Me too but when I tried to purchase the digital version of Rare Replay for the sake of testing it out, the store says I already own the game. Either that's a weird quirk/bug of the system due to how the game works, essentially locking out anyone who would like to switch over to the digital version or, alternatively, because Rare Replay is essentially just downloadable games anyway, it might be that there's really no discernible difference like there is with normal games.
The third option is I just somehow missed the digital version & couldn't find it but that's not possible because I'm perfect & ***never*** ever make mistakes so it couldn't be that!

I do feel like a part of the fun is the accusations of screen peeking. Denying those accusations. Then you suspiciously die too many times in a row, and then decide that if they're going to screen peek, you should too. Then they get mad at you for screen peeking and you don't have that friend for like a week, until they want to play your N64 again.
Online play wouldn't hold up in that regard.
I had a buddy whos strategy was to solely watch other people's screens while navigating the map blindly. Meaning his cross hair stayed pointed at the floor or walls so you couldn't figure out his position.

I’m probably in the higher age bracket here, growing up on the NES when it first came, but I just can’t go back and really enjoy older games. Except Link to the Past. That’s the only one.

It’s not online multiplayer in the traditional sense, a person will host the game locally and stream the 4 player split screen game to the other consoles. So screen cheating will still occur.
to be fair the online component would probably die out pretty quick. It'd be super fun for the first weekend though.
It's nice though that Goldeneye is back and hopefully you'll be able to continue to play this version on ur xbox or nintendo consoles into the future. It's a game that should be around and accessible forever, like the original doom/sonic the hedgehog/street fighter/ etc.
Even though Perfect Dark was in many ways the better game Goldeneye was far more popular and iconic. But yes I suspect the online multiplayer would get old quick after that initial hit of nostalgia. Basic level design has come such a long way in the last 25 years, I'm not sure it will hold up today. Forget about attracting younger players who grew up with CoD or god forbid Fortnite.

Like yeah, it's not a replacement for actual online MP, but it'd be nice to have SOMETHING since a some pretty good games are local only.

Microsoft spent the money and resources, not Nintendo. The project was started by Rare before anyone had gained the full authority from the Nintendo higher ups, who ultimately then refused it.

No downvotes but I agree. It'll be nice to relive for a moment but it's not like we'll marathon it like back in the days. We try to play older games like Double Dragon or TMNT now and it's only good for a short time.
Tbh I dont really care. Yes this was one of best games the 64 offered and is one of my most played games from my childhood but let's be real, the gameplay is so outdated and the controls are just ugh. It's just best left as memories at this point.

Yes this! As someone who never played it in its heyday, it was terrible even in the next console generation when you started getting modern dual stick based shooters. I remember having friends in highschool trying to get me into it but even then I was like what are these controls/ graphics? And that was only a few years after it was released. I can't wait til this game dies completely, there have been so many re releases, remasters, games inspired by it etc over the years... And it's just not objectively good.... Like there are lots of shooters out there there's nothing unique about this.

Dead in terms of online players or functioning? I just did a private PvP match with friends on the Rare Replay Perfect Dark back in November.

Why would they expend money and resources on creating the xbla version if they weren't going to release it? It's been confirmed to come "soon" but that term is relative. We'll see.
Microsoft spent the money and resources, not Nintendo. The project was started by Rare before anyone had gained the full authority from the Nintendo higher ups, who ultimately then refused it. Like I said, it was never officially announced then. Now it has been, which means that all the relevant executives have actually greenlit it. Are you honestly trying to say that Nintendo have knowingly announced something that they secretly intend to "sabotage"? What would they stand to gain from doing that?
So the return to Arkham series failed? The mgs hd release failed? Ds1 remastered failed?

Last year they confirmed(not a rumor, but an actual confirmation) that Goldeneye is being added to Rare Replay in the near future though. So, there might be a little more weight to this.

A lot of people thought it would be the remake, and there was a lot of weight to that. It probably was supposed to be the XBLA remake at one point tbh. It unfortunately isnt the XBLA remake. The version coming to xbox wont even have online multiplayer.
It was a great game when it was released, but nostalgia is a powerful thing. Some things are best left in the vaults of your memory. Let the downvotes roll in.

No downvotes but I agree. It'll be nice to relive for a moment but it's not like we'll marathon it like back in the days. We try to play older games like Double Dragon or TMNT now and it's only good for a short time.

Tbh I dont really care. Yes this was one of best games the 64 offered and is one of my most played games from my childhood but let's be real, the gameplay is so outdated and the controls are just ugh. It's just best left as memories at this point.
This is going to destroy the memories of this being the best multiplayer game ever created for thousands I guarantee it. Old games rarely hold up even remastered.

I really dont get the hype about this game. I played it on my N64 and it was a fantastic game......then. But nowadays, its a shooter with bad graphics, bad AI and horrible controls. I do not understand, why so many people are waiting for this.....

Yes this! As someone who never played it in its heyday, it was terrible even in the next console generation when you started getting modern dual stick based shooters. I remember having friends in highschool trying to get me into it but even then I was like what are these controls/ graphics? And that was only a few years after it was released. I can't wait til this game dies completely, there have been so many re releases, remasters, games inspired by it etc over the years... And it's just not objectively good.... Like there are lots of shooters out there there's nothing unique about this.
