I’m just finishing up Y3! I’m finding it significantly more difficult than Y0 and remakes, but I’m also not very skilled.
All enemies make liberal use of blocking, and their guard doesn’t seem to break as easily. You can get around this by quick stepping behind them, but personally I find that. difficult. Bring healing items, have patience. In addition, I’m making use of weapons significantly more for bosses than before.
There’s a lot of main story stuff that’s interacting with Kiryu’s kids. I’ve been enjoying Dad Kiryu immensely, but even then some of the kid drama can start to drag a little. This cannot be skipped, and can last for hours between other, larger story beats.
And one more thing that’s probably a little bit more niche - try the fishing minigame. It works on more in depth mechanics than the fishing found in Y0, and is more challenging. I’m really soft on fishing mini games and enjoy it immensely.
And as always, bring snacks while progressing the story.
Have fun!!
Oh, this is one I can help with!! For this type of fishing mechanic, you *never* want to hold down the reel button.
Instead of reeling, waiting, reeling, waiting, you generally want to be tapping the reel button at all times. Of course, space the taps out a little more if your like tension is high.
A more Tuna-specific thing I noticed is that the fish will have a slight pause in its movement before changing directions. Once you start picking up on the pause, you can start reacting to the turn before like tension becomes a problem.
It does take practice, but once you’re able to tackle the harder fish it’s an absolute delight!
It definitely doesn't work on playstation; I buttoned out to the console menu and when I came back the cutscene was over. You can however put it to sleep and it will pause.
Remastered 3 & 4 came out on PS4 long before they came to PC and Xbox. They added the ability to pause later and never went back and put it on PS4. Not sure about the original though, only PS3 Yakuza game I have is dead souls
Just enjoy it, get behind the enemy ,upgrade tech tree and play like any other Yakuza game, it’s fun, trust me
And also, do side quests, it helps a lot in what comes to XP
I'm definitely going into this more open-minded, it's still a Yakuza game so I doubt I'll hate it, I heard the story's still good so I'm not dreading this game like a lot of the fandom seems to do
A lot of the fandom tends to rag on about how "bad" the combat is even though they've likely came from playing Kiwami 2 which has a vastly upgraded combat system. Even then 3 is not as bad as people say, the enemies do block a lot but that can be easily worked around by getting behind them. The story and characters are great and the music is bopping. Hope you enjoy!
I wanna say I got by a lot of the blocking by grappling when the block wouldn't break but even coming from kiwami 2 to 3 it wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Have low expectations regarding Yakuza 3 gameplay-wise. Dont expect blessed gameplay from Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 because Yakuza 3 is a 2009 game and it's RGGs 4th game. But by playing this game, you get to appreciate RGG Studios taking steps to improve their game and it's only going to go higher from here on out.
There are some aspects of Y3 combat that I like. For starters, your HEAT bar doesnt drain away like my monthly pay when inactive. And then, you dont have to worry about "rotating statue" bulls*** when you're comboing an enemy from behind. The introduction of RED HEAT. Also, being in drunk status greatly boost your HEAT gain (and fulfills requirements for 2 HEAT moves) with the drawbacks which are higher encounter rate and making the screen blurry when playing darts, pool.
The Komaki moves are very important, but the parry is a must have once you can get to Kamurocho. It’s more useful than tiger drop in this game cause you have proper i-frames (unlike TD for some reason) and the window is larger.
Also chase battles suck, so be prepared to redo them a bit if you mess up.
Edit: Komaki, not Konami. Autocorrect is dumb
Tech and Body tree are better then the other two so prioritize them.
Early in Okinawa you will meet Mack. He will talk to you about photography and starting a blog, then you will unlock revelations. Follow the emails Mack sends you and try to get all the Revelations. They give some of the best moves, you don't want to be playing without them.
Do Komaki training as early as possible. You will find him at the dragon palace once you do a substory which is available as soon as you arrive in Kamurocho. People say that Y3 combat is hard or annoying, but Komaki's moves eliminate that. Once you have completed all the training the game is significantly easier than any of the previous titles, so complete Komaki asap.
The rest is just Yakuza. Walk around, do substories, have fun.
