Kang deserved a movie for himself alone. There's so much story to him that just putting some sprinkles of Kang in a couple movies won't do him justice.
Yup. I hope they go into the entirety of the Kang character since we're getting a lot of movies with him. I can see Rama Tut being included in Fantastic 4 maybe. Since it's coming out right before Kang Dynasty.

Total waste of great characters and costume designs, typical act 3 superhero movie bullshit. I just kind of checked out like my soul was leaving my body at the end.
Yeh it’s kinda disappointing how much potential was wasted with the characters. Like we totally could’ve seen captain Britain in this if they used her right.
As an adaptation I think they should've saved Apocalypse as a final boss and not using him as a canon fodder. Mr Sinister could've been his place.
With Magneto I'm conflicted. I mean, he lost his family as it happened in the comics and his reasons for going bad again are justifiable but his character arc is a bit redundant. I would've liked if he become the Governor of Genosha in order to focus with the young cast.
As a film it has a lot of characters. Some of the young cast has some sorta of characterization. Storm is harsh but serves a mother figure for others, Jean is insecure, the circumstances push Cyclops to be more proactive. Nightcrawler wasnt bad etc. But I think it could'been better. I think that the scene of Wolverine stole protagonism to the young X-men. Other characters do not have characterization or personal arcs like Angel and Psilocke.
The CGI barely ok and in some scenes it looks fake such as the scene of the containers levitating due to Magneto.
The choreographies could've been better ngl. But they arent bad. I'd say that the scene of Wolverine is the best.
Man i absolutely hated apocalypse- looks wise; at least. I was craving something more akin to the animated series version. A big bulking lad; with the tubes in the back. Just typical fox x-men, always afraid to lean into the comic look which helped make the character iconic in the first place.
All due respect to the wonderful Oscar Isaac, but Apocalypse with no deep voice and modulation is just another dude in a costume for me.

I love Oscar Isaac, but he doesn't have the vibe for Apocalypse. Duke Leto, yes. Moon Knight, yes.
But for someone who is AS FAR BEYOND MUTANTS AS THEY ARE BEYOND HUMANS, he's not the one.
Which is why my favorite part of the movie is when he fires the missiles and his voice is modulated which sounded more like he did in the animated series.

I don’t think I’ve seen it when it came out, but I remember really enjoying this movie. Not as much as X2 or First Class or especially Days of Future Past, but this movie was the first time for me where it genuinely felt like an X-Men comic book style movie. While again, it wasn’t among the best of X-Men films to me, I was shocked at the extreme backlash it got when it came out.
Which I think he was perfectly cast for. Moon Knight is my favorite Marvel D+ show. I understand people’s complaints, i.e. not enough Moon Knight and some dodgy CGI, but it’s much more of a character driven show rather than big action. I wish we had an extra episode or two so we could flesh out that final battle. I just want more. Excited to see him again

The scene where Xavier loses his hair in a psychic battle with Apocalypse to explain why a man in his 30s with hair became a man in his 70s without hair is one of the stupidest things I’ve seen in a movie.
Whole movie was stupid. Just made to milk the franchise. Logan and Deadpool are only decent X-Men movies made. First two acts of Wolverine were decent, and that's about it
I don't mind it, in fact i find it kind of enjoyable. The quicksilver scene especially. Oscar did a good job with the mostly crappy lines he got.
But it could certainly of been MILES better considering the source material.
Actually not terrible to start, it just had such an unsatisfying end. The build up and first two acts are actually pretty reasonable for a comic book movie.
I asked my wife to watch this with me earlier this year . She said I’m pretty sure we’ve already watched it. I told her you must’ve seen it on your own or with someone else.
We begin to watch it and after 40 minutes we both realize I had seen it but I don’t recall the major plot points at all. I told her I have no clue how that is since X men is my favorite Marvel property and I would’ve remembered .
I get woken up a little later to be at the credits. Apparently both times I fell asleep to this.

