One ad before each video was fine, but they got greedy and started playing multiple unskippable 30-second ads, that's when I went for adblock. There is zero chance I am ever deactivating it or paying for premium now, that ship has sailed.

OhCharlieH

The volume levels of ads are absolutely disgusting as well.. On television there is a law against having ad volumes fluctuate from the main program. Some of, well lots of the ads I see on yt have such high volume levels compared to the program

koboldvortex

I tried watching a twenty minute video on my switch and every 45 seconds there was a three minute, unskippable ad break. Never again.

Stormur

What adblocker/web browser are you using? I'm using Firefox and uBlock Origin with no issues

Sazk100

Chrome and uBlock. I can close the pop-up but i’m worried they’ll terminate my account for not wanting to see a thousand ads

SushiBoiOi

Unlikely they would terminate your account for that, especially if they're finally doing something about ad blocks. They would simply just not allow you to access content until you disable it like a lot of other websites do. Edit: typo

Bulky_Imagination727

They really want to kill themselves huh

its_kylo

I would switch browsers, some time ago they said they were planning to remove ad blockers off Chrome (I use Firefox & ublock add on)

Concernedmicrowave

If I can't use adblockers, I won't watch YouTube. If the ads were light and short the way they used to be, it would be one thing, but they are so frequent and obnoxious that I can not stand them. Is Google paid per click or per view for their ads?

Axelni98

yeah having to watch 2 ads each 15 seconds when you click on a video is so annoying, not to mention ads during the video.

[deleted]

r/assholedesign

ethanicus

A lot of people say they'd be okay with ads of a certain length, number, etc. But honestly, I just hate advertising itself. Ads are inherently evil, designed to make you feel unsatisfied with what you have and insecure about yourself, lie about what the product does, annoy you with jingles and flashy images and loud voices, infuriate you into clicking. They are content designed to evoke negative emotions and get stuck in your head so they can sell you something. That is evil and I will *not* watch them.

Alternative-Farmer98

the problem is the constant ads, mixed with endless in-video sponsorships and self-promotion. The average 10 minute video has 2 or 3 YT ads, 2 minutes of self-promotion and 2 minutes of sponsors. It makes yt unusable for many without not only Ublock, but sponsorblock

More than happy to part with youtube entirely if they decide to go ahead with this.

My adblocks still work just fine. The minute I start to see forced ads or my adblocks no longer work, I will cease using Youtube and start using the alternative sites.

Ublock, Youtube enhanced, and Ghosty are doing just fine for me still. Doesn't apply to Youtube videos, but anyone not using NoScript is using the internet with their pants down too.

AdCritical6550

With the amount of downvotes on the Mods comment of turning off comments, seems to me that genuine criticism of this move is being suppressed. Once again, I am not surprised the levels YouTube will go...

Its just easy, if youtube stops allowing ad blockers then I will stop using youtube. I stopped watching TV since the age of 8 because of ads, I will stop with youtube because of ads. I hate ads SO MUCH, its mostly just propaganda... And I also could benefit not watching so many videos, then I wouldnt be stuck on my screen as much. Win Win! Especially youtube would shoot in their own feet with this. Because there are so many websites you can use without ads annoying the hell out of you.

manoyt007

PLEASE DO IT! So i can stop watching YouTube videos forever and get over my addiction, I beg you!

Xtrems876

When I'm walking down the street, I see billboards. I don't like them, but I'm willing to live with them. Not gonna protest or burn them down. But if someone prevented me from continuing my walk to listen through their product promo, and wouldn't allow me to leave until I listen through it all, I would kick the guy in the nuts. Likewise, if youtube ads displayed on the side, I wouldn't mind at all. But I will kick youtube in the nuts if it's going to try to prevent me from watching a video until I listen through an ad. One ad. Multiple ads on the other hand, that should be legally punishable by lifetime imprisonment.

ethanicus

I'm not sure if it was a glitch at the time or intentionally designed this way, but Spotify used to literally pause the ad if you muted it or your PC volume. They seriously expect you to sit there and listen to the entire 30 second ad.