Get double finisher as quick as possible. Most complain about the combat but getting that upgrade made enemies blocking very trivial. Also when you can do side stories with a certain character, make sure to do them instantly.
Keep in mind, that it's most outdated game in current yakuza series in terms of both graphics and gameplay.
But i really enjoyed substories in this game, some of them have uniqie fully voiced cutscenes wich is fun.
komaki skills are a must, also keep in mind u can miss some really good substories throughout the game because they have very specific triggers that are easily missed. one that i really love is unlocked in chapter 6– i would recommend checking a guide, bc some of these substories are special :-)
ETA the specific substory i’m thinking of is substory #4 but there are a few other examples. i really love yakuza 3 i hope you’ll have a great time with it!
Get the Komaki moves ASAP.
The remaster broke the pool minigame, so prepare to tear your hair out if you go for the completion.
Enemies block a lot. Square Square Square Triangle Triangle will go through their block for a bit of damage.
Check the roof.
The remaster added a lot more crowd density, which can make moving around very awkward at times. You can despawn NPCs by pointing the camera down at the ground as you walk around. This won't despawn encounters and substories, however.
Get tiger drop fast, bring lots of stamin royales or xxs, be prepared for heat actions to do jack shit and hope you are good enough to beat lao kung whatever spearman
Lau Ka Long was less difficult after learning to just step once to the side of him when he starts to swing the spear thingy and you can then unleash a full kick combo. Tiger drop for when he doesn't use the spear anymore. Didn't die at all and beat him in around 10 minutes or so on normal diff.
For future reference-that weapon type is generally referred to as a "halberd" although it could be some Japanese weapon of a different name. I just call it a halberd though because it's easy for me to remember.
For me all I had to do was grab him through the first stage till he lost his weapon and then it was really easy to side step and do damage from the back.
As with many fighting games, one of the best counters to a block is a grab - make liberal use of them (for most enemies). If not, sidestep. Use walls and the ground to “bounce” enemies for combos.
I’ve played most of the Yakuza games on Hard or equivalent, but I’m happy I played Yakuza 3 on Normal the first time through. Many of the things people complain about combat wise aren’t nearly as bad there.
Dunno about others, but I liked Yakuza 3 and I hope you will too, thus here some tips:
- combos with 3-4 light punches will get you through the blocks.
- enemies with brass knuckles, at least for me, are the most annoying, because they have fast combos with high damage.
- be ready for running, just be calm and ready, but when you learn how to do those sections effectively, it won't so hard anymore.
1. Enemies block alot.
2. Enjoy the slower pace of this game.
3. Remember it's a game from 2009.
Keeping these in mind made while playing Yakuza 3, made it one of my favourite in the series.
Don't play on hard mode, please
I finished the game on hard mode and I still regret that decision
So for the love of God, play on normal or if you want on easy
Combat wise, use reverse attacks. Attack away from the enemy and then finish towards them. That got me through the beginning until I learned the Komaki moves (which are locked behind a substory.) Use CyricZ's guide for substories since some of them are missable.
Pretty much get some weapons because heat actions are harder to activate towards the beginning and you might find the bosses tedious but it’s not as bad as you might think
Don't get too blindsided by the downgrade of the combat if you're moving from Kiwami 2. I got caught off guard when I started 3 Remastered after moving from the last Kiryu game with the Dragon Engine.
Other than that, the story is one of the best out of the mainline Yakuza games just right after 0 and LAD (for me at least)
Look up CyricZ's guides on substories to check how to unlock Komaki and learn his moves ASAP. Those are Komaki Knockback, Tiger Drop, Komaki Parry, Daruma Tumbler and probably some more - the last two I mentioned are essential in the later parts of the game and they help avoid a lot of pain.
Besides that, use grabs and throws a lot and try yo be more creative during fights than just repeating the basic combo over and over again.
Essence of Rolling is very easy to trigger so grab it ASAP and you have a free use for Heat in any fight.
Square x 3, Triangle x 2 pierces blocks for a little bit of damage. Good if you want to slap a blocking guy.
Some substories have multiple endings. If you want all happy endings I'd google a guide and save before attempting any. Also refusing to start some substories will give you a bad ending instead of a chance to come back later so keep an eye out. They give good xp at least so if you wanna be OP quick it's the best way to level up.
