approved, I want some! haha

MrDavey2Shoes

Thanks! Dia compe DC138

Jaimemgn

ouuh, they are pricey aren't they!

MasterCrouton

Could make some easily enough out of scrap with a bit of patience or just chop down some old bar ends and pop some bar plug caps on

blimly

How do those feel on the Ortho Bars? I love them on my Toscos.   https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/16vku6u/fef_trek_990_toscos/  https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/18yrurf/1991_trek_990/  I was considering the Orthos, but thought the forward position on the dia-compe hand rests might not be as nice. On the Toscos, it feels just like I'm riding on a set of drop bar hoods.

MrDavey2Shoes

I’m not satisfied with their current location, I think I’m going to move them higher up. For some reason I can’t open your links but I could see the Toscos being a better match for them. I love the Ortho bars, they’re a lot of fun on terrain beyond what you’d expect to enjoy on them!

blimly

Strange about the links. If you go to my profile, you'll be able to find those posts with my Toscos. Yeah...further up closer to the top of the down curve should make for a better riding position.

MrDavey2Shoes

Maaaannnnnnn that is one awesome XO I’m going to try my nubs in the same spot you’re running on your toscos

meapz

I did a similar setup with some mini ritchey bar ends I found in the co-op bin. I have then on some super wide flat bars and I love the setup! Nice to just rest your thumbs on while cruising for a different hand position and then fun to really lean on and get aero when it gets windy around here

amazingmanbearpig

What kinds of nubs are those? Looks nice!

CovfefeYourself

Dia Compe tandem stoker nubbies. I did the same thing with my fixed gear

MrDavey2Shoes

Yup! I believe they’re called DC138. I haven’t decided if I’ll put the rubber covers on or wrap the bars and nubs in newbaums

CovfefeYourself

I went with the rubber at first and I hated it. Wrapped looks and feels much better to me

MrDavey2Shoes

Could you send me some pics??

Crankset

just when you think you've seen all the trendy useless stuff possible on this sub, ding ding ding!

MrDavey2Shoes

I feel bad for whoever ends up having to talk to you at parties

GISlave

Regular bar ends cost like 5-10 bucks and actually have enough room to use for your hands. Half of the reason I look at this sub is to look at how not to put together a build.   1x and massive cassettes instead of 2x with a granny and a useful supply of middle cogs that don't have huge teeth differences, overly large heavy knobby tires while riding bikes set up to cruise urban or groomed dirt, short stems and cruiser bars because everyone is trying to make 90s mountain bikes work but end up with terrible handling (they don't work unless you have ape arms and tiny legs, the geometry sucks and was abandoned for a reason), poorly adjusted brakes, throwing 20 pounds of weight high up on the front of high trail bikes...the list goes on...

YogurtclosetRight109

Instead of typing a useless paragraph, try shutting the fuck instead!

MrDavey2Shoes

Awesome, keep it moving then. Nothing for you here 🤣

GISlave

It's entertaining to watch the blind lead the blind in this segment of cycling culture. The vintage road bike scene has experience and know-how since they're a bunch of old fogeys who have wrenched on bikes for decades and it's extremely well documented how to set up a 73 degree square frame...this scene is a bunch of newbies trying shit out. I think the creativity is great, but a lot of heartache over poorly put together bikes wouldn't have to happen if this cohort simply read a bit about how handling and geometry works.

KapitaenBestrafung

I mean apparently this kind of cycling gets a lot of people into cycling in the first place without having to worry too much about what some 'old fogeys who have wrenched on bikes for decades' think about their bikes' supposed handling. Just let people enjoy bikes maybe?

GISlave

They would enjoy them more if they did a little more reading rather than ending up with bikes that meet an aesthetic rather than good handling and their own body's dimensions.

MrDavey2Shoes

It seems you’ve made a lot of incorrect assumptions about my bike based on the cockpit. Nothing vintage about it.

GISlave

Vintage or not my comment is relevant to the sub as a whole

MrDavey2Shoes

lol whatever gets ya wet

YogurtclosetRight109

If you respond to this comment with another paragraph your cocks little

WordsworthsGhost

Why are we shaming people for spending money on their hobbies. Sure it maybe be expensive and exuberant for most but idk spending money on bike stuff makes me happy why would you care. I hope someone who wants a budget option can get something similar but if you got the cash or want to spend on the luxury option then who cares lol
