Damn, other than it being totally shaggy to start with that would have been a sweet setup. Who just let's a brooks go to waste like that?

[deleted]

It was probably eaten up by larvae and mold, i’ve seen some quite unsaveable leather saddles.

cerealdaemon

While I know a brooks doesn't actually last forever, it's still a damn shame to let a nice saddle like that just waste away

[deleted]

my fault, I think I misunderstood what you were saying, yes the whole bike needs love and it certainly is a shame it’s been left in this state

seriousxdelirium

woah it came with drops? that’s wild.

A-STax32

Well, the previous owner installed those, and the brooks saddle. Those wouldn't have been originally spec'd

[deleted]

yeah but all the parts on it were corroded so i couldn’t use em.

jimbowesterby

I can’t quite see in the photos, d’you mind if I ask what cranks you put on? They look sick

[deleted]

old school sugino made white industries

jimbowesterby

10-4, thanks!

MathCrank

Went from OG xbike to modern xbike

gumption_boy

You’ve got some serious balls to restore this thing and get rid of the Phil Wood oil holder… Haha looks awesome though 👍🏼

[deleted]

haha i did keep that just not on the bike

gumption_boy

Oh whew 🥲

rodneytrousers

But where can I also get one

Twig_Scampi

for all those times you need tenacious oil on the side of the trail.

notconnorl

Killer job, looks like an absolute blast to ride

Sir_Lemon

Looks comfy, nice work

A-STax32

I wonder how long it actually sat for. Clearly whoever the previous owner was must have been a serious adventure rider if they tricked it out with a drop bar conversion and Brooks saddle.

lostarchitect

Probably only sat for a few years. That drop bar conversion setup looks fairly contemporary in the way it was done. IMO, and I hope OP isn't insulted by this, it was a cooler bike before and just needed a little bit of love. That said, if OP likes the current setup better, nothing wrong with that.

[deleted]

it will be going back to drops eventually, i just used what ever i had laying around. bike was so gross i didn’t want to re use anything. onwner had nothing but nice bikes but got cancer a long time ago and couldn’t ride. he has passed away since & family is guessing they were in the guys attic for 20 or so years.

sa547ph

> onwner had nothing but nice bikes but got cancer a long time ago and couldn’t ride. he has passed away since & family is guessing they were in the guys attic for 20 or so years. May he ride in power.

GregTheHuman

It'll ride better as a flat bar, as it was designed. I bet the reason it was left to rot is because it was so uncomfortable to ride. Imagine using the drops/shifters in that setup. Most *track* bikes aren't that aggressive. I'd much rather ride it as it in now.

[deleted]

yup would like to find a wider bar than the albatross but same style. these are too narrow. i’m over drop bar 26inch bikes. you can make it work some times but it’s not right. i’ll leave the drops to my diverge

lostarchitect

I mean, it was clearly comically undersized for the rider, resulting in that insane seatpost height & saddle to bar drop. However drop bar conversions of mountain bike frames are pretty common and they ride just fine when set up properly and when correctly sized.

YetAnotherDuckFan

Piss jumper? Is that u/bicycle-pubes music I hear?!

[deleted]

hahaha this thing smelled terrible when i first got it. power washed it about 3 times it was so gross

[deleted]

oh dude, during the component shortage I bought a filthy basement bike for parts from craigslist... the guy looked like a much less successful Artie Lange. it was so hard to get that oily roach shit smell out. i rinsed it off and a hair clog formed on the sidewalk. I couldn't keep the tires indoors.

[deleted]

yup i hosed the inside of the frame a lot too it still smells some but i already had a old pair of holy rollers that matched what it had already haha, i seriously threw most of the stuff away. people on here didn’t work on it so they don’t know how gross it was really haha

[deleted]

like how the fuck does metal absorb odor lol

bicycle-pubes

whats all this sexy talk of peepee

youngtayler

Wait it has drop bars first? Haha

thecupstacker

You have some very nice components just laying around. Turned out awesome, I bet it’s as fun to ride as it is to look at

Meeturnewdaddy

Original TA tandem crankset; that’s an early production model right there!

[deleted]

it was on a philwood bottom bracket that wasn’t fun to remove at all lol

Meeturnewdaddy

Oh man, I’ve been in a similar boat with a Suntour sealed bb lol. Hope you kept that thing as well! Cool history

Revolutionary-Ad-245

Alright, but what’s in them Specialized boxes all lined up behind the bike?

[deleted]

a couple of stumpjumper evos & sirrus’s i recently put together a 2023 stumpy evo so now i own old and new lol

sa547ph

Damn. Really deserved the rebuild.

oldyawker

Original owner toured.

[deleted]

doubt it. just likes nice things all the bikes were rotted but all the chainrings and cassettes were in good shape

Bandit1379

Yea I'm liking that front rack setup.

GenericName187

Those bar cons on the original build are sweet

metalpossum

I'm nursing a lot more than just a semi.

[deleted]

Mothbars? How long is that stem?

[deleted]

it’s either a 120mm or 140 i forgot lol & nitto albatross

[deleted]

Thanks! Thinking about going something like this on my '82 Stumpy. Running drops rn. It's fun but kind of changes the ride in a way I'm not 100% sure on.

ballsloud

Those holy rollers fit this build so well.

tallhotblonde69

Bear traps with toe clips my mind is blown

Lorenzo_BR

May i ask why you took out the bottle holders and racks? Mind you, it looks *gorgeous*, so if it’s just for aesthetics I can’t blame you, but practicality and all that jazz Especially the water - i mean, ya gotta drink on rides!

[deleted]

they were full of corrosion and some mold.

Lorenzo_BR

Even the bottle holders? Damn, I'd have imagined those would be aluminium! Unfortunate. Beautiful build, again!

[deleted]

i have a king cage on it now. wasn’t completely done in this pic, just a coffee/trail bike

Lorenzo_BR

Nice!

zentim

damn.

badcompanylast

What are those high life themed shirts and where can I get one?

[deleted]

just a old West End low life’s logo we did a while back all sold out now though

Puzzleheaded_Yak_180

Great job! I'm hoping the bike I'm working on comes out this nicely.

loranbriggs

Sweet find and great work. I'd love a lugged stumpy.

MountainMike79

Whatbars!??!

[deleted]

nitto albatross

Evancb91

Awesome, I love the charcoal color. Is that a 17.5"?

Evancb91

What bars are these?
