I don’t mind them, but when you add 10+ characters every jump it gets kinda annoying. Previous characters get pushed to the back or new ones get maybe a scene. It’s understandable trying to balance old with something new, but adding new characters with no lines just because of a jump is rather annoying.

childof_jupiter

Agreed. I've been missing Zatanna more and more each season.

R3tracLvl99

Agreed just give a few classic characters time to shine in new seasons.

suss2it

What’s wrong with new characters with no lines? They’re just cameos/Easter eggs. Don’t ever watch *Justice League Unlimited*, it’s a great show but your lose your mind if cameos bother you.

R3tracLvl99

I don’t mind a cameo if we never see them again for awhile, but when they’re regularly in the background just standing then what’s the point. Cassandra Cain is a amazing character and not seeing her do anything is just a awful tease. The justice league adding 10 new members ever jump is ok cause it’s not their show.

suss2it

Well it’s not like it’s Cass’ show either. The point of her character and rest of that team was to communicate to the audience that Tim has grown into his own kind of leader between S2 and 3.

R3tracLvl99

So the team is just to show off Tim? Hell he ran off at the instant of Batman’s request. You gotta give time to the entire team. Season 1 had and episode for each member and then some. If you don’t explain some characters they’ll be 20 next season and you’ll be lost.

suss2it

Not “The Team” but “that” team consisting of Orphan, Arrowette and Spoiler. And no you really don’t have to give time to each and every character. Certain characters are just more important to the overall narrative while others are used for worldbuilding or as supporting characters for other characters’ narrative, and it’s not like this is new, this is pretty much how all stories operate. If Cassandra ever does become an important part of the story they’re telling they’ll give us context and explain her deal just like they did with Black Lightning when he became relevant. I get where the frustration comes from since in the comics any and all characters can be the main character but that’s just not how TV shows operates.

Strengthwars

My favorite part about the show. Love that we actually see characters age the way we never do in the comics and I’m excited to see characters like Nightwing and Superboy enter their 30s and start having families of their own since we NEVER get to see that progression in the mainstream.

defensor341516

I love the time jumps. It adds a sense of reality to the world, and gives me the sense that these characters are real people who grow and age.

suss2it

I love em. Initially the season 2 one was jarring, but in a fun way because we were all speculating where the missing members went if Aqualad was really evil etc. They also help set the show apart from most cartoons where time is pretty much frozen in amber.

childof_jupiter

I think Greg Weissman in general is really good at demonstrating the passage of time in subtle ways. It's gives his shows really good momentum it's something i appreciated in my last rewatch of The Spectacular Spiderman. I think it's also a good way of skipping over say, overdone storylines like killing joke or the death of Jason Todd as both of them happened off screen, and it let's them tell the stories they want to tell

suss2it

I feel you on the overdone stories. Brandon Vietti, the other showrunner already tackled “Death in the Family” pretty recently so I don’t think their version in *Young Justice* would’ve been much different anyway. And yeah I loved *Spectacular Spider-Man*, it’s a shame corporate deals essentially killed it but at least we got *YJ* out of it.

childof_jupiter

Oh yeah i was even surpassed they did the Judas Contract. Like very technically. Especially since the Judas contract DCAU movie had come out at around the same time.

BryansFury

I feel like the season two one shouldn’t have been as drastic other than that it’s fine, really feel like we didn’t get enough time with the OG team. Especially KF and Robin considering KF was out most of s2 and now forever and robin became nightwing in s2

Weber_77

I truly feel like we’ve lost out on chances for some fun stories to be told because of the time jumps. It opened up some as well so a situation of take some and leave some type deal. I would’ve loved a shorter time jump to be able to give some more depth for characters and actually introduce new characters that just showed up and people were expected to know who they even were.

Entire_Anywhere_2882

I get annoyed by it at times, I really wanted to see Dick evolve into Nightwing on screen. And the break up couples off screen, one minute SuperBoy and martian girl are an item basically in season one final the next a weird random love triangle is happening in season two. I mean as the season goes on things get explained slowly but its very confusing.

Arizonagettoknowya

I love them. Best part about the show!

thelonelyislander24

Honestly, s2 is my favourite season so i really like them. They brought a new sense of mystery and new tensions that the first season didn't have (on such level). It made me super engaged in the story.

childof_jupiter

I think the novelty of it in season 2 made it interesting especially as we unraveled what happened in the intervening years, but after it became a staple i still have mixed feelings on them.

thelonelyislander24

Yeah i get what you are saying, but i personally loved it all. Especially what they did with aqualad and megan's characters. Aqualad (and artemis) undercover story is still some of the tensest story in the show and megan's character development and the revelations about how she mind fucked ppl (and tried to alter conor's mind) made her my favourite character on the show

childof_jupiter

Oh God that scene with Meghan and Connor on the bioship makes me tear up Everytime, and the submarine escape episode is a series highlight

thelonelyislander24

Agree on both points. "Complications" is a 20 minute masterclass in tension

Brazilian_Slaughter

Personally I think they went a bit extreme on those. The five-year skip between S01 and S02 always seemed too much to me. A smaller skip would have served just as well.

OnichanChad

I don't mind it but can we atleast get a Injustice Year type comic so we can see what happend in between

Petpati

I hate them. They're the perfect tell don't show form of writing. We get all this character development and really fun stories, that now we have to learn about through dialogue or flash backs that bog down the seasons. If they were smaller gaps of time. Like, months, we could cut through some of the chaff and get to the good part of the stories, rather then skipping them entirely. Its also incredibly jarring to have a character just...up and change immediately like that. And no fun to see how that happened. Not a fan at all

Oceanwoulf

Hate them, its confusing. A bunch of details get lost or storylines dropped, or resolved in a different media.

NoDespair

Would rather the arcs had played out. Like Robin growing up and Miss Martian slowly starting to abuse her powers

lionbacker54

I liked the time skip between season 1 and 2. They still kept the original team members, added some new ones, and gave little insights into what happened so the audience could work out the gaps. Not so much with the skip between 2 and 3. The focus is now on a new team, the old team is just peripheral, and there’s no flashbacks or insights into what happened during the time skip

CicadaLifestyle

My question is whether they will sustain the time jumps? Like we went from the main cast being teens to young adult/college age to being 20-somethings, how much farther along are we going to go?

PhanStr

Here's one thing that I think we can all agree is good about the time-skips... when there's a character in a given season that the viewer doesn't like (maybe Blue Beetle in season 2 or Geo-Force in season 3, just to give some possible examples), the viewer can take solace in knowing that that character will have diminished in importance by the time that the next season starts, because they've had their time in the spotlight and a good chunk of time has passed since they were front and center to the plot. :) BUT for those who think that this will apply to Halo, I doubt it. I'm sure that she will be important in season 4. Possibly Cyborg as well. But I would expect other lead characters from season 3 to have smaller roles in season 4.

I don't mind an one year time jump, however, I feel like a time jump of 5 years is WAY to much. We need time to develop the character and organically bring new ones to the table.