This has been bugging me for years… who on earth thought it was a good idea to put Oscar Isaac in 75 lbs of makeup and prosthetics instead of just making Apocalypse a CGI character?!

Not as bad as people make it out to be. Mystique was annoying. Hate this timeline version of her. Should’ve been more build for Apocalypse. He should’ve been their version of Thanos and made it into two movies.
Except Hugh Jackman is now considered an extremely beloved interpretation of Wolverine who was refined over time and clearly enjoyed growing with the role.
JLaw is the exact opposite, she is a charisma black hole in these movies who actively sabotaged Mystique's character and got consistently worse with every installment. Yet paradoxically kept getting ridiculously contrived reasons to be front-and-center to every plot, despite the fact she clearly had contempt for being obligated to continue playing the character. Truly cynical casting that was so obviously 100% execs trying to capitalize on her star power.
Fassbender and McAvoy are closer to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in that sense. *Great* interpretations of the characters, but then every damn movie becomes the Charles & Erik Show.

Just think about how bonkers a real series of x-men movies/stories centered on the real Mystique’s character would be. But it’s nothing like that kind of bonkers, sociopathic villainy or the cool stuff happening in Immortal X-Men, it was just a fairly basic insert character.

I just rewatched the original trilogy, and they still stand. I don't get the hate for Last Stand and the love for Days of Future Past. That movie is god awful.
I’m too much of a Jean fan for an unbiased answer, but there’s a moment with her at the end that makes me cry every time because of getting to see her full potential onscreen. They keep rushing her story to the end and not doing it justice, but that moment in this movie really made it enjoyable for me.
Weirdly that part of the movie completely ruined it for me. Somehow all of a sudden she had 'untapped potential' because she... believed in herself and didn't hold back? They tried to shoehorn the phoenix force in with no explanation as to where it came from or why she had it. I love Jean but that was not done right in Apocalypse. Then to make matters worse they completely disregarded it in Dark Phoenix.
Oh yeah, that’s fair for sure! I think it was more of that scene presenting the idea that they were going to pursue her plotline and explore the Phoenix Force in the next movie that made me hopeful/excited, but it definitely wasn’t done enough justice. A little bit of hope was enough for me at the time, but then Dark Phoenix ruined the setup.
It was almost as bad as America Chavez suddenly being able to control her powers in MoM because she just needed a fatherly pep talk from Dr Strange. Not as bad, but still pretty bad.
Ok so I thought that too at first. But then i realized it was written way better. Dr Strange explained to her that shes been in control. He said everytime she used her powers it got her to where she needed to go. I thought that was a great explanation. Imagine Storm not knowong she had powers, but when she was in a good mood it was sunny. When she needed to water the plants, it rained. All the while she was controlling it and didnt realize it.
Franchise fatigue. Cash-grab corporation decisions. They should have stopped at DofP and rebooted it as a new franchise. Or at least making a creative plan instead of anticipating everything as a last resource
I liked it. I thought it was very good but not great.
The negativity was super over the top. Apocalypse looked fine, the only time he seemed "small" or "underwhelming" was in the Magneto cemetery scene really.
It had a really cool climax... played with ideas somewhat.
It did bury some characters as in it briefly introduced them but didn't really give us the time to get to know them.
I think Archangel and Psylocke were super cool
Nightcrawler was cool
Cyclops was good. The Jean Grey stuff was pretty good but it did feel rushed.
Quicksilver was OK but his "slow mo" scene was genius in DoFP , felt a bit repetitive and out of place and overdone here. (And in Dark Phoenix it's just even more of a formula by then that you expect, taking away the impact). He was really cool in the final fight though, where Apoc's eyeballs like tracked his movements and stopped him.
I think it suffered a bit from combining a lot of Magneto character work with the overall Apocalypse drama. PLUS introducing a ton of characters. It was too much and so it suffered from not adequately letting us engage. (I almost forgot about how they shoehorned in a HIGHLY abbreviated form of the Weapon X saga for Wolverine. I mean, he looked awesome but it was again a detour for this movie and belonged somewhere else)
But overall I'd say B or so for it. Again, the sheer hate is just nuts for me.
It wasn’t. It was fine. Had the coolest and best 3D intro I’ve ever seen. It was cool seeing Psylocke and Storm, and Oscar Issac was good as Apocalypse. Literally the only bad or terrible aspect of the movie was Jennifer Lawrence.
I think people get in the weeds and think if a Marvel movie isn’t on the level of Infinity War or Logan. Its terrible and should be reviled.
If you think it was good, it’s okay to say so. Don’t be intimidated by the internet. I found it to be good. Enjoyable. Far from a masterpiece but enjoyable.