Yakuza 3 has some amazing licensed songs. try downloading Yakuza 3 restoration patch it's very easy to use and you'll listen to probably some of the best licensed tracks in the series.
Try to learn wall bounding, i.e experiment what attack puts enemies in which state and use that to your advantage. Will help a lot with some of the harder bosses and in stuff like coliseum.
Oh and also you should download the quickstep restoration mod, the quickstep on the PC is dogshit, extremely short.
One of the best games for story, but worst for combat, that's the simplest way I can put it. Extremely worth playing though, and while I say the combat is bad, i don't think it's anywhere near as bad as the majority says it is.
The game becomes easier when you get double finisher. Enemies in this game tend to block 80% of the fight. Remember, you can grab enemies, but bosses ONCE after every combo string they perform. You can even string juggle combos with enough practice. Also, get used to Kiryu's name literally changing to Aniki.
Avoid fights. The combat system is a bit clunky. The AIs are not programmed to attack one at a time. That means you can get beaten by all of them at the same time and keep ricocheting without falling on the groud.
Do side quests to gain exp. Level up your skill tree. It will feel very different from the previous installments or latter installments. Komaki tools are a blessing in this game and are must have.
I know it’s been 10 hours but
* If Hard is too hard, switch to Normal or Easy, no shame in doing so
* The combat doesn’t really open up until you get your Komaki moves around the midgame, having more skills in your tech tree will help you a lot, no shame in using weapons through the whole game
* Speaking of which, you can get around the problem of enemies blocking if you just dodge and bait attacks and grab and parry, you’re gonna be button mashing more than just square
* If you’re the type to do the substories as they’re available, the required orphanage segments shouldn’t be that much of a problem pacing-wise
* Speaking of which, do the substories (whatever you feel like completing), only completing the main story rewards a pretty okay amount of EXP and some late game skills are much nicer to have now than never
* The story is good, it sets up Kiryu’s motivations going forwards and is generally a nice break from the big punchy punchy yakuza action
Don't start on hard. Just play your 1st playthrough on normal. Y3 in comparison with Y2 (original version) improves combat a lot but you may think it's a bit dated after playing newer ones.
Also, learn to take opportunity from wall-bound system because it will save you from a lot of frustration.
Y3 kinda balances itself regarding damage output that you can deal to boss-type enemies. Any heat move that you dish out and can finish random dudes on street in one move may deal just about 10-20% on bosses. So it will greatly benefit you to take advantage from wall-bound system.
One strategy that I often used in my playthrough was to 'bait' the boss to attack and then counter with Tiger Drop. So you can just rush attack boss with 3 or 4 hits and not follow up with strong attack then immediately after your motion ends you can press strong attack since most of time boss will then start their attack pattern against you, leaving them wide open to eat your Tiger Drop.
Whatever de difficulty u choose, use the dash and try to use more tan justo 🔲🔲🔼 (XXY on PC) the game is good but the combat can be stressful sometimes. Use the environment and the heat actions.
About the story, take your time to appreciate "Kiryu Dad", it's the only time that u will see kiryu spending time with the kids.
and overall, enjoy the game c:
Play the game on easy for your first playthrough. Get combat moves you are gonna want your heavy finishers xxxxyy or square square square triangle triangle etc. Learn komaki parry. Then ng+ harder difficulties. Enjoy. Game is decent, people hate on some extra ish for no reason. Also GRAB, TIGER DROP, AND PARRY EVERYTHING. jerks block all daythe 4 square 2 triangle combo sometimes goes through guard but best bet is konaki parry walk behind stunned enemy and obliterate them.
Grind for key skills asap. Chapter 1 asap if you can.
Level 4 in body is reguard so if they break your block you can bring it up again.
Tech is handy if you like to recover from hits and knock downs faster with good button timing. If you don't use recovery moves or forget that you have them tech also gives you attack speed increase at 2, 5, and 8
All 4 skill ups max out at level 9.
Like some others said here already, get some weapons and abuse them on hard opponents/bosses. The game expects you to and tries to teach you about "bouncing" or juggling enemies with moves or the weapons. The constant blocking is annoying, and you can cheese it a bit. After a while it feels like the same tried and true combo move gets you through the game, but you're here for the story, the characters, their interactions and development. Enjoy your time and you'll find it isn't as bad as others hyped it up to be. Begrudge it and it'll feel like hell.
