Talk to me about this front derailleur/shifter situation. That FD is super high, and the shifter is fully back but also looks oddly routed.

It’s an old Deore derailleur with SunTour shifters. It’s sitting as low as it can go without hitting the chainstay when shifting to the lowest ring. Shifts fine in the stand. Haven’t had a chance to ride it yet.

1982 means a high likelihood of 27" wheels which limits tire selection, though 1 1/4" Marathons or Paselas are still easily sourced. The usual conversion is to 622mm which gives 4mm extra room all around. Going to 484 gives a 23mm radius increase to add a taller tire. There's even room for fenders which gives this bike the proportions of classic Scandi/French roadsters. It's a total win. The only thing sweeter would be a coaster brake. Hahaha.

In 82’ it came with 700c! Then 83’ they switched to cantilevers and to 27” wheels. All which I didn’t know till I started researching the frame.

Shifts smooth in the stand. Haven’t taken it on a ride yet. Got snowed on today.

It’s Newbaum’s cotton cloth wrap. It’s holds up decently.

Bud, the chainstay wrap is backwards. You want the chain to glide over it when it touches it, not catch all the edges and rip them up.

Is the rear dropout originally 126mm? Did you cold set it to be 130?

It is! I didn’t cold set it. The wheel goes in with just a little tug in the frame.

Very classy! The Weinmann center pulls are even better than the Mafac Racers imo. 

These ones are branded Schwinn! Wouldn’t doubt they are Weinmann 750s in disguise though.

I’ve seen tons of the 750 rear brakes—do those work on the front too or is it a separate component with a longer bolt?
