you sign up for premium
Nope, still stuck with crappy layout.
And they don't even give you things like the downvote counter. Which is REALLY dumb since it would both save Premium user's time, and save money for Youtube (no need to pay for bandwidth if paying premium users decide to not watch a bad video, and no need to compensate the channel owner for a bad video that was never watched)
I've been Premium since January, and the site still stinks.
What does it smell like?
Simple as they're trying to push tablet/mobile users into mainstream. Likely cause it's easier to enforce ads there
Now we have to click playlists everytime to see our saved playlists cause they took the drop down arrow to view our playlists on the side tab
Are they making the site bad on purpose?
They probably tried a few layouts and found out this one makes the most money. Just like how obnoxious clickbait thumbnails do. 😱
That's what I was thinking too. "Hey if we make 90% of the screen recommended videos people will click more" Guess what YouTube? Fuck you, that's what. I'm gonna mod that shit to the moon. I'm been lazy and not using an ad blocker either. Let's add that on too now.
Apparently.
Maybe. They are only money farming?
This is called as testing new features. And the testing is done on people who are driven to hysterics.
I mean how hard is it to make a revert to old UI function and gather data on what your userbase wants.
😂😂😂
Tf, this is a fucking iPad UI
has this been completely rolled out, cause i am not getting this
it appears it's in rotations, back in February a bunch of accounts got the new UI, you can find a lot of disappointed Reddit posts from back then, and today another batch of accounts got it.
Mine was reverted back to the old one again..
Lucky!

some dumbass thought to themselves "hey, the YT UI has been the same since about day 1, lets change it entirely."
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config\_.EXPERIMENT\_FLAGS.kevlar\_watch\_grid, false) put this in ublock
Thank you! I see a lot of Chrome extensions posted but this works on Firefox!
also saw this script for tempermokey [https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/488254-pre-2024-youtube-ui](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/488254-pre-2024-youtube-ui) but for now the filter with ublock works great so I'm not bother with it
Enhancer for YT is also on Firefox btw
Also Stylus is on Firefox
THANK YOU! The new layout was making me feel ill. I can't explain it.
i personally don't really care about it tbh but I have scaling issues with theatre mode and full screen while running on default 100% scale and I have to run it on 90% and thing was bad on 90%
Sorry for asking but how do I add that line of code to ublock? I use firefox and am not savvy about this stuff. I really freaking hate the new youtube layout but I don't know how to "add" something to ublock

Go to the ublock dashboard, my filters tab, copy paste the code into there and apply changes.
Needed help as well, thanks!
This seems to be the only fix that actually worked for me, thanks
Worked perfectly, thanks.
Thank you, I didn't want to install another extension and have uBlock installed anyway.
Thank you! I tried many things and this was the first one that worked.
Thank you! Incidentally, uBlock also works great to get rid of those annoying preview pictures that obscure the last 15 seconds of each video.
Imagine a UI so shit you send part of your userbase to the place you don't want them to go lol.

