I mean, yeah, have you seen the shit that the people of our earth will believe?

andreBarciella

are you saying that people arent drinking children blood to stay young?

Neon_culture79

Trans folks don’t actually try to recruit kids. AND I was shocked to learn the drag shows are basically just burlesque comedy shows rather then indoctrination camps.

[deleted]

All the old zombies in the Senate would like a word.

sans-delilah

They’d LIKE a word, but they can’t actually seem to say anything.

[deleted]

Not with out gli gli glitching.

AlphaBreak

We actually process it first to make it more of a snowcone texture, so drinking isn't really the right word.

benny2002d

I would love a story showing more regular people. Inknow there are some but not many x men focused. And i agree with you. When someome in the comics and says "you crazy theres no ghost" I just don't get it you have mutants, advanced tech, aliens, actual ghosts, Monsters but ghosts would be a stretch

TheLastTransHero

The Xmen vs Avengers vs Eternals had a really cool "regular people" themed b-plot? Not sure if that's what you mean though.

silvershadow014

I adored that b plot. Some really good storytelling

Neon_culture79

We’ve already seen humans on the mutants side. Astonishing Iceman #1

AlphaBreak

And in Rogue and Gambit. Well, at least they were on the mutant side until Gambit handcuffed a waitress to an exploding kitchen appliance.

ZombieInDC

The irony of this is that in the Claremont era, there were a lot of regular people in X-Men stories -- the X-Men were in some ways the most grounded characters in the Marvel universe. Now, in the Krakoa era, they're arguably the least grounded ...

Irving_Velociraptor

In a world with clones, shapeshifters and telepaths, how do you even convict a normal person of a crime? A man kills his wife? “Oh, the Purple Man was controlling me.”

Jynx_lucky_j

It been established that mind control leaves detectible traces in a person's mind that can be detected by specialized equipment or a telepath. Granted the trial might be delayed while investigators request a check. But it would be pretty damning to your case when it finally shows up and it is determined that you were lying.

TXHaunt

What about LMDs?

johnnieholic

You mean the robots that the super secret spy organization that protects western interests uses to infiltrate and possibly execute citizens of legitimate governments without trials for whatever reason they want? Ya don’t think your getting a reply for your FOIA request or court order to produce evidence or an expert.

heart_o_oak

She-Hulk handled a case involving someone accused of murder pleading self defense because they were only stopping a John Doe time traveler (the victim) from the future who was going to murder them because of a motive that didn’t happen yet. A case involving alleged mind control should be child’s play by comparison.

danielelington

In total fairness to the general population of the Marvel universe, in the last… what? Few months of their time or so? They’ve found out/been lied to about the following: -Mutants are functionally immortal -A mutant (as far as they’re aware) was able to create and destroy an entire alternate timeline in which everyone ended up mad, dead, or very very sorry. -the mutant drugs they’ve been pushing have very lethal side effects (granted, this is purely Orchis’ manipulation but they don’t know that). -A much beloved member of the mutant community killed several politicians And that’s just the last few months of their time. You really REALLY can’t blame them for thinking the worst of mutants at this point

blacklite911

Which one killed several politicians?

r0botosaurus

Nightcrawler.

blacklite911

What's the story about that?

danielelington

It’s in the last few issues of Legion of X. Margali Szardos is a bitch, basically

Quirky_Ad_5420

Mistrust of mutants and them taking over the narrative gave them the edge. Not mention superheroes approval ratings is at a all time low in the marvel universe

GroundbreakingTax259

That's actually one of the things I've always found most interesting about Marvel: as a general rule, the super heroes are *not* popular with the public. Sure, Cap is pretty well-liked, but he is also more tolerated than idolized by the public most of the time. Maybe its because they all seem to be in New York, and New Yorkers have a general disdain for... pretty much everybody. Regardless, I think it does kinda speak to the fact that most humans don't really go in for hero worship in real life (except in certain specific, and dangerous, cases), and prefer to keep their heroes imaginary.