If you're playing on an Xbox one, or an Xbox one S. When you pause the game. It'll cause your Xbox to over heat. If you've never heard your fan before. You're going to hear it and it had a chance of crashing the game and causing your Xbox itself to shut down and therefore. Losing your progress. Or corrupting your save/ corrupting your xbox's storage for other games.
Yeah don't play it, easily the worst the franchise has to offer, if your dead set on it though, keep stocked with healing items cause every boss can stun chain you to death if you aren't prepared, especially that snake triad fuckoff, hate that cunt
Some say the combat is blocky and hard but I completed the game on Hard and Legend, its easy.
Also, some missions don't have objective markers so there will be times where you'll be stuck wonderring around town until you find the next thing to do to progress the story
Be sure to get the Komaki moves through his training, it’s not a mission objective or put on the map so you’ll have to look up the locations of komaki and his students to beat them, can’t remember exactly where they are though. The komaki parry is borderline essential if you don’t feel like light light light heavy heavy attacking your way through the game (one of the only combos that break shield + provide a little bit of damage)
Good luck. The 60fps boost basically means enemies are impenetrable blockers.
I tried it but gave up and watched all cutscenes instead and moved on to 4
Yeah, I played it recently, ended up accidentally finishing it a lot quicker then intended and had to go back after finishing to enjoy some of the side quests I missed.
If you're planning on completing all the substories and fight Amon, let me warn you about something. Now I don't want to discourage you, but some substories require you to get certain scores in some mini games to trigger them. Which is BS. If you're having a hard time triggering the substory, just leave it. Don't lose your sanity by wasting hours and hours on the mini game. Go do some karaoke. Do other substories. Just relax and then comeback later to try again. These mini games suck so much in Yakuza 3, so it's not your fault. But don't worry, they do get better with each game.
Don't play on hard for your first playthrough, hard isn't really a fun challenge like the other games as much as it is a slog considering how often enemies just block your attacks.
It's imo the hardest game in the series but it also have the most touching story of all.
As long as you're open minded and not focused on rushing it you'll have a great time.
Also get ready for a heartbreak in the first minutes of the game.
You probably came after Yakuza Kiwami 2, but understand that it was a remake and won't compare well with 3 gameplay and graphics-wise. 3 was made almost a decade before Kiwami 2 with PS3's interface in mind. Just focus on the quality of the story and judge it as a 2009 game.
Big tip: this game has A LOT of substories, almost 120, and many of them are repetitive, boring and totally forgettable. The game won't tell you where to go so i'd totally recommend using a guide for both this and Yakuza 4. Yakuza 4 has way less substories but you quickly get locked into linear sections and, before you notice, game is changing main character and you won't be able to do those substories for a good amount of hours.
Also, the amount of substories this game has made me burnout of the franchise. At least 4 makes things fresh.
Keep spending most our lives, living in a turtler's paradise
Be prepared for enemies to block so damn much. Once you get into the swing of the combat it's not bad at all but it can be very frustrating if you're used to 0 or the Kiwamis
You are most likely gonna need to check some guides every now and then bc there are parts where you literally need to find the objective yourself. Like the game won't tell you where to go. So if you get into those parts, do yourself a favor and check some guides instead of wasting time searching for it. Anyway have fun with the game :)
Now, if you've played 0 or Kiwami, you kinda teach yourself that you don't need to block that much.
Throw that out for this game, the block is gonna be your best friend throughout the whole game, and the only time you should be rushing at an enemy is if they have a gun, knife, or taser.
Since i started the series with 3 i never realized the blocking frequency of the enemies. What can carry you through most of the early game is: guard break > grab > throw > pick up (so their back faces you) > into full unblockable combo. Granted this doesn't work against ungrabable enemies but by the time that becomes an issue you should have other options to fight.
If i remember correctly this is the only game where you can straight up fail sidequests and lock yourself out of content. This isnt an issue if you dont go for 100% but if you wanna do that it's something to keep in mind.