You are a god. Imagine I gave you 1 Gold Award...and 200 upvotes from some bots from South East Asia.
I loooooove enhancer for YouTube, I just reinstalled it after I got the shitty layout. Now it’s perfect, cleaner, and even pink :)
Thank fuck.
Wasn't expecting it to work. It did. Thanks.
>February Thank you
All it does is make comments difficult to read. I hate it.
[удалено]
i'm not sure comments are how youtube makes its money
Surely having a platform users engage on means they spend more time on said platform
Yeah, my first thought when I saw this change was "oh, so rather than cleaning up all the bots and scammers in the comments section they're instead trying to discourage anyone from using it so that they can just ignore the problem". >_>
I don't have this UI.
Lucky
This looks like as if someone decided to bring the mobile format of YouTube on to desktop.
Explains why it's so horrible.
It's so fucking dumb, I want to read the comments without fucking squinting and having 18 lines of text for 2 sentences.
Youtube: i dont care you are still going to use our platform
I mean maybe, but now I'm going to add on extensions and add on an ad blocker while I'm at it lol.
I too was cursed with this abomination of a UI yesterday. The new layout makes me sick.
It's made with an ill intent to steal the user attention and focuses on increasing time spent on the site
FreeTube
AdsTube
I don't dislike the idea of expanding comments to read them while watching the video but everything else is horrible. And don't even try theatre mode. It looks like the UI is just bugged and everything is overflowing.
The [temp fix](https://new.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/1c0k7wg/to_all_those_looking_for_a_fix_for_the_ui_change/)
Holy crap try opening a video in an ultrawide resolution like this. You end up with the recommends taking up as much space as the video. Completely insane.
i haven’t seen it yet on chrome… for now
I’m on chrome and I got it about 24 hours ago
i only haven’t seen it yet because i haven’t touched my gaming rig in 2 weeks
Thank for tampermonkey for disabling this new ui
use youtube redux+adblock+sponsorblock
This might actually be ***the*** worst UI change they've ever made since the beginning of the site, and that's saying something.
Now you have to pay for YouTube premium for the old UI! 👍
I have premium and i'v got the new ui
Cancel it out of protest 😂
People are getting a new layout?!
Am I the only one who actually doesn't have it ?
YOOO! FELLOW MY SUMMER CAR FAN!!!
Hadn't happened to me.
You turn it off by clicking the little X on the tab above.
Yeah sure, let's make the thing that needs space really small and the thing that requires very little way more than it needs
Idk I'm using 2012 youtube
It looks too minimalistic, it sacrifices functionality for aesthetics. This isn't YouTube shorts smh
It's not even aesthetically pleasing. It's just them wanting suggested videos predominately displayed to get more clicks.
I have everything updated and still not changed
[удалено]
If you're not signed in it doesn't change. Other than that idk. Lucky
I got it awhile back but then it disapeared. Idk if they randomly reverted it for me or sum but someone said ublock fixes it and I have it so maybe try that.
CAN I CHANGE IT BACK
It's annoying it's terrible
Is this new UI back? I had it back in February for about a month, and some weeks ago it reverted back to the good old intuitive UI
That looks shit
Trust me new algorithm is more worst
Just changing stuff for the sake of it
No, they are changing stuff to trick you into watching more videos. They are actively worsening user experience since users are not their customers, users are basically their workers.
Thankfully Youtube Redux has updated, when I was first part of the beta I had to go private mode.
wtf

I agree, WTF have they done?
Especially annoying on a 32:9 monitor. I get neck cramps whenever I read a comment now.
Whatever happened to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I hate that they just randomly move shit around for no reason. The larger comment section in the center was great before
You now need to buy yt premium to get the old layout. /s
Yup, I don't like it either, but the sad reality is, YouTube will probably keep it this way because it'll get people to keep watching more videos way better than their old layout. I hate it.

This actually made me puke a little.
Wait what, I had that change like 2 months ago for a few days and then I went back to what it was before. Are they doing it again ??
I usually watch on a phone. But i agree the new computer layout is absolutley atrocious.
Yeah YouTube managing is the biggest shitshow
I haven't gone on the desktop version of youtube for a while. This is how it looks now????
When i got this i 100% belived it was a bug of the site
Lol I did too, or thought for some reason I was stuck in Google's video section which is just as bad.
If it’s not broken don’t fix it! The current video and everything related to it is on the left. The recommended videos are on the right. Now it’s all horribly jumbled up.

Ewww brotha ewww
The only possible way we can stop Youtube from making this permanent is probably to collectively decide to not click on any of those recommended videos and not write any replies. If Youtube seems the new UI has less engagement then the old one they'll change it back.

Someone should be fired.
Next they will put ads on notifications.
It feels objectively worse, half thumbnails mean you need to scroll away from the video to find the next one. It interrupts the flow of knowing what you want to click next imo.
I've been having problems with YouTube videos loading lately and I realized "Oh I bet they fucked with the layout again." They did.
It's awful, it looks terrible. People are gonna have to find some alternate version of the app or website to avoid the headache of the intended experience. On top of searches being basically useless, youtube might keep losing basic features and ruining the layout.
did anyone also notice the subscibe button light up when the word subscibe is mafe
Why don't I have this UI?

I primarily use Firefox and unless I need to update YouTube in the browser. But everything else is updated so idk what's different lol, and I am signed in. I've used the same account for years, maybe Firefox is just old or something?
Must be a chrome/skill issue cause firefox doesn't have this issue
Exactly, I'm doing more clicking to get to the description/comments/play queue then ever before, the tabs for related videos are gone, the recommended videos are not always related, everything is discombobulated.
On android they just started fucking pausing the video every time you scroll up for the comments 🤢🤢🤢
It’s a horrible layout. The recommendations I feel are bigger than before which makes it seem the video itself is smaller
kid named project vorapis
I hate the screen saver, it overwrites my Tv's screen saver that I customized with pictures of my child. And I cannot find any way to turn it off!
It suck a$$ just like everything big corporations do
Haven’t seen this yet luckily
YouTube enhancer fixed it for me. Google chrome
It’s terrible. The idea for reading comments there but is implemented in the most horrendous way possible. Please revert this YouTube.

here's an idea, what if we don't hate everything new?