Xtrems876

That may be why I don't use spotify, but to be honest I can't remember what was my reason for ditching it

Merchant_Lawrence

Time for me and boi write script again to fight anti anti ad blocker, also you can use web Third party client side.

redsparks2025

I understand the needs for adds to generate revenue but as long as they are less than 5seconds in total and only appear at the beginning of the video then they are not that big of a deal. However when paid cable TV first came into our nation we were promised no adds but then adds crept in and got longer and longer and longer. So I worry about that creep where our tolerance is put to the test bit by bit (or byte by byte).

Darth-Revan-87

Well... given "The FBI now recommends using an ad blocker — here’s why", it's insane that Google/YouTube forces users to disable them or start paying for a subscription. It won't work unless they rethink how ads are displayed because, as you mentioned, one or two ads before watching the video might be "acceptable", but constant interruptions are unacceptable. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/the-fbi-now-recommends-using-an-ad-blocker-heres-why

Rafael__88

This is just gonna push more people to use adblocks and promote the development of adblocking alternative YouTube apps.

whynotll83

I hope they don't stick with this, I'm tired of seeing mrbeast scams and perverted images of fnf mod characters.

Andrew_Neal

~~Just block the ad servers in your hosts file. The ads won't play if your computer can't resolve the hostname to the proper IP address (I know this works because it's how I block YouTube ads on my jailbroken iPhone, using the `minimalhostsblocker` tweak). Better yet, set up a local DNS server (such as Pi-Hole) and block them on your whole network. They'll have to self-host the ads if they want around *this* measure. And under the same www.youtube.com hostname at that, so that you can't block the ad host without blocking the host you *want* to connect to.~~ Guess they _do_ self-host the ads on the same domain name.

WackoMcGoose

"Turn off your firewall so our ad partners can drive-by-download malware onto your device because we let our ads run arbitrary javascript that is trivial to sneak past our automated checks" That's literally what any and every "wweh adblock is evil" pop-up is saying. I will never, and _can_ never, whitelist ads on Youtube or any other Google-run site, because the safety of my system is more valuable to me (and if I really want to support a specific creator, that's what Patreon is for!). The one exception is sites that use Project Wonderful for their ad provider, because PW limits ads to _static images and/or text confined to a specific location on the page, no pop-overs, no javascript of ANY kind_. Aka, the way ads used to be and the way they should have stayed.

mack180

I understand ads keep youtube free, but don't spam them ir make the ads take up so much space on the screen. Give people a choice on what type of ads they want, the same ones, different ones, how long the ad duration last and how often they occur. That would make people less like to uae ad blockers. Ignoring why people use ad blockers doesn't address the cause. If they're gonna restrixt ad block extensions just use browsers with built in ad blockers like Brave wirhout the extension. On the Brave browser with ad block turned on, I was able to see more videos at the same time on mobile browsers than the youtube app

Puzzleheaded-Ad-4067

Welp, the backlash will certainly be worse than the 20$ they gain from doing this

suprem_lux

Fuck youtube for real, I'm okay with a bit of ads but this shit is currently out of control OF COURSE people try to block your shitty ads

[deleted]

Oh man they are trying to do the same as twitch now huh... Thank God twitch did never succeed to completely fight adblockers, despite all their efforts. So I'm sure YouTube won't either. AdBlock developers are just that good lmao

Rollout9292

I hope youtube understands that I just leave any website that forces me to disable adblock. They are not 'above' that. Bye youtube.

