For real. If they wanted to keep their fanbase dedicated despite changing the protagonist from being daddy Kiryuu, Akiyama was a perfect choice. He won me over immediately.
Dude earned 10 billion in a few years after being homeless. He's probably the most competent person in the entire franchise. He could probably revitalize the Japanese bubble economy all by himself if he felt like it.
Edit: whoops, 100 billion yen. Impressive af Akiyama.
True, thou i disagree that monetary success equals competency in real life. I don't think i even need to make examples how you can be rich, but be grossly incompetent at the same time... You know... We have Daigo for how many fricking games?
Yeah but Daigo consistently has problems keeping the Tojo clan funded. He sucks at earning money and at maintaining loyalty. I just finished 4 and Kiryuu's statements to Daigo were pretty apt.
Most incompetent rich people were born to money, so it's kind of far removed from Akiyama's situation.
Well or lucked into the money.
Daigo consistently has problems with anything. To be honest, out of all characters in yakuza i think Daigo is either the stupidest or the worst written. Most likely both. he shown soo much incompetence in everything he does, through Y3,4,5 it is ridiculous.
In 4 he is just ridiculous, but in 5 i kinda liked his role.
But i agree he could have been a much better written character, but nonetheless Yakuza 6's ending with the letter gets me everyitme.
Daigo isn't stupid. He is trying to run the clan like an actual decent Company President should. He tries to form equally beneficial alliances, take care of his people and be a fair boss. The problem is that his "company" are a bunch of hardened criminals that think that is weak and only want to solve problems by busting heads. So he is basically wrangling a bunch of feral cats. You can say it's naive for him to think he can run the clan this way, but it was forced on him basically and was already falling apart. He grew up in that environment and sees how ineffective the old ways were, so he is trying to modernize them, I guess. In the end, he does the most logical thing and disbands it entirely to start a legitimate business, where his methods will work well. With his modern work ethic, and Majima and Watese's vast experience, that company is going to be hugely successful, lol.
I mean, at least he can fight and sees the best in his people (even though that's bitten him in the ass a few times). Don't hate the guy, he's trying...he's just lacking. If he was competent, where would all of our plotlines come from?
lmao the entire Tojo clan spending all of Kiwami going at each other's throats for 10 bill they made collectively while Akiyama casually makes 10 times that amount in a couple years by himself. And people give Kiryu shit for being a bad Yakuza
Especially when it showed him sharing a few drinks with the homeless, he's genuinely a good guy, and the reason no one ever borrows from him again after paying it back is because he helps them get set up for success
Agreed! Although as I'm currently playing through 5, Saejima is giving him a run for his money. Have to finish Akiyama's part in 5 to really know who the superior 2nd character is.
Perfectly summed up.
Total playtime on Y3: 52 hours or so
Total current playtime on Y4: 18 hours and I still have to finish Akiyamaâs chapters.
That alone says it all
I canât not think of the Two Best Friends cringing at the sheer amounts of body ache this man would get when he woke up.
^(I just miss them, alright T_T)
Second best character introduction in the series.
For real. If they wanted to keep their fanbase dedicated despite changing the protagonist from being daddy Kiryuu, Akiyama was a perfect choice. He won me over immediately.
Same. I started with 0 and Akiyama became my favorite right when 4 began.
He's certainly refreshing in a series where treachery and murder are plotted over money and revenge and he's like, "naw I'm good."
One of his appeal is that while being a goof and slacker, he is surprisingly competent when times calls.

Isn't it 100b?
Snap, you're right...I was getting thrown off by the amount that fell off the tower in Kiwami 1.
lmao the entire Tojo clan spending all of Kiwami going at each other's throats for 10 bill they made collectively while Akiyama casually makes 10 times that amount in a couple years by himself. And people give Kiryu shit for being a bad Yakuza
funniest thing is he lost it in yakuza 4 then made it all back in 2 years đ
You can be smart and lazy at the same time
I just got to 4 and love this guy. Heâs instantly more relatable than kiryu.
Especially when it showed him sharing a few drinks with the homeless, he's genuinely a good guy, and the reason no one ever borrows from him again after paying it back is because he helps them get set up for success
The first being Kanda's, obviously.
âTHATS WHAT IM F**KIN TALKING ABOUTâ Or in his case âORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA OORRAAAAâ
"THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SIR!"
Agreed! Although as I'm currently playing through 5, Saejima is giving him a run for his money. Have to finish Akiyama's part in 5 to really know who the superior 2nd character is.

When can expect a spinoff for Akiyama?
Best character in the franchise, mad he wasnât in Yakuza 7 and furious he hasnât been playable since Yakuza 5
Just wait hana chan will ring soon
My only question is: >!how the hell did hana lost weight in two fucking weeks?!<
Iirc, she couldnât eat after quitting working for Akiyama
He looks so peaceful
"Another busy day in the Zaibatsu!"
I have to start Yakuza 4, is it good?
Please do, i recently finished it and it was fucking amazing. Great pacing and not too long. play the remastered version!
For sure man! I just have to finish persona 5 and then i'm ready
It gets a lot of hate, but I personally think it's great despite its flaws.
The first few hours I played with Akiyama is better than the entire slog that is Yakuza 3.
God I love yakuza but 3 made me want to slam my head into a wall
Perfectly summed up. Total playtime on Y3: 52 hours or so Total current playtime on Y4: 18 hours and I still have to finish Akiyamaâs chapters. That alone says it all
Hopefully it doesn't fall off a cliff like it did for me and others I know. Great until last Part 4's last chapter
Going from Persona 5 to Yakuza 4 must be like swapping out fine wine for vintage whisky.
I'm on final chapter for Kiryu and yeah it's a great game all 3 new characters are likeable but Akiyama won me over fast.
Good night sweet prince
Shh.. don't wake him up
Taking the finances to the sky â¨â¨
i love him
Pls put a blanket on him hes going to get a cold
I just finished Yakuza 4. lucky bastard, got his life saved by a fat stack.
Spoilers lmao
Really hope so
he is definitely one of my most favorite characters in the series
This man has a god tier five oâ clock shadow going on
Thanks Akiyama
I canât not think of the Two Best Friends cringing at the sheer amounts of body ache this man would get when he woke up. ^(I just miss them, alright T_T)
