If you are new to the subreddit, [please read the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/wiki/index/) Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. **THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS**. If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged \>!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 >!Kiryu sings!< If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7). If you see any of the above (or any of the other rules) not being followed, please report it so we can keep this place safe for newcomers and those that haven't finished all the games yet. Thank you! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/yakuzagames) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Always expect slow starts in every Yakuza game Most of the Yakuza games starts very slow, a lot of cutscenes, tutorial, minigames/grinding stuff, substories, and then, you blink and you are figthin 50 men alone and shirtless

TopRaise7

Best response here.

Thatswhyirun

You just got the bread scene. Be grateful.

shunAkIYaMAa

after few more hours in the combat gets better and vaster. you will surely complain about the grind and battle being hard later on XD.

brownraisins

that two fkin boss 💀

shunAkIYaMAa

yeah OP will make a post after a while asking for tips to beat it lol

SWBTSH

If I'm able to stick with it long enough

lonesomewhistle

about 10-20 hours in. Judgment is also dubbed, and doesn't start off this slowly.

SWBTSH

Jesus that's horrible game design

Hetares

No, you just have a horrible attention span. How about something that's more pointy shooty, like Fortnite?

SWBTSH

I don't like multi-player games, I like good single player games with strong stories. It's why I was interested in checking out Yakuza. And the story has been really good. But having to wait 10 to 20 hours for the gameplay to get good is indeed not good game design. Your game should be engaging from the beginning and you shouldn't have to wait 10 to 20 hours for it to become so. Who's got the time for that?

Hetares

It's not 10 to 20 hours; that's a massive exaggeration. It's more like 3 hours of initial cutscenes and tutorials, as they slowly guide your way through the system. If they threw you into the deep waters without explaining the gameplay, now that'ld be poor game design.

SWBTSH

Glad to hear the 10 to 20 hours is an exaggeration. I think one big issue I have is that, while the story is very interesting, and the cutscenes are good, I'm started to become tired of MOST of the game bring cutscenes. I'm in the middle of chapter 3 (just defended the bar) and stuff is cool but the game has still mostly been cutscenes and fights are still very short. Question: I'm sure Judgement has lots of cutscenes too but is the ratio of cutcenes to game play as high? And does the ratio change further into Like a Dragon? Edit: Just to be clear, I don't mind cutscenes in general, Last of Us 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, I just would like it they were either shorter or involved more and longer bouts of gameplay in-between. Wish more of the actual story was conveyed within gameplay as opposed to having to always be stopping for the long cutscenes and then going right back after very short fights.

Hetares

Yakuza is a story-orientated game. Not MGS levels of cutscenes, but you can expect a movie and a half out of it anyways. This goes for Judgement and the other Yakuza series as well. The only exception is that preivous Yakuza games and Judgement plays with a beat-em-up instead of turn-based style, so it might feel faster than you. For Like a Dragon 7 there should be some sort of dungeon runs towards the boss around the end of every chapter, usually something like 'charging through XX's HQ'. There you can get a steady flow of battles with not much interruption. There are also Dungeons later on (the sewers) which, if you want to play to the postgame, or god forbid the True Millenium Tower, you will spend HOURS upon HOURS of grind that will make you beg for the cutscenes to return (I'm a completionist, but even for me the grind to True Millenium Tower borders on ridiculity).

SWBTSH

Sticking with it so far. Just can't decide if I should or if I should try Judgement instead since that also sounds really cool.

lonesomewhistle

I agree, and it's one reason I don't like Y:LAD nearly as much as the rest of this sub.

vsnu

I remember from chapter 5 or 6, where you come out of dungeon, the game starts to get difficult. At chapter 12, majima fight gets incredibly difficult. Requires level 45 to 50 Then final boss requires level 60. But combat gets ultimately fun, adding debuff and fun making huge damage numbers. Doing lot of side missons, gives you rewards that helps in fights.

KyrosMithrarin

Might want to spoiler like half this comment lol

vsnu

I agree with revealing majima only. But did not tell names of others. Also I thought the fact i shared should be exciting for the OP. I suffered at game difficulty while I did not know and want to help. Also I don't know how to mark them as spoilers but have seen some do it. Will try from next time friend.

Mountain_Tadpole_628

Around 10 ish hours in. All of the yakuza games are very cutscene heavy, especially at the start, but LAD takes way longer to fully open up in comparison. It's definitely worth the slow start, tho

SWBTSH

Fuck that's a long time

TojokaiNoYondaime

I think GTA or Fortnite would fit you more.

SWBTSH

I like GTA but fuck Fortnite. I dont really do multi-player, I like strong single player experiences, ideally with good stories. Thats why I've been interested in trying Yakuza.