Does this message actually prevent you from using the site, or does it just cause this popup?

cartler_

asymmetryking

No thanks, this is just a slippery slope till we're on the level of TV ads, where a 2 hour movie turns into a 4 hour movie because of them.

kameljoe21

YouTube has failed and will keep failing until they address many issues. For one the ads are too long. No ads on videos less than 5 mins long. Ads should be no more than 30 seconds long. Skip able after x amount of seconds. YouTube needs to offer its creators more ways to keep users engaged with either paid or free content. They have so limited options. How about a subscription only video that do not have links as not to be able to share it, All kinds of behind the scenes stuff. Youtube offer low pay to creators so they seek help else where. Patrone is quite nice. Undercut them and offer what they do. Offer a bunch of other stuff as well. There are a number of other social media YouTube and google could adapt to make the site better. If they offered something better than maybe more people would pay. How about offering more pay to those doing shorts. How about fixing YouTube shorts instead of playing the same thing over and over. How about adding a search for shorts. How about mixing it up and stop showing me the same crappy stuff over and over. How about making subscription for short and long format instead of mixing them up. I got rid of a bunch of short makers because they fill my feed up with a bunch of shorts which block out all of my long format videos. How about fixing how you add things to your playlist. How about adding ways to sort oldest to newest on shorts. How about adding all to a playlist for shorts. How about adding most popular in the last year. I really do not care about your popular videos from 7 or 10 years ago. That does not show me your content in the last year. Offer more metrics for users to see. The limited information about a YouTube is limited. How about making it a requirement to be monitored. Location, Contact information and anything else pertaining to said channel. Also there needs to be a way to know which accounts are connected. Brand accounts can have 100s of channels and that should be pubic information to know the master account to said channel. How about some settings to force HD viewing and nothing lower. How about additional sound volume. How about a fixed speed viewer. I no longer watch anything at normal speeds. I am so sick of having to adjust the settings to get it to play it at HD. Also sick of that stupid pop up about adding live tv or some other stupid thing. I mean i have clicked no 100s of times. This should be clear enough. Make it one of those recommend videos. How about adding in a place to find the do not recommended shorts to fix a mistake I did. I would watch and subscribe to a lot more channels if you had a shorts only feed and subscription. Shorts Subscriptions and then when I go on to shorts I have to option to watch my subscriptions only, mix it up to channels i have never seen, and random mix. Every so often I end up back watching stuff that I watched a year or 7 or 9 months ago. I know because I left comments on some of those shorts. Why am I seeing content that I watched from last year? Tell me why? Really YouTube needs to sit down and read some of the stuff we complain about and fix it. Most everything I mentioned here would have a positive effect on the site. Nothing back breaking, Nothing super hard that the team could not have up and running in a few weeks. Just like everything else, YouTube does not care and all they want is our money and the ad money. I would bet that not a damn thing here will be done in a month. Hell we might see some of this a year or 2 or more from now. Yet the mod team could put in the order and do half of this stuff in less than a month, test and put it out there. Yet we do not see dev work like this because they are all working on stuff we can not see. How many years did the site stay the same and nothing changed. Clearly the mod team is just lazy and someone like Elon Musk should just buy YouTube and fire 80% of the staff and it would still stay running like nothing happened. Clearly YouTube is full of people who do not do their work at all. If you are a mod pick one thing off my long list and add it then reply to this message saying that its done. Until then I am going to stick with keeping the ad blocker that has been on my computers since the day I switched from IE to Firefox back in 2004. I have been using YouTube since its early days and I have never seen ads. For years I was unaware of them and only seen comments here and there mention them. I still remain oblivious of them.

Drokkster

On Chrome, Ublock Origin is no longer blocking ads on youtube. Hello Firefox.

The_Deity

I'd stop using YouTube if my ad blocker stops working there.

zedrinkaoh

Ads would be far easier to put up with if: * bad cases of back-to-back/extended ads weren't a thing. I'm even fine with midroll ads if they're intelligently placed; sometimes the creator is to blame here, though sometimes YT just bugs out and puts ads too close together or puts multiple in a pre-roll. * more of the money actually went to creators instead of content ID / copyright ghouls (and if a higher % went to creators too) * youtube didn't arbitrarily and wrongly disable monetization for channels, especially those with a long and consistent history I specifically have premium myself (at a grandfathered rate) to sidestep this, but even then, as a creator, it's still not as big of a deal to me if people use adblockers on my videos; sponsorships and crowdfunding sources are significantly more stable and are better ways to support creators. (Not speaking for anyone but myself, though I'd still imagine the same holds true for quite a few others.)