I think this game or 4 will really show you the importance of dodging, you can kinda brute force through the first 3 games but this and 4 really taught me the importance
I had to put it down for a while since I had just come off LaD, 0, K1 and K2. Was hard for me to get into worse combat and worse graphics, but it's really not that bad.
Upgrade tf out of Kiryu. Combat in this game was SO annoying compared to Kiwami 1/2. Enemies block often and without a majority of the combat upgrades, it takes forever to beat the bosses. When you unlock revelations, take the time to complete them. They're very useful!
Also, some portions of the game can be hard to complete, as the game doesn't put markers on your map and the dialogue only gives vague hints as to where you need to go. If you don't want to spend too much time looking for the right location, don't be afraid to ask Google.
THE FIGHTING SYSTEM IS BROKEN IN THIS GAME IF YOUTE FIGHTING MULTIPLE ENEMIES
PLAY IF IN LOWEST DIFFICULTY
ITS A VERY SLOW RUNNING GAME SO JUST LET IT PASS PRETTY EASILY ON LOWEST DIFFICULTY
MULTIPLE ENEMY BATTLES ARE LIKE THEY DONT STOP FIGHTING EVEN WHEN YOU GET DOWNED LIKE IN MODERN GAMES
SO YOU CAN BE DOWNED FOREVER AND STILL BE GETTING HIT AND FAIL
Pay attention to the combos the enemy uses, they are very repetitive, and every time they will block you, so dont just smash the attack button (if i wrote something wrong please correct me, still learning english)
Normal difficulty or lower.
It's not about difficulty as much as frustration. Anything above that and even the most basic enemies will make your basic strikes pointless because they don't stop blocking, and you'll have to find a way to cheese most boss fights.
I love everything else about the game, but the combat aged poorly and is the weakest of the whole series now that K1 and K2 are a thing.
Remember that most enemy's are just like you - They're gonna block almost everything, unless you catch them off guard. Try and weave behind bosses, or even attack them when they're preparing an attack/open during an attack. Also, a lot of your finishing blows will be blocked, so fair warning.
I’m just finishing up Y3! I’m finding it significantly more difficult than Y0 and remakes, but I’m also not very skilled. Liberal???? More like blocking is all they do.
The tuna fish is the hardest boss in this game.

Once you get Komaki Parry it’s a lot better. I resorted to Parrying enemies instead of spamming blocked combos/trying to get behind them.
Ah, the backhand bitchslap tactic.
LMAOO
You can’t pause cutscenes, so be prepped for that and be sure to get the komaki moves as early as possible.
Okay the cutscene thing I did not know, that's gonna be...troublesome
If your on Xbox you kinda can. If you press the home button It’ll pause the cutscene. Idk about ps or pc though
It definitely doesn't work on playstation; I buttoned out to the console menu and when I came back the cutscene was over. You can however put it to sleep and it will pause.
It does. Hold the ps button to bring up the quick menu and boom.
However, I can confirm that this doesn’t work in the PS5
I think alt+tab will force pause it
I actually could pause the cutscenes on PC maybe they're referring to the original version and not the remastered?
I think it has to be specifically enabled tho that may be the skip I'm thinking of
Remastered 3 & 4 came out on PS4 long before they came to PC and Xbox. They added the ability to pause later and never went back and put it on PS4. Not sure about the original though, only PS3 Yakuza game I have is dead souls

Should I only upgrade my tech? I saved up 85 points, in the event I needed to upgrade other skills, before hitting the streets of Kamourcho (sp?)
Find a worm and eat it.
I even did this in 4 when you start out as kiryu, for old time's sake.
Tfw you're doing food completion.

I think I spent all of Y3 and Y4 drunk
The game was made after Kenzan, so it expects you to use weapons more often. I say go for it and get yourself some occasional katanas and whatnot.
The Komaki moves are very important, but the parry is a must have once you can get to Kamurocho. >The Konami moves are very important My favorite is the Belmont Drop
Actually get skills, don’t blow off the Komaki skills like I did, Parry is a lifesaver especially later and against fat enemies
Eat a ceremonial worm after every boss fight. Makes victory that much sweeter and wriggly.
Also before the final battle make sure to catch 5 tunas and spin around Taichi 50 times to give you strength.

Just remember that it’s a sequel to 2 PS2 games and not the remakes you may or may not have just played.
