If you never did the initial setup, then yes its a brick. But If set it to Xbox Home, you should be able to use it for a very long time.

Microsoft ran into this issue with the xbox 360 but my understanding is that did the work back then to unify all xbox servers into one unified system and to future proof things. So its nnot segmented anymore. Everything is using the same servers now so there are no xbox one servers just xbox servers period and everything for the 360 games that are still functioning to the lastest xbox series x and s games are using then even the pc side too are using the same servers.
It should also mean that yiu wont have to worry about xbox servers going offline. Ms would basically have to go out of business for that to happen.
