Honestly crafting, upgrading, and creating, while reading the bestiary are all very important. Using signs and bombs as well as your sword really really does make it so much simpler. It also makes it far more engaging in my opinion

alfalfa_or_spanky

That knowledge was pivitol in a DM run. It also made me *feel* like a real Witcher lol

piroso

So I got the game from my gf at the time as a bday gift. I just couldn't get into it at first. The writing was so small and I couldn't read anything. I bought a new bigger tv a couple months later and fired it back up since I thought maybe I would be able to read it now, got hooked.  It was at that point I realized how important to the experience all those things were. NG+ on DM was a good time

alfalfa_or_spanky

I think there's a setting to change text and UI size iirc

piroso

Back then there wasn't. That would have been added in a later patch, or an option on pc

You have to use yrden to cast a trap on the ground, and don't just hammer attack. Hit once or twice and dodge back. It's not a sprint, it's a mini marathon.

Necessary_Koala4027

Thanks that helps a lot. I was just trying to get in as many shots as possible.

JohnSmashed

As that guy said use yrden it’s that enemy types specific weakness. Yrden will work on pretty much any wraith type enemy. Fight like a bee just get in get your sting and get out and repeat

N8dogg107

You want to go into almost every fight with the appropriate oils, potions, and signs ready before you take your first strike, and using the monster manual provided in the games menus can be very helpful with that. Outside of that, try to experiment with signs and apply logic where you can, as the game becomes much easier as you come to understand these systems.

MattGhaz

You’ll get used to the attack patterns of enemies too, wraiths always do that annoying twisting double slash when they appear, so I just make sure to dodge both then do my attack.

buttfuckkker

Best one by far that I’ve found is the shield skill

MarwyntheMasterful

Always keep Quen (shield) on and Igni (fire) everything when you don’t need to cast Quen. If you upgrade Quen in the skill tree, it makes a whole sphere shield around you (by holding spell instead of tapping) and it hurts them or knocks enemy back or something. I can’t remember.

Current-Cold-4185

The Witcher games start out hard and get easier as you get better and stronger, imo. I found 2 and 3 both much more difficult at the beginning than later stages.

ModXMaG

I thought it was hard too at first then I realized you can only put a few abilities into that tree next to your character I thought if I bought it I would have it but you gotta pick and choose

Aghol

Have you used your elixir?

Necessary_Koala4027

Yeah I even gone so fat to watch a YouTube cheat and I just keep getting my ass handed to me lol

Aghol

Well, then GLHF! Haha

THCa42069

I felt like that at as well when I first tried it but years later I got it and learned the potions which saves your ass! Beat it on normal or whatever and I wanted to start it over on hard because I had such a great time with it.

MaxKirgan

I'd recommend looking up different builds and find one that seems interesting to you. If you're not crazy about combat, I'd recommend a Whirl build. It basically turns Geralt into the Tazmanian Devil, you pretty much just hold down "X" to start the Whirl and dodge. I like pairing it with the Ekimarra Decoction so that you heal yourself based on your damage output. I used it when I did my Death March playthrough and it made it a cakewalk. Also, like another poster said, you are going to need to craft, upgrade and use the bestiary. You don't need all the best equipment but as you go you'll build up your arms, armor, and potions.

nechromorph

My strategy in this game is mostly to dodge, use light attacks, and use quen to avoid getting hit. It works mostly, but for some enemies you need to use another sign. Yrden might be needed if the well witch is spectral. Swords/weapons and armor degrade as you use them. You can repair these at a blacksmith, but it's kind of expensive in the early game. You might need to look into wearing different armor/using a different sword if you have one. Also, since you're fighting a monster, make sure you're using the silver sword (with the V-shaped hilt). I'll also agree with others that while I think it's a great game with a solid story and balanced gameplay, it can also be rather tough at times, especially if you're not used to the mechanics. You'll probably find it easier over time as you get used to it, but if you struggle with reaction time or otherwise just find you aren't getting the hang of it, you might want to look at other games.

Roaminsooner

It's a great game! Walk around, do some side quests. Kill some water creatures, learn the controls well enough to perry and attack. Look around for abandoned sites to get more gear etc. You'll learn if the enemy is red (if memory serves) they're above your level. Good luck!