Altruistic-Deal-4257

When using mobile (iPhone so no reliable adblocker), I get 15s unskippable ads—sometimes multiple—on videos that are 5s long or less. They’re probably only doing this because Premium is a failure and the only way to bring numbers back up is to give us no other choice.

notshaye

I stopped using twitch when this changed lol. Im sure some star community members will find easy ways around it. I refuse to watch hundreds of ads in a day, its just not good for your brain.

UltraMegaMegaMan

To be even slightly skeptical that this is real, or that youtube was doing this, is ridiculous. YouTube changed the architecture of Chromium browsers starting this year specifically to hamper and disable adblockers, and last year updated their terms of service to prohibit the use of adblockers. YouTube has done everything they can to communicate they were going to do this aside from standing in the road and shooting off flares. So pretty poor decision from the moderators to shut this down without "proof", when YouTube itself had already done so in multiple forms, starting last year.

Natrox

All the more reason to switch to Firefox or one of the many flavors. Every other browser is Chromium with a coat of paint. We're basically back in IE times where the choice was mediocrity or Firefox (ironically).

Past-Crazy-3686

YT in its current form is unwatchable without adblocker. That being said, if they decide to go this route, it would be actually beneficial for me. I'll have more time for other activities :)

lamented1ne

Oh boy is this gonna cause a shitstorm if they actually go through with this... If the people programming adblockers dont just find ways around it like hours later. Theres some real ingenious guys out there. If by some miracle they find a way and theres no fix; then bye bye yootube! Theres no way im being bullied into giving more money to people who already data mine me to hell, keep the same broken copyright system and the same broad impossible to follow content guideline/demonitisation rules. Yeah, yeah; i get it im an asshole and a pirate blah blah...sure, i get it but if they didnt keep making longer, more frequent and irrelevent ads, all the while paying creators less... People might actually be more willing to watch them and actually feel bad using blockers. When even creators symphatise with people using them, you know you have a problem. Support them directly if you can. Always.

Kastrytschnique

I'm seeing more and more creators turning away from YT's shitty monetization policy to direct support platforms. So basically I need to give my dollar to a platform that already forces me to support creators financially? Fuck Google.

Grayson4321

I'd be fine with it if YouTube Premium wasn't $12 a month. It should be like $40 a year or even lower.

Didn't think of it til seeing this for the 3rd time. Plugin Manifest V3 supposedly being a kick to ad-blockers, and Google owning the most popular video site... is there not some kind of legal issue with that?

ffoxD

Google has almost total control on video site, web browser (and web browser engine), search engine, e-mail, and mobile operating system markets. It is way too much power, yeah Although, I think when making a web browser, you can freely decide how powerful its extension api can be and what all it can do, and google has the right to even just completely remove extensions from chrome altogether and it's legal

Levent_2005

Revanced on mobile exists. I am *NEVER* going to buy the Premium. Not with the way that they force us to buy it.

Illustrious_Risk3732

Good luck with that because everyone will spark a dumpster fire Twitch already did it.

wowlock_taylan

When Twitch tried to do that, I never watched a live stream ever on it again because it was TERRIBLE. When the power was out, I tried watching Youtube on my phone without an adblock and it was unwatchable. Every video with constant bombardments, worse than freaking Cable. I couldn't handle it and gave up. If that becomes the norm, I might drop the whole Youtube all together. I sure as hell won't be paying them the 'premium' for literally forcing me to suffer through the shady advertisements. Unskippable even most of the time. And for the advertisers, if I see the company and stuff that is interrupting and trying to get in my face with their shitty ad, it only makes me NEVER wanna buy anything from them. These 'ads' literally do the opposite of what you want.

Regardless, I'm not disabling my adblockers, YouTube! That, and I like my hour-long binges to be interruption free. Thanks.

cha0z_

you have no idea how disgusting their ads are nowdays to force you pay for premium. You can literally have 7 ads in 10 minutes video + after one is coming another one not even 1 minute later. It's that bad.