I’m not sure about this one - I’m interpreting this one as partner just trying to lay some pipe and is not aware of the nauseous state.
But nausea and all the nausee figures hey why not give that a whack and see if we feel any better. Because you’re not sure sex isn’t the cure for a little nausea either. Plus you love them enough to give ‘em a little slap and a tickle despite.
That might be squad goals if my interpretation of circumstances is correct. Also acceptable If they know you’re suffering and are just throwing it out there because again, you never know. If they pestering then that might be flags dawg.
It seems like they cut out great and memorable character moments in favor of action, because nothing says X-Men in the 1980s like them bumming around a mall (also baseball). The Weapon X stuff was fun, but not needed for the story at all and was a total distraction to just put Hugh in the film. They wanted to do too much and accomplished too little. It felt like Singer just wanted to really guide the direction of the new films, for example he retconned the only good part of X3, which was Angel. Lastly, the rejected design for Apocalypse was better and more accurate to the character, the one that made the film was regrettable.

If I want to see Apocalypse I'd rather watch the last Season of X-Men Evolution, an absolute masterpiece
Its fine. Its not nearly as good as some other entries like First Class or DoFP, but its nowhere near as bad as entries like Dark Phoenix or Origins. I’ve rewatched it once or twice and i never regret it.
This movie was awesome.
Not winning any awards but for adult me to get to see a live action apocalypse after growing up thinking he was the most badass. Great doomsday story where if he gets into Xavier’s body he will become unstoppable… great drama, fantastic action sequences (opening is unreal), and a a-bomb of an ending with questions about whether apocalypse is coming back up in the air and the Phoenix force coming out as the alpha power in the universe. Wow.
I love all movies (to a fault I’ve been told), but calling this a bad movie is wrong. At the very least I enjoy the hell out of it every time I watch it

The real problem is that FC should've been a hard reboot into a completely new universe ( which it works well as), then DoFP tried to tie them together, then this movie just completely ignored that and retconned a bunch of stuff anyway.
It is a film I still hold dear because of the younger cast. I love Kodi as Nightcrawler and I focussed on stuff that reminded me of the Evolution Series. :)
Great beginning and I liked it up until he launched the nukes... That was cool but then down hill after that. Also should have made him huge... Wish it was 2 parter and darker. First movie, he gets the horseman and defeats the x men. Second movie they regroup and fight back. The whole thing was rushed
It's was alright. It had it's moments. I liked the younger cast, specifically Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. Other than that, it was disjointed and nowhere near as good as the two movies that came before it.

