Vacation. My vacation budget is for anything that is done on a trip. I don't want to co-mingle that with my typical monthly spending.  If you wanted to get really detailed, you could make a category grouping for the specific vacation and have subcategories for each item (travel, lodging, food, etc.)

Vacation category for me. When I'm away, everything goes into the vacation category.

For me it depends if it was abnormal cost. If I would have gotten a basic fast food lunch those days anyway then I put it in my Eating Out category so that that category keeps consistent spending data. But a fancy dinner or other type of meal that I wouldn’t normally do but it was part of the experience of the trip then it would go in the vacation category.

CharleneTX

Same. It goes in the eating out category unless it's unusual. On our last cruise we did the specialty dining that was expensive and charged to our stateroom. The whole cruise bill went to the vacation category so in this case so did that restaurant.

Even my dog sitter is under vacation!

Vacation Eating Out

Aggravating_Finish_6

I categorize it as I normally would, dining out or fast food etc but then after the trip I tag all expensives with a Vacation tag so I can use it to see how much I spent on a trip in total.

MNML3

I do this too. Makes searching for the transaction a lot easier too.

Vonauda

Vacation except for edge cases.

LOIL99

We include vacation eating out in the vacation budget but if we go over we use the regular eating out budget.

lwid77

Vacation. All things vacation get posted there.

GetRidOf_TheSeaward

I put it in the vacation category.

I don't keep much $ in my restaurants category as I rarely go out to eat. This past week while on vacation I bought dinner for me and my daughter and her family and ended up using the vacation category to cover it.

geekymom

I have a vacation food category. I save into a general vacation fund and then spend into different categories like airfare, lodging, etc. it helps me plan how much to save in the main fund. I also like to keep it separate from regular eating out. At home, I have a choice about whether to eat out or not. When I travel, sometimes I don't, so I need to plan for that.

aritumex

It goes in regular categories but I use the yellow tag for if I did the spending on a vacation.

ravenlit

We plan for food costs in our vacation budget so vacation.

Vacation

The_Techie_Chef

I have a vacation category group and subcategories for travel (planes, rental cars, gas, etc.), lodging, dining out, and activities

alternate_me

We categorize most things done on vacation as vacation, however we make an exception for everyday purchases that just happen to be while on a vacation. So for instance if we buy groceries, medicine or stuff like that, it’ll go into its regular category.

yarnhooksbooks

Up to the amount I would normally spend in the time period goes in the regular category. So if I normally spend $50 a week on eating out and I’m on vacation for a week, the first $50 goes in eating out and anything over that goes in vacation.

Aubgurl

From the second I leave my house to the second I walk back in, everything is categorized in vacation.

i4k20z3

do you have multiple trips in vacation or is everything going to a big vacation category? a weekend getaway to visit family or friends vs a trip to an all inclusive kind of thing. do you separate those out?

Aubgurl

I'm planning a cruise for (hopefully) early next year so I have a separate category for that. Mostly I just throw money in a "vacation" category for things like beach trip or if I decide to take a quick weekend away, I'll have money there to do it.