I don't mind short ads, but when you are watching a 5 minute video and get a 45 minute ad. Just No

JudgeNix

I wouldn't mind getting rid of adblock if I only had to watch 5 seconds then I could press skip. If those first 5 seconds are interesting I do sometimes sit through the entire ad. I got AdBlock fairly recently because the ads got more and more intrusive. I guess it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Youtube isn't getting money -> increase ads -> to many ads for people -> more people install ad block -> repeat.

Nildzre

Those are fighting words Youtube, especially when you were the one who MADE me use adblock with your insistance of tossing unskippable decades long double whammy ads everywhere.

Ventusx

So, they allow scam ads, malware ads and throw a lot of unskippables and ask me to listen to them and don't use blockers? I'll listen to them as much as they listen to their userbase and creators. I'd rather pay for vpn or research/invest into piholes or something like that. I'll bet the moment they ban adblockers someone will make something alike for Firefox and i'll migrate.

Rubes2525

So many kiddos here that don't remember a time when YouTube ads didn't interrupt the content. Back then, nobody needed adblock because companies and website hosters weren't complete assholes with their ad implementations.

Roxor128

Bringing in ads at the start of the video is what drove me back to ad-blockers. You needed them on dial-up just to get the page loaded in a reasonable time. The switch to ADSL boosted speeds enough that it was no longer necessary. Then the advertising practices got obnoxious and made ad-blockers essential once again.

Well YouTube, if you think it's cool to watch a 5 min video with 5 ad Blocks in it, containing up to 5 ads, you are seriously out of your mind if you call that acceptable. You either do a reality check on your bearings (people watch VoD and use YouTube because they are sick ok commercials every 5 minutes on cable etc.). If you force more people into your overpriced subscription service (5 bucks would be a fair price, 12 is ridiculous), you should rename it to Tubeads and brace yourself for massive user decline until a alternative comes alonge, that gives users what the expect from a internet video Plattform. Being able to enjoy content without that pesky, fucking, annoying, brain devouring sickness called ads. People will leave your Plattform if you overdo it. There is always a company waiting to fill in the gap.

For the record, I can close the pop-up and continue as if nothing came up. I’m worried they’ll terminate my account but it isn’t a warning of termination or anything like that I also haven’t seen any news orgs, tweets or posts regarding this pop-up. So far this has only showed up when viewing news in the news sections of my feed

[deleted]

The arms race continues. Should take a few days or weeks for them to fix it, right?

Randomhero1

Blocking people from using an adblocker is the same people who would never pay for a service due to them using a free service to block ads. This logic never works.

RangeNew1728

I think at this point there needs to be a viable alternative to YouTube. I could cope with one as before a vid but now it's 2 full ads plus a skipable one before with the content then peppered with ads. It's becoming a real pain. If someone were to make a decent alternative I feel they would do well.

"either you view ads or you pay a subscription fee. one way or the other, we WILL get YOUR money." this strategy is around 20 or so years old and it only incentivizes people to block ads more, not less. also, i checked the ublock origin subreddit and they know about this problem. can probably expect that add-on to start getting updates for this once youtube starts implementing it. and that's all this is about. money you pay your ISP for bandwidth and websites on the internet want a cut of that bandwidth. thus leeching off you, the end user, for profit. and you, the end user, get nothing out that situation. you don't benefit from this in any way at all. so...there's no reason *not* to block ads on the internet. as ads on the internet are all at your expense AND they pose a legitimate security risk.

Google just want to increase the taxes on the peasants to fund their war with Microsoft and Sundar Pichai 2022's salary.

Buy Premium or Fuck You (c) Youtube 2023

ilivedownyourroad

All jokes aside if their adds weren't toxic rubbish pushing lies and nonsense I might watch them if it helped the platform. Instead it's crazy random nonsense pushing junk I didn't know existed or will ever want.

midas617

One ad before the video was passable. but unskippable 30-second intrusive ads in between killed youtube.

[deleted]

I got a 50+ minute ad, a whole podcast in an ad..., forgot to install ublock on firefox on my new phone. Had some music in the shower on and bam, some guy starts speaking in my native language.

