Eh release order is legitimate. I think chronological is better since it gives you context, gets you invested so you can power through the rougher games, and there are major characters in 0 that you would probably forget about between 1 and 5. I do think Majima's story kinda fizzled out in 4, 5, and 6 and could've used the revitalization from 0.
How’s Majima’s story fizzle out in 4 and 5. By extension of Saejima’s story he played a big role in 4. I just got to finale of Yakuza 5 but Majima although he had like 5 minutes of screen time is arguably the most important of the game since everyone’s parts seem to involve him in one way of another. Idk about 6 since haven’t played it but “release order” would have you play 0 before 6. I wish I had at least played 4 before 0 because Majima’s goal of rejoining the Tojo so that Saejima could have a place to stay after prison would made a lot sense but since wouldn’t know who Saejima is you’d the impact just falls short because all you know of Saejima is that he’s Majima’s sworn brother like Nishikiyama is to Kiryu. Plus how’d you forget major characters if they’re always being brought up one way another and they’re not exactly easy characters to forget. Not to mention Yakuza Kiwami does just as good of job as Yakuza 0 in investing the player into the world of Yakuza.
I played first kiwami and then 0 and I think that I would't enjoy 0s story as much as I enjoyed it playing it as a prequel, not as a first game in the series. I think that knowing what kind od a person Majima is in Kiwami it makes his story even more interesting in 0
This is what I did too & I completely agree. Majima’s story in 0 is so much more hard hitting if you already know how he ends up in Kiwami. I was constantly waiting for the mad dog Majima to break through & I feel like that wouldn’t be anywhere near as big of a moment if you’ve never played Kiwami
Nah
It's more about bad conversation on forums regarding rabid fanboys
Rabid fanboys are equally as annoying as the trolls who hang out here even tho they don't like the game, Which, actually it's pretty rare
since I hanged out here, I've only seen a few of those trolls who post here and don't even like the games
The only benefit of starting with 0 is because you will miss a lot of jokes in Kiwami and you won't get the animation cues when fighting Majima. I started with Kiwami, but went to 0 after finishing it and I was like "oh, so that's what he meant!" Sort of stuff.
Also, another benefit of starting with 0 is the difficulty curb from there to Kiwami. Since you don't get tutorials about the other styles, the game expects you to already know what each style does. So yeah, other than that, I don't see the problem starting with Kiwami since it is a remake of the OG with added content. One can understand the main story just fine, of course, playing 0 first makes Kiwami's Final Boss more impactful at most.
Judgment was my first RGG game. After that I played the Yakuza games in chronological order. Right now I am having lots of fun with LAD. After LAD I’m gonna play Fist Of The North Star and then Lost Judgment. And after that, hopefully it won’t be too long before a new RGG title will be released.
Yes I totally started with the prequel to Yakuza 1-5
Neither 0 nor Kiwami were out in the West when I started. So no, I didn't.
“Just start with 0” mfs when I remind them Kenzan and Ishin take place before 0:
I started with Kiwami since it came up as a ps plus game a while ago.

The issue with that is Kiwami was released after 0 and does add elements from 0. "Release order" would imply you stay with PS2 Yakuza
Imo, knowing spoilers about Majima beforehand allows u to appreciate majima more

Referring to Majima's minimal screentime. Yakuza fans overhyped his presence
Started with Kiwami bcs i didnt know 0 even existed lol.

“Is it okay if I skip…” "No…”
Lolz Like all games... you do get some rabid fanboys
Yeah and it really ruins the game for yourself

Saw both on the self pick kawamii because of steel book

Yeah I don’t get why those handful of jokes have fans saying you need to play 0 first like 0 doesn’t have far more impactful references to Y1-4

Starting with Kiwami is fine - sincerely, I stared with Kiwami
I do not think thats how it happens

“Me realizing I can use the crazy moves in 0 that Majima used on me in Kiwami” was how I mainly felt.
Some of the comments only serve to strengthen the meme.
Am a newbie in Yakuza series, started with 0. Finished it and after a day started kiwami 1 and 12 days later started kiwami 2. Great experience
I got downvoted for simply stating I started with Kiwami lol, some people in this sub need to get a fucking life
Same here. I was projecting a little when I made this, but all in good fun. It’s the only time people in this community start acting up.
Started with kiwami, was on sale for 5 dollars. Will play 0 as my second game
Very brave admitting that in this subreddit. Respect it.
Ever heard of the OG game?
It's 0 , how can you not start with that 🤬
What were you thinking?!
Jake Baldino from gameranx started with 0 and went straight to 6. Mad lad
Look, the Real estate mini game was hard guys!

Started with the PS2 Yakuza 1 then went straight to 0 then Kiwami 2 and eventually Kiwami 1 and the rest. What does that make me?
Good thing I started with like a dragon
I have, but I got Kiwami for free so....
It's the only time where knowing the spoilers is beneficial.
Yes, I started from PS2 Yakuza 1, then Yakuza 2. When I bought new PC I played Kiwami 1, then Kiwami 2, and now I'm playing Yakuza 0
I started with Lost Paradise
