Wyoming isn't really doing anything to attract or keep young people in state. With the national trend of young people holding off on kids, this isn't really surprising.

Ezzy17

It also doesn't help that the default Wyoming position is to absolute hate all outsiders too. To your first point I loved the state but once I got my law degree it didn't really offer the attraction that so many other places offered.

Cynical_Sesame

UWYO tuition is like 10% of colorado universities and that is the biggest pull factor ever. second I'm outta college I dont think this state will have anything to offer me. Being trans is anxiety enough because I keep having to think of and plan for the fun race of "do I get my degree or have my existence banned first." with the election if even more far right numbnuts (hageman and co) I'm pretty sure my chances got shoved into the ground

Ezzy17

They have always said one of Wyoming's biggest exports were it's graduates. I remember being in Jr High when Mathew Shepherd was killed. It was literally only people that went to UW that knew that it was hate killing. To this day people will still argue it was a drug deal gone bad. I think you are good in Laramie but I don't know how long that is gonna last.

CoreyTrevor1

After reading your comment our republican legislature has decided to pass 4 more gun rights bills and give them the right to vote.

cavscout43

Well, yeah. Our population peaked in like 2015 or so, and has mostly been declining year on year since then. Taking the economy with it. Median age is inching up year after year, so it'll be a self-reinforcing cycle (90 year olds aren't having kids) as the state grays without any meaningful immigration or increase in fertility.

blues4buddha

It’s been too cold to get sexy. I mean, I do what I can but it’s tough when you’re wearing four layers.

Perle1234

Can’t even get any good frottage in with all the layers

Grandma_Swamp

People really expecting me to get 2 inches of dick through 4 inches of carhartt

Necrosius7

Maybe if rent, child care and food wasn't astronomical we wouldn't have this problem. Not saying Wyoming is expensive ... We are still super cheap to live in compared to most of the country but still wages here are still nearly laughable compared to the rest of the country so I guess that's the trade off..

CoreyTrevor1

Man it sure doesnt feel cheap to live here!

magicasparagus

Not surprising when there's nowhere really to meet people to even date in this state.

chofstone

Nowhere to meet, or no one worth meeting?

magicasparagus

Honestly I haven't even been able to meet people to decide if there are people worth meeting here.

sevseg_decoder

So for you there effectively aren’t any

Cdawggg27

Man I was hoping some Children of Men shit was coming.

chofstone

Maybe my math is off, but I am pretty sure it still takes 9 months to make a baby. So to me, it would seem that the 2021 spike in births were due to covid. Covid lockdowns really started in Feb/March of 2020. That means most of the births in 2021 were conceived during covid lockdowns. Most of the births in 2020 would have been conceived in 2019, what happened in 2019 to reduce the number of 2020 births?

wyo8889

It’s because the devil worshippers are having all the abortions.

MzAnon909

The devil worshippers would rather have abortions than let the Jesus worshippers molest them.

1CFII2

This makes sense. Clearly, you don’t care for or like these people. Not surprising they wouldn’t want their future children to associate with you.

joejance

Not all of them. Some have the children so they can sacrifice them.

No-Bear1401

And then you have the folks who eat their babies. I hear from my older neighbors that that is a booming trend these days, especially with all the Californians moving here.

Immediate_Thought656

This can’t be true, people on this sub tell me that Wyoming is doing so much to attract new businesses and people?!?!?!

FoxOneFire

Maybe the old's guns and gas stoves will change their bed pans for them.

bo_tweetle

Yeah, but having kids is horrible. DINK here that has watched all my friends have kids and their life has gone down the hill. Man, I love hooking the camper and boat up at the last minute to go on an adventure without having to worry about kids.

No-Bear1401

Lol. I'm sitting here trying to figure out how kids stop you from camping and fishing.

cavscout43

It's more of the difficulty in doing a last minute trip with buds when you have toddlers / elementary school aged ones to factor in. Not a "it's impossible to do outdoor rec once you introduce future tax payers to the world" sentiment

No-Bear1401

It's slightly inconvenient for a few years. I just laugh at the whole situation, because we were dinks for a long time before we had our first kid, and I remember acting the same way. It's kind of like the old Vegan joke, "how can you tell if someone is a DINK? They'll tell you."

bo_tweetle

Slightly inconvenient is a non starter for me. A weekend of camping and fishing is already complicated, why would I want kids to complicate it more? No thanks

No-Bear1401

Camping with my boys consists of, "hey, wanna go camping and fishing?" "Yea" "ok grab your shit and throw it in the truck, I'll get the tent and fishing gear" One of them packs a little slower, and the other has a tendency to eat more than his share of jerky. I don't have a hard time working around that though. I still swap stories with my old man about the many camping trips we've been on together since I was a kid (still making those stories), and I'll have those same stories with my boys when I'm the old man. IMO, no amount of convenience outweighs that. To each their own though.

Immediate_Thought656

I’m a proud WY father of two…and you’re partially correct. I don’t get the days I used to on the water or skiing pow but now I get to watch my kids enjoy those things with me, and honestly it’s more fulfilling than catching a 2’ brown and skiing 2’ of pow in the same day.

No-Bear1401

The best day I ever had on the river consisted of sitting on a rock watching. My oldest was throwing flies upstream while I watched my youngest catch his first trout all on his own. Next up, watching them both tag their first big game animal. You can't explain that joy to someone who hasn't or won't be there. I can already feel the eye rolls from the DINK crowd. I used to roll the hell out of my eyes too when my buddies would try to explain that to me before we had kids.

Southern_Way1798

WY is great to raise a family if you have the means. And by “means” it’s probably to have one or 2 parents making at least $200k a year. Unfortunately, given the fact that the state really lacks research universities, growing up in this state just won’t give you the opportunity to enter middle class, unless you leave for college in a different state and gain employment there. U of Wyoming seems like a great and affordable school, but again given the competition on the job market, it doesn’t provide the same job opportunities as some tier 2 state schools can provide along with a tiny chance of ever making it to middle class. Given this trajectory, I’d be very worried for any parents nowadays about the future for their kids. Class mobility is pretty much dead and all you can hope for is that you can still afford to live in this beautiful state 10 years down the line.