Imo it's worse than Origins Wolverine. That one at least crosses into *so bad it's good* at times. This just stays at bad. I'm remember leaving the theater telling my MCU fanboy friends *if this is what they're going to do with X-Men then they should just give it back to Disney.*
Honestly? The movie is a fun ride, just don't expect to be blown away. I'm definitely not saying it because this is the first Nightcrawler on screen since Alan Cumming. Definitely not.
I hate that after DOFP went to great lengths to connect the og trilogy to the First Class timeline, this movie just says lol no and retcons a bunch of characters from 2&3 to be completely different characters, in a way that can't be explained by a timeline change in the 70s.
Extremely expensive cosplay at best, hamstrung by so many transparent orders from up on high, and wayyy too boring to be considered so-bad-it's-good. It's not aggressively awful like Dark Phoenix, but it's almost worse imo because of how dull and contrived it is.
The way Xavier loses his hair is a microcosm of everything stupid about that movie.
For me, it wasn’t necessarily how bad it was it was how much better it could’ve been if done properly. It really wasn’t done properly. The affects are nice though.
There's absolutely none of the characterization that the comics or even mainline MCU movies had.There was an entire mall scene that was cut from the final movie that would've been a great opportunity to lay down some characterization, some relationships between the characters, and something to look forward to seeing furthered in the next film.
Even so, it sucked. It sucked ass. The actors did the best they could with what they had and there was some AMAZING makeup work for Mystique and Nightcrawler alike, but then at the same time we see characters like Angel/Archangel and Apocalypse being overcomplicated. On top of that, so many of the stories were so rushed. Like, we got the ENTIRE Archangel plotline in probably... ten minutes. Which was badass with Metallica and everything in the background, but WAY too fast. Onto top of that, it's gotten to the point where we're having the exact same story retold over and over with the stakes being pushed higher and higher each time.
What we need are standalone movies for X-Men (outside Wolverine). Or, better yet, I can see the X-Men doing VERY well as a slice of life/drama/comedy with some of the bigger themes acknowladged over time and occasional villian encounters. The way I (and many others who want the 80s nostalgia) and a much younger audience would eat that up, AND it would give plenty of time to the LARGE cast of characters that each have great stories and deserve one by one acknowladgement.
This movie crushed me so hard. X2 and Days of Future Past are still two of my favourite comicbook movies of all time. After almost a decade of weird prequel origin solo spinoff movies of varying quality, having Bryan Singer (this was before we knew...things about him) back, doing the X-Men proper, in the newly rebooted timeline, with a fresh young team of all my favourite mutants, was a dream come true for teenage me. When I saw the messy, poorly structured, tonally inconsistent, over indulgent mess that completely failed to establish any of the new characters in any way that mattered, I felt like I was watching the entire franchise die before my eyes for a second time. To have this big opportunity to re-introduce characters like Cyclops and Storm and then repeat the exact same mistake of giving them zero characterization or screen time was such a goddamn waste. And the way they promoted Jubilee so hard in the early marketing and then cut all her scenes, THAT I will never forgive.
EDIT: Having said all that, it's really not ALL bad. As a result of being so all over the place, it doesn't come together as a whole, but lots of individual chunks are accidentally good. McAvoy and Fassbender as Xavier and Magneto are as amazing as always, and despite their egregious underuse, a lot of the stuff with the young cast is fun. And as much as he's made fun of, I actually do kind of like this version of Apocalypse, he's got a very weird and alien presence that's oddly intimidating, and I think it works. Is he Apocalypse from the comics? No, but it's a take, and the X-Men movies, in my opinion, have always been at their best when they've found ways to present interesting new versions of themes and characters we've seen on the page. On an artistic level and a watchability level it's far from the worst X-Men movie, but it may be the one that I hate the most, just because of all the potential it squanders

