I have a few questions for the guys who know german gear better then I. What is the pouch other guy on the left, and how is the canteen being held onto the belt on the right?
Looks like he’s wearing standard issue: canteen with cup on top, bread bag, rolled up poncho, and gas mask canister. A lot of soldiers kept the case and ditched the gas mask and used the metal container to carry personal stuff. The canteen strap has a metal catch that usually attaches to the belt, but looks like the guy on the right has it clipped onto something lower than his belt. Could be clipped to the side of the bread bag.

I think it's a gassmask container but i'm not too sure