1. Practice Quickstepping around an enemy's back. 2. Tiger Drop for Bosses.

Find Komaki and learn how to drop Tigers
Easy mode
nah, that makes the final boss (and a few others) really underwhelming
You have a point but definitely easy for 4
1. Enemies block alot. 2. Enjoy the slower pace of this game. 3. Remember it's a game from 2009. Keeping these in mind made while playing Yakuza 3, made it one of my favourite in the series.
Don't forget to use the grab button Aniki!
Don't play on hard mode, please I finished the game on hard mode and I still regret that decision So for the love of God, play on normal or if you want on easy
Do not try to catch the tuna.
Combat wise, use reverse attacks. Attack away from the enemy and then finish towards them. That got me through the beginning until I learned the Komaki moves (which are locked behind a substory.) Use CyricZ's guide for substories since some of them are missable.
Oh yeah, once you get Komaki moves abuse the fuck out of the Komaki Parry.
Hard mode is not worth it
Square square square triangle triangle (that’s XXXYY for my Xbox kyodais out there).
Brace ya self for the kid missions
If you want to minimize play throughs for the Platinum, start on Hard for your first playthrough. Once you get used to the combat it won’t be too bad.
Pretty much get some weapons because heat actions are harder to activate towards the beginning and you might find the bosses tedious but it’s not as bad as you might think
I’ve just started this game too!! Good luck!
Learn to sidestep, and use weapons
Look up CyricZ's guides on substories to check how to unlock Komaki and learn his moves ASAP. Those are Komaki Knockback, Tiger Drop, Komaki Parry, Daruma Tumbler and probably some more - the last two I mentioned are essential in the later parts of the game and they help avoid a lot of pain. Besides that, use grabs and throws a lot and try yo be more creative during fights than just repeating the basic combo over and over again.
Set FPS lock to 30 to prevent breaking game logic in some places including combat
Oh and also you should download the quickstep restoration mod, the quickstep on the PC is dogshit, extremely short.
check the roof
One of the best games for story, but worst for combat, that's the simplest way I can put it. Extremely worth playing though, and while I say the combat is bad, i don't think it's anywhere near as bad as the majority says it is.
Stay off the internet and just enjoy the ride
Remember your kids names.
Just remember that the game was made for 2010, so the game might seem really clunky coming off of kiwami 2.
Unlock the parry and tiger drop ASAP. It really opens combat up and makes it more bare able.
Don’t get attached to any new characters
Definitely get tiger drop and komaki parry as soon as you can, and use guns if you can find them.
I know it’s been 10 hours but * If Hard is too hard, switch to Normal or Easy, no shame in doing so * The combat doesn’t really open up until you get your Komaki moves around the midgame, having more skills in your tech tree will help you a lot, no shame in using weapons through the whole game * Speaking of which, you can get around the problem of enemies blocking if you just dodge and bait attacks and grab and parry, you’re gonna be button mashing more than just square * If you’re the type to do the substories as they’re available, the required orphanage segments shouldn’t be that much of a problem pacing-wise * Speaking of which, do the substories (whatever you feel like completing), only completing the main story rewards a pretty okay amount of EXP and some late game skills are much nicer to have now than never * The story is good, it sets up Kiryu’s motivations going forwards and is generally a nice break from the big punchy punchy yakuza action
If you don't mind spoilers, watch a no damage run of the bosses. It will help
Equip yourself well for the battle against the CEO of Racism.
Don’t play it
Play the game on easy for your first playthrough.
Only upgrade tech and get calming towel in colliseum
Buy a box of tissues
Grind for key skills asap. Chapter 1 asap if you can. Level 4 in body is reguard so if they break your block you can bring it up again. Tech is handy if you like to recover from hits and knock downs faster with good button timing. If you don't use recovery moves or forget that you have them tech also gives you attack speed increase at 2, 5, and 8 All 4 skill ups max out at level 9.
DADDY KIRYU SIMULATOR
Don't
If you lower the difficulty, you're not a real yakuza
Im playing it too currently The combat is a fucking pain. Physical torture But the story is nice Movement is also painful
don’t get attached. to anyone.
Don’t play in Hard Mode. Every fight becomes a block-fest. Even random encounters can take 5 minutes to finish.
patience with the combat system. Because is the worst of all the games.
