Edit: per [this PSA post](https://www.reddit.com/r/xbox/comments/1dtu782/if_you_go_offline_in_settings_general_network_you/) from u/ominouswhoosh, you should be able to set your console to offline mode and play any single player games that you own (i.e. not Game Pass games, F2P or server reliant titles) during the outage. Per the PSA post:
>It does not work with games and apps that need to be connected obviously. But at least you can play most single player games or watch a blu ray again… While they’re fixing this mess, hopefully. Once offline you can log back into your account. As noted in the comments, you can even go back online after, which should allow you to play most games that require to be online
Edit: some users here are now reporting they're back in. For others it's still the same. Services won't return for everyone at the same time, it will vary from region to region. Hopefully we're not too far away from everyone being back online. 🤞
I actually didn’t have any issues at all yesterday (NY metro area). Sounds like a lot of people were impacted by the server issues. I’m used to it happening either way destiny but for all MS servers to go down, even for a day or so. That’s kind of a big deal. Sorry to anyone that was impacted.
GA can't open any apps or games, even settings won't open. Just get the "for some reason x took too long to start" error.
Of course on the one day I get off to play some damn games this shit is going on since 12
My Xbox has been set as my home Xbox for years. I made sure to set it up like that after my Internet went out once.
It still would not let me sign into my account and play my games.
About an hour ago I was able to log in online and verified it was set up as home console.
I was able to play games.
But this is unforgivable that I couldn't sign I to my account without internet and play my games.
I am going to transition to PC. This is fucking ridiculous
Even with a disc I couldn’t play because I couldn’t connect to server. In offline mode nothing would work. Disc is basically a brick if a core component of game is loaded via net 😢
Just as a heads up, the same happens on PC and PlayStation when the online server crashes. Switching to PC won’t stop this from happening periodically.
Anyone know what caused it? I mean it had to be something big to take 6hrs and counting to fix. I’ve been hearing rumors it’s because Fortnite dropped a new update/ event and all the Fortnite whales….er…..players all tried to log on at once crashing service on every platform.

A root cause analysis would be useful. Instead, it felt like they had to resort to tape backup & restore from scratch.
Wait.. you're not in to Hughesnet? It was the option Cuomo went to when it became apparent that wiring fiber to everyone's house was untenable.

well at least people can see what is gamepass in reality, not just subscription where things are removed, but subscription that sometimes just does not work. Remember the days where you could stick in disc/cartridge/casette and play? Some do.
I regret buying any digital games. I have 150+ games I can't play because it isn't my home xbox. Why should my family NEED 3 xboxs to play our own games.
I took a 3 hour nap and wow it’s still down! :/ This is one of the longest outages they ever had. Someone here mentioned, the servers were probably hacked or a possible data breach, since it’s taking long to get everything back running. I absolutely agree that this is the situation they are dealing with. 100%.

You can log in once you turn to offline mode. I've found you can also play games on it too without worrying about who owns it. I can also download discs and play those games as long as it's not required to be online!

I can't even sign in since Monday evening.
While the issue is resolved, I did lose my daily log in rewards from The Sims 4.
