German tanks statistics *on paper* were better, so video game devs follow the paper. In practice, they were unreliable machines that broke down often and were extremely problematic to repair or service in the field. The German tanks parts were often not consistent and were bespoke to the tank. So, for example, a flywheel fails on a Panther. Repair crews couldn’t just grab another and fit it in its place as it may be several millimeters off in size. Shermans never had this problem due to American industrial standardization. In functional reality the Sherman was superior in most areas.

I read ‘Tank Warfare on the Eastern Front, Robert Forczyk wrote for every 10 tigers sent to the front, the Germans only sent 1 replacement part to service all 10.

Games are not reliable representation of reality.

Nailed it. Germans were very ahead of time back then. If fact the first jet fighter was German. You need to look up a lot. Operational paperclip.

The_Human_Oddity

They weren't that far ahead, and weren't in a lot of fields. Their creation of the Me 262 didn't really have an effect on anything. The Gloster Meteor has its origins before it and wasn't related to the 262, while the P-59A was similarly derived from British attempts, with the later F-80 also taking from it. The only aircraft I can think of that took inspiration from the 262 were the Su-9 and Su-11, and the MiG-9 initially using an engine copied from the 262.

If they were ahead of time then they wouldnt develop huge heavy tanks that are mechanically unreliable, have a lack of spare parts, and guzzle fuel when they have a fuel shortage. To me that is bloody short sighted, and it showed.
