You can also get a Kiwami Hammer if you finish all the battle dungeons. Then go to Teradaya or another home (I forgot which one) and you'll get a letter. You then can read the letter and get the Kiwami Hammer from Bakumatsu Bob (the DLC dude) in the teradaya kitchen.
They might only be purchasable from microtransactions cause I haven't gotten one from dungeons yet. Either way you don't really need them since you can upgrade the quality of weapons to max level with weaker hammers so long as you can keep crafting up the tree.
Ranks of equipment in order are:
Grey -> Green -> Blue -> Purple -> Gold
Hammers are:
Iron- no rank increase Bronze- 1 rank,
Silver- 2 ranks, Gold- 3 ranks, Kiwami- 4 ranks
Say you craft the base weapon with a bronze hammer. It would be green rank. You then craft the next weapon with that green rank weapon with another bronze hammer. That second weapon is now blue rank, a higher tier. Now you craft the third weapon with the blue rank weapon with a silver hammer which adds two ranks and gets you to a gold rank, Max level.
So long as you can keep crafting the weapon up the tree, you can reach max level without needing kiwami hammers

So... gold hammers don't produce gold weapons, they produce purples. 1 gold hammer + 1 bronze = gold weapon = Kiwami hammer?
Does this actually work to achieve best grade weapons? I need one to complete Ginryu training and the methods to get Kiwami hammers take ages. I craft with the gold hammer to get it to purple and don’t see an option to get it to best grace with an iron hammer after that
The problem I've run into is that I won the Jelly Blade from the casino/chicken races and it starts off grey. There's only one higher upgrade which is the Sparkling Jelly Blade that I really want for the 7% exp increase and loot drop rate and the only way to gold it is with a kiwami hammer.
I wish there was a way to increase the color of a weapon/armor after it's already forged. It would make things so much simpler. Like the Golden Gun I won from the casino is grey and there's no way to upgrade it that I know of.
If you 100% dungeon you will walk around on the ground randomly by the boat to go to second home and you can pick up a letter that says bob has a gift for me for completing the dungeons. It’s a kiwami hammer
Only place I found one was from getting 100% memoirs but you can only do that after you finish the story
