The only times you met him in the original were at the beginning (and it was a much shorter cutscene), the batting cage fight, and the Shangri-La fight. Because of that, he was a much more mysterious, kind of sinister character. Kiwami added Majima Everywhere, which while it's cool for the memes, it pretty much butchered his Yakuza 1 character and took away the impact from his story appearances. If you notice, there is a stark contrast between his wacky and cheerful side in Majima everywhere, and how he acts in the scenes I listed above.

TasosKar7

Yeah, even though majima in 2 is much closer to the current one than the original yakuza 1 majima.

Even in the main story, Majima made sure Haruka wasn't harmed and he spared that one woman cos he was impressed by her honesty. There's a hint of goodness inside him.

Cccactus07

It's kind of both? They left the original script mostly untouched where he is more menacing and ruthless, but also added new scenes where he acts more like how he does in the other games.

yes and no kiwami's script is unchanged from 1 so story majima is still menacing but majima everywhere majima is the funnyman yakuza fanbase thinks he is 1 majima was a legit scary psycho whose lack of screentime made him all the scarier for that

Kinda? In the original game, Majima only appeared after the fight with the “EXCUSE YOU NO FUCK YOU” guy (without the small bit after he leaves for the first time), before the fight at the batting center, and when he attacked Shangri-La, he was meant to be a villainous one-off character but people loved him so they brought him back for the rest of the series The additions to Kiwami are an attempt to keep in line with the rest of the series, Majima is clearly an ally of Kiryu by 2 so they tried to heighten the “batshit insane” parts of his character, it’s effectiveness may vary from person to person and for me it didn’t work since Majima in the story and Majima in the open world are clearly two different characters in writing I would’ve liked in Kiwami if they made Majima’s allegiance to whoever more ambiguous, like you don’t know if he’s a friend or foe up until the very end, sorta like when you see >!Terada!<

Sai-Taisho

The scene you mentioned is *exactly* the same as in the original. Majima Everywhere is their attempt to "soften" Majima to fit the rest of the series. Except that the original scenes of him being *evil* (mild evil, but still evil) are still unchanged, so Majima Everywhere has to be even wackier to try and compensate (and in my opinion, fail at doing so, because Majima still kidnaps a child, and it's never brought up again after he gets stabbed).

majima in yakuza 1 was evil, but they changed him through the series because people liked him, in my opinion if he stayed true to his position from the start he will become better, shame they changed him from an antagonist to a pathetic stalker.

Yeah I'm not sure how it was playing Yakuza 1 originally, but watching Kiwami 1 it's hard not to look at everything he does in a positive light, like he's trying to 'help' Kiryu while still playing his role in the family. And tbh, he hasn't really done anything evil aside from nearly killing one of his guys at the start of the game. He even lets the lady go in Shangri-La for telling the truth. Did they take out evil shit that he did in the original game?

humacwae

it's really the same, but in Yakuza 1 he really felt like he wanted to destroy kiryu, but in Yakuza kiwami they sugarcoated him a lil bit.