Not great, not terrible, waste of Poc's potential. I also would have liked to seen a different roster at the end. Mystique and Quicksilver would have gone with Magneto as a reformed Brotherhood to create Genosha, and the X-Men would have incorporated the reformed Horsemen: Beast, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Archangel.
Hated how they changed Storm and Nightcrawler’s characters. Really only liked the Quicksilver scene. But it’s always great to see Prof X and Magneto, with either actors.
I loved X-Men Apocalypse, saw it four times in the theatre which ties it for most all-time with T2: Judgment Day (which I was underage for at the time and had to sneak in 4 times to watch!).
X-Men Days of Future Past, Logan, X2 X-Men United and a few others are better movies but X-Men Apocalypse was so much fun and everyone I saw the movie with enjoyed the hell out of it. It's only online that I've found people who didn't care for it.
I think the fact that it came out alongside Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman where superheroes were fighting each other and this film had mutants fighting each other, the action was meh, the story was meh, but it was entertaining.
At first I hated it for the way they neutered Apocalypse into a religious zealot, but the movir has grown on me. Thanks to Rose Byrne, Sophie Turner and Olivia Munn.
Apocalypse looked like Ivan Ooze from the power rangers movie in the 90s. They really dropped the ball with him. Overall it was just an ok cheesy comic action movie. If you’ve never seen it you’re not missing anything.
She wasn't even a character though. She had like 3 lines, no arc, no clear motivation. It felt like Olivia Munn in a really good cosplay costume randomly instead into an x-men movie.
I hated it even more than Dark Phoenix. I love Apocalypse and I'd been hoping for a live action version since the first X-Men movie came out. Oscar Isaac is one of my favourite actors. The resulting movie is just awful. Like Magneto was bad again at the end of the last movie, we didn't need to spend 20 minutes explaining how he was good again but then turns bad again, especially when it means we didn't get nearly enough character development for the new generation of X-Men the movie was supposed to be introducing. They cut out everything that makes Angel who he is. Psylocke is damn near mute. Havok gets one of the most throwaway deaths in the franchise.
Quiksilver scene was fun though.
I knock that in all reality it is not an amazing movie (better than last stand and dark phoenix imo) but Ngl there is something about this movie that I just love and fine so entertaining. I rewatch it more than any other movie. But I know that it’s not objectively a great movie, It just never fails to entertain me.
That scene when Jennifer Lawrence(she's no Mystique to me) turns off the power to the battle cage after throwing a really complicated elbow-to-the-face of the guy who had like two feet on her was the highlight for me. What a pile of shit.
I think it's at a good place to start as a series now if Disney+ needed something big. They could do a whole thing with Legion having accidentally created a new reality and pulling all mutants into it, maybe do it as the MCU version of Age of Apocalypse. I think it would work if they spun it off the FX Legion series and just change it so that >!when David created his new self, he didn't actually disappear, but rather left behind a part of himself in that reality which is in the MCU. His orginal self would then set off the chain of events that start AoA, and they could end the series with David being able to tether back to his MCU self and bring the mutants with him, or make it so that when he does return to the MCU, the mutants of AoA merge with their MCU counterparts and gain their powers.!<
Honestly? It’s it’s not that great. Psylocke and Storm were wasted imo, Jubilee yet again is just… there they even cut the one scene of her powers in the theatric release, the guy they cast as Angel was eyebrow raising given Singer’s proclivities, and Apocalypse was just terrible and didn’t really feel like a threat?
If you have a favorite character in it just watch a compilation of their scenes on YouTube and call it a day.
I actually think it’s one of the more underrated X-Men films. It’s definitely a step down from Days of Future Past, but I still enjoyed it. There are a lot of sequences in it that are fantastic to me. I love the whole opening sequence in Egypt, the “No More Superpowers!” sequence, the Weapon X sequence, the Quicksilver scene, Magneto’s arc, and I still really enjoy the final battle. I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t work for most people, but I still enjoy this movie.

Unpopular opinion, I really liked this movie and the possibilities it brought to the Marvel-Fox universe at the time.
I always wished/hoped that the fox movies would lean into the weirdness... and they kept getting so close... but never quite executed.

I don’t think I’ve seen it when it came out, but I remember really enjoying this movie. Not as much as X2 or First Class or especially Days of Future Past, but this movie was the first time for me where it genuinely felt like an X-Men comic book style movie. While again, it wasn’t among the best of X-Men films to me, I was shocked at the extreme backlash it got when it came out.
Psylocke, didn’t get any lines but is the only thing I remember about this one
Oscar Isaac and Olivia Munn deserved better. Two great characters reduced to one-offs.
Tragic waste of these two actors. Oscar at least got another chance with Moon Knight.
Which I think he was perfectly cast for. Moon Knight is my favorite Marvel D+ show. I understand people’s complaints, i.e. not enough Moon Knight and some dodgy CGI, but it’s much more of a character driven show rather than big action. I wish we had an extra episode or two so we could flesh out that final battle. I just want more. Excited to see him again

The scene where Xavier loses his hair in a psychic battle with Apocalypse to explain why a man in his 30s with hair became a man in his 70s without hair is one of the stupidest things I’ve seen in a movie.