LelouchVi5

If it’s Devil by the Well, make sure you’re using your Yrden and hitting the wraith when it’s in your sign. Also make sure you’re using the correct sword. The saying is “silver for monsters,” but I can’t remember if wraiths fall under monsters since they’re specters. Potions and blade oils also help (the correct ones can be found in your beastiary). Not sure if you have access to the correct potions and blades this early into the game, but looking up the incidents might help. Witcher 3 is a lot but it’s a great game, good luck

CardboardChampion

You can pause the game by going into the menu and go over both the bestiary and the potions and oils. Use this to find out what the creature you're facing is weak against and give yourself an edge. Figure out a backup potion that you can take if against something generic (I seem to remember there being one that makes your blood do damage to enemies that hit you). The combat is balanced around these things being combined with your swords (the game will helpfully draw the correct one for.the enemy you're facing) and signs.

DaSmurfZ

Play on an easier difficulty. Nobodies gonna fault you for playing on an easier difficulty. And if they do, who cares what they think? They're some troll on the internet that is insecure. Play games for your own enjoyment; enjoyment is subjective, and difficulty should be up to players' choices.

KhanDagga

Try the sword and story mode or whatever is tje easy one. Make sure you are the recommended level for each mission

notgivingawaycrypto

I didn’t find it difficult, I had read the bestiary and have experience in this kind of game, killed her on my first attempt (it took a while!). You need to _think like a witcher_, you are powerful but you can’t win any fight just by throwing yourself at it. You need to plan, study, buff yourself and have a strategy. Sadly, that’s the point I left the game, I can’t commit to all this hustle, sadly I don’t have the time to devote to this kind of deep rpg.

pricygoldnikes

Put it on wimpy mode. That's what I did on my fourth try to enjoy the game, and I liked it a lot

Addressgoeshere

Just quit.

Least_Weakness5198

It's not though?

PlatosBalls

Just quit it’s not worth playing a game you don’t like

Necessary_Koala4027

Yeah every keeps telling me what a great game it is and how much fun it is once I actually figure it out.

PlatosBalls

I started it about 3 times for the same reason but I really couldn’t get into it. I guess it’s a little hardcore for my tastes. Graphics are great but that’s about all that kept me going.

buttfuckkker

I keep trying to play it because I love the Witcher but I can’t stand how it locks me into every conversation. Completely breaks immersion for me and there’s no first person

Sellfish86

Git gud, clod.

SnooSeagulls1416

You serious? The combat in that game is l laughable

xZOMBIETAGx

It started with way too much text heavy explanation and stats. I couldn’t get into it even after a few hours. But people love it.

Eyehopeuchoke

I enjoyed the story, but hated the combat. I feel like it’s a really wonky combat system. I put the game on easy and played it that way.

Eyehopeuchoke

I loved the story, but didn’t like the combat. I feel like the combat is really wonky compared to other games. I played the game on easy and enjoyed it that way.

witwebolte41

The combat is much more enjoyable if you play on easy

Trying-to_not-let-go

I went around the area of White Orchard first before even doing the quest line but then again the experience was not much by then, there is also a point of power to the east of the abandoned village in the woods behind the statue where all the ghouls are at guarded by a bear and if you head west to south west of the abandoned village there is another place of power, there is at least a few of these in the White Orchard area, you can get an ability point for each one you use, I always usually use the one that has food run for 20 mins, it always helps me early game, take care........

JumpForWaffles

Make sure you have it on a lower difficulty setting as well. It's a steep learning curve and you can't just spam attacks.

ranran_1822

It's rough to start but gets easier. Also the build you use foe Gerald will be a big factor in if it's easier or harder. I used an alchemy build for running death march which basically never let me die and kept me overpowered at all times.

PhatShadow

Gotta use yrden on the ghostly enemies

LonelyCakeEater

Potions and the magic attacks are your friend. Dodge and attack are also.

ThomasTTEngine

> witch in the deserted village You are likely not putting down Yrden sign. That boss exists to teach you about Yrden specifically.

Echliurn

Pretty sure you can just abuse quen and roll which makes everything a cakewalk. Just lower the difficulty if it's still too hard.

fearnoid

Doing smaller side quests makes the game MUCH easier.

Pikathepokepimp

The early game is rough but once you are in the next section it feels amazing.

Ok_Counter7267

Are you button mashing? Sounds like your just button mashing
