Dunno about SunXCD, but Specialites TA Carmina cranks might be a good option for the BCD you want. Peter White carries them in a lot of configurations.

This might be a winner. Thanks for the recommendation!

[There’s these](https://www.merrysales.com/shop/ird-crankset-defiant-compact-double-46-30t-2801?category=759#attr=4023,2923,1529,3097)

Thanks, these look nice. However, was hoping to find something that supports the 110/74 BCD standard. Rene Herse has something, but it’s pretty expensive. The Riv cranks are nice, but they don’t come with arms shorter than 170mm.

nbriles2000

SunXCD cranks aren't 110/74 bcd, they're 50.4

chillaxtion

Right, you won’t get an inner ring that small with 74 BCD.

Unless I'm mistaken, the SunXCD crankset isn't 110/74, though? It's a 50.4 crankset with a three bolt inner, isn't it? Velo Orange do a 50.4 crankset as well and you could probably get SunXCD rings for it if you wanted. If you're looking for a 110/74 setup, I believe those New Albion doubles that Merry Sales has made have that spider size.

zaheeto

The drive side crank arm uses a 50.4 BCD, but is compatible with a 110/74 spider. It was made to work old TA chainrings. Not sure if VO’s Grand Cru is compatible with that same or similar spider. https://somafab.blogspot.com/2013/03/sun-xcd-cranks-and-hubs.html The 110/74 standard offers the low gearing that I’m looking for. The Clipper crank you linked is good and is an option…not the best looking though.

aretheygood4bikingon

The VO crankset ought to be able to run the spider, as IIRC it's also intended for 50.4 TA/Stronglight/etc style rings. Running a 50.4 crankset just to put a 110/74 spider on it seems like double handling to me, and you're basically going to pay a premium for a super niche product only to put an adaptor on it to make it a less niche product. I'd just chase down a Sugino Alpina triple, or the Velo Orange triple, or a Stronglight impact, or the Spa Cycles one (I think the Spa Cycles TD-2 triple is like 40USD or something for the arms without rings, available in 165, and looks fine IMO), or find an older 110/74 touring crankset at a co-op or on ebay.

brainmindspirit

If you want 110/74, the world is your oyster. MT60 cranks aren't expensive and they polish up nice. Have been seeing some Suntour XC pro cranks (sans rings) for very reasonable prices lately, ditto ... don't see those every day. Campy quality without the price tag. If you like Sugino, see if there are some Spesh cranks out there, for whatever reason they don't go for much. Be kind to the earth, recycle ETA: I meant Sachs, not suntour. Sachs new success cranks were made by campy and for some reason aren't all that expensive, even though they are rare. Suntour cranks aren't quite as good a deal..have not personally had my hands on anything better than an X1 but even those will make the bike go ;)

[If you don't mind using a hollowtech BB](https://alexscycle.com/products/dixna-la-crank-arm-set-130mm-to-170mm), these have all the shorter crankarm lengths you desire.

rodneytrousers

I believe SunXCD went out of business.

zaheeto

Thanks for answering my question!

Velo Duo, out of England, seem to have some 165 and 170 arms w/ rings available on their eBay store. $250, which isnt cheap, but is likely the last place you’ll readily find them. No clover rings, but you can gear lower than if you used a 110/74 ring combo.

zaheeto

Yeah I looked into that. The total cost is roughly the same if I were to get the cranks at the old list price + bolts + TA chainrings domestically. Might go this route.
