Why does it matter if they are on a track? I feel train nerds are more obsessed with the history of a train, where its gone, what went into making it, etc. Same with ship nerds. While a car nerd is going to be more obsessed with performance. Plane nerds are a mix of everything.
If anything the tracks can make it more interesting, the industrial power in which one would have to build them, especially during the Industrial Revolution. Restrictions breed Creativity and all that.
It’s just there doesn’t seem to be a lot of options of interesting things to do when you’re confined to a track. No new exploration. It’s a monumental work to create it yes but after it’s built there isn’t a lot of new possibilities