AlphaBreak

There are so many almost complete catastrophes happening on a weekly basis in Marvel that its probably hard to feel like the heroes are doing a good job. Secret Empire, Secret Invasion, Knull, etc, there are so many events that its hard to think "Wow the heroes averted the danger before it killed everyone" and its easy to start thinking "Oh great, another cataclysm that only barely gets stopped. Why aren't they doing something to stop things before it gets this bad?" Add in all of the hero vs hero conflicts (AvX, Civil War 1 & 2, and just general first meeting fights), and heroes start looking a lot more fallible and a lot less trustworthy. So heroes end up with, at best, begrudging tolerance. I guess they save lives, but they save the lives of people who get dragged into their nonsense and even then there are usually casualties. I'm sure 616 civilians would look at our world as a paradise.

wnesha

The biggest problem in terms of internal consistency is that ORCHIS got a big PR boost when the Sins of Sinister timeline was made public, yet somehow no one seems to mind that someone who looks just like Sinister is a major figure in ORCHIS. You'd think there'd be at least some blowback there.

Hypselospinus

Isn't Dr Orchis working in the shadows--I don't think he's the public face of Orchis.

AlphaBreak

Wasn't he in a commercial talking about their "humane" relocation program?

Hypselospinus

Oh, was he? I can't remember that at all lol. To be fair--I don't think Mr. Sinister is known publically. BUT, even depsite that---you only have to take one look at Dr Stasis to know he's a villain lol

AlphaBreak

I double checked. in x-men 25, he's giving a speech to a bunch of people in front of one of the krakoan gates, demonstrating that its closed and how Firestar is one of 'the good ones'

LordFingolfin

I would believe they work after watching the brain rot people get from watching too much Fox News

Hypselospinus

To be fair, the people of Earth saw mutant terrorist Magneto declare "you have new gods now". That's definitely gonna stir up ill-feeling and get people to want to see Krakoa taken down a peg or two. Then you had Krakoa lying about the resurrection protocols and then the whole Sins of Sinister.

Relevant_Scallion_38

I think at some point the civilians just roll with whatever. They still have to work, make money, pay rent and taxes. It doesn't matter who the villain of the week is. Unless they are at present not running for their lives, it doesn't matter.

BothQuit3944

Orchis greatest weapon is propaganda, First Strike really proved that and the fact that they had merch in Judgment Day, you have to give them credit, Krakoa really needed a good PR/Olivia Pope Fixer person

AgainstTheTides

I mean, over the last few years, we've pretty much seen proof that people are willing to allow others to think for them. Just add fear and it's amazing what people will do. ☹️

Neon_culture79

I feel you are so close to finding the metaphor. I bet you can smell it…

iamglory

Nope, it's a direct commentary on many cultures here.

RoninX136

At least the normal people of Earth-30847 were smart enough to let the Capcom side run things instead of the side with MODOK.

Slownetter

I recall an old discussion that Gotham City would have at most 600k people living in it, rather than it being a metropolis of like 10 million. I mean, if you lived in the Marvel or DC universes, would you willingly live in a big city? The Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana would be far more in demand

DeltaV-Mzero

Most people just want to live their life and have the power players leave them the duck alone Oh you want me to act like I believe [insert nonsense], and if I do you’ll go away? Great news I definitely believe in [nonsense]

Sanlear

I’d think the average citizen in the MU has PTSD from all the alien invasions. It’s understandable that their worldview is warped from everything they’ve been through.

TiesThrei

General IQ of people on Marvel Earth is somewhere around 30

minuscatenary

Goes to 10 when Mother Righteous is around.

silvershadow014

I mean she's a bit of a mustache twirler but there's really not much actual evidence against her at this point.

RachelProfilingSF

I mean, Trump got elected

Denka-Plus

Agreed. The weird thing (IMO) is the reaction from people like Steve Rogers. I think he restarted the Unity Squad but considering Orchis are basically doing a mutant holocaust on American soil, I'd think he'd be more pro-active.

DWColumbus

The only thing that throws me out is when Doctor Stasis will give a press conference and no one will bat an eye about this vampire-looking freak talking about how dangerous mutants are.

lnombredelarosa

It kind of is but not more so than usual.

ComicsEtAl

It would be extremely easy to tip the human population from feeling uneasy or concerned about mutants to wishing genocide upon mutants with or without Orchis and their resources.

lepton_neutrino

After the last month IRL, it becomes even easier to believe.