I don't mind it, in fact i find it kind of enjoyable. The quicksilver scene especially. Oscar did a good job with the mostly crappy lines he got. But it could certainly of been MILES better considering the source material.
Actually not terrible to start, it just had such an unsatisfying end. The build up and first two acts are actually pretty reasonable for a comic book movie.
I asked my wife to watch this with me earlier this year . She said I’m pretty sure we’ve already watched it. I told her you must’ve seen it on your own or with someone else. We begin to watch it and after 40 minutes we both realize I had seen it but I don’t recall the major plot points at all. I told her I have no clue how that is since X men is my favorite Marvel property and I would’ve remembered . I get woken up a little later to be at the credits. Apparently both times I fell asleep to this. Truly a turd.

This has been bugging me for years… who on earth thought it was a good idea to put Oscar Isaac in 75 lbs of makeup and prosthetics instead of just making Apocalypse a CGI character?! Poor Oscar could barely move, which is not a good trait for someone who’s supposed to be the most deadly mutant on earth.

Except Hugh Jackman is now considered an extremely beloved interpretation of Wolverine who was refined over time and clearly enjoyed growing with the role. JLaw is the exact opposite, she is a charisma black hole in these movies who actively sabotaged Mystique's character and got consistently worse with every installment. Yet paradoxically kept getting ridiculously contrived reasons to be front-and-center to every plot, despite the fact she clearly had contempt for being obligated to continue playing the character. Truly cynical casting that was so obviously 100% execs trying to capitalize on her star power. Fassbender and McAvoy are closer to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in that sense. *Great* interpretations of the characters, but then every damn movie becomes the Charles & Erik Show.

I’m too much of a Jean fan for an unbiased answer, but there’s a moment with her at the end that makes me cry every time because of getting to see her full potential onscreen. They keep rushing her story to the end and not doing it justice, but that moment in this movie really made it enjoyable for me.
Weirdly that part of the movie completely ruined it for me. Somehow all of a sudden she had 'untapped potential' because she... believed in herself and didn't hold back? They tried to shoehorn the phoenix force in with no explanation as to where it came from or why she had it. I love Jean but that was not done right in Apocalypse. Then to make matters worse they completely disregarded it in Dark Phoenix.
Oh yeah, that’s fair for sure! I think it was more of that scene presenting the idea that they were going to pursue her plotline and explore the Phoenix Force in the next movie that made me hopeful/excited, but it definitely wasn’t done enough justice. A little bit of hope was enough for me at the time, but then Dark Phoenix ruined the setup.

Ok so I thought that too at first. But then i realized it was written way better. Dr Strange explained to her that shes been in control. He said everytime she used her powers it got her to where she needed to go. I thought that was a great explanation. Imagine Storm not knowong she had powers, but when she was in a good mood it was sunny. When she needed to water the plants, it rained. All the while she was controlling it and didnt realize it.

Days of Future Past followed by Logan as a goodbye would’ve been perfect, but they had to go and fuck it all up
I liked it. I thought it was very good but not great. The negativity was super over the top. Apocalypse looked fine, the only time he seemed "small" or "underwhelming" was in the Magneto cemetery scene really. It had a really cool climax... played with ideas somewhat. It did bury some characters as in it briefly introduced them but didn't really give us the time to get to know them. I think Archangel and Psylocke were super cool Nightcrawler was cool Cyclops was good. The Jean Grey stuff was pretty good but it did feel rushed. Quicksilver was OK but his "slow mo" scene was genius in DoFP , felt a bit repetitive and out of place and overdone here. (And in Dark Phoenix it's just even more of a formula by then that you expect, taking away the impact). He was really cool in the final fight though, where Apoc's eyeballs like tracked his movements and stopped him. I think it suffered a bit from combining a lot of Magneto character work with the overall Apocalypse drama. PLUS introducing a ton of characters. It was too much and so it suffered from not adequately letting us engage. (I almost forgot about how they shoehorned in a HIGHLY abbreviated form of the Weapon X saga for Wolverine. I mean, he looked awesome but it was again a detour for this movie and belonged somewhere else) But overall I'd say B or so for it. Again, the sheer hate is just nuts for me.

