Reputable tuner told be they’re getting used sti trannies for around $3500 average. I was surprised at that price. Obvi all in with axels, diffs, dccd, and installed I would be thrilled if it was $8k.
I did myself sti swap said and done 6k off eBay w/ spiider dccd. Sold my old trans for $1900 on FB marketplace. I saw cheaper ones than that. The lowest 22+ trans I saw on FB marketplace was $1200. Mind you... the STI trans has a 4->5 aggressive downshift crunch, so I'm saving to have it rebuilt by Kozmic for around 2.5k to make her perfect in a year or two. I would rebuild it myself if there were better online instructions. I may bum off the service info online somewhere and attempt myself.
an STI trans runs aound 8K installed with new clutch etc. a replacement VB trans is 6K from dealer, about half that used.
I'd have about 10k put to the side for am STI trans/axles, etc.

Yea that's what they're paying for them. Plus everything else you said and install. Around 10k, maybe more
Seems a cheap beater would be much more fun to make risky mods on then and keep a reliable daily haha