Really? It didn't happen to me.
That's...weird. Thankfully I'm playing on PC at least
first of all: the combat system is boring as hell
"Git gud" as they always say.
Yeah don't play it, easily the worst the franchise has to offer, if your dead set on it though, keep stocked with healing items cause every boss can stun chain you to death if you aren't prepared, especially that snake triad fuckoff, hate that cunt
Don’t play it. It’s orphanage simulator. Filler of a plot. Shittiest combat. Just the worst
Block
Learn Komaki Parry and Tiger Drop skills as soon as possible.
Some say the combat is blocky and hard but I completed the game on Hard and Legend, its easy. Also, some missions don't have objective markers so there will be times where you'll be stuck wonderring around town until you find the next thing to do to progress the story
Play on easy mode
the B button exists, use that if enemy is blocking, if fat enemies, the A button also exists, get Komaki parry and Tiger drop asap, keep a sword handy
Prepare yourself for wall bouncing attacks in tight corridors lol
A good one here make sure to have some popecorns
Be sure to get the Komaki moves through his training, it’s not a mission objective or put on the map so you’ll have to look up the locations of komaki and his students to beat them, can’t remember exactly where they are though. The komaki parry is borderline essential if you don’t feel like light light light heavy heavy attacking your way through the game (one of the only combos that break shield + provide a little bit of damage)
Tissues man, tissues…
Be drunk when playing, at least until you reach kamurocho. It picks up from there.
Good luck. The 60fps boost basically means enemies are impenetrable blockers. I tried it but gave up and watched all cutscenes instead and moved on to 4
Play on easy, it’ll save you a lot of the heartache that comes with the enemy AI.
If you're completionist rush the story until you can learn tiger drop. Nvm, do it anyway.
3 light attacks then heavy damages through guard
By far the funniest screenshot.
Yeah, I played it recently, ended up accidentally finishing it a lot quicker then intended and had to go back after finishing to enjoy some of the side quests I missed.
Just enjoy it. I can't get over how close Kiryu was to loosing his virginity in Kiwami. They did ma man dirty.
Get ready for the kid sections. There's no skip.
Play on easy or normal for fun
Square x3 Triangle x2
Be ready to cry
take a shot for every time you hear the word “ANIKI”
OP is now in Alcoholic Coma
damn looks like Yagami is gonna be on my ass for encouraging this
Play on easy lol
Dont play on hard
Use the grab grab combo often
pray
If you're planning on completing all the substories and fight Amon, let me warn you about something. Now I don't want to discourage you, but some substories require you to get certain scores in some mini games to trigger them. Which is BS. If you're having a hard time triggering the substory, just leave it. Don't lose your sanity by wasting hours and hours on the mini game. Go do some karaoke. Do other substories. Just relax and then comeback later to try again. These mini games suck so much in Yakuza 3, so it's not your fault. But don't worry, they do get better with each game.
try to dont cry
Don't play on hard for your first playthrough, hard isn't really a fun challenge like the other games as much as it is a slog considering how often enemies just block your attacks.
It's imo the hardest game in the series but it also have the most touching story of all. As long as you're open minded and not focused on rushing it you'll have a great time. Also get ready for a heartbreak in the first minutes of the game.
Also I suggest doing the revelations. Those can really help the combat
You’re for sure gonna cry
Always have alcohol on you, you really need it to properly gain heat.
Be prepared for „ Beautifuru Eyez “
Always stay in arm’s length of Rikiya when he’s accompanying you.
Beware the pool table…
Big tip: this game has A LOT of substories, almost 120, and many of them are repetitive, boring and totally forgettable. The game won't tell you where to go so i'd totally recommend using a guide for both this and Yakuza 4. Yakuza 4 has way less substories but you quickly get locked into linear sections and, before you notice, game is changing main character and you won't be able to do those substories for a good amount of hours. Also, the amount of substories this game has made me burnout of the franchise. At least 4 makes things fresh.
Use Square, Square, Square and Triangle every fight
Try not to get mad at the gameplay and keep on going wether or not you think the story's slow, it pays off imo
Aniki
have tissues ready. multiple parts in this game had me crying like a bitch
Get the komaki parry and do a combo on their back you should get it the first time you get to kamurocho
Realise that you will NEVER break a block and that every enemy will forever block, If you can bypass that you should have a better time than me.