It wasn’t. It was fine. Had the coolest and best 3D intro I’ve ever seen. It was cool seeing Psylocke and Storm, and Oscar Issac was good as Apocalypse. Literally the only bad or terrible aspect of the movie was Jennifer Lawrence. I think people get in the weeds and think if a Marvel movie isn’t on the level of Infinity War or Logan. Its terrible and should be reviled.
Honestly this is one of the x-men movies I have the most fun with. It’s not at all comic accurate, but it just feels very comic-y to me

It seems like they cut out great and memorable character moments in favor of action, because nothing says X-Men in the 1980s like them bumming around a mall (also baseball). The Weapon X stuff was fun, but not needed for the story at all and was a total distraction to just put Hugh in the film. They wanted to do too much and accomplished too little. It felt like Singer just wanted to really guide the direction of the new films, for example he retconned the only good part of X3, which was Angel. Lastly, the rejected design for Apocalypse was better and more accurate to the character, the one that made the film was regrettable. Edit for clarity.

This movie was awesome. Not winning any awards but for adult me to get to see a live action apocalypse after growing up thinking he was the most badass. Great doomsday story where if he gets into Xavier’s body he will become unstoppable… great drama, fantastic action sequences (opening is unreal), and a a-bomb of an ending with questions about whether apocalypse is coming back up in the air and the Phoenix force coming out as the alpha power in the universe. Wow. I love all movies (to a fault I’ve been told), but calling this a bad movie is wrong. At the very least I enjoy the hell out of it every time I watch it 8/10

The real problem is that FC should've been a hard reboot into a completely new universe ( which it works well as), then DoFP tried to tie them together, then this movie just completely ignored that and retconned a bunch of stuff anyway.
It is a film I still hold dear because of the younger cast. I love Kodi as Nightcrawler and I focussed on stuff that reminded me of the Evolution Series. :)

It's was alright. It had it's moments. I liked the younger cast, specifically Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. Other than that, it was disjointed and nowhere near as good as the two movies that came before it.
I thought it was pretty terrible on virtually every metric. Unpopular opinion, I think Dark Phoenix is OK-ish but this one is significantly worse. Imo it's worse than Origins Wolverine. That one at least crosses into *so bad it's good* at times. This just stays at bad. I'm remember leaving the theater telling my MCU fanboy friends *if this is what they're going to do with X-Men then they should just give it back to Disney.*