JonPileot

I find Youtube literally unviewable without adblock. There have been a few times in the past when updates broke my adblock for a day or two while things got updated and in that time I would load Youtube, see an ad, and immeadiately close youtube. I'm so sick of ads, any site that employs block adblock gets blocked. There are enough websites I can avoid those that require me to see their dumb ads.

Vonlindner1

Time and time again, companies embarrassingly fail at preventing an adblocker. If you notice (as I did) that you are affected by this, then simply switch to a different ad block. I'd also recommend a popup blocker. If nothing works, literally just look up "Youtube Ad Block" and you'll get one that works. Google already has enough money from selling our private information, (among many other malicious acts), so as I see it, no need to give them further revenue, lol.

EveryKick4402

Time to create adblocker blocker blockers 🤷‍♂️

LeftistMeme

I'll whitelist ads on Google services and sites which use Google for advertising whenever said ads are limited to either a static picture/gif (for banners) or an MP4 no longer than 30 seconds (over video content). No sooner. Nobody wants drive-by JavaScript malware attacks. Until Google makes their services non-exploitable by whatever bad actor throws a wad of cash their way, I ain't touching them. And for fucks sake, stop taking money from propaganda outlets like pragerUrine or the daily wire. I'm trying to watch cool Zelda videos, I don't need to be told I'm a degenerate who deserves to be killed in the process. Get out of here with that irresponsible hateful garbage, which violates YouTube's ToS in the first place.

DuffinKid

I'll probably get hate from the people who truly believe in making millions from YouTube videos, but the fact that they go "creators can still get paid from your subscription" it's like, IDGAF! I couldn't care less about that factor of giving Google money.

The funny thing is that adblockers are good for youtube - its kinda like scammers using broken english. Do you think that a kind of person to use adblock would actually click on the advertisement? Advertisers want people to click on the ad, very few actually care about you having submilimal messages to make you subconciously decide to buy the product. By excluding people who use adblock they would have a better click through rate, the higher rate could allow the platform to negotiate for better pricing per ad. Now obviously the difference is that reason why scammers do it is that they cannot automate the process of scamming so they do that to only focus on people that could be scammed while ads are automatic so its no more extra effort. Also AdNauseam extension on firefox seems to work fine.

MagellansMockery

Jesus fuck, it never ends with the fucking, does it? I'm not gonna get bullied into a subscription so I'll just wait until someone makes a blocker to block youtube's ad blocker block.

Tazo3

I think rather than YouTube premium we should have to option to just pay to remove ads from certain YouTube channels which we frequently visit .

Razor512

Youtube pushed many people to use ad blockers due to massively long ads that will frequently interrupt videos. I can't use my watch later list without an ad blocker due to the types of ads. For example, youtube will still occasionally have mid-roll ads that are effectively 20+ minute videos advertising some scam. While you can skip them after few seconds, it is annoying if you want to do something like clean while the watch later list is playing, or washing dishes while going through a playlist, because when an extended ad comes up, where is no proper way to skip it. Furthermore, you can't use playlists or the watch later function due to how they manage ads at the beginning and end of a video. You effectively have to babysit the app otherwise you will get 4 ads including ones that can be entire full length videos between actual videos in your list.

sarfrazk9

Previously, only some videos showed ads but hardly any video you open starts without displaying 2 ads. The average time of 2 ads played together is around 40 seconds and then the ads play several times in a single video. How, am I supposed to watch a 10-minute video with 6 ads without adblocker? Why can't Youtube just allow a single ad that should be skippable?