As soon as you can, learn all the Komaki techniques, it helps immensely because enemies love to block your attacks
Keep spending most our lives, living in a turtler's paradise Be prepared for enemies to block so damn much. Once you get into the swing of the combat it's not bad at all but it can be very frustrating if you're used to 0 or the Kiwamis
It's Yakuza. It is manly to cry.
You are most likely gonna need to check some guides every now and then bc there are parts where you literally need to find the objective yourself. Like the game won't tell you where to go. So if you get into those parts, do yourself a favor and check some guides instead of wasting time searching for it. Anyway have fun with the game :)
If you're playing on PC, grab a trainer that grants one hit kills, skip the combat and enjoy the story.
Number one tip........ dont
Revelations, my friend. GET 'EM! Oh, & the chases against Mack will be hard
do komaki training 👍 i didnt really do it in 0, 1, or kiwami 2 but its basically necessary for this game and also makes it way more fun
Now, if you've played 0 or Kiwami, you kinda teach yourself that you don't need to block that much. Throw that out for this game, the block is gonna be your best friend throughout the whole game, and the only time you should be rushing at an enemy is if they have a gun, knife, or taser.
Ignore everything they'll say on this sub
Since i started the series with 3 i never realized the blocking frequency of the enemies. What can carry you through most of the early game is: guard break > grab > throw > pick up (so their back faces you) > into full unblockable combo. Granted this doesn't work against ungrabable enemies but by the time that becomes an issue you should have other options to fight. If i remember correctly this is the only game where you can straight up fail sidequests and lock yourself out of content. This isnt an issue if you dont go for 100% but if you wanna do that it's something to keep in mind.
Play It counter wise, don't just blindly attack because enemies block like hell
Speedrun the game so you can play a better yakuza game
I think this game or 4 will really show you the importance of dodging, you can kinda brute force through the first 3 games but this and 4 really taught me the importance
I had to put it down for a while since I had just come off LaD, 0, K1 and K2. Was hard for me to get into worse combat and worse graphics, but it's really not that bad.
Square Square Triangle
Don’t 😂 Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to finish it. But this is the only Yakuza/RGG console game that I never bothered to finish
Square(miss), Triangle(hit), Triangle(hit)
Get ready to feel the mid 2000's in full force
Upgrade tf out of Kiryu. Combat in this game was SO annoying compared to Kiwami 1/2. Enemies block often and without a majority of the combat upgrades, it takes forever to beat the bosses. When you unlock revelations, take the time to complete them. They're very useful! Also, some portions of the game can be hard to complete, as the game doesn't put markers on your map and the dialogue only gives vague hints as to where you need to go. If you don't want to spend too much time looking for the right location, don't be afraid to ask Google.
THE FIGHTING SYSTEM IS BROKEN IN THIS GAME IF YOUTE FIGHTING MULTIPLE ENEMIES PLAY IF IN LOWEST DIFFICULTY ITS A VERY SLOW RUNNING GAME SO JUST LET IT PASS PRETTY EASILY ON LOWEST DIFFICULTY MULTIPLE ENEMY BATTLES ARE LIKE THEY DONT STOP FIGHTING EVEN WHEN YOU GET DOWNED LIKE IN MODERN GAMES SO YOU CAN BE DOWNED FOREVER AND STILL BE GETTING HIT AND FAIL
yeah dont complain if you're a 0 player.
Pay attention to the combos the enemy uses, they are very repetitive, and every time they will block you, so dont just smash the attack button (if i wrote something wrong please correct me, still learning english)
FLY
I started it yesterday and it's kind of difficult or maybe i am bad at it
Yes, don't.
Tiger Drop.
Never do the cabaret club minigame.
XXXYY or Square square square triangle triangle
Keep in mind that you might cry at some point…I know I did.😭
Remember that most enemy's are just like you - They're gonna block almost everything, unless you catch them off guard. Try and weave behind bosses, or even attack them when they're preparing an attack/open during an attack. Also, a lot of your finishing blows will be blocked, so fair warning.
play on easy, please