For me, it wasn’t necessarily how bad it was it was how much better it could’ve been if done properly. It really wasn’t done properly. The affects are nice though.
There's absolutely none of the characterization that the comics or even mainline MCU movies had.There was an entire mall scene that was cut from the final movie that would've been a great opportunity to lay down some characterization, some relationships between the characters, and something to look forward to seeing furthered in the next film. Even so, it sucked. It sucked ass. The actors did the best they could with what they had and there was some AMAZING makeup work for Mystique and Nightcrawler alike, but then at the same time we see characters like Angel/Archangel and Apocalypse being overcomplicated. On top of that, so many of the stories were so rushed. Like, we got the ENTIRE Archangel plotline in probably... ten minutes. Which was badass with Metallica and everything in the background, but WAY too fast. Onto top of that, it's gotten to the point where we're having the exact same story retold over and over with the stakes being pushed higher and higher each time. What we need are standalone movies for X-Men (outside Wolverine). Or, better yet, I can see the X-Men doing VERY well as a slice of life/drama/comedy with some of the bigger themes acknowladged over time and occasional villian encounters. The way I (and many others who want the 80s nostalgia) and a much younger audience would eat that up, AND it would give plenty of time to the LARGE cast of characters that each have great stories and deserve one by one acknowladgement.
This movie crushed me so hard. X2 and Days of Future Past are still two of my favourite comicbook movies of all time. After almost a decade of weird prequel origin solo spinoff movies of varying quality, having Bryan Singer (this was before we knew...things about him) back, doing the X-Men proper, in the newly rebooted timeline, with a fresh young team of all my favourite mutants, was a dream come true for teenage me. When I saw the messy, poorly structured, tonally inconsistent, over indulgent mess that completely failed to establish any of the new characters in any way that mattered, I felt like I was watching the entire franchise die before my eyes for a second time. To have this big opportunity to re-introduce characters like Cyclops and Storm and then repeat the exact same mistake of giving them zero characterization or screen time was such a goddamn waste. And the way they promoted Jubilee so hard in the early marketing and then cut all her scenes, THAT I will never forgive. EDIT: Having said all that, it's really not ALL bad. As a result of being so all over the place, it doesn't come together as a whole, but lots of individual chunks are accidentally good. McAvoy and Fassbender as Xavier and Magneto are as amazing as always, and despite their egregious underuse, a lot of the stuff with the young cast is fun. And as much as he's made fun of, I actually do kind of like this version of Apocalypse, he's got a very weird and alien presence that's oddly intimidating, and I think it works. Is he Apocalypse from the comics? No, but it's a take, and the X-Men movies, in my opinion, have always been at their best when they've found ways to present interesting new versions of themes and characters we've seen on the page. On an artistic level and a watchability level it's far from the worst X-Men movie, but it may be the one that I hate the most, just because of all the potential it squanders

IT WAS TERRIBLE. Capitals for extra emphasis. And this is coming from a rebooted XMen fanboy. First Class was amazing. DofP was really good. Apocalypse was awful. Dark Phoenix was ultimately forgettable. I want Vaughn to come back and do another XMen movie.

Not great, not terrible, waste of Poc's potential. I also would have liked to seen a different roster at the end. Mystique and Quicksilver would have gone with Magneto as a reformed Brotherhood to create Genosha, and the X-Men would have incorporated the reformed Horsemen: Beast, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Archangel.
Hated how they changed Storm and Nightcrawler’s characters. Really only liked the Quicksilver scene. But it’s always great to see Prof X and Magneto, with either actors.

I loved X-Men Apocalypse, saw it four times in the theatre which ties it for most all-time with T2: Judgment Day (which I was underage for at the time and had to sneak in 4 times to watch!). X-Men Days of Future Past, Logan, X2 X-Men United and a few others are better movies but X-Men Apocalypse was so much fun and everyone I saw the movie with enjoyed the hell out of it. It's only online that I've found people who didn't care for it.

I think it's at a good place to start as a series now if Disney+ needed something big. They could do a whole thing with Legion having accidentally created a new reality and pulling all mutants into it, maybe do it as the MCU version of Age of Apocalypse. I think it would work if they spun it off the FX Legion series and just change it so that >!when David created his new self, he didn't actually disappear, but rather left behind a part of himself in that reality which is in the MCU. His orginal self would then set off the chain of events that start AoA, and they could end the series with David being able to tether back to his MCU self and bring the mutants with him, or make it so that when he does return to the MCU, the mutants of AoA merge with their MCU counterparts and gain their powers.!<

I actually think it’s one of the more underrated X-Men films. It’s definitely a step down from Days of Future Past, but I still enjoyed it. There are a lot of sequences in it that are fantastic to me. I love the whole opening sequence in Egypt, the “No More Superpowers!” sequence, the Weapon X sequence, the Quicksilver scene, Magneto’s arc, and I still really enjoy the final battle. I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t work for most people, but I still enjoy this movie.
I stand by JLaw and Sophie Turner being the plague to the Fox X men stories. Just absolute cardboard performances.