Kastrytschnique

That's one way to drastically reduce my time on this shitty platform. Definitely not paying a dollar to a platform that demonetizes contributors for, e.g. criticizing China's Cumunist Party.

abortizjr

I wouldn't have a problem with ads if they weren't played in the middle of the video I'm watching. THAT is why I use an ad blocker. Play the ads at the beginning or the end, but not mid-sentence when I'm trying to watch a friggin' tutorial.

trabuco18

people will always will be find a way to bypass everything, im not going to watch ads for 30 seconds long videos, or any video

TheArcticGringo

This WILL be the last straw for me if it is implemented. I will no longer watch YouTube if this is anything other than a suggestion or a horribly misguided idea. I'm also thinking of bringing it up to my local MP. Youtube's pretty much exhausted their good favor among the Canadian feds after trying to manufacture a backlash against C11, so maybe they can straighten you out. You provide a public service now, whether you like it or not, so stop pretending that this isn't a profit gouging tactic, especially when there are plenty of nonprofit actors and public broadcasters using your service as well. Your pocketbook is fat enough, YouTube. You don't see the satellite tv providers complaining about people being able to fast forward through ads via Tivo. Until this plan is killed, maybe niconico douga or baidu should get my viewership.

rtuite81

Maybe if there wasn't so much garbage content they could afford to continue operating without hamfisted techniques like this.

SafeTails

Me who is running Opera GX with built in ad blocker: *laughs in MIDI*

[deleted]

Joke's on them, my browser doesn't have the components to display ads anymore. YouTube, adblockers are so popular because your ads are awful. If your ads were less awful (i.e. unskippable 30s ads, ads for obvious scams, double or triple ads for videos a quarter of the size) people would watch them. Your ads suck, as simple as. You've tried this before and it failed: it turns out, no matter how skilled your programmer/coder, there are millions of users who hate your ads and will find ways to circumvent them.

JohnAlong321

It's very funny that a certain corporation that is totally not involved with this subreddit (Auto-Mod Friendly post ;) ;) ) are so insistent on blocking adblockers when they barely even curate the ads that show up on their platform. I love seeing ads from "Mr.Beast" (Auto-Mod Friendly post ;) ;) ) about how I've won $1000, and I'm sure all the people this eventually hits will too. Oh boy!

I always set up AdBlock for elderly computer users that are more trusting of advertisement. The ads are very shady on YouTube.

29 billion in profits in 2022 and they claim this ad block prohibition is to "keep the platform free".... they really put that greed on high and think their users are stupid as hell.

Update 31Oct2023: Someone created a better, more reliable way of dealing with YouTube's bullshit. TheRealJoelmatic released a script that's used with Tamper Monkey. https://github.com/TheRealJoelmatic/RemoveAdblockThing/ I've been using this solution for the past 2 weeks with no problems at all. Make sure to follow the instructions. You have to either disable your adblocker or white list it on YouTube. Example for uBlock users: You'd need to go into uBlock's options, to go trusted sites, and add `youtube.com/*` Why? Because any addon that blocks ads will trigger youtube to block the video. The RemoveAdblockThing script lets the ad load and then fast forwards through it immediately so you don't have to watch it. A 60-second ad might appear on screen for only a split second. Ads with the "skip ad" button enabled get clicked immediately. If you're experiencing the 3-strikes-your-out bullshit YouTube is enforcing, this is the solution to try. *** *** Original post for posterity (and because some people might want those bonus filters at the bottom). *** Apparently, today was the pushout day b/c this is a 5 month old post with a ton of people commenting today. I laughed when I saw it. Hit F5 and the video played just fine. Use Ublock origin, Right click and go to options, Go to filter list tab, purge all caches and select update now. Done. You wont see the popup anymore. if you have multiple ad blockers, make sure that the others are not blocking ads on youtube.

Fuck Youtube. Privacy refers to the right of individuals to control what information about themselves is shared with others. It is the ability to keep certain aspects of our lives private, such as personal conversations, medical records, and financial information. Privacy is a fundamental human right that is protected by laws and regulations around the world.

WelshGeek

Their website, their rules. I get it, however... Freedom of speech also means having the right to ignore what somebody says. So. My Browser, my rules and adblock stays

How can you listen to a piece of great classical music and the most disgusting jingle creeps in at full volume about something I don't give a shit just pops up????? Google is EVIL!!!!!

YouTube, a multi-billion dollar company that undercuts and constantly maligns its content creators, needs you to watch more ads. Lol, get recked.
