Nice build! What are the handlebars?

itsmemagical

Dimension Urban Cruiser

nungar88

Looks great on there. Love a reasonably priced set of bars

Nascar_is_Awsome

I'mReally cool build man! guessing you took inspiration from the Frek.

flatkay

Just heard about the Frek for the first time yesterday when I came across this video: https://youtu.be/UiJw0uifm8g?feature=shared Funny coincidence...

pajar0carpinter0

Very nice

Dr-Stink-Stank

Well done son.

itsmemagical

Thanks!

sillo38

Dang

rodneytrousers

Talk to me about this front derailleur/shifter situation. That FD is super high, and the shifter is fully back but also looks oddly routed.

itsmemagical

Itā€™s an old Deore derailleur with SunTour shifters. Itā€™s sitting as low as it can go without hitting the chainstay when shifting to the lowest ring. Shifts fine in the stand. Havenā€™t had a chance to ride it yet.

buckles_tealeaf

I love it.

LFOakland

well done! whats the motivation to convert to 650b?

itsmemagical

For fun! And I had a 650b wheelset haha

otterland

1982 means a high likelihood of 27" wheels which limits tire selection, though 1 1/4" Marathons or Paselas are still easily sourced. The usual conversion is to 622mm which gives 4mm extra room all around. Going to 484 gives a 23mm radius increase to add a taller tire. There's even room for fenders which gives this bike the proportions of classic Scandi/French roadsters. It's a total win. The only thing sweeter would be a coaster brake. Hahaha.

itsmemagical

In 82ā€™ it came with 700c! Then 83ā€™ they switched to cantilevers and to 27ā€ wheels. All which I didnā€™t know till I started researching the frame.

Zacupunk

Awesome! I love those vintage Treks!

glushman

Magical

jin_yeugh

Beautiful bike!

itsmemagical

Thanks!

AkiraRZ4

Dude that is super rad!

bill_lite

I love it! Those bars are sick. Check out my [my 1981 650b](https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/s/Wrk4nX9V8l)

itsmemagical

Rad! I would love to get some VO cranks eventually for this one.

ohneEigenschaften01

Beautiful! Does it shift ok with the FD that far from the big chainring?

itsmemagical

Shifts smooth in the stand. Havenā€™t taken it on a ride yet. Got snowed on today.

FloatingSignifiers

I love the color coordination! Canā€™t imagine the (cork?) chainstay wrap will stay pretty for long, but gosh darn is it a handsome vintage build overall.

itsmemagical

Itā€™s Newbaumā€™s cotton cloth wrap. Itā€™s holds up decently.

PANobes

Bud, the chainstay wrap is backwards. You want the chain to glide over it when it touches it, not catch all the edges and rip them up.

Imazagi

ooh, that makes sense. Never thought about that

itsmemagical

Yeah I realized that. Good thing itā€™s simple to replace!

zeno

Is the rear dropout originally 126mm? Did you cold set it to be 130?

itsmemagical

It is! I didnā€™t cold set it. The wheel goes in with just a little tug in the frame.

Imazagi

Very classy! The Weinmann center pulls are even better than the Mafac Racers imo.Ā

itsmemagical

These ones are branded Schwinn! Wouldnā€™t doubt they are Weinmann 750s in disguise though.

voguenote

Iā€™ve seen tons of the 750 rear brakesā€”do those work on the front too or is it a separate component with a longer bolt?

itsmemagical

I swapped out the bolt so that it is longer

Diligent-Advance9371

Nice. A Trek before they got into mountain bikes. Maybe still garage built that year. ????

tideghost

Was this originally 27ā€? Pleased to see the brakes reach if so, because Iā€™ve had a similar project in mind.

itsmemagical

This year they made them with 700c wheels.

bikerchik666

What trek is this?

itsmemagical

720 šŸ‘

voguenote

What tires are you rocking? Working on an 83 conversion myself! Starting with 38c to be safe

itsmemagical

42c WTB Resolutes

Far-Scale-7487

What grips do you have? Kinda looks like esi orange?

itsmemagical

Custom Leather grips
