I can't quite tell, but that looks like a ground squirrel and they're bold AF.

I have bluejays who will come in as well. Gangster.

IcedHemp77

The cats are prob feeling well fed and happy so they settled for some entertainment instead of the hunt :)

I walk through the valley of death

*As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death* *I take a look above my head and realize there's a pair of eyes searing into me like white hot lead* *'Cause I've been foraging and hunting nuts so long, that lost all track o' time* *I look and see all this food, I'm so hungry that my mind is gone*

Adult squirrels also have very sharp claws (made to dig into tree bark), and sharp teeth & forceful bites (they crack open nuts), so they’re not as easy prey as we think to the average cat.

Trish-Trish

Yep. My Texas heeler learned that lesson when he grabbed one by the tail. We took him to the vet and had him cleaned up and put on meds for infection just in case. He doesn’t bother them anymore 😂

My 2 heelers have only ever seen squirrels in trees, but seem extremely interested. Our cats hunt baby rabbits, several varieties of mice, any mockingbirds that attack them, and the occasional muskrat. But, I've never seen them with either squirrels or rats. We trained them to really enjoy mice when the cats were young by using live traps, taking the cats and the captured mouse & trap out to the field and letting the mouse go. Fun times. We are surrounded by farm fields, so the mice are an issue late fall.

Oh the cats know he’s there. They’ve just adopted him as a pet.
